Final Fantasy 2 (Final Fantasy Origins) written by Alex Chong Wai Hon aka. Misfiring Version 1.2 wai_hon_chong66@hotmail.com 1. Introduction Hai! I'm just another bored student who spend free times on games. I play Final Fantasy Origins recently, and although the first one is quite boring, Final Fantasy 2 is fun enough that I use a month to research the best way of playing. I must say that i'm quite impressed by the improved graphics. There're lots of ways to play it, so find your own style. Another thing is that this is a FULL guide, so if you make some progress of your own then follow mine, there'll be several differences and can spoil your original plan. This guide included an example of the weapons that I use at the beginning, since you can use any weapons of your own choice at the start. However, you can't change your weapon type after start using through, or your weapon level will be low. As for armors, you can plan yourself, because there's no sure ways of using your armor, and any character can use almost any armor (although there's some armor specially for mages, I'll make a note about it). Well, I start this guide rather late, and it's only for fun. So please forgive me if I miss any item pickups and didn't make myself clear sometimes. Im not excellent in English, so any wrong spelling is unavoidable. Because im been refering the game itself for character stats and enemy stats, it'll certainly be different from the other version of Final Fantasy 2. Therefore, this guide is for Final Fantasy 2 in the Final Fantasy Origins only. This guide is made for PRIVATE and PERSONAL use only. Using it to make profit, no matter in any kind of mortified forms and shapes, is against the law, so don't. You can do anything you want, print it, give it to anybody you want, or even reshape it for your own referance, as long as you don't get any profits from it. I'll let you put this guide on your website, but it's best to let me know by email. I'll reply shortly. If anybody want to refer my guide's weapon stats and any character's stats, but not strategy for beating boss and tune characters, to make you own guide, you may do so, just credit me in your guide. 2. Basics Im sure that you can master the game real quick, but I give a short guide about the controls anyway, Final Fantasy 2 has a unique leveling system, and it's not something that you can understand quickly. So it's important that you take time to learn it's battle system. You can change the controls in the Configuration menu, but the triangle and O cannot be configured. Use the directional pad to move your characters around, and press O to dash (doesn't work in world map). Battles are random, although some places have no battles. triangle is menu, and if your PS controller have L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons, you can set up shortcuts to the specific menu. Item: Open item slots. You can store item like potions and unused weapons and armors. Magic: Show all character's magic. You can learn magic by selecting that magic scroll you want him/her to learn, then select that character. Each character can learn a maximum of 16 spells. Spells are divided to 2 types, Spirit and Intelligence. Equipment: Use this to change your character's weapons and armors. You can also let them equip 2 items, since you cant access the item slots when doing battles. Don't use the "best defence" and "strongest" command, as it'll mess up your character's equipments and give the wrong type of weapons. Status: You can see each character's stats. They're very important, and you should check it very often, as it decides what "role" your character will be. If you want a character to be the physical fighter, he should have high Strength and Endurance, and if you want a character to be mage, he should have high magic and Spirit/Intelligence depends on what type of spells they use. Formation: Switch your character to fight in the back row and vice-vesa. Back row are immune to physical attacks, unless all characters in the front row dies, but characters in the back row cannot hit the enemy with melee weapons (essentially all weapons except bow). I highly recommend letting all characters to stand in the front row, so that they can receive damage and improve their Strength, Endurance and Max HP. Keywords: You can see which keywords your character remembered. Keywords are essential in the storyline, so don't forget to use them. Config. :Shortcut for Configuration, it let you change in-game settings and even view what monster you fight before and their stats. I'll let you explore this on your own :). Memo Files: A temporary save file. You can use this right before fighting a boss, or before entering a door. You can only save game in the world map, so if you're in a cave or a dungeon, you cant save your game. This'll let you memorise your progress, but will be deleted when the PS is switched off. Save game: The real save game that saves your game in the memory card. You can only use it on the world map through. I'll explain the stats of your characters, so you can plan your character's role carefully. Attack: Your attack power, affecting the damage you do. It'll be increase when your Strength is increased, or when you switch to a more powerful weapon. Very important for fighters. Accuracy: Affects the chance to hit the enemy. If your accuracy is too low, you'll miss more when you attack. This will be increase depends on the weapons (some weapons have bad accuracy because of the special effects they do). This will also be increased when you level up your weapon skills. If you let your character use 2 weapons, his accuracy will be lowered a little. Defence: Affects the damage you receive from physical attacks. It varies depends on the armor you wear. Evasion: Chances to evade a physical attack. It increases when your character successfully evade attacks (depends by chances). It'll also increases when your character level up his shield level (if your character is using a shield). Magic defence: Affect the damage you take from magics and spells. It'll increase when your character is taking damage from spells. Strength: It adds extra damage to the damages you do. Very important for fighters. It increases if your character use weapons usually instead of spells. It lowers when your character's spirit increased. Endurance: Gives extra protection against physical attacks. Again, very important for fighters. It increase if your character is being hited usually. It lowers when your character's intelligence is increased. Spirit: Makes white magic stronger. Very important for white mages and try to max it near the end of the game. It'll increase if you use white magics. Agility: This stat determined which character attacks first. The character with the highest agility almost always attack first, and the one with the least attack last. It also determined if you have the first move or the enemy. If your agility is really high, you'll almost always attacks first. It'll increase if one of your character attacks first (depends by chance sometimes). By increasing agility, you'll sometimes also increase evasion. Intelligence: Makes black magic stronger. Very important for black mages and try to max it at the end of the game to get the best effects. It'll increase if you use black magic. It lowers when your character's strength increased. Magic: It determined which character cast spells first. The one with the highest stat casts first. It'll increase when you usually cast magic instead of attack, and use lots of mana also increases this stat. You'll also see your weapon level at the right. It's harder to level up once your weapon level is high. The same rules applied to spells. 3. Weapons Next I'll explain the types of weapons FF2 got, and list them out. Bare handed *********** If you use hands to fight, there's no need to use any weapons, saving gils. However, you'll have to watch your strength, as it determined how strong your attack is. Bare handers cannot use lots of spells at the same time, because it'll affect your stats, and stat means everything here. Dont be fooled by the attack stat, you can do more damage than you expected. Weapon level is also important, as you cant "upgrade" your hand. Dagger type *********** They tend to be the weakest weapons, but they have excellent accuracy, so they're the best choice to use as a second weapon. They're also the cheapest in most case. Knife Attack: 3 Accuracy: 75% Buy it from Altair and cost 150 gil. Dagger Attack: 7 Accuracy: 65% Buy it from Paloom and Phin. Cost 250 gil. Mythril Knife Attack: 14 Accuracy: 67% Buy it from altair after you give Tobul the mithril. Cost 800 gil. Main Gauche Attack: 32 Accuracy: 70% You get this from the chest on the third floor in the Dreadnought. Orchalidagger Attack: 50 Accuracy: 72% You get this in the chest on the lowest floor of Castle Fynn's basement. Ripper Attack: 69 Accuracy: 75% You get this in the Cyclone after you use the first stairs you see. I once saw Gotoos drop this too, so if you get this before the Cyclone, consider yourself lucky. It brought off a second damage after the initial one, depends how many hits you launched on the enemy. Cat's Claw Attack: 86 Accuracy: 80% You get this in the second floor of the Jade Passage. Sometimes Mantis King drops this, so if you get it (they can be found after you get the Ultima Scroll near Mysidia), consider yourself lucky too :). Sword type ********** Swords are not that strong at first, but they start to shine in mid-game, and the strongest weapon in the game is sword type. So have at least one character use swords. They also have good accuracy and is a good choice for a second weapon. Broadsword Attack: 8 Accuracy: 60% Furion starts with this. Can be brought at Altair for 400 gil. Long Sword Attacks: 13 Accuracy: 50% Most shops sell this but not Altair. Cost 600 gil. Mythril Sword Attack: 20 Accuracy: 50% Can be brought from Altair and Paloom after you give Tobul the mythril. Cost 1800 gil. Also get this in Kas'ion. Ancient Sword Attack: 25 Accuracy: 10% Get this from the firth floor of the Snow Cavern. It curses enemy when you hit it, but it has a really bad accuracy, so it misses usually. I personally don't use it and sell it to get more gil. You get 2500 gil for it. Crescent Attack: 30 Accuracy: 10% Get this in a room in the dreadnought. It hits a little better than Ancient sword, but still misses mostly. It works quite well on the first Hill Gigas you meet in the dreadnought. It makes the hited enemy sleep for a few rounds. I sell it after coming out of the dreadnought. It worth 4000 gil :). Wing Blade Attack: 42 Accuracy: 56% You first get this in a room at the Deist Castle, but from there it took quite a while before you can buy it. Orge Chieftan drop this sometimes, so if you got it from them, consider yourself quite lucky...but at that time they're tough. You can also bought this at Fynn after you defeat Gotoos in the Castle Fynn. It cost 5000 gil. Blood Sword There're no attack stats on this one. There're only 2 Blood swords in this game, you get one in the Castle Fynn's basement, and another one at Pavel's room. It absorbs the damage you do and add it to your HP, much like the undeads. However, using it on the undeads gives the opposite effects, so careful on it. They don't do too much damage usually, so I myself sell them for gils. You get 4000 gil for it. Note: Blood Sword sometimes deal insane amount of damage. This is because of it's HP-absorbing ability. You'll notice this when Spectre can deal about 300 damage to you, even though their attack stat is only a quarter of Hill Gigas. Terra Sword Attack: 52 Accuracy: 58% You get this in the Levithan. Well, by the time you get this you'll going to get a better one at the Mysidia tower, so you wont get to use it for long. Flame Sword Attack: 63 Accuracy: 60% You get this in the third floor of the Mysidia tower. Do extra damage to monsters that are weak to fire, particularly undead and ice monsters. Ice Brand Attack: 72 Accuracy: 62% You get this in the fifth floor of the Mysidia tower. Do extra damage to monsters that are weak to ice, like fire monsters. Defender Attack: 78 Accuracy: 64% You get this in the Cyclone. It'll last you through Paramecia until you get the next one. Sunblade Attack: 83 Accuracy: 65% You get this in the Paramecia, somewhere high up. It deals extra damage to undeads. Excalibur Attack: 100 Accuracy: 75% You get this by talking to the mother in Deist Castle after meeting Leon and the Emperor in Paramecia. Use the keyword "Dragoon" to get it. It last you through the Jade Passage until you get the ultimate one. Masamune Attack: 150 Accuracy: 90% You get this in a secret room at the fifth floor of the Pandaemonium. Awesome damage especially on the final boss. The strongest weapon you get in the whole game. Mace type ********* Mace are balanced weapons. They don't deal crazy damage, but they have good accuracy and they're a good choice for a second weapon too. I usually let my mages use them, because staffs are count as maces too. Staff Attack: 4 Accuracy: 70% Can be bought in Altair. Cost 250 gil. Mace Attack: 9 Accuracy: 60% Can be bought in most shops but not Altair. Cost 400 gil. Mythril Mace Attack: 16 Accuracy: 60% Can be bought in Altair after you give Tobul the mythril. Cost 1500 gil. You'll also get this in the Snow Cavern. Werebane Attack: 28 Accuracy: 62% You get this in the Kas'ion. Also get this at Castle Fynn, but at that time it is outdated. Do extra damage against were beasts, like wererats and werepathers. Mage's Staff Attack: 40 Accuracy: 64% You get this in the Deist Cavern (have to "fight" a few Screamers). Also get this in Paramecia, but again by that time it is outdated. Do extra damage to monsters that are weak to bolt, like Bombs. Power Staff Attack: 53 Accuracy: 66% Can be bought in Mysidia for 15000 gil. Also get this in Mysidia Cavern. Spellbinder Attack: 64 Accuracy: 68% You get this in the sixth floor of the Mysidia tower. Deal extra damage to monsters that are weak to poisons, like the Thunder Gigas that you'll be facing shortly after you get this. Healing Staff Attack: 0 Accuracy: 70% This thing heals whatever it hits. You get this in Paramecia. If you have a dedicated mace user (without a second weapon), you can use it to attack your own character so you heal them. Using it on undead damages them too, but not too much. I once saw green dragon drops this, so if you're lucky enough to get it, I consider sell it for gil. Diamond Mace Attack: 90 Accuracy: 75% Strongest mace you'll get. In a chest in the first floor of the Jade Passage. It deals nice damage against most enemies. Axe type ******** Axe shines at the start until the Deist Cave, where the Mithril axe is too weak against Hill Gigas there, but it redeems itself when you got the Orge Axe from Mysidia (at a price through), where it deal some nice extra damage to any orges and gigas. Axe really shines at the end of the game, where the most powerful axe has enough power to compete with the Excalibur sword, which is consider the second best weapon in the game. I personally don't use axe at the beginning, because axe doesn't have the accuracy of swords and daggers, and they tend to be the most expensive weapons. Axe Attack: 10 Accuracy: 55% Gus start with this. You can buy it at Gatrea for 500 gil. Battle Axe Attack: 15 Accuracy: 45% You can buy this in Poft and Paloom for 800 gil. You'll also get this in the Snow Cavern. Deadringers in there drop this too sometimes. Mithril Axe Attack: 22 Accuracy: 45% You can buy this at Paloom once you give Tobul the mythril. It cost 2000 gil. If you have an axe user, this will probably be the axe you use most, unless you have the gil to buy the next one. Also get this in Kas'ion. Demon Axe Attack: 27 Accuracy: 45% You can buy this in the village at the second floor of the Black Mask Cave. It cost 10000 gil through. When you finally get the boat, you can either keep using the Mithril Axe, or take some time to go through the cave and buy this. Orgekiller Attack: 58 Accuracy: 50% A really powerful axe at that time, it deals extra damage to orges and gigas, and there're 3 giga bosses waiting not long after, so it's a very useful weapon. It cost 15000 gil, but it shouldn't be too expensive at that time. You'll also get this in Mysidia Cavern. Venom Axe Attack: 76 Accuracy: 55% You get this in the Cyclone, after you got the Ripper. It poisons any enemy that are hitted by it. It last you through Cyclone and Paramecia. Some enemies like Royal Knight in Paramecia may drop this. Rune Axe Attack: 95 Accuracy: 60% You get this in the Jade Passage (have to fight a King Bahemoth). Generals drop this sometimes, so if you got it from them (they're in Paramecia), consider yourself really lucky. It deals extra damage to anything who can cast magic (almost every enemy can at that time). Spear type ********** Spears doesn't shines at first because they don't do too much damage and accuracy is not that good either. They start to earn attention in mid-game, where they do good damage against the Hill Gigas in the dreadnought (better than anything you found in dreadnought). The most powerful spear, Holy Lance, can really do damage against even the final boss (not as much as Rune Axe and Masamune through...) Javelin Attack: 6 Accuracy: 65% You can buy this at Altair for 250 gil. Spear Attack: 11 Accuracy: 55% You can get this at Paloom and Poft for 500 gil. Mythril Spear Attack: 18 Accuracy: 55% You can buy this after you give Tobul the mythril. It cost 1500 gil. You'll also get this in the Snow Cavern. Trident Attack: 30 Accuracy: 57% You get this in the dreadnought, right before you meet the first Hill Gigas. This is the only weapon that can damage it probably, before you get the Wing Sword. You can also buy this in Fynn after defeated Gotoos for 5000 gil. Demon Spear Attack: 42 Accuracy: 60% You can buy this in the village at the second floor of the Black Mask Cave. The Trident is strong enough through, so I think that going through all the trouble to buy a slightly stronger one is a waste of time and gil, as it cost 10000 gil. I personally have no problem in using trident to fought through Deist Cavern. Flame Lance Attack: 54 Accuracy: 62% You can buy this in Mysidia for 15000 gil. It deals extra damage against monsters that are weak to fire, like the undeads and ice monsters. You'll also get this in Mysidia Cavern and Mysidia Tower. Ice Lance Attack: 66 Accuracy: 65% You get this in Mysidia tower. It deals extra damage against monsters that are weak to ice, like fire monsters. It'll last you through Cyclone and Paramecia until you get the next one. Thunder Spear Attack: 78 Accuracy: 67% You get this in Paramecia. It deals extra damage to monsters that are weak to bolt, like Bombs and sea monsters. Death Rider in Pandaemonium drops this, but at that time it's quite useless. Holy Lance Attack: 90 Accuracy: 70% You get this in Jade Passage along with 2 other chest. It deals damage that are comparable to Rune Axe. I once saw a Blue Dragon drops this, so you may get it twice. Bow type ******** I sometimes use bows because they're not too expensive. The fact remains that they're not too powerful compare to axes and swords. This is the only weapon that can hit enemies from the back row, so usually it's being used by mages. Even the strongest bow cannot damage the final boss much, but they're strong against normal enemies and even some bosses. You don't get too many choice of bows either. Bow Attack: 1 Accuracy: 50% This is probably the weakest weapon in the game. It cannot even 1 hit a goblin. Maria starts with this. You can buy this at Altair for 150 gil (although I cant imagine who will buy it :) ) Longbow Attack: 5 Accuracy: 40% You can buy this at Poft and Paloom for 250 gil. Deadringers drop this too. Mythril Bow Attack: 13 Accuracy: 40% You can buy this afer you give Tobul the mythirl. It cost 1000 gil. You'll be using this quite a while if you have a bow user, because you'll have to use it until you get to Deist Cavern. Shade Bow Attack: 25 Accuracy: 0% You got this in the dreadnought. It blinds the hitted enemy, but it'll be really hard to even damage enemies with it, because it hardly ever hits. I sell it the first opportunity I got for hard earned gils. You get 2500 gil for selling it. Flame Bow Attack: 42 Accuracy: 47% You first found it at the lowest floor of the Deist Cavern. At that time, it's one of the 2 weapons that can really HURT the hill gigas. It also deal extra damage to monsters that are weak to fire, like undeads and ice monsters. You can also buy it after you defeat the Gotoo in the Castle Fynn for 5000 gil. Some monsters drop this, like Lamia Queen and Captains. You also get this in Mysidia Tower. Ice Bow Attack: 56 Accuracy: 50% You can buy this in Mysidia for 5000 gil. You'll also find it in Mysidia Cavern. It deals extra damage against monsters that are weak to ice, like fire monsters. It lasts you a long time until the Jade Passage. Yoichi's Bow Attack: 90 Accuracy: 75% You get this in the Jade Passage (after fighting a Red Dragon). It don't deal crazy damage, but still enough to hurt most of the enemies in the Pandaemonium. Shield ****** Shield is not a weapon, it's just something that can protect you from attacks. Sometimes they even block an attack. I personally think that shield is useless, so I never use them. Some shield do protect you against some type of magic, while others just for show off when successfully block an attack. They don't give you extra defence, but they do cause the enemies to deal slightly less hits to you. If you want to use shields, make sure only one character use it though, because shields at the end of the game is unique, and you wont get them twice (if you did, consider yourself really lucky) Buckler Block: 1 Rate: 4% Firion start with this. They can block some of the hornets poisonous attacks. You can buy it at Altair for 50 gil. Bronze Shield Block: 2 Rate: 5% A little better than buckler. Cost 200 gil and get them from Salamand. Mythril Shield Block: 3 Rate: 6% You can buy this after giving Tobul the mythirl. Cost 1000 gil. Gold Shield Block: 4 Rate: 7% You get this in the Kas'ion. Give protection against poison attacks. Can also buy in Fynn after defeat Gotoos in Castle Fynn for 2500 gil. Ice Shield Block: 4 Rate: 7% You get this in the Mysidia Cavern. You can also buy it at Mysidia for 5000 gil. Protect against ice attacks. Flame Shield Block: 4 Rate: 7% You get this in Castle Fynn. It protect against fire attacks. Diamond Shield Block: 5 Rate: 9% You get this in the levithon. It protects against bolt attacks. Dragon Shield Block: 5 Rate: 9% You may get this from the dragons. It gives protection against elemental attacks. Aegis Shield Block: 6 Rate: 10% The best shield in the game. You get this in the Jade Passage. It protects against special attacks. 