Bust A Move 2: Dance Heaven Mix FAQ Ver 9.681 Updated on 7/8/99 By: Johnny Foodmaster (legend@ici.net) *I just want to take this time to say that this my most favorite game in the whole world* ^_^ Table of Contents ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Revision History 2. Game Modes 3. Characters 4. Stages 5. Controls 6. Secrets and things 7. Rumors and things 8. Things to come 9. Requests 10. Thanks 11. Mod Help (how I beat the lockout!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEGAL MUMBO-JUMBO I'm writing this faq cuz I LOVE this series of games. I don't want anyone stealing my work or anything and taking credit for it, especially any stinkin game magazines or mail order places (you know who you are). I've heard bad stories of cool writers' faqs bein taken and sold or put in game magazines and stuff like that. So I guess what I'm tryin to say is that this is all copyrighted as unpublished work by ME! Thanks! ^_^ Another thing: This game has that INFERNAL mod chip lockout on it. That bothers me when I buy a game and I can't play it. I found a way around it though. I didn't use a gameshark either. Check out section 11 below! =================== 1. Revision History =================== 0.1 4/17/99 I just got the game 2 hours ago. Gimme a break ^_^ 0.2 4/17/99 my friend and Me have played this game for about 8 hours now. I've updated the secrets and the stages and also the characters. I added the Game Modes section and the 'How I defeated the mod lockout' section. There will be more coming as I play the game more and more! (Is that possible? ^_^) 0.3 4/19/99 I got the Gameshark/PAR codes! (check the secrets section!). I updated the character info. I added people that have contributed and helped me. I messed around with the control section too. I did some other things. Look for em :) 0.4 4/20/99 I FINALLY unlocked the last character, McLoad. Quick update of some random stuff too. 8.9 5/12/99 This is probably gonna be my last revision. There isn't much to say about this game beyond what's gonna be said here. If there is though, you can probably find it in another of the great BAM2 faqs on Gamefaqs. :) 9.681 7/8/99 This is my Otakon (anime con in Baltimore this year) update! I just wanted up to update a few things that I learned in my hours and hours of playing my friend at her house and all the people I played at the con (I only lost 4 times all weekend out of at least 40 games ^_^. I'm so proud of myself. Now I know all those hours of playing were good for something...er...wait. Maybe they were! :) ) I also prettied up some of the stuff that was a little hazy. So, if you have questions or comments email me!! (legend@ici.net) =================== 2. Game Modes =================== -1 Player mode: Push Start and go Bust a Move by yourself! Get the endings and unlock secret characters! There are a few different paths that characters take. If you really rip it up and get crazy fever times you'll go by the top path which is the path to unlocking secret characters :) -2 Player mode: Push a controller on your friend and make him/her play against you! I think it's the most fun to play against someone else! -Practice: Pick a character and you will get to just go and practice you move busting. Good for new players. It helps you get the timing down better. -Dance View: You get to play with the whole list of moves for the character you choose. You can make your own little routine and watch it. It is only available for characters that you have finished the game with. -Options: Here you can save/load to your memory card. You can adjust how loud things are and you can also listen to the music of the game here. It's all in English so don't worry about not bein able to understand anything. =================== 3. Characters =================== Old School Characters **** When selecting characters, you can either push select and O to get the 2nd costume or just push the triangle! **** Heat Age: 20 Icon: 2 flames Style: Break Dancing Attack: Flame attack Reg Costume: Mostly white with red trim. 2nd Costume: Mostly red with white trim. The poster character from the first game returns for some good ole break dancing. He looks pretty much the same except he's wearing some really short pants. Strike Age: 22 Icon: A hand with a money bag in it. Style: Gangster Groove Attack: He pulls out a machine gun and starts goin crazy! Reg Costume: Same as BAM. Black tanktop with black pants. Guns on his hip. 2nd Costume: Same as BAM. Yellow shirt with black pants. Guns on hips. Everyone's favorite convict returns with his crazy bug eye glasses. He is dressed almost exactly the same except he doesn't drink outta his flask before the match. Hiro-kun Age: 21 Icon: A lit cigarette Style: Old School '70s disco on the Nathology Tip (I LOVE that line from BAM) Attack: He pulls out a picture of himself and throws it at you. Reg Costume: White leisure suit, John Travolta stylee! 