Controls Using the default setting for the PS2 controller: D-pad - is only used to highlight options in menus. There is no function in gameplay. L1 - When pressed and held, this puts your character into a defensive position. You can still be hit from behind, otherwise you will "block" moves. If you're using a weapon, it can shatter, if not, weapons will still damage you slightly. When the combo symbol (located beneath your health jewel) pulses, pressing L1 rapidly will perform a combo block. You will receive a 10% health boost for a successful combo block and your weapon will receive no damage. You can combo block weapons or fist combos when you're unarmed, but you can only combo block weapons if there's a weapon in your hand. R1 - When outside of combat, R1 is a jump button. At any point during the jump, R1 can be pressed again for an extra flip. After the flip, if R1 is held, the character will glide for as long as R1 is pressed. During combat R1 will often flip or roll your character out of danger. R1 will also flip you up onto a ledge you are hanging from. L2 - Will grab an opponent for a special move. Oftentimes your opponents will break away, but otherwise you will have a few seconds to input a special moves command. R2 - While moving in any direction, pressing R2 will allow your character to sprint for a short distance after which the character will slow down to normal speed. There is no limit to how often a character can sprint. If the character is near certain walls, they will often run up the wall performing a "wall run." L3 Analog - Moves your character in any direction. Characters can walk, run, or jog depending on how far you move the control. Pressing down on L3 is the action command. This will allow you to pick up items, open doors, and talk to other characters. L3 will also make your character fall from a hanging position when pressed. R3 Analog - Manual control of the camera. Use it to zoom in and out (up and down, respectively) or to pan right and left. Pressing down on R3 moves the camera to a neutral location. Note: there are points in the game where the camera is "set" and cannot be altered. This happens mostly near walls and in corners. Square - Light hand to hand attack. This will also put your weapon away. Triangle - Fierce hand to hand attack. This will also put your weapon away. X - Light weapon attack. This will also draw your weapon. Note: if you do not have a weapon in your character's possession, this button does nothing. Circle - Heavy weapon attack. This will also draw your weapon. Note: if you do not have a weapon in your character's possession, this button does nothing. Select - Uses the smallest healing salve in your inventory Start - Pauses the game and brings up the menu. V. General Information My walkthrough assumes you leave each section by going through the door flanked by blue torches every time unless told otherwise. Also, weapons you pick up from enemies carry over from section to section, so if you grab a sabre, your starting weapon for the next section will be that sabre. My starting weapon indicator is the default weapon. Weapons do not carry over scene changes. Film clips are earned from regular gameplay. Get an A overall ranking for a scene, and earn a film clip. If you fail to get an A, don't panic. When you complete the game, you can save your completed data which will allow you to restart the game with all of your experience and (if you found them) several special items. 3 film clips become available from beating Lo's story. Special Moves can only be done after you successfully grab an opponent. I'll repeat that since I've seen this question on so many different message boards. Special Moves can only be done after you successfully grab an opponent. Earn new special moves by leveling up your unarmed and weapon skills. Which skills you earn does depend on which skill you level up. In other words, if you level up your unarmed skill, you can learn a new unarmed combo. Enemies get easier to grab as their health goes down, but that's never a guarantee that they won't throw you off right away. Also, just because your opponent throws you off once, doesn't necessarily mean they'll throw you off quickly every time. If they are barely clinging to life, keep trying to grab them and perform a combo. It's worth it for the bonus experience. Wall running can only be done on certain levels and certain walls. I haven't figured out how to discern a runnable wall just by looking, but a simple test will let you know. Get a short distance from the wall and sprint at it. If your character runs up and backflips off, then it's a good one. Next align yourself next to the wall, and sprint along beside it. Steer your character against the wall, and viola, you should have a nice wall run going. Wall running is really pointless other than just to look good. Occasionally you'll wall run without intending to, but that should be rare if you don't sprint everywhere like I do. Boss type battles which usually involve you fighting a main character (Jen, Lo, Shu Lien, Jade Fox, Li Mu Bai, and maybe Bo), have a little extra bonus. They regenerate their health. They all seem to have a constant slow regeneration, and several of them will jump up their health at key points. I guess they have healing salves, too. Multiple level fighting surfaces seem to really hinder your character, but not your enemies so much. When fighting on stairs, sloped roofs, or even slight hills, I seem to miss a lot more while my enemy wails away on me. Another drawback is that grabbing seems pretty ineffectual unless your feet are the exact same hieght. Update: upon further experimentation, every time I grabbed an enemy who happened to be fighting on a slope or stair, they threw me off 99% of the time. The same enemy was easily grabbed when I lured them to a flat surface. Even the slightest change in elevation seemed to affect it. For example, in the dojo, the center of the floor is slightly recessed from the area around it. This slight change was enough to trigger the characters to throw me off. My guess: it's just a programmer's measure to avoid awkward animations during combos. There is a maximum level for each character's fighting prowess. Jen's skills top off at level 30 (max HP of 596), Shu Lien's at 35 (max HP of 651), and Li Mu Bai grinds up to 40 (max HP of 740). After the maximum level has been reached, no more experience can be added to that stat. So, if you've peaked out your Weapon Skill Level, put away the blade and let the fists and feet fly. Otherwise, you're just wasting experience. If a character is carrying an axe or spear type weapon, that charcter will be limited in several ways. First, your character will not sprint. Second, your character will not flip during a jump and also will not glide. Third, your character will not evade enemy combos when pressing R1. To do any of these things, press Square or Triangle to put your weapon away. Double tapping for a jump isn't necessarily the best way to go. I have much better luck waiting for my character to reach the apex of his/her jump before adding the flip and then gliding. That is the best for distance. For height, however, you want to add the flip just before the apex of the jump. That tends to make your character jump a little higher. Scenes will not end if you happen to be hanging from something. If this is the case, merely flip up or drop down to allow the scene to end. If you have taken a lot of damage in a fight, get down to one opponent and let him go to town on you. Keep your back to a wall or corner if possible, and combo block every attempt he makes. You get 10% of your health back with every successful combo block. Be careful who you choose for last, however. I still seem to have a hard time successfully combo blocking spear type weapons. I can do it, just not consistently. So I'll make sure an axe or sword type opponent is last. As scenes progress, the unarmed men who throw knives will gain an extra ability which allows them to poison you when they hit you with a knife. This poison can be cured with an antidote or restore, or it will wear off after a little bit of time. I usually just wait it out, but if you want to cure it, open your menu with the start button, select items, select the antidote (or restore) and press X to use it. VI. Walkthrough Jen Scene 1 Sir Te's Residence Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 7 Small Health Salves (2 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Medium Health Salve Enemies: 6 Unarmed Men 2 Men with Swords As the scene opens, five enemies are rushing Jen including two swordsmen who will take positions flanking a doorway behind Jen. Of the three unarmed men, the one on the right is holding a small healing salve for you. Either beat him down now and get the salve or explore the level to get the seven others. The first small healing salve is on the Northermost building's roof (use the map feature). From there, run off the western side of the building to find two more small salves (one is in a jar). On the other side of the same building is another small salve hidden in a jar. On the roof of the northeast building is a medium healing salve. The northwest building's roof has another small salve. The sixth small salve is located on the roof over the southernmost door and the last one is on the ground in the southeast corner. After collecting all eight salves, find the two swordsmen guarding the door. Defeat the one on the left for another small salve. If you haven't gotten the other small salve from the unarmed man, leave the swordsman on the right for last; otherwise destroy all with impunity. As soon as the last enemy drops, a cut scene begins and when it ends, you'll be in a new location. That's why you need to collect everything before beating everybody. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small healing salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 2 Medium healing salves 1 Large healing salves Enemies: 2 Unarmed men 1 Man with a Cudgel Take down the fighters and enjoy your first free time in the game. Don't miss the small healing salve that the man with the cudgel drops. Now, there are a couple of hard to get to areas which will help hone your skills, and net you some healing salves. The first small salve is on the roof over the doorway to the north. From there, check out the tall tower to the left. We're going to climb it. Getting on the first tier should be easy. Climb this tower by jumping up from one level to the next. This involves jumping out, away from the tower, without bumping your head and flipping up to the next level. Get all the way to the top and look around with the R3 analog. You should see an otherwise inaccessible tower that Jen can glide to which has a large healing salve for you. If you missed the top of the tower, find the ladder and climb up. From the landing, jump onto one of the short walls on either side. One of those should give you the height you need to make it to the top. Now, jump back over the wall and jump onto the roof of the adjacent row of buildings (on the left side of the map). On the lower section of the first building's roof is a medium healing salve. Now run south on the rooftops until you reach the last one. Use the analog to look left. You should see a large structure spanning the ground below. Look to the left side of the structure to find a pole jutting out from the side. Line up a jump with the pole. Walk to the edge of the rooftop and jump, flip, and glide to the pole. If you did it right, she'll grab on, swing herself around, and launch herself to the other side. Once while I was playing Li Mu Bai, he swung himself around but missed the roof. He made it on the next try, so if you miss, try again. There is a small area with a building in it which is otherwise inaccessible. That roof bears another medium healing salve. A nearby ladder will get you back on the roofs, but don't jump down just yet. Instead, run down the row of rooftops to collect another small healing salve. The last small healing salve is located in the southwest corner of the map. Make your way to the southernmost building and get on the higher roof. The last salve will be right in front of you. Now that you have your fill, make your way back to the northeast corner of the map and enter the door flanked by the two blue torches. Back Alley Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: 3 Men with Swords 1 Man with a Spear 2 Men with Cudgels 6 Unarmed Men Bo Meet Bo. A minor character in the movie, and guess what? A minor character in the game. Feel bad for Bo. For those who don't know/remember, Bo is the one in black with a Cudgel. He'll hide behind other characters and he enjoys hitting you when your back is turned as you finish a combo. He has more life than the flunkies you've been fighting so far, but he shouldn't be a real threat. After the battle, you'll receive a message that you picked up the Governor's Key. Feel free to grab any healing salves you may need. There is a small salve in the larger gap of the southern buildings. You may need to smash the wagon to see it. Another small salve lies in the southeastern corner and a medium salve lies in the northeastern corner. The three jars behind the northwest building hold two small salves and another medium salve. