************************************** *Bust A Move 2: Dance Tengoku Mix FAQ* * by * * Joel Alambra * * ver. 1.11 * ************************************** ----------- FAQ History ----------- ver. 1.11 (3/23/00) - Realized I mispelled the title :P. Updated credits info. ver. 1.10 (4/20/99) - Added Point System, Intensity Bar, best time to attack, points lost for getting hit with an attack, questionable Center Bars, and comboing screw ups. ver. 1.01 (4/18/99) - Added the possible playable stages, FAQ History, more Other Stuff, and updated The Bars in the Center of the Screen. ver. 1.00 (4/18/99) - This FAQ ----------- How to Play ----------- Just like part one, you input the arrow commands and/or button commands (if you chose Mix) before pressing the correct button or arrow (if you chose Easy) on the fourth beat. The input commands don't have to be on beat, but the last input has to be on the fourth beat. -------------- Styles of Play -------------- In part two you have a choice of picking Easy, Normal, or Mix (hard) after choosing your character. If you choose Easy, all the commands will be done using arrows. If you choose Normal, the input commands are like part one. Arrows and then X or O on the fourth beat. If you choose Mix, the input commands are a combination of the arrows, X, O, Triangle, and Square. ------- Attacks ------- Each character can attack up to two times. To attack press the correct button on the fourth beat. If you choose Normal or Mix mode the attack is the R1 button. If you choose Easy mode the attack is the O button. The number of bubbles in the lower left corner and lower right corner are the number of attacks remaining for player 1 and player 2, respectively. If an attack lands the person hit loses 1000 points. The best time to attack is 2 dance moves (8-beats) before a solo. If the attack is successful, not only does the person lose 1000 points, but they also lose their solo as well. Their solo goes to you. This is a great way to earn points. ---------------- Dodging/Blocking ---------------- All attacks can be blocked or dodged. To dodge press the correct button on the fourth beat. If in Normal or Mix mode press the R2 button. If in Easy mode press the X button. ---------- Reflecting ---------- Instead of dodging or blocking an attack you can reflect the opponent's attack back at an opponent. To reflect an attack press the correct button on the fourth beat. If you choose Normal or Mix mode the reflect is the R1 button. If you choose Easy mode the reflect is the O button. Attacks can be reflected back and fourth until someone screws up or dodges. Reflects do not use up an attack on your part. ------------------------------------ The Bars in the Center of the Screen ------------------------------------ While playing, you'll notice that there are three bars in the bottom center of the screen. The green, red, and blue bars represents the players' cool, chillin, and freeze. The bars can be anywhere from 1 to 3 blocks high. A bar is added if a cool, chllin, or freeze is done by either player. The bar goes back to 1 if it's already at a height of 3. The bars act as a type of lottery system. If the bars are all aligned (say they're all at a height of 2) they start to pulsate. I'm not sure anymore as to how the lottery is awared. It can be awared to both people though. The lottery seems to double the normal score for each move you execute. You know you have it if your score bar is changing colors. You lose the lottery after some time. ------------ Point System ------------ This is best seen in practice mode. If you go to practice mode you'll notice a little bar moving along the bottom of the input commands. You're score is affected only by the last beat. The ideal time to press the button on the final beat is when the bar is in the center (by center I mean the bar is directly under the final command and in the middle.) You'll know you did this right if the final command jumps out at you. You are awared more points this way and the length of your dance is extended, depending on your intensity bar. Commands prior to the fourth beat need not be on beat. However, pressing them on beat may help you stay on beat. ------------- Intensity Bar ------------- Surrounding your score is your character's intensity bar. At the start of the stage it starts off blue in color. As you dance the bar starts to change colors. It goes from blue, to light blue, to green, to orange-red, and then to red. Your dances get longer and more complex as the bar changes color. You are also awared more points the more intense the bar, and hence your dance, is. The greatest intensity you can have is red. The intensity bar changes color constantly if you have won the lottery. ---------- Characters ---------- The following is the order of characters on the selection screen: Heat Comet Shorty Strike Tsutomu Capoeira Bi-O Hiro Kitty-N Kelly Columbo Robo-Z Gold Pander Sushi Boy McLoad Chichi & Sally Michael Doi Hustle Kong --------------- Playable Stages --------------- Heat Comet Shorty Strike Tsutomu Capoeira Bi-O Hiro Kitty-N Kelly Robo-Z Gold Pander ------------- 1-Player Path ------------- When in one player you can traverse the following path from left to right: X X X X X X X X X X X X X X X X Should you traverse along the following path: O O O O O X X X O O O X X X X X You will play against Pander after Robo-Z Gold. You go along this path if you get high scores in the stages. ------- Secrets ------- I got all these characters playing on Normal mode and traversing the Pander path, therefore, I'm not sure if you can get these characters on other paths or modes. Columbo: Beat the game with Shorty Robo-Z Gold: Beat the game on Mix mode Pander: Beat the game with Robo-Z Gold ChiChi & Sally: Beat the game with Capoeira Sushi Boy, McLoad, Michael Doi, and Hustle Kong: Just keep playing, they'll show up eventually. ----------- Other Stuff ----------- Characters not returning from Bust a Move 1 are Frida, Hamm, Pinky, and Gas-O. Either that or they're really well hidden. Getting Pander allows you to play on his stage. Robo-Z Gold's stage can only be played on if at least one person is Robo-Z Gold Press O for the default outfit and Triangle for the alternative outfit. There are no other possible stages to play on. I have explored the CD and there is only music for those stages above. It is possible to get a dual fever time. This happens when both players have a high score and the scores are close to each other. This point range is about 1000 and under from what I've observed. You can "COOL" screw ups. Just keep missing and your character will combo the misses. You know the person's combing if the words appear in gray. The person will eventually fall to the floor and go into a freeze pose. ---------- Legal Crap ---------- You may not steal any info from this FAQ and use it as your own.