2nd Costume: I think he's the skipper from Gilligan's Island. He wears a blue/white striped shirt, white pants, sunglasses and a skipper's hat! The natural playboy also returns as the John Travolta wannabe. He sports the same bellbottoms and stuff that made him so popular (with who?) in the first game. His fans still yell for him while he dances too. "Hiro-kun!" Shorty Age: 12 Icon: Looks like a ladies' room sign Style: Fly Girl (YES that's the name of the style ^_^) Attack: She drops a big-ass cake on you. Reg Costume: Blue pants with white shirt. Columbo sits on her head. 2nd Costume: Cool baggy outfit with her hair all tied up with ribbons. Big S on her shirt and Columbo on her back! She's the same cute girl from the first game, but with a different hair do. Columbo's perched on her head too instead of in her pocket. She seems to have taken a bit of dance training from Kelly's BAM routine. Capoeira Age: ?? Icon: Looks like a knot Style: Capoeira (duh) Attack: They hit you with something that shrinks your body but leaves your head big. It's pretty funny! Reg Costume: Same as BAM. Silver shiny skin. 2nd Costume: They have green shiny skin! Way cool! The duo of cool shiny aliens has the moves that made em so cool. Sometimes they even dance together instead of just along side eachother which ROCKS! Kelly Age: 24 Icon: Crossing Guard (or something like that) Style: R&B Attack: She pulls out her megaphone and SCREAMS to knock you over. Reg Costume: Crossing guard uniform with a light baton. **drool** 2nd Costume: Suit pants and suit jacket with a drawn on mustache, carrying a cane. Goodness. She seems to have made the biggest change. She dropped the 'dress like a baby' fetish and moved onto a cute lil crossing guard outfit. Maybe she wants to be in the village people. Her moves are just as nasty though. Go to dance view and explore. Hehe, you'll be glad you did! Kitty Nakajima (Kitty N) Age: 17 Icon: Can of Tuna Style: Stage Dance (like Vegas or Broadway. Remember 'Fame'? ^_^) Attack: Calls a giant claw that picks you up and drops you. Reg Costume: White outfit with mechanized pants. 2nd Costume: Black outfit with mechanized pants. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! She's my fave and just as cool as before. She looks like she traded in her sheer pants for a pair of mechanized pants. She makes some cool mech noises too. She's the coolest one of all! New School Characters! Tsutomu Age: 11 Icon: A 10 with a circle around it Style: Some type of Latin dance Attack: A door opens in front of you and a brick hits you in the face. Reg Costume: Blue school uniform with shiny shoes and backpack. 2nd Costume: Red school uniform with shiny shoes and backpack. Where the heck did this kid come from? Did Geppetto make another Pinnochio or something? He looks alot like Pinnochio with the shiny shoes and his backpack. He has a cool flute too. Comet Age: 16 Icon: A cocktail Style: Rollerblade Groove (or something :)) Attack: She turns you into something at random. Reg Costume: White waitress outfit with a little skirt. 2nd Costume: Black bunny outfit (with ears!). Much like the playboy girls of the 60s. She is a rollerblading waitress at a sushi truckstop. At least that's what it looks like. Her dance moves are really cool and her skirt is really short. Bi-O Age: 47 Icon: A skull Style: Zombie Boogie (hehe) Attack: He pulls his head off and throws it at you and it takes a bite. Reg Costume: Green skin with a blue suit. 2nd Costume: Red/Orange skin with a blue suit. Bi-O is Gas-O's dad. He looks like a Scooby Doo monster. He's got an axe thru his head too and he's missing the flesh on one of his legs or something too. You'll find out why when you finish the game with him. Hehe. Other (secret) Characters Columbo Age: ?? Icon: A question mark Attack: Fly Girl (he has to be like somebody) Style: Same as Shorty (whatever that is) Reg Costume: Brown fur and a baseball hat 2nd Costume: Lighter fur and no hat. He's Shorty's pet mouse! He dances just the same as she does. Sushi Boy Age: ?? Icon: A question mark Style: Rollerblade Groove Attack: Dunno Reg Costume: Silver metal 2nd Costume: Pinkish purple metal. He is the guy on the Sushi billboard in Comet's stage. He looks like a little oil drum on roller skates. ChiChi and Sally Age: ?? Icon: A questions mark Style: Capoeira Attack: Dunno Reg Costume: One of em is pink and the other is blue. I don't know which is which. 