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 1 Medium Healing Salve dropped by an opponent. Enemies: 6 Men with Swords 1 Man with a Cudgel 1 Man with a Sabre This screen starts with two men with swords and the man with the cudgel bearing down on Jen. As they are defeated, the southern door will release two more men with swords and one man with a sabre. The man with a sabre will drop a medium healing salve upon his defeat. After these foes are beaten, finish by defeating the two guards flanking the southwest door. If you missed or skipped any salves from your first vists here, feel free to grab them now. Governor's Mansion Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: Inspector His Daughter This is a fake-out battle. You just have to do enough damage to be taken to a cut-scene and then to the next area. So, explore and grab any salves you need before you start fighting. There is a small salve on the roof to the northwest and another in the southeast corner. Next go under the archway to the outer area. There is a medium salve in the large pot in the northeast corner and a small salve in the small pot in the southeast corner. Northern Gateway: Items: 3 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Discipline 1 Phoenix Essence Jing Seed Enemies: 6 Men with Swords 5 Men with Cudgels 4 Unarmed Men (Rooftops) 1 Man with a Sabre Begin this section by fighting two men with swords and one man with a cudgel. There are three sets of this grouping, so be prepared to battle. The third swordsman out will drop a small healing salve. There are two more small salves in the northwest and northeast corners. Wall jump to the rooftops. If you're having trouble getting up there, find the ladder on the southern side of the second row of buildings. Finish off both of the unarmed men and make your way on the roofs to the southwest until you find the large stack of crates. Drop down and smash two crates. Just two...for now. Run around the building to the north for another small healing salve. Now return to the rooftops either by wall jumping or backtracking to the ladder. Return to the southwest section and jump onto the stack of crates. From this stack, jump up to the tower and claim the Jing Seed. There is nothing to do with the Jing Seed for now, so pocket it and forget about it. Jump down and smash the rest of the crates for Discipline. Now travel south and get the guys on the roofs, drop off northern side for cudgel, smash boxes, fight, fight again, collect, done. Southern Gateway Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 6 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 3 Medium Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Large Healing Salve Enemies: 5 Men with Swords 8 Men with Spears 4 Unarmed Men (Rooftops) 1 Man with a Glaive Like the last level, this scene begins with three attackers. Two men with spears and one man with a sword begin the conflict, and like the last level there are three sets of this grouping. Now take to the roofs and claim the small salve on the roof of the northeast building and another small salve on the eastern side of the rooftop of the building directly south of the entrance. If you're still not comfortable wall jumping, follow the ground path southeast, west, and south. The path continues east, but look around with the R3 analog to find lights hanging off of poles jutting out of the buildings. Jump up to these poles and Jen should swing from one to the other until she lands on the rooftop to the east. To the south of that eastern rooftop are large wooden scaffolds. A small healing salve rest on top of one and another rests on the ground behind it. Run west and then south along the ground until you find another set of scaffolds. Another small healing salve rests behind this scaffold and another one lies on the ground to the east. Return to the scaffold and run up the stairs. An easier wall jump will land you on the taller section. Jump and glide to the lower scaffold to the southwest. Look for more poles which Jen can swing on to take her to the eastern rooftop. Now follow the rooftops around north and west to get to a tower with a large and medium healing salve on it. Drop down into the last southern area and get ready to scrap. Two men with swords, two men with spears, and one man with a glaive drop from the skies. One of the spearmen will drop a medium healing salve upon his defeat. Finish everyone off and climb the towers for two more medium healing salves. Courtyard Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 4 Unarmed Men (Rooftops) Shu Lien Okay, so they're not on the rooftops per se. You do need to get up there, though. Two methods I've found so far. 1) Go to either corner that is behind Jen when the level starts. You'll notice that the walls are very close together here. You can wall jump back and forth to get to the upper section. 2) Notice the doors to Jen's left and right when the level starts. There is a small overhang which Jen can land on and use to jump and flip up to the upper section. Feel free to use either method. Beating the northwestern guy will net you a small healing salve. Four more salves are located on the northern and southern landings of the upper level. After the men are defeated, Shu Lien will show up and another fight begins. This is a bit tougher. Shu Lien has some nasty combos with that blade of hers, and she blocks like a fiend. The good news is: you can break her blade. The bad news is: she's just as devastating with her unarmed combos. She still blocks like a fiend, but at least she takes small damage when she blocks. The combo I particularly liked to use on her was light, light, light, and grab. After three light hits, she'll be stunned for a second. Use that time to move in and grab her and perform a combo move. The other technique I used was to run near her and then away again. This would leave my back to her. The AI senses this and usually will start an attack combo. Turn around and beat her down. Swords have a longer reach than fists, and you can't block while you're attacking. She might get you a few times with some of her lunging moves, but you should nail her more often. After you finish off Shu Lien, you are awarded a Bonus Continue and scene one ends. Congratulations on the first assault. Save your game if you like and continue on to scene two. Jen Scene 2 Governor's Mansion Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: None The salves in this section are in the same locations as your first visit here, when you fought the inspector and his daughter. Since this is a new scene, all the salves have returned. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves 1 Large Healing Salve 1 Discipline Enemies: None All salves from your previous visits here have been respawned. The only difference is on the tower where the large healing salve resides, a discipline has joined it. Sir Te's Residence Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 7 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: Li Mu Bai Farewell for now, Green Destiny, we will meet again. All the salves are back, so collect any you may need before facing Li Mu Bai. To advance to the next section, you need to perform two successful combo blocks. Li Mu Bai doesn't try to fool you by running around or anything. He just advances and attacks. Rapidly hit the L1 button and you should get through. After the second successful combo block, a bonus continue is awarded, and a cut scene begins. When the cut scene ends, Jen will be in another area. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 1 Small Healing Salve dropped by an opponent Enemies: 3 Unarmed Men 2 Men with Spears Drop the three unarmed men coming from the east, and then tackle the two men with spears to the south. The spearman on the right will drop a small healing salve when he is defeated. After the fray, collect any salves you may have missed/skipped and move on to a new area. Temple Stairway Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Discipline Tiger's Claw Enemies: 11 Men with Swords 8 Men with Spears 1 Man with a Sabre This scene can change slightly depending on how you tackle it. Two men with swords and two men with spears are on the stairway in front of Jen. As you defeat them, more enemies will emerge. If you are high up on the stairs, they will begin to emerge from the top doorway. If you are low on the stairs or on the ground, they will emerge from the southern door. So, beat all the enemies when and where you find them. I tended to lure my opponents to the landings or to the ground to fight because I had a terrible time of missing while fighting on the stairs. So, fight everyone you see until you beat the man with the sabre at the top of the stairs. If the torches don't ignite, that means there is one or more opponents waiting for you at the bottom of the stairs. After finishing all the foes, collect any healing salves you need. There a small one on the ground at the bottom of the stairs, and a medium salve behind the sign. Smash the three statues and a discipline will drop down. The rest of the healing salves are on the landings, but some are in jars. Now for an exercise in frustration. Return to the area where you smashed the statues, and jump up on the pedestal closest to the stairs. Now jump and flip and try to grab the ledge of the archway. It's difficult, but it can be done. Keep trying. It can take me a few minutes of trying to get up there, but I always make it in the end. Anyway, flip up onto the overhang and make your way to the other side. There is the Tiger's Claw. (An alternate way to reach the Tiger's Claw as provided by tjm113 from the GameFAQ boards: "jump from the step where the light stops"! Thanks!) Collect it once and never lose it again. This item increases Jen's Attack rating making her a more efficient killing machine. Huzzah! Temple Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Phoenix Essence 1 Discipline Enemies: Li Mu Bai This is another combo blocking test, but you need to do it four times to pass this trial. First, however, run around to collect any goodies you might want. The western statue houses a discipline, the northwest corner hides a phoenix essence, and the southeast and southwest corners each have a small healing salve. Now you're ready for your combo blocking. Just like before, Li Mu Bai doesn't try any tricks to get around your block, so just face him and quickly tap L1 when the combo block starts. Good luck. Combo blocking is a good skill to have, so if you're not getting the feel for it, use up a continue or two practicing here. As you finish the fourth combo block, a cut scene begins and scene two ends. Save your game. Jen Scene 3 Desert Camp Starting Weapon: None Items: 6 Small Healing Salves 3 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: Lo 6 Men with Falchions 2 Men with Axes 2 Men with Glaives 1 Man with a Sabre This section has two parts. The first is beat Lo and the second is to chase him. As things begin Lo comes charging at you and Jen must perform three special moves to advance. Remember that you have to grab an opponent to do a special move. I personally liked the combo of light, light, light, and grab. Also remember that you have no weapon, so the X and Circle buttons do nothing right now. After you grab Lo, you can perform the same combo three separate times or perform three different combos. It's all up to you. An alternate way to beat Lo is to trick him. As soon as you gain control of Jen, run to her left to find a the edge of the cliff and a small gap. Simply jump over this gap to the other side to make Lo fall. If he