4. Armors As for armors, they're easy to organize, but some of them are special in their ways. There're 3 types of armors to wear, that's is helmet, body armor, and gloves. The best set of armors here are the Genji gear, but you'll only found them in Pandaemonium. Notes that all armors has a weight (the stats didn't show them), and wearing heavy armor helps you increase Strength. You'll want a light armor for black mages though, because you don't want them to get Strength and lowers their Intelligence. Helmet type *********** Leather Cap Defence: 1 Weight: 2 All 3 characters start with this. Can be bought at Altair for 50 gil. Bronze Helm Defence: 2 Weight: 5 Can be bought for 200 gil in Bafsk and Salamand. Mythril Helm Defence: 4 Weight: 5 You can buy this after giving Tobul the mythril. It cost 300 gil. Titan's Helm Defence: 6 Weight: 13 You first get this in the dreadnought. You can buy this at Fynn after defeat Gotoo in castle Fynn for 600 gil. It adds 10 Strength to the user. Ribbon Defence: 10 Weight: 0 The only place you'll ever get this is the Pandaemonium (after fighting Astaroth), but Lamia Queen drops this sometimes, so you may get them much earlier. It protects against special attacks and elemental magics, and it's the ideal armor for a mage. It doesn't give much defence though. Gold Hairpin Defence: 11 Weight: 2 Some monsters drops this, and you pick them up at a few places. It protects against bolt attacks. Headband Defence: 12 Weight: 2 You get this in the leviathan. It's a nice helmet that it adds 10 Strength to the user. You'll be using this a long time (I let my fighter use it until the end of the game). Flame Helm Defence: 13 Weight: 14 You get this in Mysidia Tower. It protects against ice attacks. Diamond Helm Defence: 17 Weight: 18 You get this in the Cyclone. It give protection against bolt attacks. You'll get them from some tough enemies in Paramecia. Genji Helm Defence: 30 Weight: 31 The best helm in the game. You'll found it in the Pandaemonium (after defeating Tiamat). Body Armor type *************** Shirt Defence: 1 Weight: 5 Maria start with this. Immediately change it for a Leather Armor. It's the worst armor in the game. Can also be bought in Altair for 20 gil. Leather Armor Defence: 2 Weight: 6 Firion and Gus start with this. Can be bought at Gatrea for 200 gil. Copper Plate Defence 5 Weight: 5 Can be bought in Paloom and Poft. Cost 400 gil. Bronze Mail Defence: 5 Weight: 14 Same as Copper Plate but much heavier. Cost 500 gil in Salamand. Silver Plate Defence: 10 Weight: 5 Can be bought in Bafsk. Cost 600 gil. Mythril Mail Defence: 10 Weight: 14 Same as Silver Plate but much heavier. Can be bought at Altair after giving Tobul the mythril. Cost 1000 gil. Ruby Plate Defence: 15 Weight: 5 Can be bought in the village at the second floor of the Black Mask Cave. Cost 800 gil. Golden Mail Defence: 15 Weigth: 19 Same as Ruby Plate only much heavier. You first get this in Kas'ion (have to fight a few Mines first). Gives protection against poison attacks. Can be bought at Fynn after defeat Gotoos in Castle Fynn. Cost 2500 gil. Golden Plate Defence: 22 Weight: 5 Cost 1000 gil in Fynn. You can buy it the same time as Golden Mail. Knight's Armor Defence: 22 Weight: 26 Cost 5000 gil in Mysidia. Same as Golden Plate but much heavier. You first get this at Deist Cavern. Power Sash Defence: 25 Weight: 5 You get this in the leviathan. Add 10 Strength to the user. Flame Mail Defence: 29 Weight: 33 You get this in the Mysidia Tower. Gives protection against fire attacks. White Robe Defence: 30 Weight: 5 This is an armor specially for white mages because it adds 10 spirit to the user. You get this at Mysidia Tower. Black Robe Defence: 35 Weight: 19 This is an armor specially for black mages because it adds 10 intelligence to the user. You get this at Mysidia Tower (have to fight a White Dragon). Ice Mail Defence: 36 Weight: 40 You get this in Mysidia Tower. Protects against ice attacks. Ninja Suit Defence: 40 Weight: 0 You get this in Mysidia Cavern and Pavel's house. Adds 10 Agility to the user. Nice armor for mages as it gives agility, enabling them to acts first. Diamond Mail Defence: 43 Weight: 47 You get this in the Cyclone. Gives protection against bolt attacks. Diamond Plate Defence: 43 Weight: 5 A lighter version of Diamond Mail. A prefered armor for mages. Dragon Mail Defence: 50 Weight: 54 You get this in the Jade Passage. Generals and Red Dragons drops this sometimes, so you may get them earlier. It gives protection against all elemental attacks (fire, bolt, ice, poison). Genji Armor Defence: 75 Weight: 79 Most powerful armor. You get this in Pandaemonium (after fighting Beelzebub). Gloves type *********** Leather Gloves Defence: 1 Weight: 3 All character starts with this. Cost 80 gil in Altair. Bronze Gloves Defence: 3 Weight: 8 Can be bought in Bafsk and Salamand. Cost 300 gil. Mythril Gloves Defence: 6 Weight: 8 Can be bought in Altair after giving Tobul the mythril. Cost 800 gil. Thief's Gloves Defence: 15 Weight: 3 A light-weight gloves. Add 10 Agility to the user. You first get this in the Dreadnought. You'll be able to buy it for 1000 gil in Mysidia. Titan's Gloves Defence: 15 Weight: 17 You first get this in Castle Fynn. You can buy this in Mysidia for 2000 gil. Adds 10 strength to the user. Protect Ring Defence: 18 Weight: 3 You get this in Jade Passage, but Lamia Queen drop this sometimes, so you may get it much earlier. It gives protection against instant-kill attacks and spells, like Doom, Warp, and Banish. Croeul also can instant KO you with a special attack, so this is an important armor to have for weaker characters. Power Armlet Defence: 19 Weight: 3 You get this in the leviathan. Adds 10 strength to the user. You'll be using this a long time. Ice Gloves Defence: 20 Weight: 22 You get this in Mysidia Tower. Resist against fire attacks. Diamond Gloves Defence: 25 Weight: 27 You get this in Cyclone. Generals also drops this, so does some other enemies. Gives protection against bolt attacks. Genji Gloves Defence: 45 Weight: 47 The most powerful gloves. You get this in Pandaemonium (after fighting Zombie Borghan). 5. Status Effects Now I'll tell you how many status effects are there in this game. Some of them are temporary, and will wear out after battle, some of them remains until you cure them. Temporary status effects ************************ Basuna spell level 6 can cure all of this effects, except Slow. Poison You'll see lots of green dots identifying it. The victim will take a little damage every round. Mostly it'll last until you end the battle, but some weaker version will only last a few rounds. Can be cured easily. Stun Also known as Paralysis, it'll stun the victim for several rounds, unable to act. A powerful stun that's at level 16 will stun a character for a long time, but mostly they'll recover quickly. You'll see a orange wave line identifying it. Sleep Same as stun, except that it's harder to be infected and cured easier, but once you're hited, you cant recover by yourself quickly. Spectre loves to use this (Sleep level 6) and Succubus sometimes use it too (Sleep level 16). It obvious when someone is asleep, because you'll see some Zs showing it. Silence Your character cannot cast spells for several rounds. Few enemies use it though, so don't worry about it too much. You'll see 3 dots telling you that it is silenced. Mini Your character will become very small, and his attacks become very lousy. I only see Ghosts using it though (mini level 7), and Great Malboro will mini a character with attacks, so don't worry about it too much if your character is strong enough. Mostly they'll recover after a few rounds. Muddle Some enemies using it as Entice. You'll see a blue circle telling you a character is muddled. This is perhaps the most dangerous status effect in the game. It'll make your character attack your own members and even itselfs. If it's a mage, it wont be a problem, since mage's attacks are not very strong, but if it hit your fighter, you're in trouble. It's also the hardest status to cure, with Basuna level 6 or a Unicorn Horn item. Fortunately, it doesn't stay longer than a few rounds. Imps and a few other enemies use this, and some enemies will muddle a character with attacks. Lamia and Lamia Queen use Entice, so does Vampireete and Succubus. Slow Slow is an aura type spell. It'll make your character attacks with much less hits, and even miss attacks. Basuna cannot cure this because it's an aura, not a status effect. Fortunately, with Haste spells, you can counter-act the effects with ease. Very few enemies use it though, like Gazer and the Final Boss itself. Permanent status effects ************************ Esuna level 6 can cure all this effects in and out of battle. Poison Same as the temporary one, except that it remains after battle. Each step you took will make your character lose 1 HP. You'll see a green spot identifying it. Blind Make your character miss attacks more easily. Can be cured very easily. A black spectacle will show up. Curse Your attacks do much less damage, and you take more damage. Some enemies use this, so be careful. Esuna level 2 can cure this. You'll see a black ribbon telling you about it. Amnesia A different black ribbon tell you that a character has been hit by Amnesia. It's like a permenant silence. You cannot cast spells until you're cured. Some enemies use this by casting Fog spell (usually level 6), while Lifesucker can amnesia target with attacks. Toad A very bad status. You'll see your character becomes a frog. It cannot cast spells and attacks are extremely lousy. I so far only saw Deathmasks cast it (Toad level 10), and by that time your magic defence will be strong enough, so don't worry about it too much. Stone Your character will become a REAL status. Much like permenant stun, but if you're hited, you're as good as dead, unless you have Esuna level 6 or a Gold Needle to "revive" it. If all your character become stone, it's game over, so be very careful. Spectre cast Break level 6 to stone you, and Cockatrice can stone you with attacks. Wizards also cast Break too sometimes. 6. Magics Well, it took me a long time to research spells, test their effects, and seperate them. They're 2 types of spells, White (spirit) and Black (intelligence). Notice that you can pick any weapons you want at the beginning, the one I use here is just one of a combination of my own choice. There're hundreds of ways to tune your characters, so explore on your own. Lets begin!!!! 7. Walkthrough You start by giving your characters a new name. They already have a default name, so if you don't want to change, you can just press start. I'll use their original name here to avoid confusion. You can watch the scene if you like. After that you'll see your characters running away from some Black Knight. They're surrounded. You'll go into a fight with them. You cant win this battle, so just let them die and the game continues. You'll be revived in the Altair. You met the other 2, but Leon is missing. So the characters go to ask the princess in charge. She say that this is the temporary headquarter of Fynn, as Fynn is now controlled by empire. She advise them to go back to Fynn to search for him. Firion's stat +++++++++++++ Right-Handed HP: 30 MP: 5 Attack: 10 Accuracy: 1-70% Defence: 2 Evasion: 1-14% Magic Defence: 1-22% Strength: 10 Endurance: 10 Spirit: 10 Agility: 10 Intelligence: 10 Magic: 5 Level 1 in all weapon skills. Right Hand: Broadsword Left Hand: Buckler Head: - Body: Leather Armor Hand: - Maria's stat ++++++++++++ Right-Handed HP: 20 MP: 5 Attack: 3 Accuracy: 1-55% Defence: 1 Evasion: 1-10% Magic Defence: 1-20% Strength: 5 Endurance: 5 Spirit: 10 Agility: 15 Intelligence: 15 Magic: 5 Level 1 in all weapon skills. Right Hand: Bow Left Hand: - Head: - Body: Shirt Hand: - Gus's stat ++++++++++ Right Handed HP: 40 MP: 5 Attack: 17 Accuracy: 1-70% Defence: 2 Evasion: 1-0% Magic Defence: 1-25% Strength: 15 Endurance: 15 Spirit: 10 Agility: 5 Intelligence: 10 Magic: 5 Level 1 in all weapon skills. Right Hand: Axe Left hand: - Head: - Body: Leather Armor Hand: - You can control them after a talk with the princess Hilda. Talk to her again and memorise "Wild Rose". Now go out. Get the Potion at the left of the hall and go out. You'll notice that you're in a town. Go to the weapon shop. Now it's the time to decide what weapons to use on them. All 3 of them come with their default weapon, but you can switch to a different one because they haven't start leveling their weapon level yet. Maria has the talent in black magic, because of her high Intelligence, so she will be the black mage. Gus will become the fighter because he has the extra Strength and Endurance. Firion can play any role, but I make him a white mage, because nobody else is more suitable than him. As for weapons it's really your own choice but I give you an example anyway. Firion use swords and maces. Maria use bows. Gus use spears and daggers. Note: I'll be using this combination to write this walkthrough. So if you use a different approach, don't follow my advice on weapons and weapon purchases. Armors is ok though. This is one of my favorite combination. The problem is, you have only 400 gil for a start. So sell the Axe and Buckler to add up your money to 675 gil. Then sell that potion you get earlier (yes, SELL it). You'll now have 700 gil, just enough for the weapons you need. Buy a Javelin and a Knife for Gus, and buy a Staff for Firion. So the equipment is like this: Firion: Right Hand: Broadsword Left hand: Staff Maria: Right Hand: Bow Left hand: - Gus: Right Hand: Javelin Left Hand: Knife You won't have any gils left after this, but don't worry, because you'll earn them back. Now go out to the world. Let Maria fight at the front line, although she's using a bow, to let her take damage and increase her Max HP. Fight for a while near Altair until you got 200 gil. Go back in and buy a Cure spell. Give it to Firion. Use the spell as much as possible to cure HP instead of Potions. When you're out of mana or seriously hurted, go back to the town and use the Inn. TRY NOT TO USE ANY POTION YOU GOT WHEN LEVELLING. This is important to save gils. When you got the Cure spell, it's time to get start with the plot. Go west until you see another small town called Gatrea. To the north is where you need to go, but it's blocked by a pool. So you'll need to go around the pool, fighting more enemies. When you reach the town, enter it. Fynn is taken by the empire. DON'T talk to the soldiers, this will only make them fight you, and you'll never win a Black Knight for now. Instead, go north and right to go outside the wall, then go down (don't go too far from the wall or you'll go out to the world). You'll see a pub down there. Go in. More soldiers are there drinking. Go to the counter and talk to the boss. Ask him "wild rose" and he'll say he is hiding a soldier from Fynn. Go in the secret door at the right. You'll see a soldier lying there. Get the 3 boxes containing Potions, then talk to him. He reveals that he's Scoot, a prince who everybody thought is dead. He'll give you a Ring that can view the world map, and he dies after that. Get out and go back to Altair. Show Princess Hilda the Ring and she thought that you have more courage than she thought, so she give you a mission. You'll need to bring back the rare metal called Mythril to fought more powerful weapons, because all soldiers at the Empire have them. Talk to Mindu and he'll join you temporary to aid you, along with giving you his Canoe to enable you cross rivers and lakes. Mindu's stat ++++++++++++ Right Handed HP: 175 MP: 103 Attack: 9 Accuracy: 1-80% Defence: 5 Evasion: 1-17% Magic Defence: 2-50% Strength: 10 Endurance: 20 Spirit: 48 Agility: 20 Intelligence: 16 Magic: 40 Level 1 in all weapon skills. Right hand: Staff Left hand: - Head: - Body: Copper Plate Hand: - Carrying Ether and Magniconch. Mindu is, obviously, a POWERFUL white mage. He has almost every white magic learned, except Holy (shame). While you may think that having him makes your battle easier, the advantages comes at a big price. Mindu has a lot of MP, but that also means that it cost A LOT to recover from an Inn if it run out. All of his spell is high leveled, especially Cure and Basuna, but that also means that the spells cost a lot of mana. So the solution is, DON'T USE THEM. Use Mindu to attack instead. Save his MP for the boss fights. After Mindu joins the party, go out and go to the spell store. You should have at least 400 gil now, but if not, go out and fight for a while. Give Mindu's Copper Plate to Gus and give the Leather one to Mindu, because Mindu has too much HP to die easily. Buy an Ice spell for Maria and train it from now. There's a boss in the near future that need powerful ice spells to be killed. Now is the time to boost up the defence of your characters. Buy 3 Leather Cap and 3 Leather Gloves for your 3 characters. Don't buy Mindu anything. If you have extra money, buy some Potions. Go out and go north, canoe through the big pool. You'll arvive at another town call Paloom. There's some important spells here, but you don't have the money for now. Instead, continue go up. Go right from above the town and go up to a large forest. There's some new enemies here, including Queen Bee and Bloodsucker, which can poison you permenantly. Bring a few Antidote just incase. This is a nice place to train and build up gils so you can buy the spells later. Only after you buy the spells then you can buy some nice armors for your mages, but that takes quite a while to get that much money. The important thing is to save up about 1200 gil, then go in the spell store and buy Shield, Shell and Blink for Firion. Start leveling them from now, they're the essential spell for a white mage. After that save up a little again and buy a Copper Plate for Maria. After you got them, go north and then right to come to yet another town called Poft. Actually you can ride a ship from Paloom to Poft, and it cost a mere 32 gil, but I personally recommend you to walk there, so you'll be able to save up some money as you go. Poft is the same as Paloom, except that this town has airship service. The airship can go 4 place: Bafsk, Salamand, Semitt Falls, and Kas'ion. Bafsk is just east of Poft, so it's not necessary to ride the airship, but the town is controlled by the Dark Knight. Salamand is another town, but the spells there are REALLY costly for now. Semitt Falls is where you need to go to get the mythril, and Kas'ion is a sealed castle, having really tough monsters. Airship isn't cheap though, so I advise you to walk to Salamand for the moment, as using the airship cost you 200 gil. The forest around Salamand has some new enemies though, like Soldiers. They're hard to beat with your current weapons, but have everybody attack the same target and it's not that hard. Go in to Salamand. There're some VERY important spells to buy, like Life and Warp, but you probably cannot afford them at the moment, as each of them cost 1500 gil. However, you'll need to save up 500 gils and buy Bronze Mail for Gus, give the Gus's Copper Plate to Firion. Now go to the house to the northeast of the town (there's a girl standing in front of it). Talk to the man inside. He's Josef, an agent who is undercovered to search for mythril. Ask "Mythril". He wont say much though, unless you saved his daughter and other residents caught there first. Buy more Potions, as where you'll go next is quite tough. Now get out and start to walk west until you reach the sea. Go down and canoe along the river. You'll soon found the Semitt Fall. Save first before going in. Semitt Falls ========= Caution: What you need to remember is that you need to SAVE your MP for the boss inside. Don't use magic for normal enemies, except Cure. If you meet Green Slime, cast Ice on ALL of them at once, and they'll be killed. Start by follow the road until you come to a junction. Ignore the blue orb and keep going. Go up at the next one and get the 10 gil inside a chest (damn). Go back and start going south. Ignore the first junction and continue going down. Go right at the second one and get the chest holding 200 gil. Go back and follow the road to the left and go down the stairs. You come to B2. Keep follow the road to the north until you come to a chest holding Eye Drop. Go back and now go right and then up to another chest. This one got Potion. Now go down to the bottom and go right. You'll see yet another chest here. This holds another Potion. Go up from there and you'll see several doors. Use the leftmost one.