2nd Costume: One of em is green and the other is orange. These are the little guys bouncing around in Capoeira's background. They must be fellow aliens or something. Michael Doi Age: ?? Icon: A question mark Style: Same as Kitty N (He IS her teacher Attack: Dunno Reg Costume: Tight white pants and a shirt tied in the front. Heh. 2nd Costume: Black body suit with a red shirt tied in front and a red sash He's Kitty N's dance teacher who turns out to only like men and won't give her a 2nd look. Too bad. His loss :) McLoad Age: ?? Icon: A question mark Style: Um.. I think he dances like Kelly Attack: He breathes fire and stuff Reg Costume: Green scales 2nd Costume: Pinkish purple scales He's the dinosaur from Shorty's stage. He dances now though. How strange. Hustle Kong Age: ?? Icon: A question mark Style: Hustle maybe? He dances like Hiro Attack: He throws a picture of himself at you. Reg Costume: Brown fur and boxing trunks. Weird 2nd Costume: Blue fur and the same boxing trunks. Still weird. He dances like Hiro. I think he's the King Kong looking thing that comes out of the screen if you really rip it up in Hiro's stage. Robo Z Age ?? Icon: An electrical outlet with a plug near it. Style: Kata (Some kind of martial arts ballet?) Attack: Shoots a missile at you. Reg Costume: Looks like Mazinger Z with wings and all. Gold with silver trim and red wings. 2nd Costume: Silver with gold trim and blue wings. It's Robo Z, with wings. ^_^ Pander Age: ?? (Freaks can be any age :) ) Icon: A small house with a Japanese character in it. Style: Ballet Attack: Hits you with that hundred hands smack! Reg Costume: Looks like a human panda. WAY freaky. 2nd Costume: Looks the same as above but with a little flower on his head. Damn. This guy is WEIRD! The character select screen has a pic of a REAL person that looks like he's spraypainted to look like a panda. Yikes. All I can say is "Get yourself another shoe ya freak!" ^_^ =================== 4. Stages =================== Heat: Looks like some kind of steel mill. The characters dance on some kind of elevator that moves over the molten stuff. Strike: It takes place in a bank vault. Looks like the bank manager is tied up in the background. Hiro: Same as BAM. A color changing floor with a Jumbotron in the background. Shorty: Some kind of jungle ride at an amusement park. Both characters dance on a little raft floating thru the jungle environment. Very cool. Tsutomu: You dance on the top of a house. It looks like it's a haunted house. Weird stuff goes on here. Comet: The parking lot of a crazy sushi stand with lots of neon lights. Burger Dog from BAM is working the counter. Bi-O: The dancing ground is the deck of a pirate ship. I don't know what it has to do with anything, but it's kinda cool. Capoeira: Back in the ole Capoeira space ship flying thru space with earth in the background. Kelly: Out in the street. Looks like right after Robo Z had his/her way with the street in the last stage of BAM. There are some broken cars and stuff. It doesn't look like she's a very good crossing guard/traffic director. It must be the shorts. Kitty N: In a TV studio, apparently on the stage of her TV show since she is a big TV star. There are little planes on strings flying thru. It's cool. Robo Z: Tokyo Bay, right next to the bridge. Your character is in a helicopter flying around Robo Z while he/she dances in the bay. It's cooler than Robo Z's stage in BAM Pander: This is the trippiest, freakiest thing I've seen in a game. Check for yourself. All I can say is...whoa. ^_^ ****A note about the stages: There is a bar between both characters points bar. It consists of 3 separate columns of colored squares. The Green is cool. The Pink is chillin' and the Blue is freeze. For every one of the cool/chillin'/freeze you get or your opponent gets one of the corresponding