follows you, jump again. Repeat as needed. If Lo falls, the second part starts automatically. A third method of beating Lo involves getting his back to any edge and performing the light, light, fierce combo which will launch him off. Dirty tricks, but they work. After defeating Lo, two men with falchions and two men with axes fall from the sky. As you defeat them, two more flachion bearing bandits will join the battle. After defeating them all, press the L3 analog to pick up any weapon you choose. For quick exploring, the northwest corner has two boxes which hold a medium salve each. In the southwest corner, a small salve lies behind the hut. Finally, in the northeast corner, a small salve lies on the ground. Now climb the east side of the northeast wall. You can chase Lo here from the beginning of the second part and skip the six enemies if you wish. Look for broken bridge. You can't cross by running and jumping. The secret in crossing lies in the rope on the right side of the bridge. Jump up and glide and steer Jen to this rope. Watch your angles, Jen has to face the rope or she won't grab it. Once you have it, hand over hand all the way down and Jen'll drop off on the other side. Now run (carefully!) around the next sharp turn and find another gap. This one is large and requires a jump, flip, and glide to cross. Remember to jump forward when you do this, because if you jump straight up, and then flip and glide, you won't make it. The next set of jumps are easier, but be careful not to overdo it and go careening off the edge. After those jumps you should see a bridge and Lo standing on the other side of it. This bridge crumbles as you cross it, so keep moving. If you want/need the small healing salve on the bridge, line up with it before you start to cross and make sure you don't fall off the bridge. As you get near, Lo jumps down and runs off again. Behind the hut is another small salve. Drop down to the level below where Lo jumped down. Five more enemies drop down including two guys carrying falchions, two guys carrying glaives, and one guy carrying a saber. Be careful when using R1 to escape attacks, as I've happily flipped right off the edge of the cliff more than once. After the battle, claim the small salve behind the hut (carefully!). Then climb the towers for another small salve and a medium salve. Stone Bridge Starting Weapon: None Items: 1 Small Healing Salve dropped by an opponent Dragon's Spirit Enemies: 2 Men with Falchions 2 Men with Spears 1 Man with an Axe Here's a little side trek for the completionists out there. As the scene begins, rotate the camera around so that it faces you. Walk forward and as the first section begins to fall, jump straight up, flip, and glide without drifting any direction. As you sink down, you'll see an alcove with a box in it. Smash the box for a Dragon's Spirit. Now move to the right side of the alcove and make a gliding leap of faith along the wall to reach the ground. After a few moments, a band of enemies will charge you. Two men with spears, two men with falchions, and one man with an axe. The man with the axe will cough up a small healing salve on his defeat. After defeating all the enemies, your only exit is the northern passageway flanked by green torches. Lava Valley Starting Weapon: None Items: None Enemies: None This board is just how it looks. Jump from platform to platform and avoid the jets of steam which will knock you back. A warning: watch out for the small cracks on the ground. It may look like you can step right over it, but nine times out of ten you'll fall. Also, once you fall in the lava below, there's no way out. I personally did not like trying to walk on the very narrow planks which span some of the chasms, so I just jumped/glided over all of them. It can be done. Keep going and find the exit flanked by blue torches. Log Bridge Starting Weapon: None Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: 2 Men with Falchions 1 Man with a Sabre Fight a quick match against the two men with falchions (one of whom will drop a small healing salve) and the man with the sabre. Run to the southwest wall and find the platforms jutting out of the wall. These platforms will be your stepping stones to the top. I found it easiest to pull the camera all the way back to make it easier to see. Get to the top and run north. Smash the hut for a small healing salve. Now cross the bridge and head to the right of the blocked passage for another small healing salve. Smash the nearby hut for a third small healing salve. Now look south to see three tall platforms. This requires some big jumps, but falling doesn't mean death. If you fall, just climb up the stepping stones and try again. Once you make it, smash the two boxes for a medium and a small healing salve. Cross back and take the western exit flanked by green torches. Stone Bridge Starting Weapon: None Items: 2 Small Healing Salves Qi Root Run north for a small healing salve and run south for another. Now back the camera up and jump/glide to the lower ledges. On the lowest ledge you'll find the Qi Root. Now jump back up to where you came from and take the eastern exit. Log Bridge Starting Weapon: None Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Just dash to the southern exit. Rocky Slope Starting Weapon: None Items: 7 Small Healing Salves Enemies: None Yes, you have to do what it looks like you have to do, and yes it's just as annoying as you think. No real strategy here. I just hugged the inside wall and sprinted a lot. Only try for the seven small healing salves along the outer edge if you really need them. The boulders don't hurt too bad, so if you take a few licks, just shrug it off and keep going. Bandits Hideout Starting Weapon: None Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (3 more will be dropped by opponents) 2 Medium Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 5 Men with Glaives 5 Men with Falchions 4 Unarmed Men 3 Men with Sabres 2 Men with Spears 1 Man with an Axe The northern platforms and bridge crumble if you touch them, so head south. Smash or jump on the small tower for a small healing salve. The nearby platforms will not crumble, so take your time. As you reach the far side, head south to nab a quick medium healing salve. Now head north and face off with a couple of enemies armed with a sabre and glaive respectively. A steady of stream of enemies will follow, but try not to knock them into the chasm you just crossed. If you do, you'll have to jump down there to finish them off and find the stepping stones to climb back up. As the first two fall, here is the order of foes that I fought. Men with a flachion, axe, spear, sabre, spear (drops a small healing salve), sabre, unarmed, unarmed, and a glaive. Next I tackled the unarmed man to the east. He drops a medium healing salve, but his death also starts another wave of enemies. Fight off men with a glaive (drops a small healing salve), falchion, falchion, glaive, glaive (drops a small healing salve), falchion, and falchion. Finally I took out the unarmed man to the east. Want another dirty trick? There is a sweet spot on the south edge of the map. As the enemies stream from the eastern hut, you can stand in the sweet spot and your foes will run off the edge and plummet like lemmings. You'll know the spot when you find it and you're enemies start sying. Now, if you check your map, you'll see one more red dot. That's Lo. He'll take off and drop down into the chasm you originally crossed and running out the north exit. Climb up to the northeast hut. There's a small healing salve on top of the hut and one behind it as well. Now head west and drop down onto the ledges. Don't miss the medium healing salve if you need it. Keep going to the bottom. Once there, smash the southeast hut for one more small healing salve. On the middle of the west wall are the stepping stones you would need to use if you fell earlier. Don't use them now. Instead follow Lo to the north exit. Cliff Starting Weapon: None Items: 3 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Large Healing Salve 1 Phoenix Essence Enemies: 2 Unarmed Men 2 Men with Falchions 1 Man with a Spear As this part begins, the crowd of five badguys rush Jen. Beat down the men with falchions, a spear, and the two unarmed men. One of the unarmed men will be nice enough to leave you a small healing salve. Now head north, but don't miss one small healing salve on the east edge of the ground and another due west of that one. Now jump on the north platform and pull the camera back. If you choose, you can dash to this platform and start the the jumping path and avoid fighting, but what's the fun in that? Anyway, make six jumps to six successive platforms, carefully minding that the camera will shift around the fifth one. Now there are no more platforms to the east, so jump to a new ledge to the west. Don't cross the bridge just yet. Instead jump up to the north and smash the box for a small healing salve. Now make your way down to where you see evidence of where a bridge was before. Position yourself so you can jump and grab the center pole and fling yourself across to the other side. Follow the path to find three boxes. Break them open for a phoenix essence, a large healing salve, and a small healing salve. Now jump back down to the ground which is west. Climb back up the platforms and back to the bridge we ignored before. Cross it now. Jump up north for the exit. Lo's Cave Starting Weapon: None Items: The Jen's Comb 2 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: Lo As this scene begins, Lo will wander back and forth a few times before sitting down to tend to his stew. If you want the Jen's comb (which is Jen's trigger), you must sneak up behind Lo and smack him without being seen. The easiest way to do this is to run up as soon as you can control Jen, but just remember to stay a little right. Lo will start by walking left, so it's relatively easy to get a shot at his back. If you get it right, you'll get a message about getting the Jade Comb, but in your inventory it is the Jen's Comb. If however, Lo sees you, a fight begins. You must perform five special moves...or knock him off a cliff...or my personal favorite: lead him near an edge. Make sure he doesn't start a fight combo. Jump, flip, and glide off the edge. As you gracefully float down, Lo will drop like a rock. His death will register just before your own and you'll get the bonus continue and the ending cut scene. If you want to explore a bit, there is a medium healing salve inside a northwest tower, a small healing salve hidden behind a partial wall to the north, another small healing salve near the eastern edge behind a partial wall, and a medium healing salve just south of that. No matter how you beat Lo, it finishes Jen's scene three. Jen Scene 4 Teahouse Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Large Healing Salve dropped by an opponent Enemies: 2 Unarmed Men These two thugs are pretty hearty, but the Green Destiny will wear them down pretty quickly. Smash through them and be awarded a large healing salve. A medium healing salve lies under the tent to the west. Two small salves lie just inside the southern building. A final small healing salve lies hidden in one of the pots to the northwest. There's only one exit, so use it. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 2 Small Healing Salves dropped by opponents 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 10 Men with Spears 10 Men with Swords Bo 2 Men with Firangis 1 Man with a Gladius 1 Man with a Halberd This scene starts with one battle and finishes with another. The first battle involves ten men with spears, ten men with swords, and Bo. Don't worry, though, the men with swords and spears don't all come out at once, just two of each at a time. Bo is the key to this fight. Beat him and the whole thing is over. Unfortunately, he still likes to run away, hide behind others, and hit you from behind. It probably is a little easier just to beat all the other flunkies first. One of the men with swords will drop a small healing salve for you and the fifth or sixth man with a spear will drop one as well. When Bo goes down you're treated to a quick cut scene and then another fight starts. This time your opponents are two men with firangis, one man with a gladius, and one man with a halberd. Beat them down and the man with the halberd will donate a medium healing salve to you. At the crossroads, head north across the bridge and up the hill. Smash the far bench for another medium healing salve. Now go back down and head for the southern exit. Village Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: None At the start, look southwest to see three pots. Smash them to get a small salve. Head east for a medium one. Now take a good look at the nearby garden. How nice! Someone has left a spot for you. If you don't know, the Jing Seed will spoil at the start of scene five, so we better do something with it. Face the small hole and press the action button to plant your Jing Seed. (Major credit to DarkKnight12 from the boards for this info! Thanks again!)