Section 1: Introduction This is not really intended as a comprehensive walkthrough of the game. A solo quest is more difficult than a normal one, and you don't get anything from it except a free Bastard sword, which isn't that great, and a few lines of NPC dialogue are different. Aside form that, the only thing you get out of a solo quest is bragging rights and the satisfaction of knowing that you've done a solo quest. Notes are sparse in some places. As I said, this document isn't intended as a walkthrough. It's just a log of what I did, when, and how strong I was when I did it. The notes I have included I think will be helpful. No, I did not go through the bonus dungeons. By the time I defeated Zoma, to tell the truth, I was kinda burnt out on the game. This is not to say that I won't load up my last save and attempt the bonus dungeons anyway, but I can say that I won't for a while. I chose Solitary for the Hero's personality, because what could possibly fit better for a solo quest? Section 2 is the first part fo the game and covers events up to Portoga. This is the most linear part of the game, and you can probably skip it if you want. You may find the notes on my level and what equipment I use at a particular time helpful, but really, there's not a lot to tell as far as that part fo the game goes. Needless to say, this document contains a number of spoilers. If you don't want to see any, then don't read any further, although there are a few in it already. Why did I do a solo quest? The answer is quite simple. I was bored and it was something to do. Plus, I wanted to see how much more difficult it would be (the answer is; not as much as you might expect). There may be a typo or an incorrect piece of information here or there, though I've gone over this file and haven't spotted any. If you find one, great. I don't much care to know, so, yeah. Dont bother telling me. Now, enough with the babbling, and on to section 2 and the beginning of the actual log. Section 2, The Beginning Leveled up around Reeve and attempted to climb the Tower of Najimi. Used the cave on the western part of the island to reach the tower. Used seeds immediately after finding them. Before leaving Reeve for the tower: Personality: Solitary Level: 8 Stats Strength: 33 Agility: 20 Vitality: 32 Intelligence: 10 Luck: 11 Max HP: 65 Max MP: 19 EXP: 1308 Atk: 49 Def: 33 GP: 14 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Return Recall Remember Equipment: Sickle Leather Armor Leather Shield Leather Helm Bag Contents/ Other Items: Antidote, 5 Herb, 29 TinyMedals Collected: 3 Cave and Tower: No problems in the cave or tower. Opened all the chests in the tower. Ran into some Butterflys and Babbles on the third floor of the tower, but defeated them before being poisoned/surrounded. Got the key and leapt off the third floor. Went back into the tower and got the chests from the northern part of the cave just below it and used the underground passage to return to Aliahan. Didn't need to use spells/herbs/the inn to heal. Went back to Reeve and got the Magic Bomb. Sold excess equipment. Before leaving Reeve for Tempt Cave Personality: Solitary Level: 8 Stats Strength: 33 Agility: 20 Vitality: 32 Intelligence: 10 Luck: 11 Max HP: 65 Max MP: 19 EXP: 1859 Atk: 49 Def: 33 GP: 533 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Return Recall Remember Equipment: Sickle/ Spiny Whip Leather Armor Leather Shield Wooden Helm Bag Contents/ Other Items: Antidote, 6 Herb, 30 Tomboy Thiefkey MagicBomb WarpWing TinyMedals collected: 5 Tempt Cave: Stopped by the shrine to collect a TinyMedal. Cave West of Noaniels Most mosnters die in 1-2 hits from the boomerang. Got put to sleep a few times by BigShrooms, but didn't have many problems. Had to heal after every 2-3 battles. Stats upon leaving Kazave for the Tower of Shanpane Personality: Solitary Level: 17 Stats Strength: 65 Agility: 47 Vitality: 71 Intelligence: 23 Luck: 29 Max HP: 142 Max MP: 45 EXP: 23767 Atk: 98/ 84 Def: 74 GP: 10078 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Ironize Firebal Return Sleep Outside Forget Recall Remember Equipment: Steel sword/ Wooden boomerang Iron armor Iron shield Wooden helm Bag Contents/ Other Items Antidote, 14 Herb, 32 Thiefkey Warpwing, 3 MagicMap Token, 5 Moonherb, 