bar will be added to the column. If all three columns are at the same height and another cool/chillin'/freeze is done something cool will happen in the background. It took me a while to figure that out. I think it says so in the instruction book, but I can't read it cuz it's all in character. ^_^ I would take this time to tell you of the cool stuff that happens in the stages when you do all the cool stuff, but I'll let you see them for yourself :) =================== 5. Controls =================== If you've played Bust A Move (Bust a Groove *shutter*) You know how to play this game. Enix (the coolest game company ever) has made a few adjustments and additions. They added the use of the Square and Triangle buttons in the dance moves. Lemme break it down here now Up, Down, Left, Right - Used to input the commands used to make your character bust a move. In easy mode they are used at the end of commands too. Circle, X - Used in normal mode at the end of your commands. In easy mode they are block and attack respectively. ** Square, Triangle - Used in mix mode at the end of your commands along with the circle and X buttons. ** ** In mix mode, they put Circle, X, Square and Triangle button presses in with the arrows which is a cool addition in my opinion. R1 - Used as the attack button in normal and mix mode. Use it at the end of your controller motion to attack your opponent. Also, hit it EXACTLY on the 4th beat when your opponent attacks you and you reflect the attack back at them. I like to use that strategy cuz they barely ever expect it. R2 - Used as the Block or Avoid button in normal and mix mode. Use it when your opponent tries to attack you. Hit it at the end of your controller motion. Actually, I don't think you need to do the controller motion first. I've blocked things when I have only put in the first command of the motion. Try for yourself. :) ***A note about button pushing. If you hit the final command on the PERFECT part of the 4th beat, you will see the final command expand a little bit. You will get 30 pts I think. If you get all perfect 4th beats right off the bat, you will get up to a 'Cool' instead of stopping at a '4 Combo' ***Cool note about attacking. If you attack your opponent and they go down just before the solo part of the song you will get your solo AND the other character's solo cuz they will be hunched over all tired. You have to hit the attack button 8 beats before the solo cuz it takes 4 beats to get the attack off. When I played at Otakon, there was only ONE person who refelected attacks and he and I had a little tennis match with an attack. =================== 6. Secrets and things =================== Gameshark/PAR codes!!!! Use these codes to play BAM2 on a mod chipped Playstation. I got em and tested em. They work like a charm. I've read you need at least a 2.0 Gameshark to work them though. D008FB02 1040 8008FB02 1000 My friend and I have managed to unlock the following: Columbo: Finished the game on normal with Shorty. ChiChi and Sally: Finished the game with Capoeira on normal. Pander: Finish the game with Robo Z The rest: There is no certain way to get certain characters with other characters except the ones mentioned above. I think that to unlock characters you have to go all thru the top path and to do that you have to get all fever times. That's the best thing I can offer :) Well, those are how I personally did unlock th echaracters. I've heard a million different ways. I was at my friend's house and tried to unlock Pander with RoboZ and it didn't work. I have NO idea what the official way to unlock characters is. I think it's totally random actually. Heh, all these people trying to figure out the EXACT way and there's probably no exact way. ^_^ Don't feel bad. I was fooled too. =================== 7. Rumors and things =================== Hmm, I don't think there are anymore unsolved rumors or things ^_^ =================== 8. Things to come =================== I don't think there will be anything else to come. I think I've covered just about everything. Hmm, if I haven't I'm sure you can find it in another of the cool faqs out there on the 'net. =================== 9. Requests =================== If you know some stuff that can help me out with improving this faq and adding to it then let me know via email, please! (legend@ici.net). I'll give credit where credit is due, so don't worry