Another note: From here, you'll start to learn about empty rooms. They're there to trick you, making you think that there's treasure inside. Almost all dungeons and castles have them. You cant make the differences between the empty rooms and treasure rooms until you actually enter them. Empty rooms have MUCH more battles inside, but they're really good training grounds (at least for me). When you're bored training in the forest containing lame goblins, get yourself inside an empty room. You're at B3 now. Go straight down to an open space with a chest in the middle. Now you must think that this is a great treasure, until you open it. It contains 1 gil (April Fool !!!). Go back and go left. Go down when you can. Get 50 gil from another chest and go back up. Go left again and follow the road until you reach some more doors. Use the leftmost one. All the residents here are trapped here as slaves for mining the mythril. Talk to the thief, Pavel, the one you see aroung Altair earlier. He'll guide the residents to escape, while you distract the guards. They leave after that. The stairs is at the right side of the room. At B4, go left and go up through the bridge. Get the Fire scroll there, use it on Maria, and go back down. Go right and up. Keep going up and to the right, then follow the road to the stairs. B5 here. Go left through then go up and follow the road to the chest. It contains a Warp scroll, but you'll have to fight a Spiketoise. It hits over 100 damage, so be very careful. Have Maria cast Ice, as this is it's weakness, Firion cast Cure on the damaged one, and the rest keep attacking. You wont do much damage by attacking, but by doing this you're actually leveling your weapon skill. It'll die after being hited by Ice twice usually, so mostly this'll only last 2 rounds. Don't let Maria die is the key here. After you successfully killed it, give the Warp scroll to Firion, and go back down. Go back through the bridge and go up. There's 2 doors here. Use the left one. You have found the Mythril, but unfortunately you'll have to kill it's guardian, and this is your first boss. USE THE MEMO before you talk to him. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Sergeant HP: 140 MP: 10 Attack: 35 Accuracy: 70% Defence: 25 Evasion: 30% Magic Defence: 3 Magic Resistance: 50% He's a tough piece of sushi at this stage. He hits over 100 damage mostly, and it has Arrow 3, which can damage a character for about 50 damage. The worst of all, he has no weakness. The trick is: Have Mindu cast Shield on everyone at once. Don't use Shield on 1 character, because I want all character to have protection. Moreover, using it on 1 member only make that member receive very little damage, which is not good because I want everyone to receive some damage to improve themselves. Same as old one says: Overprotecting someone and he'll never learn. After casting shield, have Maria keep casting Fire or Ice at him, Firion curing the damaged one, and the rest keep attacking, hoping for some critical damage. Spells deals about 10-30 to him, but normal attacks wont hurt him much (unless they criticals). When Maria and Firion are out of mana, have everybody keep attacking him. He wont be able to 1-hit you when you have shield level 5 from Mindu, so spam him with attacks. If someone dies, have Mindu revive it, but don't cure him, because you usually wont be fast enough to prevent Sergeant from kill him again, and wasted mana. Instead, have the wounded itself use Potions. If all 4 characters is hurted, have Mindu curing EVERONE at once. Cure level 7 can heal about 100 damage when use on all members, and that's pretty much your max HP. I win this battle last time without using Mindu's spells at all, so it's not that hard once you're mastered the tactics, but to achieve this you'll need BOTH Firion and Maria to have at least 15 MP. If you only have 5 MP, then this is a hard battle. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Sergeants drops mythril gears sometimes, so if you get them just now, you should celebrate a little, since they're expensive. Get the Mythril from the chest and use Warp to get out of here (use Firion's or Mindu's). Out of Semitt Fall ````````````````````````````` Mostly your characters is quite wounded now. Go back to Salamand to use the Inn, and talk to Josef. He's very grateful of you to save his daughter, and he'll be more willing to help you now, but since you don't have the keyword to get his help yet, you cant do much. Now you should have more than 2000 gil. Buy a Life spell and give it to Firion. Don't buy anything else here, because you'll be able to buy a new set of things, and they're costly. You should go back to Altair and give the Mythril to Tobul in the weapon store, but if you want to save more gil to afford the mithril gears, go back in the Semitt Fall and get in an empty room. Save up about 3000 gil and warp out. You'll be able to see another new seller beside the old one in weapon shop and armor shop in Altair after giving Tobul the mythril. They sell mythril things. Buy a Mythril sword for Firion, a Mythril knife for Gus, and 3 Mythril Helms for the 3 members. Don't bother giving Mindu new things, because he won't stay in your party for long. Buy Bolt spell for Maria and Gus, and buy Gus Cure and Fire but nothing else, because Gus is a fighter, and I only want him to gain access to basic spells. Make sure you left 1000 gil in your pocket, if not, you'll need to save up again, but saving up 1000 gil wont need a long time if you do it near Paloom. Talk to Princess Hilda and you'll learn the word "Dreadnought". Ask her about it and you'll learn the word "Airship". She says Cid is expert in airships, and he has one. Cid is the guy you meet in Poft. Keep this in mind. You learned that the Dark Knight is being called back from Bafsk, and left Borghan in charge to watch the construction of the dreadnought. Hilda wants you to go to Bafsk to delay the construction. She also says there's a spy there to help you. OK, now go to Bafsk, but stop at Paloom to buy a Mythril Bow for Maria (that's why you need 1000 gil). When you reach Bafsk, you'll see Borghan is standing there instead of Dark Knight. If you have 800 gil now (you should when fighting your way here), buy Esuna for Firion, another important spell. This spell keeps you from stocking Antidotes and Eye Drops. Basuna is an optional spell, but if you got it, you got another advantage. It's tricky to level up them, because your character don't get poisoned every battle. So I tell you a trick to level up these spells: you use them when battle, but press O to undo your action. You didn't cast them, but you already get experience for the spell. This tactic works on every spells, but using it too much in 1 battle on the same spell is consider cheating (at least for me). Use only once every battle for spells you want to level, unless you really want to use them. Go down and talk to the soldier hiding there. He reveal that he's a spy for Fynn, and he cant tell you much when the Dark Knight is here, but now Dark Knight isn't watching them, he opened a secret passageway that leads to the dreadnought. Go down the secret hole. Bafsk's secret passageway ====================== Follow the road until you see a chest containing a Long Sword. Keep going east and up and go down when you reach a junction, getting a Longbow on the way, and follow the road to B2. Go right until the end, ignoring the junction. Keep going up and west, follow the road. Surprisingly, you see Dark Knight standing there. Talk to him and he'll tell you that the dreadnought is already complete. He left with Borghan. Ohno!! Go back in and go right. Get in the room and get the Pass in the chest. If you been talking to the residents in Bafsk before you come here, one of them will tell you that you need the Pass to enter dreadnought. Go right and use the warper to get out. Out of Bafsk's secret passageway ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Because of the dreadnought, Poft, Paloom, Altair and Gatrea is attacked, fortunately the headquarter survives. Go to Poft and get in the pub to talk to Cid. Ask "dreadnought" and he'll say that the dreadnought is nothing compare to his airship. Hehe. Now ask him "airship" and he'll tell you that all airship needs sunfire to run, so does that dreadnought. Memorise "sunfire" and go back to Altair. Now, unequipped everything off Mindu, and talk to Hilda. Mindu decided that he needs to treat the wounded, and he leaves your party. Gordon is missing, and the people here says that he's a coward. Now go into the first room at the right to the king's room. Ask the king "sunfire", and he'll tell you that the sunfire's in Kas'ion, and you need a special torch to hold it, but you need the Goddess Bell to get in, because Scoot seal it in the past. Memorise "goddess bell" and ask Hilda about it. She says that the bell is hidden somewhere in the snow at the north. If you ask Mindu about it too, he says that the Egil's Touch can hold the sunfire, but it's locked away in the castle. Now you need to go all the way back to Salamand. I advise you to walk there so that you saved up some money on the way. Buy Life spell for Gus to use for emergency. If you have extra money, buy a Warp spell for Gus too. Buy as many potions as you can, as the next place is very hard. When you're done, talk to Josef. Ask him "goddess bell" and he'll say you need a snowcraft to cross the snow. He got one hiding in Semitt Fall, and he'll join you to find the bell. Josef's stat +++++++++ Right Handed HP: 235 MP: 5 Attack: 28 Accuracy: 2-99% Defence: 4 Evasion: 1-13% Magic Defence: 2-32% Strength: 24 Endurance: 24 Spirit: 10 Agility: 24 Intelligence: 10 Magic: 10 Bare hand skill at level 2, other skill at level 1 Right hand: - Left hand: - Carrying Garlic and potion Josef is a bare hand fighter. He don't come with spells though, so you may want to give him a Cure scroll. Don't equipped him with any weapons, as he's stronger with bare hands. He only equipped with leather gears, but he should be fine, as he has the HP to withstand damage. You may give him some bronze gears if you feel like it, but don't give him something expensive, as he wont stay with your party for long. You need to go to Semitt Fall. From the entrence, go down and left to the blue orb. Press X on the top of the right wall and Josef will open a secret door there. Go in and get the Snowcraft. Now you can cross snows. Go back out and rest at an Inn if you need to, then, make sure you're well equipped with potions, go to north west of Salamand. You'll come to the snow. Go across the snow and keep going east. Enemies on the snow is tougher, particularly Icicles, but with your mythril weapons you should have no problem. Keep going right until you come to an open space. Find the cave at the center and SAVE before you get in. Snow Cavern =========== Caution: They're a few new enemies here that are tougher than ever before, especially Deadringers, which can hit for over 100 damage, and with paralyze effects to boot. They drop some nice stuffs though, like Battle Axe. As in the Semitt Fall, SAVE YOUR MP. Josef is more than capable of 1-hit most enemies here, so let him do the job and don't use any mana, except Cure. From the entrence, follow the road, up the long stairs, and you'll reach a junction. Go left first, get the 100 gil from the chest, and go back. Go down and you'll see another chest. It got 150 gil. Continue down and then right and use the stairs. B2 here. Nead north and follow the road to the stairs. Go down to B3. You'll notice some chest on this level. We'll get them shortly. You come to B3. Go left first, and follow the road to come to a chest. It contains a Notus, an item that can be use as Ice level 16. Go back to the stairs and go right. Another junctions is here. Go up and use the stairs back to B2. You arrive at the other side of B2. Go down and get the Battle Axe. Go left from there and get an Antidote. Continue and at the end of the road you'll see yet another chest. It contains a Mythril Mace, but you'll have to fight several grenades first. They are weak to both fire and bolt spells, and use Maria and Gus to cast together at once on all of them should kill them. Give the mace to Firion. Go back down to B3, keep going south from there and go left until you reach another stairs. You're at B4. Head north and you'll find 2 chests at either side. The one on the right got an Ice scroll, and the left holding a potion. Give the Ice scroll to Gus. Go right a little and go down the scene. Find the chest there containing Mythril Spear. Fortunately there's no monster inside. Give the spear to Gus. Now go northeast and go down the stairs. On B5 now. Go down a little then go west and find the chest containing Mythril Shield. If one of your character is using shield, this is the best you can get at this moment. Now go back and go southwest. You'll find another chest there. It contains an Ancient Sword, but you'll have to fight a few undeads first. That sword can curse monsters when hited, and that effect wont wear off, but it's accuracy is so bad that it hardly ever hits. Don't equip that thing and just keep it for sale. Now go east and go through the door. There's no enemies inside, and there's some weird animals living here. Go to the one that looks like Chief of them, and talk to it. Gus will take over because he knows the speaking of animals. Now ask "goddess bell", and he'll told you that the bell is inside the right wall. Go to the top spot of the right wall and enter. B6 here. Just follow the road. You'll see the bell, along with it's guardian. Get the Silver Plate and equipped it to Gus. Give his Bronze Mail to Firion and give his Copper one to Josef. Now, equip Notus on anyone, just in case. USE THE MEMO before talking to the boss. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Adamantoise HP: 450 MP: 0 Attack: 50 Accuracy: 75% Defence: 60 Evasion: 0% Magic Defence: 1 Magic Resistance: 50% This boss is not as hard as you may think. Yes, he has REALLY high defence at this stage, but Josef's attack can break it most of the time. Unfortunately, nobody else can. If you have sharp eyes, you may notice that this boss is very similar to Spiketoise. So if you can figure out, he also VERY weak against Ice. Hopefully Maria has trained the Ice to level 2, because that makes the battle easier. Level 2 Ice can deal about 150 damage, and even level 1 can deal about 80 damage. Without Ice, it's very hard to win this battle, but not impossible. Now, you must be already itching to use Notus here. Yes, it can deal almost 400 damage to it, and 1 more ice spell can finish it, but that makes the battle too easy. For a bit of challenge, keep the Notus in your pocket. Now the challenging way: Have Firion use shield on Maria (she's most important here), and curing any hurted members. Maria's job is to keep casting Ice. Gus can either attack or cast Ice too (I personally have Gus attack, because he's a fighter, and I want his weapon level to be high). Josef keep punching it, because his hands can break through his defence better than any weapons you have at this point. You may use Gus to cure too if someone hurted. With Maria casting Ice level 2, the battle wont last longer than 6 rounds, and even shorter if Gus casting too. Another important thing is Shield here, because the boss hits for over 100 damage MOST OF THE TIME, and I doubt you have much more HP than that. Cast Shield on Maria, then Gus, and finally Firion. Josef has enough HP to withstand 3 hits, so he'll be alright if you cure him as soon as he get hited. As you will notice, the boss don't use spells, so he'll be attacking more often than the last boss. Blink is good too if you have it at level 2. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ After you finished the boss, press X on the wall behind the boss and you'll get the Goddess Bell. The wall will open up a shortcut back to B1. Now go back the way you came, but unfortunately you meet Borghan waiting for you at the top of the stairs. Well, he seek a fight, so we give him one, shall we? But before we do, take off everything Josef has, as he will leave your party after the fight. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Borghan HP: 240 MP: 20 Attack: 25 Accuracy: 75% Defence: 17 Evasion: 40% Magic Defence: 3 Magic Resistance: 50% Well, i guess your character is pretty hurted from the last boss. Fortunately, he wont be too hard if you think that Sergeant is hard. His attacks deals about 50 damage, and he wont use spells too. You dont even need to use any spells, and even though Josef has no armor, Borghan can only deal about 80 damage to him at max. Have everyone spam him with attacks, and with Josef hitting him for over 150 damage, the battle will be over before anyone needs curing. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- After Borghan is defeated, he let loose a huge boulder before he dies. They try to outrun it, but it was too fast. Josef block the boulder and give them time to escape, but he dies after that. How sad. Leave the cave and save, then walk back to Salamand to use the Inn. Out of Snow Cavern `````````````````````````````````` Again, stock up on potions, sell any old weapons you dont want, but keep 1 battle axe, because i want the next character to use it, but if you want him to use other weapon, then keep that weapon. I let him use battle axe because the axe is free from fighting the deadringers. When you're ready, walk to Bafsk. You should pretty much knows how to get there on foot. When you reach it, go south from there a little, then go east and a little south at the same time. You're now outside the large mountain ring. Check the map to know where you are by pressing Select and O. You'll see a space that you can get in the ring. Get in and start going south and a little left. You're now outside of the small ring of mountains surrounding the Kas'ion. Go left and you'll reach the castle. Save before getting in, as inside it holds some of the toughest monsters so far. Note: You can also get to Kas'ion using the Airship service in Poft. It cost 400 gil. I personally likes to walk there, as you can gain some skills, train spells, and save up money at the same time. Kas'ion ====== Caution: As always, SAVE YOUR MP. Dont use MP too much. You need them later. Hopefully you have Shell at level 2 or higher, as the boss inside is seriously tough. The enemies here are not too tough at lower level, but once you start to climb, the enemies get harder. Your mythril gears should be enough to last you through this place. Go up and you'll see some flames burning in the center. It's Sunfire, but you cant get hold of it at the moment. Go up to the door and use the Goddess Bell. Go it and you'll meet Gordon. He try to get the Egil's Torch himself, but the monsters here are too tough, so he joins you. Gordon's stat +++++++++++ Right Handed HP: 64 MP: 5 Attack: 28 Accuracy: 1-77% Defence: 8 Evasion: 1-22% Magic Defence: 1-37% Strength: 22 Endurance: 22 Spirit: 22 Agility: 22 Intelligence: 22 Magic: 22 Level 1 in all weapon skills. Right hand: Spear Left hand: Bronze Shield Head: Bronze Helm Body: Bronze Mail Hand: Bronze Gloves Equipped with 2 potions Gordon has a really balanced stats. Unfortunately, his HP is too low at this moment. Make sure to protect him from taking too much damage. He also has no spells, so if you want to give him some basic spells, go ahead. Give the battle axe to Gordon and ditch the useless spear. Continue the road and use the stairs to 1F. Go down and get the Cure scroll in the chest. Give it to Gordon if you want, if not, give it to Maria. Go back and now go left then down to use the stairs. 2F again. Go south until you see the second intersection. Go right and follow the road north. Get the 300 gil in the chest, then go left and follow the road until you can use the stairs. 3F here. Follow the road west and south. Go right to the pillars. Careful here, as from now you'll meet Adamantiose, the last boss, quite often. Use the same strategy, cast Ice and keep attacking. Just dont let Gordon die. Now go south when you can, and go west first. You'll see a chest. It contains a Gold Shield, but you'll have to fight a few Stunners and wererats. You meet wererats a lot already, but Stunner is rare here. Like it's name, it stuns your character with every hit. Careful of that. Give the shield to Gordon. Go back to the pillars and use the second path to the right side. Follow the road until you can use the stairs. You're on 4F. Go west first and go south (or south first, then west, and finally go up a little). You'll see a door, enter it to find 3 chests. They holds Mythril Axe, Mythril Sword, and Werebane. Give the werebane to Firion, it's a nice mace. Give the Mythril axe to Gordon. Get out and go up and then left. Go down after that and you'll see the stairs. 