2 Boxer Repellant Rosary necklace Notes: None Tower of Shanpane: Got the chest on the first floor (gold) before heading to the second. Again, most battles are over with 2-3 hits from the boomerang. Also got the chest on the third floor (bronze shield) before going to the fourth. After jumping off the top floor after Kandar, I healed via herbs and put as many as I could hold in my inventory. BOSS FIGHT: Kandar, Goon, Goon, Goon Started off using the Wooden boomerang. Was taking about 4 damage from each goon and about 14-20 or so from Kandar. GoonA died after two hits. Used an herb on the third round and attacked on the fourth, killing GoonB. Also used herbs on the fifth and sixth rounds. Killed GoonC on the seventh round, then switch to the Steel sword and attacked on the eighth and ninth. Used herbs on the tenth and eleventh rounds; Kandar parried. Traded blows with him until the sixteenth round, when he died. Had 59 HP left. Got 2440 XP. Notes: Jumped off the tower and cast Return to go to Romaly. Returned the crown, stayed at the inn, and went to Ashalam. Stats upon leaving Romaly for Ashalam: Personality: Solitary Level: 17 Stats Strength: 65 Agility: 47 Vitality: 71 Intelligence: 23 Luck: 29 Max HP: 142 Max MP: 45 EXP: 27431 Atk: 98/ 84 Def: 74 GP: 11040 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Ironize Firebal Return Sleep Outside Forget Recall Remember Equipment: Steel sword/ Wooden boomerang Iron armor Iron shield Wooden helm Bag Contents/ Other Items Antidote, 14 Herb, 28 Thiefkey Warpwing, 3 MagicMap Token, 5 Moonherb, 2 Boxer Repellant Rosary necklace Tiny Medals collected: 12 Notes: Bought the Steel helm for 2000 GP and the Iron axe for 2500 GP in Ashalam. Sold the Wooden helm and Steel sword. Wooden boomerang is still a big help. Headed for Isis once I reached level 20. Stopped by the Pachisi track and the Desert Shrine and got the TinyMedals there. Stats upon arriving in Isis Personality: Solitary Level: 20 Stats Strength: 79 Agility: 108 (54) Vitality: 83 Intelligence: 31 Luck: 35 Max HP: 165 Max MP: 63 EXP: 41172 Atk: 117/ 98 Def: 115 GP: 10747 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Ironize Firebal Return StopSpell Sleep Outside Repel Forget Recall Remember Recollect Equipment: Iron axe/ Wooden boomerang Iron armor Iron shield Iron helm Starry ring Bag Contents/ Other Items Antidote, 14 Herb, 28 Thiefkey Warpwing, 3 MagicMap Token, 5 Moonherb, 2 Boxer Repellant Rosary necklace TinyMedals collected: 18 Notes: Got the Starry ring and the two TinyMedals right away. Decided to try the Pryamid at level 21. Repel keeps away ALL monsters around Isis at this point (too bad it doesn't work in dungeons). I hate fighting Hellcrabs when StopSpell doesn't work. Flamepedes and CatFlies run often. Most fights are over in 2-3 rounds. I rarely take more than 4-5 points of damage per hit. I think I may be a bit overleveled. Pyramid: Went up to the second floor, then back down to the first via the other stairs to get the TinyMedal. Got the chest on the second floor and went to the third. The monsters on the first two floors seem to be WEAKER than the ones in the desert (less annoying, at least, except for KingToads, who can cast Sleep, but rarely seem to). The combination for the buttons on the third floor is 3, 2, 1, 4, with 1 being the westernmost one. Was taking about 5 points of damage from each hit. The Wooden boomerang, was, once again, a huge help, particularly agaisnt the MummyMen in the chests on the fourth floor, who all died in one or two hits form it. Continued to the top of the pyramid and jumped off. Cast RETURN to go to Aliahan and got the Blade boomerang, then gathered all the TinyMedals and other treasures available now that I had the Magic key, including the Wizard ring from the queen of Isis. Sold unusable equipment. Went north from Romaly to the shrine and continued on to Portoga. Got the scroll from the king and bought a Steel whip, then returned to Ashalam. Went into the cave and gave the letter to the hobbit, then continued on to Baharata. Stats upon arriving in Baharata: Personality: Solitary Level: 22 Stats Strength: 92 Agility: 124 (62) Vitality: 97 Intelligence: 41 Luck: 39 Max HP: 189 Max MP: 76 EXP: 61809 Atk: 130/ 116/ 132 Def: 123 GP: 32820 