(The Jing Seed was also confirmed by New Day Dawning. Thanks!) If you don't get a message, then it didn't work. Move around a little and try again. Try not to stand on the hole, but nearby for the best results. Now run to the southwest and smash a box for a small salve. Run east to the other side of the building for a medium salve. The final small salve is located on the roof of one of the southeast buildings. Look for the one that's set a little back on the map. Now you're ready for a big brawl. Enter the restaurant. Restaurant Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 5 Small Healing Salves (3 more will be dropped by opponents) 2 Medium Healing Salves (3 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Large Healing Salve dropped by an opponent 1 Restore Enemies: 12 Men with Halberds 8 Men with Firangis 6 Unarmed Men 5 Men with Gladius 5 Men with Maces 2 Men with Glaives This is just a big fight. I like to take it to the northeast area. It's more open to fight in, and you can lure enemies out a few at a time. The stream of enemies seems pretty endless, so just keep your health up and keep your attacks coming. The first man with a glaive and the first man with a mace I beat both dropped small healing salves. The fifth, sixth, and twelfth men with halberds all dropped a medium salve. The eighth man with a halberd dropped a small salve, and the tenth man with a halberd dropped a large salve. After the fray, you can score a few extra salves. On the upper tier of the restaurant, the northwest table of the eastern section hides a medium salve. Also on the upper tier, in the northeast area, there is a small healing salve at both ends of the walkway. On the ground of the northeast area, a large pot hides a small salve, and another lingers on an overhang to the east. Back inside the restaurant on the lower tier, head for the northwest section. The southeast corner of this section has a medium salve and the southwest corner of this section has a small salve for you. Back to the main area of the restaurant (by the entrance/exit), a restore hides behind the bar in the northwest corner. Time to leave. Village Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: None Enemies: None Nothing new here. Just travel to the eastern exit. Dojo Courtyard Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: None Think of this as the eye of the storm. Things will get busy again pretty soon. Boxes in the northwest and southwest corners contain small healing salves, and a box in the southeast corner contains a medium one. Enter the Dojo. Dojo Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: 2 Men with Sabres 1 Man with a Mace 1 Man with a Spear 1 Man with a Halberd Shu Lien This part starts out simply enough. A good old fashioned throw down with five heavily armed men. No problem. Just to be nice, the man with the halberd gives you an extra small healing salve. When the last man drops, a small cut scene has Shu Lien entering the fray. This is similar to the first fight you had with Shu Lien, but she's a little faster, a little stronger, and has a lot more HP. I had fun smashing her weapon and then destroying the weapon's racks along the walls. Shu Lien will grab a new weapon when she can, and I recreated the great scene from the movie...well, almost. Anyway, scene 4 ends with the defeat of Shu Lien, so if you need any of the salves in this section, get them now. There is a small salve in the southwest corner of the dojo. Now head to the outer area to the north. There is a small salve hidden in the southeastern pot, and breaking the crate to the southwest will net you a medium salve. You can jump up to the second tier of the dojo from this area. Run around to net two more small salves in the southwest and northeast corners respectively. Now get down there and beat Shu Lien for a bonus continue and the end of scene four. Jen Scene 5 Dojo Courtyard Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (2 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 5 Unarmed Men 5 Men with Halberds 2 Men with Sabres 2 Men with Maces 1 Man with a Spear This is a new scene, so all the salves from your first visit here are back and in the same place. Out of the fighters you face, the third unarmed man I beat dropped a medium salve, and the third and fifth men with halberds each dropped a small salve. Village Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: None
Again, new scene means every item has respawned, so take what you need. As a little bonus, stop by the garden to see you little jing seed starting to sprout. You can't do anything with it as Jen anyumore, so move on. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 1 Small Healing Salve dropped by an opponent 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: 1 Man with a Glaive 1 Man with a Sabre 1 Man with a Firangi 1 Man with a Spear Run straight forward across the bridge and start up the hill. A small cut scene starts and leads you to a small fight. Beat the four men and the one with the sabre surrenders a small healing salve. Break the last bench for another medium salve. If you need more salves, go back down the hill and take the western exit to the teahouse for one more medium and three more small salves. When you're ready, take the northern exit from the mountain path. Bamboo Grove Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 6 Small Healing Salves Enemies: None Jump onto the first bamboo stalk and run up. Jump to the ledge and nab a small salve to the southwest. Jump down to the small island to the west for another small salve. Now jump, flip, and glide north to another island. Climb up the bamboo stalk there and jump off west. There is another small salve to the northwest. Climb and jump another stalk and jump west. There is another small salve to the south. Climb and jump west again. Yet another small salve is south. This time, don't climb a stalk. Head north and jump and glide to the northwest island. There is a small salve here and one stalk. Climb it and jump west. Climb one more stalk and jump west to reach the exit. One quick note, there is a time limit on this board, but it's not crucial. The only time I've ever been burned by it is when I got up to use the restroom in the middle of this section. I came back to a message that said, "Li Mu Bai got away!" Even when I was searching out all the small salves around here, I didn't run out of time. So bear it in mind, but don't worry about it. Waterfall Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Large Healing Salve 1 Restore Enemies: Li Mu Bai Six combo blocks and six specials to advance...or you can cheat. More on that in a second. Here's the salve locations: from where you start, head south for a small salve and then west for a medium salve; the box in the northwest holds a large salve and then head east for another small salve. Now, you can pick an area and fight Li Mu Bai like you're supposed to, or you can run and jump off the waterfall. There are several ledges leading down the waterfall including a low one which has a box containing a restore. There's a good chance Li Mu Bai will just careen off the screen and end the scene. Whichever way you beat him, the scene ends and Jen gets retired for now. Save your game and get ready to start as Shu Lien. Shu Lien Scene 1 Sir Te's Residence Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 7 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 6 Men with Falchions 6 Men with Axes Several enemies charge Shu Lien with axes and falchions. The Man with the axe behind you will drop a small healing salve for you. The scene is pretty steady with falchions and axes, but only four at a time will ever attack you. The fourth man carrying an axe you face will toss a small salve to you on his defeat. The other salves scattered around the board are in the same locations as when you visited here as Jen in her Scene 1 when she fought the inspector and his daughter, and all locations are listed there. As the last opponent foe falls, you are automatically carried to the next area, so pick up all the salves you want before the last guy goes down. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small healing salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 2 Medium healing salves 1 Large healing salves 1 Restore Enemies: 2 Men with Falchions 1 Man with a Glaive A quick skirmish and the glaive wielder will surrender a small healing salve. All the set salves are the same from Jen's vists with a couple of exceptions. First, the large healing salve on the northwest is still there, but it's joined by a restore. The exchange is that the small salve on the northern roof of the eastern row of buildings is now gone. Back Alley Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: 2 Men with Spears 2 Men with Glaives As usual, Bo is in over his head and it's up to you to rescue him. This one is pretty easy, because he does not participate in the combat. So, he's also safe from harm. Beat the enemies and grab the small salve that the man with the glaive drops. As with other scenes, all the salve locations are the same as Jen's scenario. You can talk to Bo if you like, or you can just leave. Beinjing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Grab anything you missed the first time and head to the southwest exit. Governor's Mansion Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 3 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: 5 Men with Glaives 4 Men with Falchions 3 Men with Spears 1 Unarmed Man 1 Man with a Sabre 1 Man with an Axe The fight in this scene begins with two men with falchions, one man with a glaive, and one man with a sabre. One of the falchion wielders also has a small salve which he'll be willing to share with you after some extreme persuasion. As opponents go down, the fight will be joined by more fighters whose order will differ according to who you defeat. Be prepared to face four more glaives, two more falchions, two more spears, an axe, and an unarmed opponent. Courtyard Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small Healing Salves Restore Enemies: Lo Jen First off, the two small salves on the northern platform from Jen's visit are still there, but the southern platform is now empty. Bo will help you in this fight, but he's actually more of a hinderance. The good news is that you really only have to beat Jen. Bring her down and you'll end the fight and the scene. If Bo survives, he'll automatically give you a restore at the end of the fight. Shu Lien Scene 2 Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small healing salves 2 Medium healing salves 1 Large healing salves 1 Restore Blacksmith's Hammer Enemies: None Grab anything of the salves you may want/need. Everything is in the same spot, with a few exceptions. A restore joins the large healing salve on the tower in the northwest corner, there is no longer a small healing salve on the rooftops of the eastern row of buildings, and Shu Lien's unique item the Blacksmith's Hammer is located in the southeast area on the ground between the building and the wall. Take the northeastern exit when you are ready. Back Alley Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 4 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: None As you enter this area, you'll spot Lo and he'll make a hasty exit out the northern doorway. Collect any salves you may need. They are all located in the same positions as Jen's first visit, and head after Lo. Back Streets Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Phoenix Blood Enemies: 3 Men with Glaives 1 Man with an Axe Begin this area by grabbing the small salve located to the west of your starting location. Now run towards Lo and he'll take off. As you chase him, you'll keep running into walls of boxes. There is nothing in any of them, so you can smash them all, or just smash one of them and jump over. After getting past the first wall, you'll reach an intersection. Go west and get past the wall there to claim a phoenix blood. Now check your map to see a red dot to the north of you. That's Lo. Return east to the intersection and go up the eastern path and pass the wall of boxes. There should be another small salve in front of you. Run west toward Lo and he'll dash off again. Chase him, passing yet another wall of boxes and into the northeast corner of the map. He has a few words with you and runs away again. This time, you can't follow him, though. Make your way back to the entrance of the area. Use your map as help if you need it. On your way back, however, you'll have to face a man with an axe and three men with glaives. All these men are located in different areas so you only fight them one at a time. Return to the area which had the phoenix blood to get a medium healing salve. Fighting the last man with the glaive near the entrance/exit of the area will earn you another small salve. Back Alley Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: Nothing New Enemies: None If you need something you missed before, grab it now. Otherwise exit out the western gate. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 1 Small Healing Salve dropped by an opponent 1 Restore Enemies: 4 Men with Glaives 4 Men with Falchions You have a helper in this fight who is indicated by a green dot on the map. He is also the only character fighting with a cudgel. As this area begins, your helper will charge some enemies and a man with a falchion and a man with a glaive who will give a small salve will charge you. As these two men go down, two more men with glaives will charge you. Now run south to assist your the poor guard helping you. He also is fighting a man with a glaive and a man with a falchion. I recommend switching to unarmed combat here as to avoid doing too much damage to your helper. As the two enemies go down, two more men with falchions will enter the fray. Take care of them and, if he's still alive, your helper will give you a restore when you talk to him. Temple Stairway Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Dragon's Spirit 1 Restore Enemies: 7 Men with Glaives 3 Men with Sabers 3 Men with Falchions 2 Unarmed Men This area begins with Lo doing what he does best, running away. He leaves a small goon squad behind to play with you. Two men with glaives, one man with a sabre, and one man with a flachion start the battle. One of those glaives has a small salve for you. As these opponents are defeated, more enemies will enter the area. Depending on who you defeat may change the order of your enemies' appearance, but here is a list as I fought them. First out was a man with a glaive, followed by a saber, glaive, glaive, glaive, sabre, unarmed, falchion, unarmed, and finally a falchion. One of the glaives that enter will surrender a medium salve on his defeat. All the salve locations are the same as Jen's visit, but the other two items are different. Smash the statues and Shu Lien gets a dragon's spirit (discipline for Jen), and on the archway before the stairs is a restore (Jen got her Tiger's Claw). Rocky Passage Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 1 Small Healing Salve 1 Medium Salve Enemies: 14 Mad Bombers Lo This is a new area with a whole new way of fighting. You can't just engage the enemies here, but have to toss bombs at them. If you are carrying a weapon, make sure it is put away because it's useless here. Men on top of a cliff will toss lit dynamite at you. Walk over one and press L3 to pick it up. Face the enemies and press any one of your attack buttons to throw it at them. There are usually only three or four bombers at a time and Lo stands on a tower to on the right tossing bombs, too. I haven't been able to score a hit on Lo, but I'm still trying. Your aim is very accurate, but unfortunately your selection isn't. Every time you throw a bomb, it will almost always land at the feet of one of the bombers, but if you throw another bomb before the first has gone off, Shu Lien tends to throw it to the same place. To make up for this, sometimes one bomb will take out two or more enemies. I've gotten three in one blast before, but only once. The bombs on the ground are pretty easy to avoid, and bombs that are about to explode will start to flash. Even if you do get caught in a few blasts, you won't be hurt too badly, so enjoy this area. As last bomber goes down, Lo will drop in front of you and...run away. Before chasing after him, smash a skull on the west side of the board for a medium salve. Golden Hills Starting Weapon: Sabre (weakened to 1 durability point) Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Antidote 1 Restore Enemies: Lo Finally Lo is cornered and has to fight. This fight will end the scene so grab anything you might want before kicking his butt. Inside a pot to the east is a restore. On the north side of the map another pot hides a small salve. An antidote is inside a pot in the map's southwest corner and a small salve lies on the steps nearby. The last small salve is on the steps in the southeast corner. Now you're ready to face Lo. He is unarmed, but he packs some mean combinations. Beat him down for a bonus continue and an end to scene two. Save your game. Shu Lien Scene 3 Teahouse Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: None Just grab any salves you may need. There locations are the same as Jen's first visit with the exception of one of the small salves in the south area is missing. Moutain Path Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: None If you need a medium healing salve, run to the intersection and head north. Cross the bridge and climb the hill to see the inspector's daughter and several benches. Smash the last bench for the salve. If you talk to the daughter, she will tell you that Jade Fox hasn't come that way yet. Return down to the intersection and speak with Bo. He'll tell you Jade Fox got away. After speaking with him, your exit will appear. Enter the blue torch door. Village Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Antidote (In Resaurant): 5 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves 1 Restore 1 Dragon's Spirit (In Dojo Courtyard): 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Dragon's Spirit Enemies: None As you enter this area, you'll hear Jade Fox laughing and flying away. That's it for here. Everything is the same here as Jen's first visit, but the medium salve located in the northeast corner has transformed into an antidote. Before going back out to chase Jade Fox, take a couple of minutes to clean out the restaurant and dojo courtyard of their bounties. All salve locations are the same as Jen's first visit to these areas with two bonus items. In the restaurant, in the outer northeast section behind a pole is a dragon's spirit. In the dojo courtyard another dragon's spirit rests under the bridge in the dead center of the map. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Bo's gone, but if you climb the north hill and speak with the inspector's daughter, she'll tell you Jade Fox went to the river crossing. Return to the intersection and follow the eastern path for the exit. River Crossing Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 1 Small Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Large Healing Salve dropped by an opponent 4 Antidotes Enemies: 4 Men with Snake Swords 3 Men with Gladius 1 Man with a Halberd 1 Man with an Axe Jade Fox As this area starts, Jade Fox sends some flunkies to get you and flies off. Four men with snake swords and one man with a gladius charge, and one of the men with a snake sword will give you a small salve. As these enemies fall, men with a gladius, a halberd, another gladius, and an axe will join in. The man with the halberd offers up a large salve upon his defeat. When the last foe drops, a cut scene shows a bridge being lowered. Now grab the antidote in the southeast corner and head to the river. The current is fast and will move your character, but jumping/gliding or sprinting easily gets you around this hazard. Cross the river and smash the pots in front of the hut for a small salve. Next, jump on one of the logs floating down the river and ride it until it gets close to the low ledge on the north shore. Jump/flip/glide to this lower ledge and grab another antidote. If you miss, just try again. Jump up and follow the path around and pick up the two more antidotes on the way. As you get near the bridge, a small cut scene will end with the bridge up, locking you in a small area to do battle with Jade Fox. She's not extremely strong and all of your fighting practice should make pretty short work of her. The only bad thing is when she starts to get low on health, she'll use a healing salve and bump it up once. Don't relent and just take her down again all the way to end scene three. Shu Lien Scene 4 River Crossing Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 1 Small Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 3 Antidotes Enemies: 2 Men with Snake Swords 2 Men with Gladius 1 Man with a Snake Spear The scene begins with a small skirmish as all the enemies attack at once, but there's no real noticeable threat. The man with the snake spear will give up a small salve when he is beaten. As the last foe falls, the bridge lowers letting back down to the ground area. All the items are respawned except for the antidote on the lower ledge on the north shore of the river. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: None As you near the junction a man will ask for your help subduing several rowdy men at the teahouse. If you need a spare medium salve, climb the north hill and smash the bench for one. Now return down and exit west to crack some heads. Teahouse Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (2 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Medium Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 16 Men with Firangis 4 Men with Glaives This is a long battle that starts off with two men with glaives and two men with firangis. One of these firangis will drop a small salve. As they are defeated, two more glaives and two more firangis enter. One of those glaives has a medium salve. As they fall, twelve more firangis will enter, but never more than two will attack you at once. About the tenth man with a firangi you send to permanent dreamland will toss a small salve. The other salves are at the same locations as earlier. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Make your way to the village, south. Village Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Antidote Enemies: None Talk to any or all of them men standing around the restaurant in order to get the next part ready. If you just go into the dojo courtyard, guards around the dojo door will tell you something's happened at the restaurant. Once you talk the men, the gateway torches flanking the dojo courtyard doorway will go from green to blue. Guess where you're going next. Dojo Courtyard Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Dragon's Spirit Enemies: None All the salve locations are the same, and a dragon's spirit rests under the bridge at the center of the map. Enter the dojo. Dojo Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 4 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Large Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent 1 Antidote will be dropped by an opponent Enemies: 5 Men with Snake Swords 3 Men with Gladius 3 Men with Axes 2 Unarmed Men 1 Man with a Halberd The dojo area begins with two men with gladius, two men with snake swords, and one man with an axe who will give a medium salve ready to fight. As these foes drop, more enemies enter the dojo. The order may vary depending on which foes you defeat first, but the order they entered for me was: unarmed, halberd, snake sword, snake sword, axe, unarmed, gladius, snake sword, and an axe. The man with the halberd will relinquish a large salve and the entering gladius will give you an antidote. The set salves in the level are in the same locations as Jen's visit here. As the last opponent falls, scene four comes to an end. Feel free to save your game. Shu Lien Scene 5 Dojo Courtyard Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (3 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Dragon's Spirit Enemies: 7 Men with Snake Swords 7 Men with Axes 1 Man with a Snake Spear 1 Man with a Halberd Always nice to begin a scene with a battle. Two snake swords, a snake spear, and an axe charge Shu Lien. One of the snake swords will give a medium salve to you. As the fight continues and opponents are beaten, more enemies will enter the area. The following order may change depending on who you fight first, but my order of entering opponents was: snake sword, snake sword, axe, axe, snake sword, axe, axe, snake sword, halberd, axe, snake sword, and an axe. Of the entering enemies, two of the men with axes dropped small salves and one of the men with a snake sword dropped a small salve as well. Village Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Antidote Shen Flower Enemies: None All items have respawned and are back exactly where they were for Shu Lien's first vists. There is, however, a new addition. Go to the garden where you planted the Jing Seed (If you planted the Jing Seed), and growing there will be a flower. Press the L3 action button to pick the shen flower for the third ingredient to Li Mu Bai's trigger. The restaurant cannot be entered at this time, so out to the mountain path. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: Jade Fox Time to fight Jade Fox again, but this time Bo and the inspector's daughter are helping you. Again, they are more annoying than helpful, but beat Jade Fox for a bonus continue and she will grab Jen and fly off toward the river crossing. Talk to Bo after the scrap and he'll give you a medium salve. Climb the northern hill and smash the bench for another one. Go to the Teahouse (west exit) if you need more salves, or head east toward the river crossing. River Crossing Starting Weapon: Sabre Items: ? Forgot to write it down... Enemies: 4 Men with Snake Swords 2 Men with Axes 2 Men with Gladius Jade Fox As you enter this area, two of the snake swords (one bearing a small salve for you) and an axe come for your blood. Make them pay and head toward the bridge using the river's logs to get up there. As you near the bridge, another snake sword will attack. There is a final snake sword on the middle of the bridge. On the opposite side is an axe with two gladius behind him. Beat them all down for a small cut scene which reveals a new area and Shu Lien's final fight with Jade Fox. There is a restore behind the eastern statue, but little else in these areas. The two areas are kind of small and various statues and poles can hinder movement a little, but they shouldn't be too much of a problem. Jade Fox has quite a bit of health for this fight, but the ground is mostly level, so grabbing her and delivering special moves can and should be done often. Use whatever items you wish during this battle, because once it's done, so is Shu Lien. Finish off Jade Fox and scene five ends. Save your game and prepare to take on the role of Li Mu Bai. Li Mu Bai Scene 1 Tsai's Camp Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 3 Small Healing Salves Enemies: None Nothing much to do here. There's an area on the map (northeast corner) that I haven't found a way into, but you can grab three small salves here before moving on. There is one small salve in the northeast corner and the other two are on rooftops of the two northern buldings. Back Alley Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 4 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: None Same salve locations as every other time you've visited here. Grab them all and get ready to fight in the next location. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 2 Medium Healing Salves (3 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Large Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Restore Enemies: 18 Men with Snake Swords 13 Unarmed Men This area begins with a pretty steady stream of men with snake swords sprinkled with a few unarmed men coming from the southern exit. The sixth snake sword and the sixth unarmed men both drop medium salves, the twelfth snake sword drops a large salve, and the twelfth unarmed man will drop a medium salve. The best bet for this area is to stay north and let the enemies come to you. A few unarmed men may be able to grab discarded snake swords if you do this, but they are still no real threat. When the door finally stops letting in enemies, there will be snake sword and unarmed men in the southwest corner of the map. The unarmed man will give you a small salve. Now to collect any salves you may need. You should be pretty familiar with this area by now, but refer to Jen's scene one if you need a refresher. The difference is that there is no small salve on the northern side of the eastern row of rooftops and in the southeast area, a restore is on the ground between the building and the south wall. Temple Stairway Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 4 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Antidote 1 Phoenix Essence Enemies: None Just grab what you want and move on. There is a small salve on the ground in the open area and a medium salve behind the sign near the exit. The other three salves are located on the stair landings, two are in pots. Smash the three statues at the foot of the stairs for a phoenix essence. Lastly, jump up onto the archways at the foot of the stairs and make your way to the other side for an antidote. Rocky Passage Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent Enemies: 8 Men with Snake Swords 6 Unarmed Men Three unarmed men start this area and one of them will surrender a small salve for you. As these men are dropped, three men with snake swords will join the fight. Beat them, and three more unarmed men will try their luck. The last unarmed man will give up a medium salve. Lastly, three snake swords and then two snake swords will fight you. Only three enemies will fight at a time, so there shouldn't be too much difficulty. Before advancing to the next area, smash the skull on the west side near the middle of the map. There is also a small salve hidden in the rock in the northwest rock. Golden Hills Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 1 Small Healing Salve 1 Antidote 1 Restore Enemies: Jade Fox Jen This is your first encounter with Jade Fox, but it is far from your last. The first item of business will be to grab any items you may want. There is a small salve on the southeastern stairs, an antidote in the southwest corner, and a restore is hidden in a pot to the east. Now face off with Jade Fox. You should beat her down easily. A little too easily. As her health goes down, Jen will join the fight. Jade Fox's health will still be low, but Jen will protect her. A little bit of running and you can finish off Jade Fox, but if you take down Jen first, you can pick up the Green Destiny. This may be Shu Lien's ending trigger. I need to test a few more things out. Finish things off any way you like. Grab and combo or just straight fight. As both enemies fall you'll net two bonus continues and an end to scene one. Li Mu Bai Scene 2 Sir Te's Residence Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 7 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: Jen Four special combos and four combo blocks. First grab any salves you may want. Their locations are the same as before. Check Jen's scene one for locations. Perform the combos by grabbing Jen, and the combo blocks are pretty simple. After four of each are done, you receive a bonus continue and are automatically transported to the next area. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves 1 Large Healing Salve 1 Restore Enemies: None Same stuff as your first visit here. It's all respawned so take a little time to do some gathering if you wish, and then move on. Back Alley Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 4 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves Enemies: None Again, refer to Jen's scene one for salve locations and move on. Tsai's Camp Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 1 Man with a Spear 1 Man with a Glaive 1 Man with a Mace It's a small party with three too many uninvited guests. Finish them off and grab the small salve the man with the spear will drop. The other three salves are in the same locations as your first visit and have respawned. Talk to the inspector's daughter to activate your exit. Return the way you came in. Back Alley Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Grab anything you may have missed and press on. Beijing Interior Section Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Give you a great weapon and all you do is backtrack through empty streets with it. Oh, well. Grab anything you missed before and continue. Temple Stairway Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 4 Small Healing Salves (2 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) Enemies: 21 Men with Falchions 2 Unarmed Men Lo This area begins with a man holding a falchion charging down the stairs at you. Dispatch him and collect his medium salve. Another flachion will enter from the doors behind you. He'll give you a small salve. Start up the stairs and meet two unarmed men. A third falchion will meet you on the stairs. As the third falchion falls, a fourth falchion enters from the doors at the bottom. Go get him now, or press forward. As you near the top of the stairs, a cut scene will show Lo is waiting for you. As he launches his attack, two more falchions will be on the stairs behind you. One of those falchions will drop another small. As you fight Lo, more and more falchions will join the fight up to two at a time. You can continue to fight them for extra experience, but after twenty-one men with falchions, no more came out (that number includes the ones at the beginning of the scene). As always I advise fighting on landings as opposed to on the stairs, and this scene can be shortened dramtaically by just charging up the stairs and defeating Lo. No matter what you've done or who you've beat, once Lo falls you get a bonus continue and the exit torches light. Any undefeated enemies merely vanish. The small salves located in this scene are all back as before (one on the ground and three on the landings) and the medium is back behind the sign at the bottom. The hard to reach antidote is also back, but smashing the statues garners you nothing this time. Temple Starting Weapon: Green Destiny Items: 1 Small Healing Salve 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Phoenix Essence 1 Discipline Tortoise Stone Enemies: Jen Been practicing combo blocking? I hope so. You have to successfully combo block Jen ten times in order to advance. First, however, collect the bounty this area offers. Inside the statue just west of start is a discipline. The northwest corner holds a phoenix essence, the southwest corner has a small salve, and the southeast corner has a medium one. Now for the big one. Find the long gazebo with a stone bell inside. Run in there and start slashing until the bell falls. It may fall on you, but small price to pay. Continue to swing until the bell shatters and grab the Tortoise Stone, Li Mu Bai's unique item, inside. Now you're ready to start dodging some combos from Jen. For the most part, I just stayed in the center of the board and let her charge me. She only got past my block a couple of times, so I just rolled out of the way and tried again. If you're still having problems with combo blocks at this point, I highly recommend practicing by burning a few of your continues here. When you finish, a bonus continue is yours as well as the end of scene two. Li Mu Bai Scene 3 Village Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 3 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Large Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent 1 Antidote (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) (In Resaurant): 5 Small Healing Salves 2 Medium Healing Salves 1 Restore 1 Dragon's Spirit Enemies: 4 Men with Snake Swords 4 Men with Snake Spears 4 Men with Halberds 4 Men with Gladius 2 Unarmed Men 2 Men with Axes As the scene opens, you'll face a couple of snake swords, an axe, and a couple of snake spears. One of the spearmen will give up a small salve. As you take them down, five more enemies will enter including two men with halberds, two men with gladius (one of whom surrenders a medium salve), and an unarmed man. Dispatch the new enemies to face another wave of the first enemies (two snake swords, two snake spears, and an axe). One of the men with snake swords will happily give you the large salve