チョロQ64 2 ハチャメチャグランプリレース ChoroQ 64 2:Chaotic Grand Prix Race Contents 1.Introduction 2.Manual Translation 1.Introduction Developed by Locomotive Corporation and released on Christmas Eve 1999 in Japan only, Choro Q 2 is the sequel to the racing game known in the west as Penny Racers. It is actually the 12th game in the Choro Q franchise as most of the series was released on the Playstation. So it is not to be confused with Choro Q on the Playstation, which is a totally different game. The major change in this game are collectible coins which increase the attack power of weapons and you can now jump with the R Button. A Shinkansen 700 and a Space Shuttle along with the series antagonist car, the Mad Special can be found in this version. The game is compatible with the Game Boy Color game Choro Q Hyper Customable GB, using the GB Transfer Pak. This is the last game Takara released for the N64. The British publication, N64 Magazine did not review Choro Q 2 but they did review Penny Racers awarding it 56% calling it a “painfully slow clockwork racer. Tedious.” As of 2020, 26 Choro Q games have been released. The name Choro Q is derived from a combination of the word cute and the onomatopoeia, chorochoro which is used for small things that dart rapidly about. They are 3-4 cm small pull back toys produced by Takara. They were first produced in 1978, and they sold about 10 million units in that year. By putting a penny in the back of the car they will do a wheelie, hence the name Penny Racers in the west. The toys have real rubber wheels but are quite cheap so they have maintained popularity for a long time. Since most cars have similar size parts and structure it is easy to take them apart and do a ”tune up” on them, which is where the idea of parts swapping in the game comes from. In the west Penny Racers follow the Hot Wheels strategy of garish gimmick cars. However in Japan Choro Q have a big adult collector market due to their realistic miniature re-creations of real cars. The ハチャメチャ or hachimecha in the title has many meanings including absurd, reckless, chaotic or super. In kanji it is written 破茶滅茶 which literally means "broken tea destroyed tea", I suppose it was a word that was born after a fight during a tea ceremony. I hope you agree that the word "chaotic" covers most of those definitions whilst also sound appropriate for a game title for children. I would like to thank Ozidual. Without his hard work, this guide would not have been possible. He has been tirelessly scanning and uploading Japanese N64 game manuals at extremely high quality. He is also assisting in many N64 translation projects and fixed the trophy glitch in Space Station Silicon Valley. I am very grateful for your efforts towards preserving video game history.