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Ironize Firebal Return StopSpell Sleep Outside Repel Forget Recall Remember Recollect Equipment: Iron axe/ Blade boomerang/ Steel whip Iron armor Iron shield Iron helm Starry ring Bag Contents/ Other Items Antidote, 14 Herb, 29 ThiefKey Warpwing, 4 MagicMap Token, 10 Moonherb, 3 Boxer Repellant Rosary necklace Spiny whip Magic Key Ruby ring Wiard ring Letter Tattoo TinyMedals collected: 26 Notes: Bought a Magic shield and Steel armor upon arriving in town. Got the TinyMedal at the inn. Decided to try the cave to the east without further leveling. Monsters around town die with 1-2 hits. Cave East of Baharata: Went north and opened the chests, except for the one on the far left and the northern one in the easternmost room (Canniboxes). Still taking only about 5 damage per hit form monsters. Went south and down to the second floor. Got the items from the room to the west and fought the goons (died after two hits form the Steel whip), then released Tania and Gupta, triggering the fight with Kandar and the rest of his goons. BOSS FIGHT, Kandar, 2 goons Goons both cast Defense the first round and failed. Kandar attacked and did 14 damage. I attacked with the Blade boomerang. Second round GoonB attacked and missed, GoonA cast Defense and succeded, and Kandar attacked and did 28 damage. I attacked with the Blade boomerang again. I had 107 HP left at the end of the round. Third round I killed the goons and took 24 damage from Kandar. The next four rounds I cast Heal while Kandar attacked. Then I equipped the Steel whip and traded blows with him. He was doing from 10-25 points and I was doing about 50 per turn. After eight turns I started casting Heal again until I was completely restored, after six turns, after which I returned to trading blows with Kandar. He died after four more turns. I recieved 5000 XP, which promoted me to level 23 and taught me Firebane. At the end of the battle, I had 146 HP and 43 MP. Notes: I returned to Baharata, got the Pepper, returned to Portoga, gave the pepper to the king, and recieved the ship. Section 3, The Search For The Orbs I immediately sailed south to Tedanki and bought the Magic armor and got the TinyMedal in the swamp. Afterwards I saided south around the tip of the continent and followed the shore until I reached Muor. Picked up Ortega's helmet and another TinyMedal and sold the Iron helm. Most sea monsters die in one or two hits from the Blade boomerang or Steel whip and give better experience then anything else so far. KingSquids take 3-4 hits. Headed to Lancel next and bought a Hide herb and got a TinyMedal, then went to Edinbear and got the DryVase, two more TinyMedals, a Lady book, a Dandy suit, and a Party dress. Stopped by the shrine on the southern ice-covered island to pick up the TinyMedal there, then went to the shoals directly south of the Tower of Najimi and got the FinalKey and another TinyMedal. Stopped at the travel door shrine north of Soo and got the TinyMedal there before continuing to Soo. Picked up the Bolt staff and the TinyMedals there, then used RETURN to go to Aliahan and pick up a dealer. use RETRUN again to go to Romaly and get an Iron apron for the Dealer, then RETURNED to Soo and took the Dealer to Newburg. Sailed back aroudn the northern part of the continent and went to the Dharma shrine. Stayed at the inn and collected the TinyMedal, then went north to the Tower of Garuna. Stats upon entering the Tower of Garuna Personality: Solitary Level: 25 Strength: 106 Agility: 146 (73) Vitality: 118 Intelligence: 50 Luck: 45 Max HP: 237 Max MP: 102 EXP: 91338 Atk: 146/ 130 Def: 168 GP: 31340 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Ironize Firebal Return StopSpell Sleep Firebane Outside Repel Forget Recall Remember Recollect Equipment: Blade boomerang/ Steel whip Magic armor Magic shield Ortega's helm Starry ring Bag Contents/ Other Items Antidote, 14 Herb, 29 ThiefKey Warpwing, 4 MagicMap Token, 11 Moonherb, 3 Boxer Repellant Rosary necklace Spiny whip Magic Key Ruby ring Wiard ring Letter Tattoo Dry Vase FinalKey TinyMedals collected: 38 Notes: Collected the treasures here and left. None of the monsters were strong enough to present any problems. Stopped by Zipangu to pick up the TinyMedals and seeds there and sailed