5F here. Go up and use the right path. Continue up and then right. You'll see a chest in the middle of an open space. Go down and get the Golden Mail, but you need to fight off some Mines first. They're much stronger than Grenades, and they can hit for about 100 damage. Use Fire or Bolt to kill them quickly before they explode, dealing 150 damage to someone. Give the Golden Mail to Gus and give his Mythril one to the other character. After that, go right and then up to a door. Enter it and get the 3 chest containing Eye Drop, Mallet and Antidote. Get out and go all the way down and then all the way left until you see stairs. Go down to B4 and enter the room. The Egil's Torch is here, along with it's guardian. USE THE MEMO before talk to it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Shrieker HP: 540 MP: 30 Attack: 35 Accuracy: 80% Defence: 40 Evasion: 60% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistance: 40% This boss is hard at the beginning, when he use spells, but after that it becomes easy. Make sure you have Shell level 2 or higher. At first, it use level 8 spells to bombard all your character, like Fire 8, Bolt 8, Ice 8 and Poison 8. All of them are at level 8, and can hit every member for about 50 damage. Cast Shell on Gordon, as he doesnt have the time to develop magic defence. After that cast it on other members. Have Firion cast Cure on the wounded, and others keep attacking. DON'T cast any spells on it, as elemental spells only heals it. Fortunately, it wont have enough MP to cast more than 4 rounds. After running out of MP, it starts to attack. This is easier than the last stage, so have everybody spam him with attacks. It still can deal about 100 damage, so cast Shield on Gordon to prevent being 1-hited. It's defence is lower than the Adamantoise, so you wont have too much problem in damaging this boss. This is the place to level up your weapon skills. Because it has a lot of HP, you need some time to finish it off. Have everybody keep attacking and some occasional curing. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ After finished off the boss, get the Egil's Torch from the chest and use Warp to get out. Cure the person who use warp, then get back in the castle. Now use the Egil's Torch on the fire and you'll get the Sunfire. Get back out. Out of Kas'ion ```````````````````````` Walk to the bridge and you'll see Cid's airship has been captured by the dreadnought. Ohno. Walk straight down from the bridge and you'll go into a secret place called Chocobo forest. Find the chocobo and talk to it. You'll be able to use it as transport, without random battles. Ride back to Bafsk, from there ride to Poft, then go down back to Paloom. Dismount and cross the lake to Altair. Talk to the residents inside the headquarter. Princess Hilda has come to greet you with Cid in the airship, but being caught. If you talk to everyone, you'll learn that every airship need to dock to get suppies, including the dreadnought. You'll also learned that there's a dock station near the desert. Now, buy Mythril armors for everybody except Gordon at the armor shop (let Gus use his Gold one), sell off any old weapons, stocking up potions, and buy Gordon Fire, Ice and Bolt, as the dreadnought is even harder than Kas'ion. I advise go training for a while at the northwest forest of Fynn. It has enemies like Spiketiose, Warlock, Orges, and other enemies. Train your spells here too. Warlock drops some nice spells, paticularly Berserk, which you can't buy. Give the spell to Maria and start training it. Berserk is a very important spell, and you'll find it useful later. When you feel training enough, go all the way back to Bafsk and then to Chocobo forest. Ride the Chocobo again and go south through the desert. I dont advise you to walk through desert as you're not strong enough yet. After crossing desert continue south and you'll found dreadnought. SAVE before going in. Dreadnought =========== Note: There's no boss inside, but SAVE YOUR MP. There's a monster inside a chest that's extremely powerful, and you'll need every spells you got to beat it. All elemental spells must be at least level 2, but level 3 make things much easier. Shield and Blink are a must and at least level 2 also, but train them to level 3 if you can. Make sure you do all this before you enter dreadnought. If you can, have Esuna level 2 ready. Ghast can cast Blind level 4, and mostly all your character wil get blinded. Werepanther and wererats can poison you. With Esuna level 2, you can cure everyone at once from Blind and Poison after battle, saving MP. From the entrence, Go straight to the soldier. Give him the pass and he'll let you pass. DONT TALK TO ANY SOLDIERS. You're not strong enough to fight Black Knights yet. See the stairs at the middle? Get in and go south a little, at the same line with the chest at the right. Now, go straight to the chest. You'll go through the wall and arrive at the chest. MEMO FILE first before open it. It holds the Crescent, but it'll also unleash some Sergeants and Warlocks. Sergeants are not hard now, but warlocks can seriously hurt you, especially when they cast Berserk on the Sergeants. Kill the warlocks first before targeting the sergeant. Dont use any MP here except Cure. Get back out the same way and go back up. Now, go up that stairs to the north and go left first. get the chest containing 400 gil. Go back and keep going east until you can go no further, then go south. You'll come to another junction. Use the east side of the road, go east then north and go through the door. Down the stairs. Now, follow the road and use the west path. Keep going until you see a chest holding the Shade Bow. Keep it but dont equipped it. It blinds the target, but it's accuracy is extremely bad. Now, go back to the junction and now go east. Follow the road until you see 2 chest to the south. They contains 2 potions. Get them and go all the way back to the junction. Now go south and you'll reach another junction. Go west and get a Thief's Gloves. Give it to Gus. Give Gus's Mythril one to Gordon. Go back and now keep going east until you see Cid and Hilda. Open the door and talk to Cid. He'll get out and get the airship ready, while you seize the chance to destroy the dreadnought by throwing the sunfire into the engine. Get back out and go back to the 1F. Now, go to the junction, go south all the way and west, go down, then all the way east. Go up the stairs. 3F here. Go all the way south, then west, and finally north all the way to the door. Go up the stairs. 4F here. Go south and east but dont go up the stairs yet. Go east and then north to find 4 chest. The leftmost one contains Trident. Give it to Gus. The second from left one contains Main Gauche. Give it to Gus too. The rightmost one contains a Titan Helm. Again, give it to Gus, as he's the fighter. Now, have Firion equipped the Crescent, Maria equipped the Shade Bow, and use MEMO FILE before you open the last one. It's an Ice Shield, but you'll have to fight a REALLY tough enemy. I put a seperate guide here because it's so tough, just like the real bosses. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Hill Gigas HP: 750 MP: 0 Attack: 100 Accuracy: 80% Defence: 60 Evasion: 30% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistance: 40% This thing is perhaps even harder than the next boss you'll have to face. It can 1-hit anyone here, and the worst of all, he has no weakness. Sometimes he comes with a Sergeant or a Warlock or both, so kill them first before facing the gigas. This guy can deal about 300-400 damage, and i doubt anyone who has more than 400 HP here. Now, the very first thing that you should do is let Firion cast Blink on Maria. Let Maria keep casting her strongest spell, no matter it's Fire, Bolt or Ice. Gus keep attacking, and Gordon keep casting anything that can hurt the gigas. Mythril weapons cannot damage him, Trident only a little. Firion keep casting Blink on anyone who doesnt have it, to make Hill Gigas have a chance to miss you with it's attacks. Cast Shield too on Gus and Firion. Now, have Firion keep attacking with the Crescent, when the gigas finally asleep, use the short period to heal any wounded one, cast Shield and Blink on anyone who dont have them. Maria's job is to keep casting spells on gigas, and perhaps cast Berserk on Gus and Firion. When she's out of mana, keep attacking with the Shade Bow, and hope the giga is blinded. When he is, he'll have a harder time to hit you. The important thing is to keep everybody alive. When someone is killed, revive it but dont cure him, as you wont be fast enough. Keeping everybody alive makes the gigas have to choose which one to kill. If you want, have someone as the reviver here. Cure is not important here, as the gigas deal too much damage to be healed by even Cure level 3. With Blink level 3 on, the gigas will have about 50% chance to miss you, and even more if it's blinded. Keep making him asleep as much as possible, so you gain a few more rounds to do the reviving and casting. Hopefully, he'll be killed before you start to give up. Good Luck!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Note: After fighting the Hill Gigas, equip back the Mythril Sword and Mythril Bow. When you FINALLY finish off the gigas, or choose to give up and leave the chest alone, go back down, west and up the stairs to get in the door. Just go through another door here to 5F. Now, this is quite hard. There're soldiers blocking some of the path, so there's only 1 way of getting to the engine room. As long as you dont talk to the soldiers, you wont have to fight them, so lay off that X button. OK, start by going right a little and then go north all the way. Go left until you hit the wall, then go all the way south until you see another soldier to the south. There's a space between the 2 thin wall that you can use to pass the soldier. Head south a little after that, then head east until you see yet another soldier blocking. Head north before the soldier, then go east and go all the way north to the corner. Start to go west until you see yet another soldier blocking. Go down before the soldier until you cannot go anymore, then go right until you can go south. Now go west to the engine room. Reach the engine and use Sunfire. The engine will start to blow up. Dark Knight is very angry, but Maria suddenly realize the voice. It's Leon, Maria's brother. Unfortunately they have no time to prove this, and the dreadnought explodes just after they excaped. Out of Dreadnought ````````````````````````````````` You're in Altair now. Go in and go to the headquarter. Now, if you have something you need now equipped on Gordon, unequipped it, as Gordon will leave your party now. He'll come back later though, so dont need to unequipped him. Go to the king's room. The king's condition has worsened. He has ordered Mindu to go unleashed the Ultima scroll, and want Gordon to take his place. He wants you to go to Deist Island to help the dragons. He dies after this. Gordon leaves your party. Go and recover your HP using the Inn, sell off any old weapons and armors, like the Shade Bow and Crescent, and go to the throne room. Gordon is sitting there. Talk to him and memorise "dragoon". Ask him that and memorise "wind drake". Now, get out and go to Paloom. There's another woman beside the one that rent the ships. Talk to her and she say that she want to go to Deist too. Maria sensed something bad, and sure enough, once you get in the ship at the right of Paloom, she turn out to be a pirate, and you'll have to fight off her helpers. There're 8 of them, but they're no harder than any enemies you fought in dreadnought, or even out of it. Kill them and Leila will admit defeat. She joins your party. Leila's stats ++++++++++ Left-Handed HP: 150 MP: 5 Attack: 26 Accuracy: 2-68% Defence: 21 Evasion: 2-35% Magic Defence: 2-44% Strength: 18 Endurance: 18 Spirit: 10 Agility: 36 Intelligence: 16 Magic: 10 Level 2 in sword, dagger, and bow skills. Level 1 in other skills. Right hand: Dagger Left hand: Long Sword Head: Gold Hairpin Body: Silver Plate Hand: Mythril Gloves Carrying Longbow. Leila is a creative character. She's best to be fighter, but she can be use to cast black magic too. What weapons she use depends on your characters and your own liking. If 1 of your character is already using a bow, then she tend to be dual-wielding fighter. If none of your character use bows, she then tend to be the bow fighter. What really makes her special is her agility. Because of her high agility stat, she usually acts first in any battle. The thing is, she starts with low HP too, so she needs to suffer a bit at the begining. Being a pirate, she also has a level 2 Bolt spell to counter sea creatures. You now has her ship, so you can travel across the sea. There're random battles in sea too, and the Sea Serpent is the hardest enemy here. They hits for over 100 damage, and with poison effects as a bonus. Fortunately, all sea monsters are weak against bolt, which is why Leila's Bolt spell becomes useful here. Before we do anything though, go back to Poft first to improve Leila's equipment. Give Leila's Gold hairpin to Firion and give her the mythril one. If you want her to use bow, buy her a Mythril Bow. If not, go back to Altair and buy her a Mythril Sword and Mythril Knife. Ditch her silver plate and buy her the heavier mythril armor to improve her strength. Also buy her Fire, Ice and Cure. I assume that Leila is a melee fighter here, because Maria is already using bow. Sell anything old for more gils. Return to Poft and sail the ship. Now, head south and you'll see some land. Head east a bit and you'll see a space to sail out of the small sea. Check the map. Go through the space between the 2 lands and keep heading south. You'll reach the top of snow field. Go east for a while and you'll come to a new island. Check the map, go around the island and land at the south side. Go north from here and you'll see a castle. Get in. Deist Castle ========== There're no battles here. Talk to the child and he'll run off, apperantly thinking that you're soldiers from the empire. Go inside and talk to him again. He'll run up the stairs, so follow him. Go right and down and you'll see the child and his mother. Talk to the mother, ask her about wind drake, and she say that the last wind drake is inside the room, dying from poisons. You'll need a Pendant to talk to a wind drake, and she say that there's one in the cavern to the north. Now, there're quite some treasures to take here. First, go back to where you come up and go west from there to get a Cottage. Go all the way east and then up to use the stairs to 1F. Go south and then west. You'll see 2 doors. Go in the left one and you'll see 3 chest holding Curse, Stop and Stun scrolls. There're black magic, but i personally dont use them, because they dont always hit, and you'll have a lot of important spells to train later, without you wasting time to train these spells. Keep them anyway so you can sell them for hard-earned gils. If you really want to learn one, i suggest learn Curse, because once the enemy is hited, it wont recover, giving you extra advantage. Stun is not much useful because even if it hits, the enemy will recover after a few rounds. Stop is even worse because it's hit-rate is worse than Stun, although the graphic is nice. Now, get out of the room and continue to go west, then go down for a Unicorn Horn. It act as Basuna level 16. Go all the way back to the stairs but dont go up yet, instead go left until you see another door. Go in to find 8 chests waiting for you. They're the all-important Wing Blade, Sage's Wisdom, Saints Spirit, Gold Needle, Eye drop, Cross, Antidote, and Mallet. Give the Wing Blade to Firion. Note: That Wing Blade is a very powerful sword at this stage. It's the weapon that can deal over 100 damage to the Hill Gigas. Well, there're another weapon which can do so too, you'll get it shortly. Now, go back up the stairs back to 2F. Head all the way south from there, and then head west all the way until you see another stairs. Go down and get the Phoenix Dawn. Go back up and get out of the castle. Out of Deist Castle ``````````````````````````````` Go north from the castle and enter the cave there. Deist Cavern =========== Now, we'll be here for very short while only, but this place is the hardest dungeon so far. Well, the undeads here are not too hard, but the fact that sometimes you'll meet a Hill Gigas, or worse, 2 at the same time. Fighting 2 at once is the ultimate challenge here, so learn how to survive this kind of battle. The tactic is the same as you use back in the dreadnought: Blink on important characters like Firion and Gus, Shield on after that, then have Firion keep attacking with wing blade, Maria berserk up Gus and Firion then cast any elemental spells on it, Gus keep attacking, and Leila cast Bolt. If someone is hurted, have Firion cast cure on him, then continue attacking. You should be able to kill the first one in about 8 rounds (at least i use 8 rounds :) ). Now focus full force on another one. Hopefully by this time you have at least Cure level 4 on Firion to cover up damages from the gigas. Well, enough talk, go right from the entrence to get 30 gil in a chest (?!). Now go up a bit and go right and then down to use the stairs. B2 here. Examinate the object there to get the Pendant. Warp out to avoid further chance to meet the crazily strong hill gigas. Out of Deist Cavern ````````````````````````````````` Walk back to the castle and this time get in the room behind the child and it's mother. Talk to the Wind Drake. You'll be able to understand him now, so ask him about dragoon. He says that a dragoon called Gareth is sent to search for the Ultima scroll, but he hasn't return. Remember this. Now ask him about wind drake. He says that his life will end soon, and he wants you to take his egg to the Spring of Life at the bottom of the Deist Cavern. You'll recieve the egg as an item. OK. Now you'll be going to the most dangerous dungeon so far. Use the ship to go to Bafsk (it's just west of Deist) to stock up on Potions and some High Potions. If you have money, buy some Ethers. You should have enough money to buy a few. Sell anything you dont want. High Potions is important here, as potions are not strong enough now. Now, we'll go through the cavern twice. The first time is for getting some nice treasures. Then we stock up again and go through it again to get to the spring. Only like this then you'll be able to survive the journey. Deist Cavern =========== Note: Equipped high potions on everybody. This is for the use when fighting Hill Gigas. Make sure you have enough to last you until we get the treasure. Another thing to remember is that Orge Chieftans drop Wing Blades. If you got it from them, consider yourself lucky. However, they're not easy opponents either, as they easily deal over 100 damage. Revenants are not as hard as Hill Gigas, only with the fact that they deal over 300 damage, and if 4 of them attack the same person, be prepare to face deaths. From the entrence, go south and west to use the stairs. Now go east and you'll see a chest. Get the potion inside and continue east, follow the road and use the stairs. On B3, just follow the road to B4. On B4, Go down then west until you see some grass on the north. Go up and then use the stairs to B5. Go south and then east. You'll come to 4 chests. There're the Flame Bow, Saint's Spirit, Sage's Wisdom and finally, the Knight's Armor, which hides some Adamantoise. They're should be easy at this stage, and your gear should be able to break his defence. Give the Flame Bow to Maria, it's another weapon that can deal more than 100 damage to the hill gigas. Give the Knight's Armor to Gus, and his Gold Armor gives to Firion. Firion is safe to use heavy armor, as adding his strength wont affect his spirit. Dont give Maria heavy armors though, as adding her strength lowers her Intelligence. If her Intelligence lowered (which can happen usually), just use black magics a lot and the stat will add up again. Warp out and go back to Bafsk to stock up on High potions and ethers again. Use the inn, then prepare to go through the cave a second time. Now, from the entrence, go down and then east to use the stairs. On B2, go north and then west. Go up first to get a Mythril Mail. Go back and now go down to get a Mythril Helm. Go back again and this time go west a little and then south. There's a stairs at the middle, you should be able to see it. Go down to B3. DONT use the bridge at the left, because it's a trap. Instead, head north and follow the road to get a Mythril Gloves. Continue the road and you'll come to another chest containing Mythril Mirror. It acts as Wall level 16. Go back the way you come and go back up the stairs. Go back north and now go west and then south. You'll see a chest at the space. It holds the Mage's Staff, but you'll have to fight a few Screamers. They cast Cure 6, but since you're not undeads, it'll only heal your HP. Let them heal you and finish them off. Give the staff to Firion. Now, go all the way north and then get in the small passage on the left. Go along the road to the stairs. On B3, go right and get the Mythril Shield in the chest. Now, go back and go north. Again, DONT cross the bridge to the right. Go all the way north, cross a small bridge (it's safe), and go east. Follow the road and go down to B4. Go north and then west to a clear opening. Get the Acid Bottle in the chest and go down again to the stairs. On B5, go right and then north when you can. You'll see 4 doors. Enter the second one from the right. Now, make sure you're well equipped, as the boss ahead is a tough one, and mostly you'll meet more than 1. MEMO FILE first before talking to it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Chimera HP: 640 MP: 80 Attack: 60 Accuracy: 75% Defence: 50 Evasion: 50% Magic Defence: 3 Magic Resistance: 50% OK, this battle depends on your luck. If you're really lucky, you'll only meet 1 or 2 of this. In this case, you dont need to do any casting, just have everybody spam it with attacks and they'll gone in no time. But if you meet 3 or 4 of them they become harder to defeat. In this case, you'll need to be more careful. They hits for about 100-200 damage, and if all 4 chimera attacks the same target, I'll be quite surprise if that character survives. Cast Shield on Gus and Leila, and Shell too if you want to, because chimera cast Blaze level 8, which is the same as Fire level 8, and can hit everybody for about 50 damage. Fortunately, their defence is no higher than Adamantoise, so you can win even without Berserk. If all 4 cast Blaze together, your characters will be seriously hurted, so have Firion cast Cure frequently. This battle should not be more difficult than the twin Hill Gigas battles, because they neither hit as hard nor they have as much defence and HP. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ After the battle, go to the spring and use the egg. The egg will be released to the spring. Warp out. Out of Deist Cavern ````````````````````````````````` Go back to Altair by putting your ship beside Bafsk first (you should know how to get there right?). Use the Inn, sell anything you dont want, stock up on High potions and ethers, and prepare your fingers, as the battle ahead is nothing you ever experience (yes, it's MUCH harder than Hill Gigas). When you feel that you're prepared and not too tired from the battles at Deist Cavern, go in the headquarter. Talk to everybody to learn that Hilda is acting very abnormal. Go in the throne's room and talk to Gordon. He wants you to talk to her, as he doesn't know what to do. Go to the room below the king's one. MEMO FILE first before talking to Hilda. Apperantly this is not Hilda, but a monster which is disguised as her. Fortunately Leila expect this, so you'll have to fight it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Queen Lamia HP: 1290 MP: 370 Attack: 50 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 50 Evasion: 75% Magic Defence: 7 Magic Resistance: 40% Dont be fooled by the stats. She can deal over 300 damage to you, because of her sharp accuracy. This is a battle that requires your smart action, because any wrong move is deadly here, and can result in your defeat. To make things worse, her attacks can make the target fall asleep. To make things even worse, she cast Entice level 9 A LOT, which can muddle a character and cause them to attack it's allies, and it almost always works. To make things the worst of all, she sometimes cast Blink level 16 on herself, after that I'll be very surprise if your attacks can even touch her. OK, the strategy is: Have Firion cast Shield on itself and Maria first, because they're the most important. Then if you can, cast Blink on Gus. Have Maria cast berserk on Gus and Firion. Have Leila keep casting Bolt (hopefully level 3), because her weapon is not strong enough (except if she has wing blade too). Now, have Firion keep attacking, Maria and Gus also keep spaming her. Queen Lamia usually cast Entice on magic casters, and when i fight her last time, she cast it on Leila and Gus a lot. Be prepare for the worst though, if she attacks Firion and he fall asleep, the battle becomes harder, because Firion has the strongest weapon. Wing Blade can deal over 200 damage on her, and even more with berserk. If Leila got a Wing Blade, have her attack too. Flame Bow can deal about the same ammout too. Now, if someone get muddle, patucularly Firion or Gus, dont care about them and keep attacking the enemy, and revive the victim after they recovered. If she cast Blink, then the battle is much harder, because you cant attack her. You'll have to relay on spells. The only good thing is that her defence is no higher than the chimeras. However, she has no weakness. This battle depends on your skill and partly luck. If you're defeated, try again. Nobody win this fight in 1 try when they play for the first time, if you do please email me with your strategy to beat her. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Note: Lamia Queen sometimes drop some rare armors. It can be a Diamond Plate, a Ribbon, or a Protect Ring. If it's a diamond plate, give it to Maria and use it for the rest of the game. If it's a Ribbon, again, give it to Maria for the rest of the game. If it's a Protect Ring, give it to either Maria or Firion until Mysidia. After this hard battle, Leila leaves your party. She will rejoin you shortly, so dont worry. Instead, Gordon joins back. Dont bother improve his equipment, because he'll leave permenantly very soon. Hilda has being captured at Arena, and will be given as a prize for the winner of the tornament. I suggest training for a while at the northwest part of Fynn to improve your characters, paticularly Gordon. Again, use the spells a lot, and you should have Cure level 6 as soon as possible. Now, if you're ready and well-stocked, go all the way back to Kas'ion. Get in the Chocobo Forest and ride the chocobo. Go through the desert and go right to a small spot of grass. The small camp there is Arena, and the building in the mountains is the Paramecia. Dismount the chocobo and SAVE before enter Arena. Arena ===== Go north and prepare for another boss fight. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Behemoth HP: 1620 MP: 0 Attack: 85 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 50
Evasion: 40% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistance: 50% This is actually not much tougher than the Queen Lamia. The boss hits really hard, dealing about 200-400 damage, but apart from that he's just another normal boss. Shield is essential here, so does Cure, but have everybody keep attacking. It has a lot of HP, but it's defence is not high either, so this battle wont last long. Plus, it dont use magic, so it'll only hit 1 people at a time. Gordon'll have a hard time here, but have him keep casting anything useful instead of attack. As long as your characters is strong enough to withstand 2 hits from it, you should have no problem with this boss. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- After you win, your character want to catch the Dark Knight, unfortunately he expected you and spring a trap for you. Pavel come and save you from the jail. Now, go all the way right and then up to get an Antidote, but fight a few undeads first. Go back down and west then head north until you see a small building. Head east from there and follow the road south and east when you can. Get in the door and take the Cottage, Ether and Elixir from the chests. Exit and now go all the way north until you hit the top wall of this place. Go east until you see a small room. Get in the room and go up the stairs. B1 here. Head a bit north until the empty cell is on your right. Search for a secret hole at the right wall to get in. Now get out of the cell at another secret hole on the bottom right wall. Go right until you see Hilda trapped in the rightmost cell. Now, unequipped everything off Gordon, as he is leaving. After you're done, open the cell. Gordon will bring Hilda to leave. Search for another secret hole outside of the cell at the right, then go south all the way, go left until you see the stairs, and go up. You're on 1F. Go north, east and south to get out of this place. Out of Arena ````````````````````` You're in the desert. The enemies here is HARD, and they all can hit for over 100 damage. Fortunately, you should be strong enough to fight them. Cross the desert and go back to Kas'ion. Ride the chocobo in the chocobo forest again and ride your way back to Bafsk. Dismount and get on your ship there. Go north all the way until you reach the gap between the 2 lands. Cross the gap and park your ship south of Altair. Get in Altair to find that the town is deserted. A soldier there tells you that everybody's in the small camp outside of Fynn, ready to take back Fynn from the empires. The camp is just to the left of Gatrea. Go there and you'll see Gordon and Hilda. Gordon want you to make the first move to attack Fynn. Go to Gatrea, sell anything old like Gordon's old equipment, stock up on high-potions and ethers, use the Inn, and go to Castle Fynn. You cant enter it in the past. Castle Fynn =========== You'll meet Leila on the first floor. Talk to her and she'll join you again. Note: Now, be extremely careful, as this place is crawling with the most dangerous enemies so far. Spectre can stone everybody at once with Break level 6, Chimera is here as normal enemies, Revenant can hit for over 300 damage, and there's a small chance that you'll meet Wizards, much more powerful than either Warlocks or Sorcerers. They can cast Drain and Osmose, which absorbs HP and MP, Break level 6 to stone 1 of your characters, and the worst is Flare level 8, which hits everybody for over 100 damage. However, if you're lucky enough to meet them, they drop REALLY IMPORTANT spells, such as Osmose (absorb MP) and Flare (non- elemental black magic). These 2 spells normally cannot be owned until much later in the plot, so if you got them, celebrate a bit and give them to Maria, the black mage. The sooner you start to train them, the better and easier the game becomes. Even Sorcerer, a better version Warlocks, is dangerous enough. They cast Drain level 6, Curse level 6, any elemental spells at level 8, Muddle level 6 to let you kill each other, and even Doom level 6, which can instantly kill everyone. However, they also drops fairly good spells, like Haste, Aura, Doom, and Toad. This place is not too large, but be prepare to face lots of deaths in normal battles. From where you joins Leila, go east to the small road. Follow the road until you come to 2 chests. They holds 1000 gil and 2000 gil. Go back to the main hall. Now go west through another road and go up first. Follow the road until you see another chest. It contains 1000 gil. Go back down to the junction and this time go down, where you'll see another stairs. Go up. Go up again. Here is 3F. Now, dont go up, instead, go right all the way and go up. Inside that door is 3 chests, holding Doom, Break, and Toad scroll. You wont be able to get Break spells again very soon, so give it to Maria if you want. As for Doom and Toad, they'll become common in the future, so it's all right if you sell them for gils. Go all the way back to 1F. Go to Gatrea to rest if you need to, then go up the stairs where Leila is blocking earlier to 2F. Go up a bit and go left to a chest. It's an Aura spell, which is black magic and gives a slight boost in both defence and magic defence. This will become common in the future, so it's all right if you sell it, and it's not much useful either. However, you'll have to fight some Sergeants and Sorcerers, which should not be too hard. Just remember to kill Sorcerer first. Now, head down to the space below the chest one, and search for a secret hole at the left. When you did, go north and get the Werebane. Go back to the main hall. Now, go right and you'll see another chest. It holds a potion, as well as some undeads. Use the secret hole to the right of the chest and go down. There's a chest containing Titan's Gloves. Since Gus already got a Thief's Gloves, give the titan gloves to Firion. Note: The road between the chest here to the dead end at the left is where you'll meet Wizards most. Fight here for a while, and when you meet them, pray that they drop Osmose or Flare. I got Flare last time. Go back the way you come to the main hall. Now go up to 3F. Go up again to 4F. Go up to the boss sitting there. MEMO FILE first before talk to him. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Gotoos HP: 2000 MP: 80 Attack: 70 Accuracy: 90% Defence: 60 Evasion: 65% Magic Defence: 5 Magic Resistance: 40% This boss has a lot of HP, but this battle wont take too long, because his defence is not high. He deals about 300 damage each hit, so it's not too much at this stage, since your character should have more than 1000 HP. However, the battle will take a turn when he start to cast Haste on himself, or even worse, his special berserk that will tripled his attack damages. The trick is to kill him QUICK before he thinks that he needs Haste or his own Berserk. Have everybody keep attacking, and some curing if needed. If you successfully get an Osmose spell from the wizards, use it to drain his MP. I manage to kill him in 4 rounds with the exact same weapons as i use in this guide, with Gus powered up with berserk. Another trick makes the battle too easy, but it can be very effective if he got berserk or haste up. Use a Slumber Stalk. It's the same as Sleep level 16, so it almost always works, and try to kill him before he wakes up. Whatever tactic you use, this battle should not be more difficult than when you meet Hill Gigas for the first time in dreadnought. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Note: Gotoos sometimes drops some nice items. It can be Haste spell (give it to Maria), Baccus's Wine (same as berserk level 6), and best of all, a Ripper, which is a VERY powerful dagger at this stage, even better than what you'll get later. If you got it, give it to Gus and give the main gauche to Leila. After you kill Gotoos, Fynn is clear from all enemies, as well as the town. Now, talk to Hilda and memorize "Mysidia" when she mention that Mindu hasnt return. Ask her about mysidia and she says something about "Mask". Memorize it too. Ask her that too. She says that 1 of the mask is hidden inside the secret basement of castle Fynn, and the password is "ekmet teloez". Memorize it but if you ask her that, she doesnt know how to get in there. Ask Gordon about mysidia and he says that the ultima scroll is a very powerful spell. Memorize "ultima scroll". Now ask him about the password Hilda has say. He doesnt know the entrance either, but he says that Pavel knows, because he's a thief and he certainly knows every inch of this castle. Go to the town. Now the town is at peace, the weapons, armors, and magic shop are opened. Dont do any shopping yet. Just sell any spells and things you dont want. Now visit Pavel's house on the bottom left corner of the town. Ask him the password. He says that the entrance is at the top right corner of the throne's room. Go all the way back to where Hilda and Gordon is sitting. Now go to the top right corner. Check the top spot of the right wall. Say the password and the door will open. Go down thrice until you're at 1F. Dont go down again. Instead, search for a secret hole to the right. Go out to the ground (dont go too far from the wall or you'll get out to the world). Go south and enter another place through another secret hole. There's a soldier here. Go in the room and get the 3 chest holding Gold Shield, Gold Plate, and Gold Armor. Give the Gold Armor to Leila and the Plate to Maria (except if she got a much better diamond plate). Get out the same way to the world. Reenter the town. This time we do some shopping first. Buy everybody a Titan's Helm (except Maria if she is using the Ribbon). Buy a Wing Blade for Leila if she doesn't have it. The spells here is not very good, although if you want, buy the Slow spell for Firion. It doesnt always hits, but if it hits, it can be a big advantage. The other spells are not as good. Use the Inn, then go all the way back to the secret entrance, go down thrice, and memo file before enter the basement. Basement of Castle Fynn ===================== Note: The enemies here is quite tough. Swappers and Brains like to cast Swap level 4, which exchange your HP and MP with theirs if it hits. Their HP is very low though, so kill them quick. Killer Mantis can deal over 300 damage each slash, Spectre and Revenant is back, and Parasite absorbs your MP each time they hit you. This is annoying, but it's a good period to improve your Max MP, Magic, and Magic Defence. Make sure you got quite some ethers though to recover your lost MP. From the entrance, go south through the road slightly on the left. Go right and get a Knife. Ditch it if you want, but i consider sell it for gils. Go back to the stairs, then go west and north. At the junction, go northwest and get the Eye drop. I believe you dont stock eye drops anymore right? From there go east, and south, following the road until you get to another chest holding Shirt. All is useless items...but they all can become gil later, so cheer up. Go back up and go right when you can. Go down the stairs. B2 here. Go right and then north. There's a chest here holding potion. Quite useless, as you have too much HP to be healed by potions. Keep it anyway to heal small damages. Now head all the way left until you reach the west wall of this room. Go down and get another potion. head all the way north (a little to the right) until you can head west. Go north again when you can to get a Maiden's Kiss. Very few enemies can cast Toad, so dont need to keep too much of this. Go back down and go left all the way. Go up all the way and go left again to the stairs. Now you're at B3. Go south after going a bit right. Continue the road to get another potions. Oh man. Be patient, as the place is starting to get tougher. From now on you'll meet Parasites a lot. Go back up and now go west, then go up a bit and continue west and south when you can. You'll reach the bottom wall. Go left to get a Flame Shield. If 1 of your character is using shield, equipped it. Go back and head all the way up until you cannot go any further. Now go left and get the Silk Web. It acts as Slow level 16. Go down to the stairs. When you're on B4, follow the road, keeping to the west wall, and at the first junction, go northeast, and get the first Blood Sword in the game. You'll have to kill a few undeads. The Blood Sword absorbs HP every hit, making yourself an undead. I personally sell it, but it's your choice whether you want to use it. Now go back to the junction, head south and keep following the road until you come to a 4-way junction. Use the north road, then east on another junction. Now follow this road until you come to a chest holding Flame Mail. Give it to Gus and give his Knight's Armor to Firion. Go back south, west and south again until you reach the bottom wall. Now go east and go north first for a Backstabber. It's actually Muddle level 16. Go down to the stairs. You're at B5. There's only a little thing to do here. Go right, cross the water, and go north. You'll come to a chest. Now, memo save first, as the monsters is tough. Open it for the Orchalidagger. You'll have to fight some Rhyos, a better version of Chimeras. They hits a little harder, have Blaze level 8 too, and the worst of all, they cast Bad Breath, which can stone everybody at once. Quickly kill them before they done serious damage. Give the dagger to Gus (if Gus already got Ripper, give it to Leila). Now, go up until you hit the wall, then go right. You'll see 6 doors. Go through the second one from the right. Get the White Mask and use the warper at the north to get out. Out of Castle Fynn and it's basement :) ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Now that you got the White Mask, it's time to go to Mysidia. Get on your boat at Altair and go west from there. You'll pass a ring of mountains surrounding a tower. Park your boat at the land just west of the mountain rings (check your map). It's the end of the line of mountains there. Go directly south (pass a lake) and you'll see Mysidia. Now, make sure that you have about 100000 gils to spend, as we need lots of things here and they're EXPENSIVE. First, enter the weapon shop. Buy Ice Bow for Maria. Buy Flame Lance for Gus and buy Power Cane for Firion. Power Cane cost 8000, Flame Lance cost 15000, and the Ice bow cost 5000. Now, enter the armor shop. Buy Leila the Knight's Armor. Buy Maria and Leila Titan's Gloves. Firion should have it already, and Gus using Thief's Gloves. Keep it, because Gus's agility is too little, and the gloves should give him a boost. If anybody is using shield in your characters, buy Ice Shield for them. Now, enter the magic shop (the largest building at the northwest). You can buy almost every spells that most shops has here (except from Fynn). Go to the center counter. Buy Holy, Barrier and Wall for Firion. Holy cost 20000 and the other 2 cost 8000 each. Buy Banish for Maria and Gus, it's a useful spell that can save you from walking miles. Firion and Gus should have Warp (you probably have it already), and everybody (yes, EVERYBODY) should have Life. It's very important, and although it's white magic, it can save your life (it DO save lives). After doing all your shopping, go to the south part of the town. You'll see stairs. Go down (dont be fooled by the music, there's no enemies here) and place the White Mask on the status. You must do this so that you can continue your plot later. Notes: I suggest spending times training here around Mysidia. The enemies here are tough enough to really train you up. Dark Flan is the most effective training target. Because of their extremely high defence, you cant