that's weighing him down. The last wave of enemies is the two halberd, two gladius (one of whom gives you an antidote), and one unarmed combo. I spoke of the enemies in waves, when in fact it is a pretty steady stream with up to five enemies at a time. I noticed the enemies came in small defined packs that made it easier to describe. Collect any of the items you need (refer to Jen's scene four for locations but note that the small salve in the northeast corner is now an antidote) and take a quick side trek into the restaurant. The torches are green, but inside is a nice number of salves and items that makes it well worth the trip. Don't miss the dragon's spirit behind the pole in the northeast area. It's important to do this now, because the restaraunt becomes inaccessible very soon. Mountain Path Startin Weapon: Sword Items: 1 Small Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Large Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent (In Teahouse): 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: 4 Men with Snake Swords 4 Men with Gladius 2 Unarmed Men 2 Men with Axes As this area begins, a snake sword and a gladius (with a medium salve) charge. Take them down and start down the east path to encounter another man with a snake sword and another man with a gladius behind him. Continue down the path to meet two men with axes (one of whom has a small salve) and two unarmed men. As these enemies fall two more gladius (one has a large salve) and two more snake swords will finish this combat. Before heading out to the next area, feel free to return back west and plunder the teahouse of its salves and don't forget to climb the north hill and smash the last bench for another medium one. If you don't do this now, you can do it on your return trip in after the next area. River Crossing Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 1 Small Healing Salve Enemies: None As you enter this scene, you'll see a man laying on the ground. Talk to him. Careful, if you are using a weapon you grabbed from an enemy, pressing the L3 button will oftentimes make Mu Bai put the weapon on the ground. Play it safe and sheathe your weapon (unarmed attack button) before speaking with the man. Cross the river and smash the pots near the hut for a small salve. Return the way you came in. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Sword Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Make your way back to the village which is the southern exit of this board. If you chose to press on before as opposed to backtracking, grab the medium on top of the hill and raid the teahouse now. Village Starting Weapon: Sword Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Another simple area. The restaurant is now closed and inaccessible. Talk to one or more of the three men in front of the restaurant to change the torches around the eastern exit from green to blue. Dojo Courtyard Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Phoenix Blood Enemies: None Small salves in northwest and southwest corners, a medium in the southeast corner, and a phoenix blood under the bridge. Collect what you need and press on to the dojo. Dojo Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 3 Small Healing Salves (3 more will be dropped by opponents) 2 Medium Healing Salves (2 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Large Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent 3 Antidotes will be dropped by opponents Enemies: 9 Men with Gladius 9 Unarmed Men 5 Men with Axes 3 Men with Snake Spears 3 Men with Halberds 3 Men with Snake Swords This area starts with two men with axes (one of whom will drop a medium salve) and three men with gladius. As one enemy falls, another one will take his place. Only five enemies will attack at a time, but these guys are made of pretty hard stock. Even a maxed out Li Mu Bai can't take these guys down with one series of attacks. So, take your time and play safe. This many enemies can make getting combos off a little tricky, but if you manage to swing two in a row, the fifteen percent offense you'll earn comes in very handy. Too bad it's almost too short to even bother with. All enemies are listed above, so I'll just list the ones who drop stuff. The first snake spear drops a small salve, and the rest comes from unarmed opponents. The unarmed opponents will drop: an antidote, a large salve, an antidote, a small salve, a medium salve, another antidote, and a small salve. That's the order they dropped things for me, but it may be different for you. Don't forget about the salves scattered around the dojo (locations are noted earlier in walkthrough like Jen's scene four). As the last enemy fades away, scene three comes to a close. Li Mu Bai Scene 4 Dojo Courtyard Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (2 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Medium Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Phoenix Blood Enemies: 4 Men with Halberds 4 Unarmed Men 3 Men with Snake Swords 2 Men with Snake Spears Things get rolling with two men with snake spears (one of whom drops a medium salve) and two men with snake swords. As these opponents fall, two men with halberds (one has a small salve) and two unarmed men will take their place. Defeat them and two more halberds (one has another small salve) and two more unarmed men will emerge. As that group falls, a lonely man with a snake sword will jump in. New scene so all items have respawned and wish to be taken with you. Oblige them. Village Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Antidote Enemies: None All respawned items are in the same locations as Mu Bai's first visit here. Head out to the mountain path. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 1 Small Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent 1 Medium Healing Salve (3 more will be dropped by opponents) 1 Large Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent 2 Antidotes will be dropped by opponents (In Teahouse): 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve Enemies: 12 Men with Snake Swords 4 Unarmed Men 2 Men with Gladius 2 Men with Snake Spears Start by going north and climbing the hill. A small cut scene will lead to the start of a fight. First climb the hill and finish off the man with the snake spear there. Grab the medium salve from the bench if you need it. Next head down the hill to face a snake sword and an unarmed opponent. Continue toward the village and blast through all the men with snake swords that emerge from the village. The first one will give you a medium salve. Next, follow the path east and square off against two more snake swords (one of whom drops a small salve), an unarmed man (drops an antidote), and a gladius. As this group falls, it is replaced by two more snake swords (one drops a medium salve), another unarmed man (drops another antidote), and a snake spear. Drop this new group and the last group of two snake swords (one drops a medium salve), a gladius (drops a large salve), and one more unarmed man. Feel free to go back and raid the teahouse again, or do it on the return trip. River Crossing Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 1 Small Healing Salve Bamboo Gate Key Enemies: 1 Unarmed Man Pretty basic. The man will charge and you can put a major hurt on him. His defeat automatically adds the bamboo gate key to your inventory. Go smash the pots near the hut for a small salve. Mountain Path Starting Weapon: Sword Items: Kun Leaf Enemies: None You have a choice here. You can enter the bamboo grove at the top of the hill, or you can make a couple side treks for the Kun Leaf which is the final item needed for Li Mu Bai's ending trigger. To get the Kun Leaf, go to the village and talk to the inspector's daughter. She'll plead with you to help Bo who has been trapped under some logs at the river crossing. Poor Bo. Go back down the mountain path to the river crossing for a quick cut scene which will end with you getting the Kun Leaf. Return down the mountain path and enter the north gateway. Bamboo Grove Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 6 Small Healing Salves Enemies: None See Jen's scene 5 for all salve locations. Li Mu Bai has a much easier time in this area than Jen did. He can jump much higher making some of the islands avoidable. For the most part, Li Mu Bai can cross every chasm just by running up the bamboo and jumping. Don't get greedy. If you press him too far, he will fall, so play it a little safe nd you shouldn't have any trouble. Waterfall Starting Weapon: Sword Items: 2 Small Healing Salves (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Large Healing Salve 1 Restore Enemies: 4 Men with Snake Swords 2 Men with Halberds 1 Unarmed Man 1 Man with an Axe Jen This area starts with a match against Jen. Defeat her with regular attacks, combos, or by tricking her off the edge of the waterfall. If you choose to fight her, she does have a decent health boost once she starts to get low on health. As Jen is defeated, a cut scene will leave Li Mu Bai with his back to the waterfall and several enemies advancing on him. You are in a bad place right now, so get away from the waterfall even if it means taking a hit or two. Once clear, turn your attention on the two men with snake swords, the man with a halberd (drops a small salve), and the man with an axe. As these foes fall, they will be replaced by two more snake swords, another halberd, and an unarmed man. Other item locations are the same as Jen's visit in her scene five. If you want an easy pass, feel free to trick the enemies over the waterfall. No matter how you beat them, the scene ends with the last opponent. Li Mu Bai Scene 5 Cave Entrance Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: 2 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Antidote Enemies: None Welcome to the last scene. You'll know if you have earned Shu Lien's ending trigger right away. If you have gotten it, Li Mu Bai will have the Green Destiny for the whole scene. If not, he will use a sword. These are all new areas, and some are quite rough if you're not comfortable with the controls. Well, let's get started. Please note the purple water flowing around the whole room. As you might have guessed purple water is bad. It hurts if you touch it, but not very much. Don't panic if you fall into it, but make sure you're not standing in it if you decide to go make a sandwich. Look down from where you start. On the first island a pot is hiding a small salve. Return to the starting point via the eastern ramp. Now, the first jump is to the short pillar east and then jump northeast to another pillar. Next jump east to a semi-large landing and carefully navigate the narrow bridge to the next landing. If you jump straight up and down, you should see a pole spanning part of the room. You may need to adjust the camera a little. That pole is your next destination. Mu Bai will swing around and land on top of a small waterfall. The current is pretty fast and can push Mu Bai right off of it, so jump relatively quickly to the long overhang to the east. This is a checkpoint of sorts. If you fell from the waterfall, there is a pillar nearby which is low enough for Li Mu Bai to jump and hang onto. He can flip himself up on top of it and save you a long trek back to the start. The next long overhang lies southeast. There is an antidote in the pot on the end of the overhang, so grab it at your own risk. You can see an alcove in the southeast which contains a small salve hiding in a pot. Once in the alcove, the camera seems to refuse to let you move it, so falling is most likely. Run back to the waterfall and look for the low pillar or try to wall jump from the southeast wall to the short overhang nearby. Return to the long overhang near the alcove, and the short (broken looking) overhang to the east is your next destination. A short hop east to another long overhang and we're almost done. The pot on this overhang is empty. You should see the exit, and a long jumping glide should reach it. Before running through it, double wall jump in front of the exit to reach an upper level where a medium salve hides in a pot. Drop back down and exit to the next area. Hallway Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Large Healing Salve 1 Antidote 1 Restore Enemies: None Just make your way down this long hall and collect any goodies you want on the way. The pot southeast of your starting position holds a small salve. Travel