south to Lancel. Stayed at the inn there and went north to the shrine. Got the TinyMedal from the chest behind the priest and proceeded to the cave west of town. Monsters here were comparatively weak to even the ones at sea. Got the treasures, including two TinyMedals, the Terra armor, and the Blue Orb. Left the cave and town, boarded the ship and headed east to Luzami. Picked up the TinyMedal there and went north to the Pirate's House to get the Red Orb, the TinyMedals, and other treasures. Headed north again to check on Newburg. Sailed north and headed west to the Hobbit Shrine. Got the TinyMedal there and proceeded west until I reached the third Pachisi track. Monsters on this island were doing about 15-30 damage per hit, but gave excellent experience. Got the TinyMedals and rewards from the track and left. Went to Arp Tower, east of Muor, next. Fairly easy and straightforward at level 28. Collected everything and RETURNED to Aliahan to trade in my TinyMedals, then went to check on Newburg (no change). Sailed north to the warp gate shrine and took the gate on the right to reach Samanao. The monsters here are stronger than what I've been fighting, and sometimes present a problem. Bought a Dragon shield and a Zombie sword and RETURNED to Zipangu to defeat Orochi. Stats upon entering Orochi's Cave: Personality: Solitary Level: 29 Strength: 129 Agility: 164 (82) Vitality: 136 Intelligence: 67 Luck: 67 Max HP: 281 Max MP: 126 Atk: 196/ 181/ 171 Def: 194 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Ironize Fireball Return StopSpell Sleep Zap HealMore Firebane Outside Repel Recall Forget Remember Recollect Equipment: Zombie sword/ Dragon whip/ Flame boomerang Terra armor Dragon shield Ortega's helmet Starry ring Bag Contents/ Other Items: Red Orb Blue Orb Antidote, 14 Herb, 43 ThiefKey Warpwing, 4 MagicMap Token, 13 MagicKey Ruby ring Wizard ring Letter DryVase FinalKey Zen book PowerBelt Bolt staff STR ring Love ring EchoFlute Spiny whip Garter Blade boomerang INT specs Ninja armor TinyMedals collected: 54 Orochi's Cave: Ran into some Derangers on the first floor, but my level was high enough that PanicAll rarely affected me. Advanced to level 30 halfway to Orochi. Most monsters only did about 5-6 points of damage to me. Went down to the second level and found Orochi. Used some herbs to heal before the fight. BOSS FIGHT, Orochi First six round I traded blows with Orochi. I was doing about 70-100 damage with my Zombie sword, and took about 15 damage per hit and around 25 from it's fire breath. Rounds seven through nine I cast Healmore. Rounds ten through sixteen we traded blows again. On rounds seventeen and eighteen I cast Healmore. Traded blows again until round 23. Cast Healmore on rounds 24 and 25. Resumed attacking and killed Orochi on round 27. Followed Orochi through the gate and left town. Stayed at the Inn to the north and went back to fight Orochi. BOSS FIGHT, Orochi 2 Traded blows with Orochi until round four. Was taking 20-30 damage from attacks and anywhere between 5-30 from fire breath and dealing 70-100 damage with my Zombie sword. Cast Healmore on rounds six through eight. Traded blows until round twelve. Cast Healmore until round fifteen. Continued this pattern until round fifty-four, when Orochi died. Took the PurpleOrb from the chest and went to the inn north of town again. Checked on Newburg again (at stage three, theatre being built), then sailed east, then south to Tedanki. Got the GreenOrb from the ghost and went back to check on Newburg. Used RETURN to go to Samanao. Leveled up there until I reached level 33 and learned HealAll. Went to see the king, got thrown in jail, and escaped. Headed for the cave to the southeast. Stats upon entering the cave southeast of Samanao Personality: Solitary Level: 33 Strength: 146 Agility: 178 (89) Vitality: 149 Intelligence: 75 Luck: 75 Max HP: 300 Max MP: 151 EX: 255151 GP: 48398 Atk: 213/ 198/ 188 Def: 201 Spells: Blaze Heal Expel Ironize Fireball Return StopSpell Sleep Zap HealMore Firebane HealAll Boom Outside Repel Recall Forget Remember Recollect Equipment: Zombie sword/ Dragon whip/ Flame boomerang Terra armor Dragon shield Ortega's helmet Starry ring Bag Contents/ Other Items: Green Orb Purple Orb Red Orb Blue Orb Antidote, 14 Herb, 43 ThiefKey