damage them with attacks unless they criticals. They're weak against Fire, but it's best to kill them with attacks. Keep repeatly hitting it and wait for criticals. It's the best method to level up your weapon skill. If you lucky enough, you'll meet Behemoth here. Train your new spells really hard and cast them each battle. The other enemies here are Cockatrice (stone people with attacks), Ghosts (deal about 500 damage and cast deadly spells like Mini), Imps (cast Muddle level 16 and let you kill each other), Giga Rhino (hits about 300 damage and has 1140 HP), and some old enemies like Spectre and Mines. We need to get the other mask. Go back to your boat. Go back through that gap to the open sea. Keep going south and check the map until you see the tiny island is directly on your left. Go there. SAVE before enter. Tropical Island ============ Note: The enemies here are not tougher than the Deist Cavern, but there're still some new things. Deadheads is the better version of Deadringers. Red Mousse and Yellow Jelly is weaker than Dark Flan, but still has the same extreme defence. The red one is weak against bolt, and the yellow one weak against fire and ice. Poison toad can...poison you, and there're a few Swappers straying around. From the entrence, go south and at the junction keep going south for an Eye Drop. Go back to the last junction and this time go a little north then go west at the next one, following the road to the north for a Hi-Potion. Go back to the last junction again and this time go north. You'll see another chest holding another Hi- Potion. Now, go back to the very first junction and go right a little then south. Go right after that and take the Ether before going back. Now go west and follow the road until there's a 3-way junction. Go south first for a Silk Web. Go back and this time go the north road, following the road until you can use the stairs. When on B2, go all the way south, west a little, then go all the way north until the top. Go west from there to get a Slumber Stalk. Go down the stairs to B3. Go south and you'll see another chest. Get the Silk Web. Banish yourself back to B2. If you go north instead of going back, you'll reach the secret town. There's a weapon shop here. None of the things here is as good as Mysidia, however if you come here earlier, the things here can help. Now, from that empty chest, go all the way east and south into a large road. Follow the road, get the Poison scroll, and go south. Give the poison spell to Maria and train it until it get to level 3. It'll help later. Go all the way south until you reach the bottom wall. There's another chest here holding a Blind scroll. Give it to Maria if you want. If you train it to level 6, it can even blind most bosses. Go west, following the road until you see yet another chest to the left. Get another poison spell here, then go south all the way until you cannot go anymore, then go west. Keep going west until you see yet another chest to the south holding another Blind scroll. Go north then west to the stairs. This is B3. Go south, get a Garlic, and go right. Go north when you can, until you reach the top. Go west from there, and go south to the stairs. You're on B4. This is a large place. There're 5 stairs here, one is behind you. First, go down and maybe a bit to the right to the stairs. Go up to B3. Go north and get the Phoenix Dawn, at the same time fighting with some undeads. Banish back to B4. Now, go all the way east to the southeast corner. There's another stairs here. Go up to B3. Go north to another stairs to B4 again. Go south from here to B5. At B5, go south all the way, and go west all the way. You'll come to 3 chests. There're 2 Slumber Stalk and the Gaia Drum, which also holds some monsters. Banish yourself twice to B3, then go south to B4 again. Now go all the way north to the top, and get the chest holding 1000 gil. Go all the way west from here and you'll see yet another stairs. Go in and get a Thanatos. Go back up. Now go all the way east to the northeast corner. Go down to B5. Get the Sleep scroll here, then go west to the only small room here. There's a boss guarding the chest to the north. You may want to MEMO FILE first before talking to it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Giga Rhino HP: 1140 MP: 0 Attack: 50 Accuracy: 85% Defence: 50 Evasion: 60% Magic Defence: 6 Magic Resistance: 30% Giga Rhino is a normal enemies around Mysidia. If you come here earlier, this may be a hard battle. However, if you come here after getting all the new weapons from Mysidia, this is just a normal battle. Even with your best armors from Mysidia, it still hits for over 200 damage mostly, so dont forget to cure. However, with your current weapons, you should be able to kill it in 3 rounds. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Get the Black Mask and go north to use the warper. Out of Tropical Island ``````````````````````````````````` Go all the way back to Mysidia to heal and sell off old things you dont want. Train more around Mysidia, level up spells, paticularly Poison and Holy (Osmose or Flare too if you got it). Now that you got the black mask, it's time to go to Mysidia Cavern to get the Crystal Rod that enable you to get into Mysidia Tower. It's just east of Mysidia town. To get there, go north from the town, go east, sticking to the mountains. When you can, go south to enter the mountains, go west a little, then go south. SAVE before enter the cave. Mysidia Cavern ============= Note: This is a long dungeons. Bring along TONS of ethers to prevent running out of mana. If you have Osmose, it's a big adventage. The enemies here are very tough, especially Cockatrice, which stones people a lot. Bring along some Gold Needle (except if you somehow have Esuna level 6). Winged Ray deals about 300 damage each hit. Rhyos are here as normal enemies, and so is the Shrieker. From the entrance, go west then at the junction, go west again. Go down that stairs and get the Gold Hairpin. Go back to the last junction. Now go south and east when you can. Get the Ninja suit in the small space there. Give it to Maria (if Maria got the Diamond Plate already, give it to Firion). Go back to the last junction and now go west until you cannot go anymore, then go south. Keep going south and a little west until you reach the bottom wall. Go east and you'll see a shadow of Firion blocking the way. Give the Black Mask to it and it'll disappear. Go down to B2. Note: If you didn't put the White Mask to the status at Mysidia earlier, you cannot put the black mask to the shadow. From the stairs, go north until the top wall. Go right and south to get the Power Staff. Keep it so you can sell it later for gils. Go back up and go right again, until you see a chest at the right, surrounded by walls. There's a secret hole to the right wall, search it to get in. Get the Flame Lance and get back out. Now go all the way left, going north a little, to the far west wall. Go down the stairs and go east to the door. Go down the stairs. On B3, use the stairs to the left. After that, go west all the way (a little south). You'll see another chest surrounded by walls. The secret hole is slightly north from where you come. Get the Ice Bow and get out. Now, go all the way east until you arrive at the east wall of this floor. Go down to an open area. Get the Orgekiller (fight a few Bombs first) and go west, following the road until the end. Go in the door and use the stairs. You're at B4 now. Go west a little and go all the way south. Follow the road east and go up when you can. You'll go up a stairs, then follow the road north, west a little, until you can go east. After that go up until you reach the top wall. Go south into a really large open space. Get the Potion and go southwest. You'll see 3 doors. Go in the middle one to get a Phoenix Down, a Mute Bell, and a Gold Needle. Mute Bell has the same effect as Silence. Get out and go to the bottom right corner. Get in the door and use the stairs. This is B5, the last floor. Go right and north to get a Drain scroll. You may get this from the wizards in Fynn earlier (it's easier to get this than Osmose or Flare). This spell is not very powerful unless you got it level up to about level 6 (can drain about 300 HP) and you got max Intelligence. If Maria doesn't have it yet, give it to her. However, this chest also unleashed some Ghosts. They're tough in packs, and can cast spells like Mini level 7, Poison level 16, and even Stun level 16, which can stun 1 of your characters, and it almost always works. From the chest, go south until you cannot go anymore, then go east all the way (up a stairs) until you hit another wall. Now go north and you'll see a pool inside the left wall. You'll be able to find a secret hole just below the pool. Go south after you get in to find a Mini scroll. This white magic can be very powerful, but unless you got it leveled high, it's quite useless. If you want to use it, give it to Firion. Now go up to get some really nice treasures, which is...4 potions. Get out through the hole and go all the way north, then all the way west, and all the way south. Now, go down the stairs, go left and go north to the door at the end. Get another Drain scroll (give it to anybody or sell it), an Osmose scroll (give it to Maria, but if she already have it, give it to Firion), and the Crystal Rod. Warp out. Out of Mysidia Cavern ````````````````````````````````````` Go back to Mysidia to heal and sell anything extra. Train your new spells for a while here, then when you're ready, take off everything Leila has and sell them. She'll leave your party soon. Put her in the back row. Go back to your boat and try to get in the ring of mountains surrounding Mysidia Tower. Something is suddenly sucking your boat down. You'll arrive in the small intestine of a massive monster. Leila is gone. There's only 1 road here, so there's no need for me to guide you. One word here, is that there're small acid pools all over the place. They hurt you like poisons, so be careful. On the way you'll get a Headband. Give it to Gus. After that you'll get a Power Sash. Give it to Gus too and give his Flame Mail to Firion. Go all the way to the "door". You arrive at the Stomach. There's no enemies here, and this place is full of people who get swallowed by the monster too. Cross the acid pool and go left to the guy standing there. If you ask him about Dragoon, he'll say that he's a Dragoon himself. He's actually Gareth, the dragoon who has been sent to unseal the Ultima scroll. Let him see the Crystal Rod and he'll join you. Gareth's stat +++++++++++++ Right-Handed HP: 549 MP: 5 Attack: 57 Accuracy: 8-99% Defence: 43 Evasion: 2-21% Magic Defence: 2-48% Strength: 60 Endurance: 32 Spirit: 26 Agility: 26 Intelligence: 16 Magic: 5 Level 8 in Sword skills, Level 5 in Shield skill, other skills level 1 Right hand: Wing Sword Left hand: Gold Shield Head: Titan's Helm Body: Knight's Armor Hand: Titan's Gloves Gareth is a really strong fighter. Make sure you don't change his weapon type. He has a little spirit, so give him some basic spells like Cure, Esuna, and Life after getting out. His HP is too low for now, so protect him from being 1-hited. Go north where there's a chest holding a Power Armlet. Give it to Firion. Go back and go all the way west, and then north to the "door". You're at the mouth. Go west a little first, then go north to a chest. It's the Terra Sword. Give it to Firion. Now go all the way south and get another chest here. It's a Diamond Shield, but it also letting out some Shriekers. Kill them and give the shield to Gareth. Now, head west, north and west again to the boat. It's guarded by a boss. Prepare yourself, MEMO FILE first then talk to it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Barrel Worm HP: 2000 MP: 0 Attack: 120 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 100 Evasion: 10% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistance: 50% This is quite a hard battle. The worm hits for over 600 damage, and it has a lot of HP. It's defence is very high too, making damaging it is hard work. Fortunately, you usually get to attacks first, so you can act quickly to prevent taking too much damage. Immediately cast Shield (hopefully level 5 or higher) on Gareth, as he'll be 1-hited if the worm attack him. Have Firion and Gus keep attacking it. Maria cast berserk on them, then keep attacking too. Quickly revive anybody who die before the worm attacks. This battle should not be too hard for you, just dont drag the battle too long. That Terra Sword can hit for over 300 damage to the worm, so this really is not as hard as you may think. Another tactic is to use a Slumber Stalk. This somehow makes the battle too easy, but if you cannot win the normal way, then this tactic will work. ----------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- After defeating the worm, you'll escape from the monster on a boat. Go back to Mysidia to heal and sell extra things. Train up Gareth a bit, because we'll be going to the most difficult dungeons so far, full of very tough monsters. Give him some basic spells. Make sure you bring along TONS of ethers, as the tower is LONG and if you run out of MP the journey becomes harder. Hi- Potions are useless now, as i believe your characters should have at least 2000 HP, Gareth aside. Train up Gareth so that he has at least 1000 HP and Sword level 9. Now, if you're prepared, go to the mountain ring and get in the tower. Mysidia Tower ============= Note: Be warned. This place is a spice-up version of Mysidia. If you think that the forest around Mysidia is hard enough, then this place is even harder. Vampirette can hit for over 500 damage and cast Entice 6, which muddles everyone, and mostly Gareth will be hited. Imp is very common here, so if your magic defence is not high enough, be prepare for a hard battle each time you meet them. Gotoos is here as normal enemies. There're 4 bosses in all here, so if you want to warp out to heal anytime then go ahead. I personally prefer going through the whole tower in one shot. From the entrance, go east and north for a Staff. Go back down and now go west across the room until you hit the opposite wall. Go up and you'll get another Staff ^^. Now go east until you pass the stairs, then go north. You'll see a chest surrounded by walls, but go east then north for YET another Staff (what the ****?!). Go back to the surrounded chest and find a secret hole there. Get the White Robe. Give it to Firion, no matter what armor he has now, unless his spirit has add up to 99. This will add 10 spirit to the user. Give Firion's Flame Armor to Gareth. Go back out and go south to the stairs you passed earlier. Go up to 2F. Now, go east a little, then go north, following the road until you come to 2 chests holding Flame Bow and Flame Lance. Go back to the stairs. Now go south (a little to the west) and follow the road again until you reach a junction. Go west a little to the west wall, then go north, follow the road until you see a chest. It holds a Flame Shield. Go back south to the last junction, and this time go south then east to the stairs. This is 3F. It's covered with lava, and swim in it damages your party. The 2 doors directly above you are empty rooms, so ignore them and go west instead. You'll come to another 2 doors. Take the left one. Now go directly east until you see a chest. Take the Flame Sword and give it to Firion. Give Firion's Terra Sword to Gareth. Go back west and go up to the land. Go up the stairs but dont go in the door yet. Instead, go left and get the Flame Helm. Give it to Firion. Go back east, cross the land, and east again to get the Flame Mail. Give it to Gareth. Now enter the door. MEMO FILE first before talking to the mage. The mage will change to a Fire Gigas. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Fire Gigas HP: 1800 MP: 240 Attack: 100 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 100 Evasion: 40% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistant: 50% This actually is not a hard battle. He hits for about 500 damage, and it cast Fire level 16, which hits a character for about 300 damage. It also can cast Boulder 9, which hits for over 200 damage on a character. Have everybody spam him with attacks. If you worry that Gareth will be killed quickly, cast Shield on him. You dont even need to cast Ice, which is it's weakness. Even though Flame Sword is fire-based, and the giga will not take extra damage from fire (Fire spell even heals him), the sword is strong enough itself, so it still can deal about 200 damage to it. As long as you focus fully on attacking and some curing, this is quite an easy battle. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- After the battle go up the stairs. Now you're on 4F. Go north then west to get the Ice Shield. Go down and up the stairs you see to 5F. Go south for the Ice Lance. Give it to Gus. Banish or go north back to 4F. Now go south from the stairs and go a little to the right for Ice Gloves. Give it to Gus. From here there's only 1 way, so i wont guide you, but be sure you get the Ice Armor in a chest when you see it on the way (it's southwest from the stairs at the end of the road). Go up to 5F. Give the armor to Gus and pass the power stash to Firion if you want. Again, a 1-way floor. Just follow the road, crossing lots of ice spikes that damages you. Get the Ice Brand on the way, give it to Firion and give his Flame one to Gareth. After that go north, up 2 set of stairs (there's more random battles from here), and go in the door. OK, there's another mage waiting. Prepare your fingers, MEMO FILE, and talk to the mage. He'll change into the Ice Gigas, and he's not too easy this time. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Ice Gigas HP: 2000 MP: 140 Attack: 120 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 120 Evasion: 50% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistance: 50% Sorry dude. It's time to get serious and lay out all your spells. This guy hits for over 800 damage, and apart from the Boulder spell (which is all giga bosses's special attack), it also cast Ice level 12, which hits everybody for about 80 damage. As you may expected, it gains HP from Ice spells and weak to Fire one. Ice Brand is so strong that it didnt even need that ice effect to damage things. It deals over 200 damage mostly, so does the Ice Lance you get earlier. Fire Sword is another advantage here, because it deals extra fire damage to this boss (i once saw Gareth deals 340 damage using it, without berserk). Even so, 1 hit from the gigas can bring Gareth to it's knees, so cast Shield (hopefully level 6) on him. Cast it on other people after that. You may cast Shell on Gareth too if Gareth is taking too much damage from the ice spells. If somebody dies, revive but dont bother heal him, instead have everybody attack (Maria cast Fire). Fire level 6, with 99 Intelligence, deals about 1000 damage to it, but it takes great work to have 99 Intelligence at this stage. You can win without the fire spells, but winning that way is a real challenge. This boss runs out of MP a lot faster than the last gigas, as he has far lower max MP. When he runs out, he'll attacks non-stop. This spells trouble, unless he is near death. Again, you can always take out a Slumber Stalk and let him take a nap while you taking away his HP. This makes the battle too easy though. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- Hope you're not wearing out now, as the boss ahead is nothing you ever face before. Note: Ice Gigas sometimes drop things. It can be a Notus (most often), a Stop scroll (same as stun but even less hit-rate), or even an Ice Brand. If you get the sword, celebrate a bit and give to to Gareth. I played the game 6 times and i only get the sword once... Go up the stairs. 6F is a creepy place. Go north all the way then go east for a potion. Go back a bit then go south. Go east on the first junction and keep going until the wall. Go south all the way and go west after that. Get the Spellbinder and give it to Firion. You'll be using this mace for a long time. Go back and go west to the door. Go up the stairs. 