about that at all. I just wanna get this info out for all the movers and shakers playin this game who need it! =================== 10. Thanks =================== I wanna thank ENIX cuz they are SOOO cool and came up with such a good idea for a game! I am completely addicted already to this game! I don't see much sleep in the near future! Thanks ENIX! I would thank Sony, but since they put the mod lockout on the game then that kinda nullifies the thanks. ^_^ Also, thanks to Tronix (www.tronixweb.com) for bein a great importer and sending me this game overnight so I wouldn't have to wait till after Patriot's day. Also, a big thanks goes out to all the TONS of people who sent me email about this faq. I am pretty impressed with myself here. I didn't think I'd actually do it :) **Contributors** Chris Moynihan (cleocrazy@aol.com) - For playin against me ALL the time. I've taught him well. He can beat me good once in a while now. Now that Shorty is back, he's in heaven. Carolyn Cucinotta - For gettin all excited about BAM. Now, I have hooked her up with BAM2 and she and I played for about 6 days straight when I went to see her. I have trained her well in the Jedi art of Bust A Move 2 :) Demond Rogers (d2gers@hotmail.com) - Hooked me up with the Gameshark/PAR codes! Thanks! You're the bomb biggidy! :P Justin Chang (blinkjustin@yahoo.com) -Same reason as above :) Anime Sensai (anime_sensai@fcmail.com) - Exchanged ideas with me about secret character unlocking! Tatewaki ? ?? (tatew@hotmail.com) - Updated me on some of the cool extras in stages and another way to get alternate costumes! He also helped me with some attacks and things like that! Thanks! Zordon (zordon@mindway.com) - Discussed via email with me some strategy for unlocking characters and things like that. Donnie Wells (dwells@ns.gemlink.com) - Told me a bit about Tsutomu Katey Fawley (ukyo1@home.com) - Gave me lots of info that I had wrong about RoboZ, Tsutomu and some other helpful stuff too! She rocks! Shinri Yagura (kitty-n@mailcity.com) - For bein WAY crazy and bein a huge Bust A Move fan just like me! All the people in the Gameroom playing BAM2 at Otakon - I got to practice alot and play against some really good players. There was one tall guy but I didn't get his name or anyone's name for that matter. I need more challengers in the Boston area! =================== 11. Mod Help (How I beat the lockout) =================== Mod Lockout info! Stuff you'll need: 1. Simple on/off toggle switch (you can get 2 at radio shack for 1.29) 2. About 12 inches of the same kinda wire that's on your modchip. Here are the instructions: 1. Cut the length of wire in half. 2. Attach one end of each length to the switch. Now you should have a long length of wire with an on/off switch in the middle. 3. Detach the power wire from your modchip and the main board of the PSX. It's the wire attached to pin 1. It's usually the red wire. 4. Now, attach one end of the length of wire with the switch in the middle to pin 1 of your modchip and the other end to where the wire should attach on the main board (the place you unattached the wire a second ago) 5. Make it so the switch sticks out the back of your PSX from the same area that the parallel port is. 6. Put the PSX back together now. 7. Now, you'll have to judge when to shut the switch off. Boot the game and find out when the little screen with the red circle with the slash thru it comes up. Now, when you boot the game again, turn the switch off just before that screen comes up and the game should go smooth. It took me a couple tries, but I got it. You should be able to also! ^_^ Basically, what you're doin is replacing the power line of your modchip with this length of wire with an on/off switch. It's that simple :) ****There's one other thing though. If you can back up your games with a CD writer, you might be able to find a little program that patches the CD image you create and when you burn the image to a blank CD there won't be any lockout on it. ****Any questions or comments, please email me! I like to get email :)**** I have all this stuff saved and I have a dexdrive, so if you want my save, please email me. One stipulation though, I don't want it to get posted somewhere on the net. I'd rather you just use it for personal stuff. I don't have the dance view for all the question mark characters, but I'm workin on it. I'm on BAM2 burnout. ^_^