Warpwing, 4 MagicMap Token, 13 MagicKey Ruby ring Wizard ring Letter DryVase FinalKey Zen book PowerBelt Bolt staff STR ring Love ring EchoFlute Spiny whip Garter Blade boomerang INT specs Ninja armor TinyMedals collected: 62 Samanao Cave No problems, really. Monsters here aren't much stronger than the ones in the nearby overworld map. Shadows are annoying, though, because they like to cast Snowstorm, which does about 30-40 damage to me. Skeletors are also annoying because they can cast Defense and get two actions per round. There are five Mimics on the second floor; the four chests in the room north of the stairs, and the chest on the left in the room to the southeast of the stairs. Dropped down the hole to the south of the stairs and got the Lar Mirror. Also got the Plush suit on the same floor. Cast OUTSIDE and went back to Samanao. Used the DarkLamp from Tedanki and went to the castle. Went in through the back door and up to the King's room. Used the Lar Mirror and initiated the fight with BossTroll. BOSS FIGHT, BossTroll Cast StopSpell on the first turn and succeeded. Bostroll hit me twice for 83 damage. Attacked and did 73 damage the second turn and took 200 damage from a hit and a critcal hit. Cast HealAll the third turn and took another 74 damage. Continued trading blows and casting HealAll when neccesary until he died. Had to heal every two or three rounds. Took the Change staff from the chest and used RETURN to go to Noaniels. Went to the Elf Village and used the Change staff until I looked like a slime, then bought ten Wizard rings. Went to check on Newburg again (stage four, theater completed), and collected all the items there. Continued north to Greenlad and gave the staff to the old man there in exchange for the Bone. Used RETURN to go to Romaly and stayed at the inn, then used the Bone to locate the ghost ship (it always appears in the bay near Romaly at first). Got all the treasures, including two TinyMedals and the LuvMemory, then used RETURN to go to Noaniels and sailed east along the coast, then down the river to the Oliva Cape. Used the LuvMemory to break the curse, then continued to the shrine int he middle of the island and got another TinyMedal and the Gaia sword. Used RETURn to go to Ashalam. Stayed at the inn and sailed south to the volcano and used the Gaia sword there. Went back to Newburg and saw the scene south of the jail. Stayed at the inn, then left town and went back in. Spoke to the dealer in the jail, then got the Yellow Orb. RETUNED to Ashalam again and went south again, past the volcano to the Gondo cave. Monsters here are MUCH stronger than the ones I've fought before. Conserved my MP by using Herbs to heal outside of battle. Gondo Cave Went west then north to get to the second floor. Continued west to get the TinyMedal from the chest. Went back east, taking the southern fork to get the Thunder sword. Unfortunately, using it to cast Boom does less damage than using the Flame boomerang. Continued west and got the Blade armor, then went south and up to the third floor. None of the battles have been very difficult so far; most are concluded in 2-3 rounds, and, aside from the rather minor risk of being paralyzed or instantly killed by a Beat spell, aren't very dangerous. Went south again, taking the south fork when the path split again. Went east and up to the fourth floor. Went east and dropped down the hole. Got the TinyMedal hidden in the middle of the room, then took the stairs to the north. Followed the path and took the stairs at the end to the fifth floor. Went south and took the first bridge. Went east, then south at the fork, continued accross the second bridge, turned south at the fork agian, and followed the path to the exit. Along the way I had the incredible good fortune to encounter and score a critical hit on a Metabble with the Thunder sword, which got me about 40,000 XP and promoted me to level 36. Proceeded to the shrine and got the Silver Orb and the TinyMedal. RETURNED to Lancel, stayed at the inn, and sailed west to Liamland. Placed the orbs on the pedestals and flew Lamia to Bahahrata and stayed at the inn. Flew west to Baramos' castle and went inside. Section 4, The Battle With Baramos Decided to train here until level 40, then try Baramos. The only monsters