east over or through the large pool of purple water. Smash the second statue for a medium salve and the pots just north for an antidote. Head west to see several pits spanning the room. The first two jumps are pretty short and can easily be overshot. The last jump is very long. A great jump will make it standing. A good jump will leave Mu Bai hanging from the edge. Either way gets you across. If you fall, head east through the water to find a ledge to climb back up and try again. Look at the three statues along the wall. The middle one is trapped, but it's worth it for the reward. As the statue shatters, a large pot drops from the ceiling. There's a good chance it will land on your head doing small damage, othwerwise just smash it open for a large salve. The next pit is tricky and annoying. There is a stack of unbreakable boxes in the middle and landing on them is what it wants you to do. Below this stack is a wooden box. You can jump, flip, glide from this wooden box to the next landing, but you'll miss a restore and the small salve inside the box. Return back to the first jump area for a low ledge which will get you back up in case you fall. If you manage to land on the stack of boxes, jump up to swing on a pole and land in an alcove where a restore hides in a box. Glide down to the landing below. Line yourself left of center and jump up for a series of poles to swing on. You should end by hanging off of a small ledge. If you're too far right, you must return and jump back up to the landing and try again. Smash the left statue near the exit for a small salve and head out. Cave Crossroad Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: Dragon Spirit Enemies: Hard to keep count After a cut scene, enemies start to drop from the heavens. It is too difficult to count how many of which type as many of them miss the platform you're standing on and are never heard from again. Just bash through them and feel free to knock any you wish off the platform for easy kills. When the torches light, take the southern exit. New note! After defeating the enemies, start walking to the dragon/tiger door. There's a small area below the platform which leads to the door. In the area is a box. In the box is a Dragon Spirit. Getting back up to the platform can be tricky, but if you remember climbing the tower in Beijing, you can use similar techniques to get out. To summarize it: jump out of the alcove without hitting your head on the top, and flip up onto the platform. Dark Passage Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: 3 Small Healing Salves 1 Antidote Enemies: None Nothing too threatening here. Just make your way down and use the map for help. If you go up stairs, then you're heading the wrong way. The first group of pots you'll see hide a small salve. The second statue just northeast of the pool of purple water also has a small salve. A pot located southwest of the purple pool has an antidote. Continuing down, a stalagmite cuts an alcove in two. A pot to the south of this stalagmite near a torch hides a small. Exit. Caverns Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: 1 Small Healing Salve 1 Medium Healing Salve will be dropped by an opponent 1 Antidote Dragon Key Enemies: 2 Men with Axes 2 Men with Gladius 1 Man with a Halberd Face off with the five enemies at the start. They're pretty hearty, so take your time. Also, be careful about blasting them off the platform you're fighting on. If you do, there's a good chance you'll have to jump down after
them and finish them off. If you do jump down or fall, there is a ladder on east side of the map which will take you back to the starting platform. On the north side of the map, you can see a long peninsula jutting south. On this peninsula are a small salve and an antidote hidden in pots. Otherwise, make your way from platform to platform working your way southwest. Your goal is the top of the waterfall in the southwest corner. Once you make it there, jump your way up stream (the current is fast enough to sweep you off) until you see a small platform with two chests on top. The box on the left will drop an empty statue on your head, but the box on the right contains the dragon key. You're done here. There are two exits. The way you came in (blue torches) or a green torch door on the lower level. This green torch door will take you to the Cave Entrance from the beginning of the scene. I recommend getting out the way you came in via the eastern exit. Dark Passage Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: Nothing New Enemies: None Use the map to get out. Don't go down any steps this time. All stairways should lead up. Cave Crossroad Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: None Enemies: None One key down, one to go. Make your way to the northern exit. Abyss Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: None Enemies: None This is not as tricky as some might lead you to believe. One of the basic keys to this area is that the left wall is your best friend. Stay near it. First jump to a northern platform. Then a simple jump up to the next landing. The next jump is a hanger. Jump up and hang and flip up. Stay on the left wall, but the next jump is too tall. Don't worry, jump around the tall platform for another higher level. You can make the tall platform you went around from this new platform. Jump up east to another hanger. Flip up and make your way southwest. Jump straight up to see a pole to swing on. Go for it. This will deposit you right in front of the exit. Before you get too excited, grab the small salve to the west. Cave Crossroads Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: 1 Small Healing Salve dropped by an opponent 1 Antidote Tiger Key Enemies: 3 Men with Gladius 2 Men with Axes The name of this area will come into play later, but for now just stay on target. As you cross the narrow bridge, three men with gladius will attack. It is a good idea to dash or jump past these enemies so you don't fall off the edge. Take them down and head into the cave. Two men with axes wait for you, and the front one will drop a small salve. Take them out and jump up on the eastern ledge. Smash the pot up there for an antidote. Next jump over to the other ledge. Smash the statue and another one will fall to the right. Smash the new statue and another one falls to the left. Smash the third and a box falls in the center. Inside this box is the tiger key. Now retun to the bridge. This is located just above the room you need to get to. So instead of backtracking, feel free to jump and glide down to the large landing below. Go to the eastern door and press the action (L3) button twice to set both keys and unlock the door. Pathway Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: 1 Small Healing Salve (1 more will be dropped by an opponent) 1 Medium Healing Salve 1 Large Healing Salve 1 Dragon's Spirit Enemies: 2 Men with Gladius 2 Men with Axes As you venture down the pathway, two men with gladius will try to stop you. Beat them down and proceed. Flanking the exit are two men with axes (one of whom will drop a small salve). Finish them off and the exit torches will ignite. Before running through the exit, take a moment or two to get some of the area's goodies. A large covered pot in the southeast has a medium salve and a large rock against the northeast wall hides a small one. Now return to the entrance and jump up onto a platform on the south wall. Jump to another platform to the northeast. If you have a weapon drawn, put it away and jump to the small ledge to the east. You can't land on it, but you can grab it. Make your way around by hand over hand until you drop on top of a wall. Walk carefully down the wall and smash the pot for a large salve. Jump to the east for a new area and smash the statue for a dragon's spirit. Now take the east exit. Jade Fox's Lair Starting Weapon: Sword/Green Destiny Items: 4 Small Healing Salves 1 Medium Healing Salve 2 Antidotes Enemies: Jade Fox Jade Fox Jade Fox This is it. This is the last round. So, let me get right to the locations of the salves. There is a small salve behind a northwest wall, two smalls behind a northeast wall in pots, a small salve and an antidote are hiding in a group of pots to the east, a medium salve is on the ground in the southeast, and an antidote lies in a pot behind a southern wall. Now, down to business. Fight Jade Fox hard in the first part. She'll fly around and throw poison darts in a very annoying fashion. You can try to dodge by jumping and running, hide behind walls, or just take it like a man. When she's not flying around throwing her little joy darts, she'll run around and try to get her sword on you. Smack her around whenever she gets close. If she jumps straight up, move. As she reaches the peak of the jump, she'll throw poison knives. Just keep slamming her around and when her health is gone a small cut scene will lead you to the next part of the fight. Ten combo blocks and ten special moves, oh and you're also permanently poisoned. No antidotes or restores will cure this poison, so from here on out, keep an eye on your health. At least Jade Fox doesn't fly around anymore, but she does jump like a jack rabbit. Just keep going and try to keep count of blocks and special moves. As the last block/special is completed a message flashes up on the screen. This message signals the third and last part of the fight. The message says, "Defeat Jade Fox." Anything goes now. Keep watching your health and use combos, specials, regular attacks, anything to wear Jade Fox down. This final battle is surprisingly easy, but don't take it for granted for even a second or the Fox will make you hurt. Beat her down and sit back to watch whatever ending you triggered. Save your game twice as it asks. The first will allow you to restart as Jen with all of the characters' experience levels in tact, and the second save will unlock the special mode on the main menu. VII. Endings The following is a list of all the different endings and what triggers are required to unlock them. As a note, Jen's trigger is getting her comb back from Lo; Shu Lien's trigger has so far eluded me; and Li Mu Bai's trigger is finding all four items for the antidote. All known trigger locations and tricks are located in the walkthrough section. Side notes for Shu Lien's trigger: redbead has posed that it is activated by either beating Jen fairly when playing as Li Mu Bai (trigger activated) or by cheating her off the edge of the waterfall (trigger not activated). Also suggested by redbead is that collecting as many antidote flowers as Shu Lien may also be a part of it. My own note is that when Shu Lien's trigger is activated, Li Mu Bai will carry the Green Destiny in his last scene. When her trigger is not activated, Mu Bai will carry a normal Sword. I played through again recently with a save at Li Mu Bai's scene 3. I played through once fighting Jen normally and Shu Lien's trigger was activated. The second time I lured her off the waterfall and Shu Lien's trigger was not activated. I tried to play everything else as similarly as possible. I am convinced that redbead is absolutely correct in identifying this trigger. It has nothing to do with Shu Lien, but go figure. A New Dawn - Jen's trigger, Shu Lien's trigger, and Li Mu Bai's trigger Bittersweet - Shu Lien's trigger Thunder Cloud - Jen's trigger The Path of Wudan - Shu Lien's trigger and Li Mu Bai's trigger Broken Promise - Li Mu Bai's trigger Attonement - Jen's trigger and Shu Lien's trigger (verified by Shunichiro) Love Conquers - Jen's trigger and Li Mu Bai's trigger Dark Days - No ending triggers VIII. Secrets None yet. Just some secret areas which are all located in the walkthrough. In Tsai's camp, there is a large area of the map which seems inaccessible. Any person who finds a way in there, please let me know! Maybe someone can shark it and see what's in there... IX. Thank You's Of course thanks to CJayC for GameFAQ's which is this guide's original home. Thanks go to DarkKnight12 for being the first to tell me about planting the Jing Seed. Thanks also go to New Day Dawning for confirming the Jing Seed info. Thanks to Shunichiro for verifying the triggers needed for the Attonement ending. Big thanks to redbead for possibly nailing Shu Lien's trigger! Thanks to tjm113 for an alternate trick to reaching the Tiger's Claw. I tried to acknowledge people where appropriate in the FAQ, but I wanted to make sure their contributions were known.