7F here. This is just basically a large room, without any roads. Go right and get the Silk Web in the chest. Continue east until the wall, then go north for a Hermes. Now go left a while and get the Unicorn Horn, then continue until the end. Go in the door. Now, make sure your fingers are ready, and so is your character. MEMO FILE first, before talking to that mage. He'll change to the Thunder Gigas, which probably wont be defeated in one try. ----------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- Thunder Gigas HP: 2500 MP: 370 Attack: 150 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 150 Evasion: 60% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistance: 50% I forgot how many times i retry before beating him narrowly when i play for the first time. If you think that Ice Gigas is hard, this battle will be like fighting 3 of them at the same time. This guy can 1-hit Gareth easily, and even any characters. To make things worse, even your best weapons now wont hurt him much, and i doubt Maria can even do any damage to him with a bow. Immediately cast Blink (best if it's level 6) on Maria, then cast it to other characters. Shield too if you got time. Have Maria cast berserk (hope you got it at level 4 or higher) on Gus and Firion, then keep casting Poison, which is the boss's weakness. Unfortunately, you cant level up that spell too much before fighting him, and you'll need it at level 3 at least to damage him probably. I guess i dont need to tell you that the boss eats Bolt for lunch. The only good thing about this boss is that he usually loves to cast Thunderbolt level 12, which is the same as Bolt, and hits a character for about 300 damage. He also can cast Boulder level 9. Those spells wont damage you too much, just quickly heal the damage. However, this doesn't means that he wont attack. One hit from him, even with Blink level 6, can deal over 1000 damage. I guess you can figure out what happen if the victim doesnt have any protection. I advice against using Osmose on him, as you don't want him to use his deadly attacks. Instead, keep everybody alive and kicking so that the boss will have to choose his victim. Cure is the most essential spell here, so is Life, Poison, Berserk, Blink and Shield. Dont drag the battle no matter what, because you cant risk his MP will last forever. I never have the problem of him running out of mana and start killing people, but you better hope his MP to last. I'll be very surprise if you beat him on your first try when you're new to the game. Try again after the defeat, and if you really cannot beat him, use a Slumber Stalk. It doesn't always work this time though, so try your luck. Good Luck!!!! ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Note: I get a Spellbinder when i play the game for the forth time. It may drop other things, but i never seen it. Try your luck... Dont think that the hard parts are over. Heal up and go up the stairs. You're now on 8F. Go right a little and go north, ignoring all the doors, until the top. Now go east and get the Flare, but by doing that you're also letting out some Gotoos. Kill them, give the spell to Maria (if she already have it, give it to Gus) and go back west. Go down a little and enter the right path directly below the top one. Use the door at the far right. 9F is short. Go north and then east, follow the road to get an Hourglass. Go back and go west across the water. There's another chest here holding a Cross. Go north and a little west, up the stairs, and keep going north until the top. Now go east and MEMO FILE before open that chest. You'll get the Black Robe, but you'll also have to fight it's guardian. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ White Dragon HP: 2500 MP: 140 Attack: 120 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 120 Evasion: 75% Magic Defence: 5 Magic Resistance: 50% You may think that this boss is easier than the gigas. You're wrong if you do. True, this boss deal less damage than the last boss (about 800), but what make this boss hard is the fact that it value it's attacks as much as his spells. Apart from the attacks, the dragon can cast Icestrom level 16, which can hit everybody for about 120 damage. However, unlike the last boss, it attacks more often. Another fact that make this battle hard is that it wont have enough MP to keep casting. After casting about 8 times, his MP will run out, and he'll just keep attacking. Dont let that happen. The good thing is that it's defence is lower than the last boss, so with berserk on, you should be able to hurt him. It's HP is not too much either, so dont drag the battle. Keep everybody alive and Cure them to prevent being killed by it's spell. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- NOW the hard part is over!!! Give the Black Robe to Maria, because it adds 10 Intelligence to the user. If Maria is using a Diamond Plate, give that plate to Gareth. Go south and then east. You'll see 4 doors. Use the second one from the left. Go north and talk to Mindu. He will try to break the seal with all his power. He successed, but die after that. Go in the door. There're 4 white orbs around a brown one. Go around the room and use the 4 white orbs. They will give 10 Intelligence, 10 Spirit, 10 Strength and 10 Agility to a random person. Now use the brown orb in the center to get the Ultima scroll. The spell is based on Spirit, so you should give it to Firion. A warper appears. Use it to get out. Out of Mysidia Tower ``````````````````````````````````` Note: The Ultima spell can deal 100 damage even at level 1. However, no matter how high your spirit is, it wont affect it's damage much, unlike Holy. Holy at level 6 can deal over 400 damage at 99 spirit, while Ultima level 6 can only deal about 300 damage. Therefore, i suggest you use Holy as your main attack spell, and Ultima is only for conserving mana. Now, in your success of getting the Ultima spell, the whole world is suddenly crawling with strong monsters, as you'll notice. Even the sea is more dangerous before. Now, go back to Altair and found out that you cannot enter it. What the hell?! Go to Gatrea and met the same fate. Go to Fynn, and luckily it's still there. You'll see a strange thing at the north of Fynn. Get in and heal, then enter the castle. Leila is there, apperently success in escaping from the monster in front of the tower. Talk to Hilda to learn that a Cyclone has destroyed a lot of places, and is threatening to destroy Fynn too. Memorise "Cyclone" and ask her about it. She says that the Emperor of the empire is controlling it. Ask Gordon about it too and he says that you cannot enter the cyclone from the ground. Now, if you been talk to the mages in Mysidia after getting out of the tower, one of them will tell you to unleash the wind drake you saved earlier. Go to the first floor of the castle and use the stairs at the southwest. Go to 3F and go left then north. You'll come to a door. Enter it. Go north to find yourself in front of a big mirror. Use the Pendent at the mirror to reveal that the egg has hatched, and the baby wind drake is flying towards Fynn. You'll get the wind drake as an item. Now get out of the castle and get in the town. Go to Pavel's house. Ask him about the cyclone and he'll let you take his items he stealed for use. Go to his bed and find a secret hole at the right wall. There're 8 chest inside, holding Silver Plate, Ruby Plate, Gold Hairpin, Thief's Gloves, Gold Plate, Ninja Suit (give this to Gareth if you want), Elixir, and finally the Blood Sword. This is the second blood sword in the game. I personally sell it, but it's your choice whether to use it or not. Sell anything extra and old, buy lots of ethers and maybe a few elixirs. Train for a while around Fynn, as now it's full of Giga Rhinos, Sergeants and some Captains, Sorcerers, and even Hill Gigas. This is a place for making money, as sorcerers drops lots of valuable spells, and selling them makes you rich enough to buy almost anything. Now, when you're prepared, go in the Cyclone. The wind drake will fly you in. Cyclone ======= Note: This place is not too dangerous, however a few enemies here are pure terrors. Wood Golem can be a hard opponent, Generals hit for over 1000 damage and is hard to be damaged too, and the worst of all is Succubus, a better version Vampirette. They hits over 1000 damage usually, and can even hit 2000 when criticals. Kill them fast before they 1-hit someone. Royal Guards are not too tough (deal quite some damage), but they drop Venom Axe, which is worth 10000 gil. Hunt for them a little. When you entered, follow the road east and go up the first stairs you see. Go left first for a Ripper. Give it to Gus if he dont have it. Go south all the way and go left. Go up another stairs. Be careful of the electric floors. Now go south and west for a Venom Axe. If you have an axe user, give it to him. Banish twice or walk all the way back to 1F. When you're back, go west and go up the second stairs you see. On 2F, just follow the road left to 3F. Go west from here and you'll see the first stair. Go up this stairs first. You're now on a big room, but there's only 2 chests. Go north and then west for a Diamond Gloves. Give it to Gus. Now go back north and then go east for a Diamond Helm. Again, give it to Gus, as he's a fighter. Banish back to 3F or walk back. Now go south all the way and follow the road east to another stairs. Go up to 4F. Just go right until you see 2 stairs. Use the left one first. Go west all the way and go south, ignoring the electric floors on the right. Get the Defender sword here and give to to Firion, passing the old Ice Brand to Gareth. From here, go west into a road, and follow it to another chest. Now, MEMO FILE before opening it. It holds a Diamond Mail, but it also released 1 to 2 Generals. If you got only one to fight, just spam him with attacks. If you got 2, ready your shield spell on Firion and Gus, then attack. Defender can hits for over 300 damage on them, so don't lack attacks. Give the armor to Gus, passing the old Ice one to Gareth. Note: The road that has electric floors here lead to a large room with some empty rooms. There're good training places, as some of them hides some Wizards. I myself has train here for an hour, hunting for rare spells, and i get an Osmose spell and 3 Flare spells here. You NEED Osmose spells for Maria and Firion, and since you'll only get one in the game, you'll have to hunt for the other one on your own. When you're done, banish back to 4F. Now use the right stair. On 5F, just follow the road north to 6F. Now, go north all the way and follow the road as it goes east until you see stairs. Before going up the stairs, MEMO FILE first and open the chest there for a Zephyr's Flute, which is a powerful item, but unfortunately you'll have to fight it's guardian. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Green Dragon HP: 3000 MP: 190 Attack: 150 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 150 Evasion: 75% Magic Defence: 8 Magic Resistance: 40% This is quite tougher than the White Dragon you fight earlier. It weak against Bolt, and eats Poison for lunch, so dont cast it. As you might expected, it hits quite harder than the last dragon. 1 hit from it deals over 1000 damage, and it also loves to cast Toxic level 16, which hits everybody for 100 damage. Only Defender sword and Ripper can damage it probably, so have Maria cast berserk on Firion and Gus. Now, cast Blink on Maria, as i believe she's the most important here. Have Maria keep casting Bolt (hopefully level 6). Level 6 Bolt can deal over 700 damage usually, and even more if Maria has lots of Intelligence. Other people keep attacking, hoping to get some critical strike. If your characters have more than 2500 HP, then this is not too hard. However, if you have less than that, you'll most likely have to spend time reviving people. Compare to the Thunder Gigas, this is actually a bit easier. Still have a Slumber Stalk? Try it on the boss, and pray that it works. However, even if it did, it wont last long, so use the time to do serious damage to it quickly. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ OK, after the fight, heal up, and go up the stairs. You have reached the Emperor's room. Go to the red carpet and face him. MEMO FILE if you wish, but i feel that the battle is not hard enough to worth that. First, you'll have to fight 2 Royal Guard. They're the weaker version of the Black Knight, and are not a big threat. After that you'll have to fight 4 of them. Again, they wont pose a problem, as they dont have much HP. The emperor then get pissed off and come to fight you himself. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ The Emperor
HP: 1290 MP: 190 Attack: 70 Accuracy: 80% Defence: 50 Evasion: 65% Magic Defence: 4 Magic Resistance: 40% This battle comes with 2 Royal Guard and a Wood Golem. Honestly, the strongest enemy here is the golem, and this battle somehow feel like a normal battle if the boss song didnt played. First, finish off the wood golem. If you have Fire level 6, you can finish off the golem in 2 rounds. After that, kill off the royal guards. It wont cost more than 2 rounds too. Now, the emperor. He has feeble attacks (about 50 damage XD), and he has some nice spells to show off, like Bolt level 11 and Barrier level 8. However, he has elixirs to use too, which completely recover his HP and MP. Well, since he has lame defence, he wont last long even if he use the elixirs. Defender can cut a hole in his body, being able to deal over 500 damage. Even Maria's bow work well enough, so just have everybody attack him and forget about any spells. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Note: If you lucky, you may get an Elixir from the battle, which is the most expensive item in the game. Well, after the dramatic death of the emperor, Fynn is at peace again....or it seems so. As you all celebrating, a soldier come and say that the Dark Knight, Leon, is claiming himself as the next emperor of the empire. Oops. Looks like the peace is far from over. Talk to Hilda and learn that the dark knight is in Paramecia. Memorise "Paramecia" and ask her about it. She says that the Paramecia is high on a mountain, and cannot be reached on foot. Ask Gordon about it too. He says that Pavel is boosting about entering the castle on his own. Exit the castle and pay a visit to him. Cid is there too, injured form the cyclone. Talk to him and he'll give you his airship before he dies. Now, ask Pavel about Paramecia, and he'll tell you that he once use a kite to fly himself in through the roof. He tell you that you can use the same way to enter, only with the airship instead of kite. Cid's airship is parked at Poft. You can use the ship to go there, or walk there. After getting the airship, you'll be able to roam anywhere on the world. After enjoying, go to Paramecia. You should remember where it is. It's just beside the Arena. Now, position your airship right on top of the roof, SAVE, and enter. Paramecia ========= Note: Sorry dude. Once your mind is made up, you cannot change it. You cannot Warp or Banish out of here once you're in. Hope you have a full pocket of ethers, because you'll likely to run out of MP often here. Now, the enemies here are somewhat crazy. Black Knights are roaming everywhere, and they still deal large damage. Generals are to be found more often here, and you probably experience their crazy damage the hard way already, but they also drop rare gears, including Diamond gears, Dragon Mail (resistant against elemental spells), and even Rune axe (the best axe in the game). Queen Lamia start to hunt you now, but they wont pose too much a threat anymore, unless they come with a pack of Lamias. Coeurl can put a special attack called Blaster, and will stun anybody that's too weak, then they'll just die like that when being hited by them, no matter how much HP they got. Stone Golem hits even harder than the wood one, and can cast Stop level 8, which can stun everybody. If you're unlucky, you'll run into a Fallen Emperor, which i admit is a lot harder than the live version. They hits much harder, have much more HP, and can cast spells like Doom level 8 and Curse level 8, AND they eat those for lunch if you cast back those on them. Hope you're well :) From the starting point, go up to the door. Go north a bit and you'll fall through a trap to 1F. On 1F, go down for a Diamond Plate. Give it to Maria. Go back and now go all the way right and then south. Go up the first stairs you see. Get the hourglass in the chest and banish or walk back. Now continue south and then west until you pass the stairs. Continue west and get a Garlic, then go back east and go up to the stairs. Go east on 2F, and go south to get a Knife. Go back up and keep going north until you see another chest holding a Buckler. Go west from here and follow the road until you can go up the stairs to 3F. This is a big room, but it's rather easy. Go north and go west over the wall. Go south and get the Thunder Spear inside a chest. You'll have to fight a Fallen Emperor. Give it to Gus. This is a powerful spear that can pierce through any enemies here. Go back north and go all the way east then south to the stairs. 4F is quite a big room with lots of small rooms. Follow the road north then go west until you come to the second junction. Go south for a Saint's Spirit. Go back and continue west. Get a Slumber Stalk. Go back east and take the north road when you can. When you cannot go any further, go west and follow the road south to a room. Enter it and take the 3 chests containing Mage's Staff, Spellbinder, and Healing Staff. Get out and go all the way back north then all the way east to the stairs. On 5F, go left a little and take the stairs you see. Follow the road and get the Sunblade in a chest. You'll have to fight Queen Lamia and other enemies first. This won't be too hard. Give the sword to Firion and pass the Defender to Gareth. Sunblade is extra-powerful against undeads. Now continue south, then east, following the road to another stairs. Now follow the road until you come to a room. Go in and get 3 elixirs in the 3 chests. Get out and go all the way back to 5F again. Now go east a little and follow the road south, west and north to 6F. Go around the stairs and go south until you reach the bottom. Now go east to the stairs to 7F. 7F is too easy. Just go north to another stairs. 8F is where Leon is sitting. Before we do anything else, we need to get more treasures first. Go south all the way and then go west, ignoring the red carpets. Now go north and you'll see 2 chests. You'll get Hellfire and Zephyr's Flute. Now go back and go through the red carpet. Before talking to Leon, take off everything Gareth is holding, as he'll leave your party. Now talk to him. Leon wants the empire, and he'll not let anyone stop him. Just as Leon prepare to fight, the emperor rise from hell. He wants to destroy the world, and just as they're surrounded, Gareth hold him off, using his wind drake to get your characters and Leon out. Out of Paramecia ````````````````````````````` Since the emperor has rised from the hell, Paramecia has been connected to hell, becoming Pandaemonium. Leon joins you to finish him once and for all. Leon's stat ++++++++++ Left Handed HP: 1098 MP: 5 Attack: 158 Accuracy: 9-99% Defence: 85 Evasion: 3-0% Magic Defence: 3-69% Strength: 53 Endurance: 46 Spirit: 16 Agility: 45 Intelligence: 36 Magic: 32 Axe skill level 9, Sword skill level 8, Spear skill level 7, Mace skill level 6, Dagger skill level 5, Bow skill level 4, Shield skill level 3, Bare Hand skill level 2 Right hand: Flame Sword Left hand: Venom Axe Head: Diamond Helm Body: Diamond Mail Hand: Diamond Gloves Leon is a strong fighter. He's best at axe and sword, and i highly recommend you let him use them. If you want him to use other weapons, he's quite good at spears and maces, but other skills are not that good. His intelligence is higher than his spirit, so he do better with black magics. However, not only he has low HP at this moment, his magic defence is very low, which means he is very vulnerable against strong spells. Train him first before going anywhere else. Talk to Hilda and she'll say the monsters are coming in from the Jade Passage. Memorise "Jade Passage" and ask her about it. She says that it's in Mysidia. Ask Gordon about it too, and he says that it's in a lake near Mysidia. Get out of the castle. Your airship is in front of Fynn. Ride the airship and go to Deist Castle. Go to the second floor and ask the mother about dragoons. They'll give you the Excalibur sword, since there's no more dragoons left. They leave after that. Give the sword to Firion, passing the Sunsword to Leon. Hopefully you got some diamond helms and gloves from the enemies in paramecia. They're the strongest gears for now. Give them to any characters. If anybody is using the Ribbon, keep it, as it gives protection against all sorts of spells. Sell anything extra and pack yourself with elixirs and ethers. Buy Leon any spells you wish, paticularly Cure, Life, Esuna, the elemental spells, and other spells you like. Train Leon up around Mysidia. Be careful of Lifesuckers, as they absorbs HP and MP, and put you in Amnesia. Pit Fiend eats fire spells for lunch, and can cast Stun level 16, which always works on someone unless he has Ribbon on his head. Other enemies are not that dangerous though. Now, when you're ready, both in fingers and characters, fly your airship east from mysidia and north a bit. You'll see a new lake at the edge of the land. Land the airship next to it, SAVE, and enter. Jade Passage ============ Note: Well, you're in the last dungeon. Hope you have TONS of elixirs saved up, because you wont survive the journey without them. Enemies here can only be describe in one word: INSANE. The most dangerous enemy here is probably Abyss Worm. They hit for over 1000 damage, and if 4 of them hits the same target, i'll be extremely surprise if that person survives (well, that means you have over 5000 HP). To make things the worst, they cast Twister, which hit everybody for 150 damage. Other enemies are bearable, unless they come in packs too. Great Malboro is famous here not because of the damage, but their effects after attack. If your magic defence is low like Leon, you'll be hited with all sorts of temporary status, like Sleep, Paralyze (yes, TOGETHER), Poison, Mini, Muddle, and Silence. Gazer can cast Gaze, which can stones someone, and other spells like Drain, Osmose and Slow. Maximus can cast Blaze level 16 like the Salamander, and Dispel level 8, plus they hits hard too. White and Green dragons are common here too, and you probably know how crazy they're already. The worst part is the 3 bosses here, which all of them are killers, especially to Leon. You need to get used to this place, because where this place is leading to to is even crazy. Good Luck.... From the warper, go south to enter B1. From the entrence, go south, enter the path and get a Hellfire. Go back north and then go east all the way. Get the Diamond Mace to the south. Go back again and now go southeast, ignoring the door. Go down to the bottom wall and go east, entering that door. Go down to B2. Ignore the door and go north. Get the Hellfire -again- at the top and go east. Get a Notus slightly to the south, then go south and west to the corner. Now, MEMO FILE, and open the chest. You'll get the Cat's Claw, and a nasty boss. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------ Blue Dragon HP: 3500 MP: 240 Attack: 180 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 150 Evasion: 75% Magic Defence: 8 Magic Resistance: 40% This dragon hits harder than even the Abyss Worm, loves to cast Thunderbolt level 16, and only the Excalibur can damage it probably (Rune Axe can too if you have it). It weak against Poison, and eats Bolt spells for lunch. 1 hit from this dragon can deal anybody about 1500 damage, even with diamond gears on. Cast Shield and Blink on Maria, as she is important. Have Firion and Gus attack, and have Maria cast berserk on them. After that she needs to cast Poison. Leon will be 1-hited mostly, but keep him alive and kicking. You should have about 3000 HP now, enough to survive 2 hits (when i play, Gus have 3600 HP by now, and Firion about 3000). If not, this battle will be real hard. When needed, have Firion cure the injured. Firion should have Cure level 10 now at least, so he could cure about 800 damage. If you have Poison level 6, Shield and Blink level 6, and Berserk level 6, this battle is not hard at all. If you don't, this is a tough battle. Dont use too much elixirs now, as you have more bosses later. ----------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- Heal up with Cure, use some ethers, and give the claw to Gus. Go east from there, enter the path, then go north to the door. Go down. B3 is easy. Just follow the road, ignoring all doors. Keep going zig-zag around the waterfall until you see a chest. Go up, MEMO FILE, and open it. It holds the respectable Rune Axe, and the second boss. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- King Bahemoth HP: 5000 MP: 0 Attack: 150 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 120 Evasion: 50% Magic Defence: 8 Magic Resistance: 30% This guy hits SLIGHTLY less damage than the last dragon, has SLIGHTLY less defence, however he also has MUCH more HP, has NO weakness to take advantage of, and the worst of all, he don't use magic. This means that he'll be just like a Thunder Gigas who keeps attacking. Each hit deals about 1000 damage, and he'll keep doing it, no matter you like it or not. So it means that Shield and Blink is essential here. Have Maria cast berserk on Firion and Gus, then she'll cast Flare (hopefully level 6). Flare level 6 deals about 300 damage with high intelligence, but it takes a lot of work to get it to level 6. Have Firion cure Cure on the wounded, then attack. A berserked Excalibur can deal over 500 damage, so hopefully this battle wont last too long. Focus mainly on keep hurting it instead of casting spells, as you want the battle to over quickly. He's quite resistance against spells, so i prefer attacks more. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- I hope you're still ok as the hard part isn't over yet. Give the axe to Leon and continue the road until you reach the bottom of the waterfall. Go INSIDE the waterfall and press X. There's a secret shop there, selling rare spells like berserk, haste and even flare. They're really expensive though. Continue east and you'll see 3 doors. Use the rightmost one to B4. This is a huge room, but it should be easy. Go east a little, then go north to get a Backstabber. Go north to the top, then go east. You'll see a door at the top. Go in and get the 3 chests, which are Holy Lance, Aegis Shield, and Dragon Mail. Give the mail to Gus, give the lance to Gus too, and get out. Continue east until you see another chest. MEMO FILE before you open it. It holds a Yoichi's Bow, and it's guardian. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Red Dragon HP: 5000 MP: 450 Attack: 180 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 180 Evasion: 75% Magic Defence: 8 Magic Resistance: 40% OK guys, start to get REALLY serious. This dragon is the hardest of any dragons you faced so far. Even the excalibur and rune axe can hardly deal damage now, as his defence is REAL high. His HP is higher than the blue version, so expect a long battle. As you notice, this dragon cast Blaze level 16, so it means that it eats fire spells for lunch, and weak against Ice. You should have a Notus earlier, so use it on this boss. It deals over 400 damage, which is quite a bit. Have Maria cast berserk on Firion and Gus, then keep casting Ice (hope you got it at level 6). Others keep attacking, with Firion curing too. Shield and Blink are a MUST here. Now, every hit from this boss deals over 1500 damage, but fortunately, it loves his spell a bit more than his attacks. Even with berserk level 6, the excalibur can only deals about 800 damage most, with sword level 10. So the most effective weapon is still the Ice spell. Ice level 6, with high Intelligence, should do over 1000 damage. Now you can use elixirs freely, as we'll be going out after this. As long as everyone has enough HP to withstand 2 hits, and with Ice level 6, this battle is still not too hard. Just be careful not to let Maria die. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Give the bow to Maria. Note: Now you can warp out and restock, as you finished all 3 bosses in the Jade Passage. The next place is really much harder than here, so pack lots of elixirs and ethers. Go south from the chest and you'll see a door to the right. Go in and down the stairs. B5 is really easy. Just follow the path, ignoring any doors. You'll get 2 High potions and a protect ring on the way. Go in the door at the end and down the stairs. B6 is the same. Just follow the road until you see a banisher. Use the banisher to go to the next place. Pandaemonium ============ Note: This place holds some of the most murderous enemies in the game. Mythril Golem hits really hard, and he has no weakness unlike the weaker versions. You'll also meet Queen Lamia and Coeurl very often. Blood Fiend is the mage version Gotoos, and they has quite some spells to show off. But none of the enemies can compete with the craziest and perhaps the most murderous enemy here, the Death Knight. 1 hit from them deals over 3000 damage, which means almost die instantly. I once seen a death knight put out a nice critical strike to Gus, dealing about 4800 damage. The only good thing about them is that they only have 1300 HP and weak against Fire spells, so put them the first target to kill in any battle. Hope you're still well :) From the starting point, go south, following the path to the bottom. Go east to the end and then go north. You'll go up a stairs. Now go west a little and go down. Follow the path west and then north, up another stairs. Go west and then go south. Now go east and north to the stairs. 2F here. Go south from the stairs, and follow the path west and north. Get the ether at the top and go back down at another path (you'll go down a small stairs). Follow the road until you see a banisher at the top. Use it. 3F is quite a large room, so be careful not to get lost. Go south from the starting point, then follow the road east until you can get to a chest. Take the Eye drop and go back to the starting point. Now go north and then east. Go south when you can, and you'll see a dead end below you. Go in the dead end and press in. There's a secret hole there that can shorten your journey a bit. Go south and use the banisher. 4F holds some new enemies like Fenrir. From here you'll meet Iron Giant if you're unlucky, which is a random boss. I'll give a strategy guide here, incase you're most unfortunate. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Iron Giant HP: 3500 MP: 240 Attack: 180 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 180 Evasion: 0% Magic Defence: 14 Magic Resistance: 100% Fighting this guy is like fighting a Red Dragon who runs out of mana. Hope you're not too wounded when you met him :) The first thing you'll notice is that he LOVES attacking. He can cast spells, but he prefers attacks rather than spells. So you'll need to cast Shield and Blink on important characters. Cast those on Gus and Firion this time, because they're the most important now. Maria will cast berserk on them. There's no need to cast any spells on it because he's REALLY resistant to most spells, and even though it weaks against Bolt and Ice, you wont be able to do much damage either, so this is quite a physical attack battle. 1 hit from it deals over 2000 damage mostly, so prepare to heal. Have everybody attack otherwise, hurting him as much as possible. It has less HP than most boss you meet recently, so this battle wont last too long. This is quite a good training for me, because the bosses later is much harder... As long as you keep everybody healthy and no one dies, this battle is no harder than the Red Dragon. I found that this battle wont require you to take advantage of it's weakness, and i dont even know it has weakness until fight it a few times. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Note: There're rumors that Iron Giant occasionally drops Genji gears, or even Excaliburs. I once get a Genji Helm from it, but never get Excalibur before. Try your luck :) From the staring point, go north and you'll immediately notice doors. There're 4 doors here, each with a boss to fight. We start by going to the leftmost door. Go in and follow the road, going through archways, and soon you'll come to a junction. Go through the left path first. Go north and MEMO FILE. Open the chest for a Genji Gloves, and a boss. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Zombie Borghan HP: 2500 MP: 370 Attack: 120 Accuracy: 95% Defence: 120 Evasion: 60% Magic Defence: 10 Magic Resistance: 100% Well, you should remember him back then, when he set out a boulder to kill Josef. Now is the time to revenge. Yes, he's definitely stronger than before, but if you compare this to the Iron Giant or even the Blue Dragon, this is quite easy. He can deal about 500 damage, but at this stage this is a small damage. He also has Flare level 16, which hits a character for about 900 damage. This is his strongest attack (shame). I'm quite sure you now have a lot of experience from fighting tough bosses, so i no need to guide you through this easy one :) The strategy is easy: Just attack. Have everybody spam him, forget about spells. I wont be surprise even if you win him in only 2 rounds. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Give the glove to Maria, then go back a little to the junction. Now use the right path, following the long road until you come to a dead end...or it seem so. Search for a secret hole at the right wall just below the pillars, and you'll come to a tiny room. This tiny room holds lots of battles against the pervious bosses, like Barrel Worm, Ice, Fire, and Thunder gigas, Blue and Red dragons, and more. Just get the Masamune, give it to Firion, passing the Excalibur to Leon, and get out. Banish back to 4F. Now use the door to the right of the one you just enter. Again, follow the road until you come to another chest. MEMO FILE, heal up if needed, and open it. It holds the Genji Helm, and another boss. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Tiamat HP: 5000 MP: 450 Attack: 150 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 180 Evasion: 80% Magic Defence: 8 Magic Resistance: 70% 1 look of this boss tells me that this is the leader of the 4 dragons. This means that it can cast all 4 spells of them (Blaze 16, Thunderbolt 16, Icestorm 16, and Toxic 16), and it also means that it eats elemental spells for lunch, so dont cast those. 1 hit from it deals about 1000 damage, the same as the Abyss Worm. The tough thing is it's defence. Without berserk, only masamune can damage it probably. So berserk is the most important here. Shield and Blink is not that important, as it loves spells instead of attacks. I even have everybody attack and still win this battle, so this battle is not that hard. You may think that this boss has no weakness to play with, but you're wrong if you think like this. This boss HAS a weakness: STUN. If you have Stun at level 6, you can play around with it, because it almost always works. Stop at level 6 works too. I personally dont think it's necessary though. Have everybody healthy and kicking and this battle is not too hard. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Give the helm to Firion, and banish back to 4F. Now use the rightmost door. Go in and just follow the road north until another chest. MEMO FILE and open it. It contains the Genji Armor, and yet another boss. ----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------- Beelzebub HP: 5000 MP: 450 Attack: 150 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 180 Evasion: 80% Magic Defence: 8 Magic Resistance: 70% Well, this guy has the same stat as Tiamat, but he has no weakness. Again, this should not be harder than Tiamat, as he has the same attacks and same HP. This guy has quite some spells to show off, like Stun 16, Dispel 16, Muddle 16, Doom 16 and of course, Flare 16. He loves to cast those instead of attack, but Stun is dangerous, because it works a lot better than other spells. Cast Shell and Wall instead of other spells. Maria needs to cast berserk. Others keep attacking. You may need to cast Barrier too to lessen the chance of those spells to work. This guy eats fire spells for lunch, so dont cast it. Instead, cast other kind of spells if you want. This battle should not be longer than when you fight Tiamat. Have fun... ----------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- Give the armor to Gus, passing the dragon one to Firion. Banish back to 4F. Now go in the last door to the left of the rightmost one you just enter. Follow the road until you see a chest. MEMO FILE, heal up if needed, prepare your fingers, calm down, and open it. It holds a Ribbon, and perhaps the craziest boss in the game. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Astaroth HP: 7000 MP: 540 Attack: 150 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 180 Evasion: 80% Magic Defence: 8 Magic Resistance: 70% Well, if you can defeat this boss, you most certainly can defeat the final one itself. I'm not sure if i get the name of this boss right, because i myself is so nervous that i didnt concentrate on the name too much. This whacko hits over 3000 damage, and the worst of all is it'll heal itself every attack, like the undeads. Fortunately it prefers casting spells like Curse 16, Blind 16, Doom 16, Stun 16, Fire 16, Drain 16 and of course, Flare 16. Shield is quite useless, so have Blink on Firion and Gus. Maria cast berserk on them. Masamune, with berserk level 6, should deal over 1000 damage. Holy lance and Rune Axe can deal about 500 damage too. I highly advice against Osmose here, because you dont want it to keep attacking and heal itself. Instead, keep everybody alive and quickly revive the dead. Have your elixirs ready, and use it to recover fully. 1 slash to Leon will probably kill him, so just revive it and dont bother about curing. As it has a lot of HP, expect this battle to be very long. Hope you have about 5000 HP, as anything less than that will be 1-hited. Dont rush in this battle, as it can heal itself, and all the hard work you being doing is wasted. Berserk is the key in this battle, as it enables you to do large damage, and finish the battle quicker. Keeping everybody alive has other uses. It let the boss choose it's victim, because this boss doesn't have a spell that hits everybody, even the Drain is focused on 1 person. So that means it cant kill everybody at once, and with patient, this battle will eventually be over. If you're defeated (which i will not be surprise as nobody can win this the first time), just try again. Replan your move and study it's behavior, like it's favorite spells to use and how often it attacks, so that it gives you a better chance to win. Good Luck!!! PS: When i play for the first time, it takes me 5 times retry to win... ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Heal up, and give the Ribbon to Maria (if she already have it, give it to Leon). Continue by going west, and follow the road until the banisher at the top. Use it. You're back on 4F, but on different place. Just follow the road north and then east. You'll see another banisher. Use it. You're now on 7F. just follow the road, getting a Sage's Wisdom on the way. You'll see the banisher at the bottom left of this floor. Use it. 8F is quite easy. Go east, go up the stairs, continue east and then south, going down another stairs, and go east until the end. Follow the road south to get a Hellfire. Go left a bit and go up the stairs. Go west and then north, up another stairs, and go east at the junction. Follow the road up the stairs, and you'll see the banisher. Dont use it yet. Go left and keep going along the path to get an Acid Bottle. Go back to the banisher and use it. 9F is an open room. Just go south all the way, then go west. You'll reach another banisher. Use it. OK, ready for the final battle of the game. Heal up, MEMO FILE, and go north to meet the boss. He'll talk crap before facing you. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- Emperor HP: 10000 MP: 540 Attack: 180 Accuracy: 100% Defence: 210 Evasion: 80% Magic Defence: 16 Magic Resistance: 70% I have take the boss stats from the Cyril's guide, because i dont know that myself. However, stat is not important here. The thing is this will be the hardest battle in the game. That alone will do. 1 hit from this guy can deal over 4000 damage, and he'll heal himself at the same time, but you'll hardly see him attacks. You'll most likely see him cast powerful spells to play with you. So Shell and Wall is essential here. Barrier is another important spell. The boss has a lot of spells to show off, like Curse 16, Blind 16, Slow 16, Dispel 16 and the usual Flare 16. No elemental spells going to work well on him, so just sticks to your non-elemental ones. Even masamune can only deal about 300 damage with sword skill level 12, without berserk. Holy and Flare works really well, if you have it at level 6. They deal about 200 damage mostly. Have Maria keep casting Flare, Firion and Gus keep attacking, and Leon can either attack or heal people with elixirs if someone is wounded. As you'll notice, this boss has a special attack. It's call Starfall. It deals about 350 damage to everybody. As you damage him, he'll use this often, so prepare to heal. Again, berserk is very important here, as it enables you to damage him probably. If you have Haste level 6, cast it to the fighters too. As his magic defence is so high, spells like stun, blind, curse, and slow is useless on him. Just focus on attacks and non-elemental spells. Fully using your elixirs and use it if somebody is close to death. The hard part is that he cast Curse or Blind on your fighters like Gus and Firion. Hope you have Esuna at level 6 to cure these. Counter slow with haste. Keep everybody alive and has HP to survive the boss's spells is important. Hopefully, he'll be defeated before you know it. If you're defeated, which is very likely if you're the first timer, just retry. I forgot how many times i retry before beating him the first time, but back then i forgot to get the Masamune, so it makes the battle much harder. Let me tell you, it's POSSIBLE to win without masamune, but it needs skills, strategies, and patients, as Excalibur wont deal more than 150 damage to him usually. Because i play for the first time back then, I also dont have much spells except Cure, so i relay on attacks. Luckily, the boss didnt even attack once. This battle is partly luck, and if you're lucky, he wont attacks. Hope you're well... ----------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- When you finally beat him, relax your fingers, and watch the dramatic death of the emperor. They go back to Fynn, where they're welcomed like heroes. Leon decided to leave the place, because he feels that the past cannot be changed. Anyway, the world is really at peace now, thanks to you. Congratulation on beating the game!!! 8. Credits First, i want to give a big thanks for Cyril's guide (Stephanie Nutter), as it's the guide that urges me to make one myself. I sometimes refer to the guide mainly for item pickups, weapons and armor stats, because i dont remember every pickup in this game. As for the boss stats, i refer to the game's bestiary, except the final boss. That guide also help me in Mysidia Cavern, as i really dont know how to put it in words, and that place is so messed up. Thanks!!!! Another thanks for my PS for letting me play the game. Special thanks for all my MP3s and WMAs in my PC, as they prevent me from getting bored. Lastly, thanks to the editor of this game for making such an old game more enjoyable. Of course, thanks to the reader for reading my guide!!!!! Copyright 2007 Alex Chong Wai Hon, aka. Misfiring