posing much of a threat were EvilMages, who did about 50-60 damage to me with Blizzard and Blazemore. They can also cast HealAll and Sleep, and occasionally act before I do, which makes them even MORE fun. they give 1650 XP each though, which seems to be more than anything else in the area except Metabbles. The Dragon whip was a big help against them, often killing the first one in one blow. Got 65535 XP. Was promoted to level 41 and learned Thordain. After the scenes in Aliahan, I went to Newburg and got the TinyMedal there, then went to the Dragon Queen's castle and got the TinyMedal form there and the Light Orb. Section 5, The Dark World Went to the Giana pit to the east of Baramos' castle and jumped in. Got the seed and the TInyMedal form the harbor and left. Went east to Tantegel. Bought a Silver shiled and sold the Dragon shield. Got the TinyMedals in town and in the castle, got the SunStone, restocked my Herbs, and collected the items. Got the Pixy Map from the priest on the roof of the castle. Left town and went back to my ship. Sailed north to Garin's house and collected the items there, then continued east to Kol. Kragacles are incredibly annoying and pose a notable threat, as they do about 15-20 per hit and can get as many as three attacks per round, and are usually encountered in groups of three. WingDemons, near Kol, can cast Blazemost, which does about 100 damage. Goopis, while incredibly annoying, usually only do 1 damage per hit, and occasionally do as much as 10. Good for experience. Stayed at the inn in Kol and got the itmes there, including the Pixy flute. Didn't bother with the Pachisi track in the well yet. Went back to my ship and sailed back west, following the coast until I got to Domdora. Bought a Heal shield and sold the Silver shield. Got the TinyMedals and the Oricon, as well as some other tiems, and RETURNED to Kol. Sold the Oricon to the item shop owner, left town, re-entered, and bought the Kings sword from the Item shop. RETURNED to Domdora and boarded the ship again, continuing south along the coast until I reached the shrine on the southern part of the island. spoke to the fairy there and got the Rain staff. Left and went around the mountains north to Mercado. Gathered the items here and stayed at the inn, then boarded the ship and continued along the shore to the east to Rimuldar. Stayed at the inn and got the Life ring and the other items. RETURNED to Kol and sailed northwest to the tower on the small island. Tower west of Kol Went into the room to the north and opened the chest on the left (the otehr is a Mimc). Took the western fork, turned south and went up the stairs. Magwyverns are annoying. Went north on teh second floor and went into the room in the middle of the floor. Bottom left chest in the north group of chests is a mimic. Opened the other chests and continued east, then north to the stairs to the third floor. Went directly south and up the stairs to the fourth floor. Went north and west to get the Light armor from the chest. Went back down to the third floor by jumping through the hole. Exited the room to the south, then went west, then north. Opened the chest and went east. Went through the hoel in the wall to the north, then re-entered the tower and took the stairs to the west. Went east and took the staris to the third level, then the fourth, then on up to the top floor. Went south and into the room in the middle. Went up to the statue and used the PixyFlute. Recieved the Crest and cast OUTSIDE. RETURNED to Tantegel and stayed at the Inn, then went to the Nail Mark (cave north-northeast of Tantegel). Monsters here are relatively weak compared to the ones in the tower. Got the treasures on the third floor and left. Magic doesn't work here, but the Heal shield does. Went to the shrine on the island south of Rimuldar and got the Rainbow Drop. Stayed at the inn in Rimuldar and went to the nortwesternmost part of the island. Used the Rainbow Drop there and continued to Zoma's castle. Took about 30 damage per hit form them. Used some Herbs to heal after the second fight. Went north to the next room and searched behind the throne to find the stairs to the next floor. Navigated through the diamond-shaped tiles on the second floor and continued to the third. Got the 2-edge sword from the chest here before proceeding to the fourth floor. Battles with mutiple Archmages can be an ungodly demon pain in the ass from hell. In battles, I always leave one monster alive and use my Heal shield to restore all my HP before killing it, to conserve MP. Got the chests from the center room on the fourth floor (the one on the far right is a Mimic) and trained here until I was level 50. Left and saved, then attempted to fight Zoma. Used some herbs and a Wizard ring to restore before going north on floor 5. BOSS FIGHT, KingHydra There really isn't much to say about this fight. I traded blows with him and cast Healall when I needed to. I was dealing about 100-150 damage per round, and was taking about 50-80 damage from it's physical attack and 10-20 from it's fire breath. This was a relatively easy fight; I only had to cast Healall three or four times. Got 12200 XP. Restored my HP and MP and went north. BOSS FIGHT, BaraBomus Again, there isn't much to say about this fight. I was hitting for about 70-100 damage and taking about 50 from Explodet and his intense flames, which he sometimes used two or three times in one round. Healed when I needed to. Another relatively easy fight as long as you don't let your HP drop below 200 or so. Got 13500 XP. Restored my HP and MP again and continued north. BOSS FIGHT, BaraGonus Equipped the Blade armor for this fight. He likes to use physical attacks (in fact, I'm not sure he can actually do anything else). Was dealing about 150-200 damage with the Kings sword and taking about 150 in return from his physical attacks (and of course dealing about 75 to him in return, from the Blade armor). He gets two attacks every other round or so. Yet another relatively easy fight, as long as your HP stay above 300 or so. Had to cast Healall every two or three rounds. Got 14300 XP. Left and saved my game. Came back and confronted Zoma. BOSS FIGHT, Zoma Took about 120 damage from his Blizzard breath and a Blizzard spell the first round before I could use the LightOrb. Also had the Blade armor equipped for this fight because roughly one quarter to one third of his attacks are physical and were doing about 100-120 damage to me. Was dealing about 100-150 damage to him with the Kings sword and taking anywhere between 100-200 damage per round in return (usually closer to 200). Cast Healall whenever I got near or below 250 HP. Had to heal every two or three rounds. Defeated him without having to use a Wizard ring and with 137 MP left. Overall, not a terribly difficult fight, as long as you're careful. Section 6, Other Tips -Level up. A lot. -Save often. -ALWAYS have a sword, whip, AND boomerang in your inventory, and switch between them as the situation dictates. It will save you a lot of trouble. -Always buy the best equipment available, at the earliest opportunity, no matter what. If you don't have the money for it, go earn it (and I DON'T mean by gambling at the monster arenas). While you're earning the gold for your new equipment, you'll also be earning experience. -Level up some more. -Carry LOTS of Herbs and USE THEM. -Try to run from monsters that can paralyze you, unless you're SURE you can beat them in the first round. If you're alone and get paralyzed, the game counts it as getting killed. Also follow this rule with monsters that can cast Beat or Defeat. -Equip the Starry ring as soon as you get it. It doubles your Agility, and going first in a battle can spell the difference between winning and losing, and even when it doesn't, it can help you avoid a good deal of damage. Never remove it. -Ortega's helm helps you avoid a lot of negative status effects, which is why I never removed it once I got it, even though there are helmets that grant better defense. I suggest acquiring it immediately after getting the ship. You can also walk to Muor from Baharata, but it's a rather long way, and the monsters around Muor on land are rather strong. By the time you can defeat them, you shouldn't have any problems defeating Kandar the second time. -Level up even more. -Walk and/or sail EVERYWHERE. Do NOT use Repel. The random encounters along the way to whereever it is you're going are good for gaining gold and experience. Section 7, Stuff This guide was written by Ricky Patterson, August 2004.
