Da Qiao FAQ, by Aeris0wnzYou AKA Vanessa. Version 1.2 4/8/03 (MorriganV@aol.com) [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Updates- 8/05/03 - Added how to unlock the Battle of Xu Chang, Wu side, for Da's weapon, since some people have been attempting to get the weapon from Shu perspective. 4/10/03 - Fixed a few typos, corrected the name of Da's Level 7 - 9 weapon, and added a section under "Moveset" for her Mounted Attacks. I also added some more recommendations on how to, and how not to play her. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] This guide was made by myself, with the help of certain posters on the GameFAQS message board. Most of this, is based on my personal experience using the character, the unlocking and weapon help are from other GameFAQS users. This guide may not be used, distributed, or changed without my consent. It may in no way, shape, or form be SOLD. This FAQ is exclusively available to GameFAQS.com. If you have any questions, comments, or if there's anything else you'd like to know, please contact me at MorriganV@aol.com. Da Qiao has been my favorite character since Dynasty Warriors 3, the original, back in 2001. ^.^ IMO, she's one of the best fighters in the game, as well as one of the most underrated, and in this FAQ, I'll be explaining her moves, costumes, unlocking her, and a guide to obtaining her Level 10 Weapon, Qiao Beauty. This is my first Character FAQ, and I want it to be helpful to Dynasty Warriors 4 fans, so I'll be updating it with new, and useful information about the character, and any questions you might have about her. ^.^ [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Contents [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section I: Da Qiao's In-Game Bio. Section VII: My personal advice in playing as Da Qiao. Section VIII: Author's Closing Comments. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section I -- Da Qiao's In-Game Bio. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] The daughter of Qiao Xuan. She later married Sun Ce of the Wu Kingdom. Together with her younger sister, Xiao Qiao, they were known as two of the world's great beauties, and referred to as, "The Two Qiaos." It is said that their beauty shone brighter than any moon or star, and put the most beautiful flower to shame. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section II - Unlocking Da Qiao. (And Xiao Qiao) [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] The two Qiaos will usually be the last two characters you unlock from Wu. You need to complete a Wu musou mode once. Then, start a new one, and in Act I, choose, "Yellow Turban Fortress" first, then choose, "Yellow Turban Rebellion." After this, you'll be taken to the Wu Tales stage, "The Two Qiaos" where you can rescue them from Dong Zhuo, and they'll become playable in your savefile. I personally didn't have much trouble clearing this level, but a lot of people complain that it's very difficult to keep the two Qiaos alive. The best advice I can give is to play on easy, because they seem to last longer on the easier settings, and more importantly, DO NOT use charge attacks while completing the level. Most people wind up damaging the Qiaos, because they'll do a charge attack, and knock someone into them. These attacks do far more damage than a normal soldier could ever do to them. The level is the same layout as, "The Battle of He Fei" Wu vs. Wei. Locate the two Qiaos on the map, and they'll join up with you. (Da Qiao is inside the castle, Xiao Qiao is outside, on the left path, not far from the center castle entrance.) When they join up with you, clear any soldiers in the area. Within a short time, Dong Zhuo will figure out you're there, and send several generals after you, starting with Niou Fu. Defeat Niou Fu, and when Xiao Qiao suggests you hide somewhere, take her advice, and go off into a corner somewhere, or upstairs, inside the castle. When you do this, the enemy generals searching for you will split up, and they'll be easier for you to handle. Every enemy on the map, with the exception of Guo Si, will head wherever you are to take you out. My best advice for this, is to stay in the castle, rather than going down, and getting ambushed from both sides, stay in a more remote area, perhaps the upstairs castle, and fight off everyone who comes up there. This will be beneficial, because not many enemies will come up after you at once. When you cleared everyone who ambushed the castle, begin to move down the center path, and cross the river towards the bottom of the map, and defeat Guo Si, and his ambush party officer, Li Ru. After this, the stage ends, and both Qiaos become playable. Da Qiao will end the level saying, "Thank you, I am in your debt." ^.^ [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section III - Da Qiao's Moveset. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] A) Basic Attacks: 1) Swings her left fan in front of her, and her right fan to the right, behind her. (S) 2) Swings her right fan in front of her, and her left fan to the left, behind her. (SS) 3) Swings both fans in front of her, aiming them downwards, crouching slightly. (SSS) 4) Does two full 360's, holding her fans out to the sides, usually hitting any enemy close to her. (SSSSS) 5) Does a backflip, tossing her fans behind her, so they'll clear out any enemies near her, while she throws herself out of harm's way. (SSSSSS) B) Charge Attacks: 1) Turns away, holding her fans up as she does so, then turns to face the enemy again, in a 360 twirl, sending out a projectile towards them. (A single elemental ball, or three smaller ones, depending on what element you use.) (T) 2) Knocks the enemy up into the air with her left fan. (ST) 3) Begins a series of swipes with her fan, moving them from side to side, one at a time, in front of her, hitting the enemy several times, finishing it with a spin. (SST) 4) Flies forward, holding her fans out to the sides, knocking enemies over. (SSST) 5) Knocks the enemy up into the air again with her left fan, then leaps up after them, knocking them back down with both fans held vertically in front of her. (SSSST) 6) Same as her jump charge, a little wind forcefield appears around her, knocking enemies away, as she holds her fans together, to the right, vertically, spinning slightly, then crouches down, holding her fans downward, in front of her legs. (SSSSST) C) Other Moves: Musou: Da's musou is the same as DW3, where she stands in one place, and the player can control the direction she levitates her fans in, aiming it in one area, or spinning it in circles. She yells out, "Move, please!" Running Attack: Rushes forward, putting her two fans together, horizontally, aiming for anyone in front of her. Jump Attack: Leaps into the air, similar to her charge 4, and holds both fans out to her sides, laying vertically in the air with her legs out, before she lands. Jump Charge: Leaps into the air, doing a little flip, then on the way down, a little wind forcefield appears around her, knocking enemies away, as she holds her fans together, to the right, vertically, spinning slightly, then crouches down, holding her fans downward, in front of her legs. Taunt: Da yells out, "I am here!" while putting her left hand on her hip, bending her knees slightly, fluttering her right fan out in front of her, horizontally. D) Mounted Attacks: Basic Mounted Combo: Da throws both fans downward toward enemies on her right in a circular motion, after she catches them again, she flings them to the left, beginning a string of six consecutive attacks, although they're all the same. Mounted Charge Attack: Da arches her back, holding her arms out to the sides, before flinging her two fans in front of her, the left fan flying to the left, and the right fan flying to the right, before they make a round trip, and she catches them as they fly toward her from behind. Mounted Musou Attack: Da's mounted musou is the same as her basic mounted combo, except much faster, and it lasts until her musou bar runs out. Mounted Taunt: Da holds her right fan off to the side, and her left fan in front of her, before twirling them both to the left, and saying, "I am here!" [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section IV - Da Qiao's Weapons. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] A)First Weapon, Level 1 - 3: Twin Fans: Two basic, small, off-white, yellowish colored fans. Four hit weapon. +12 Level 1, +15 Level 2, +18 Level 3. B)Second Weapon, Level 4 - 6: Violet Fans: Slightly larger than the Twin Fans, with a purplish-white mixed design on them, and gold accenting. +27 Level 4, + 30 Level 5, +33 Level 6. C) Third Weapon, Level 7 - 9: True Beauty: Deep, full purple fans, with more gold accenting than the previous. Large gold flowers on the edges, with turquoise jewels in the center. +36 Level 7, +39 Level 8, +42 Level 9. D) Final Weapon: Level 10. Please check Section VI on obtaining this. Qiao Beauty: Red fans, with gold leaf, almost feather like accenting on the edges. The rim has fancy gold edging like her previous weapon, too. On the golden feather-leaf designs, there's a small blue jewel. +50 Level 10. (Yes, +50 is the lowest you can get for a Level 10 weapon, but they only gave it to her, because of how good she is. :P She doesn't need the bonus strength, anyway!) [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section V - Da Qiao's Costumes. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Costume 1: Default costume. Da's pigtails are now rolled up into a small twisted design. Her hair accessory is a half flower, with gold accenting, and she has a thin, gold chain on her forehead, connecting to her hair ornaments. She wears a red shiny vest, with gold accenting. Underneath it, is a blue, slight bell-sleeved blouse, and the trimming on the sleeves are gold and red, and cream. Her skirt is royal blue, and it's pleaded slightly, with a diagonal slope, making it slightly longer on one side. She wears cream colored shimmery socks, that end before her knees, and little red and gold slippers, with blue on the tips. Costume 2: Color change for Costume 1. Her hair ornament becomes light pink, her sleeves become a shimmery light pinkish cream color, her skirt becomes purple, and her socks become a speckled reddish white design. (6,000 Character Points for this costume) Costume 3: Similar to costume 1 & 2, with a few differences. Her hair is new pulled to the side of her head into two small buns, with a large flower design hair ornament in front of each one. The petals are red and blue. (Sort of like a half daisy.) Her socks are shorter, and her skirt is longer. She has a small piece of red fabric around her left thigh, in a weird little twisty design. (You need 20,000 character points for costumes 3 & 4) Costume 4: Costume #3, with the color swap that costume #2 has. Costume 5: Her original DW3 costume. She has her long pigtails again, except they're much longer this time. I'm sure if you're actually reading this, you've seen this costume before! (Still my favorite costume.) Costume 6: Color change for costume #5. The upper shoulder and collar area of her dress is now white. The center stripe down the middle of her dress is pale blue. The rest of the dress is red, and where her long bell sleeves begin to drape out, the red fades into a pink. Her boots are a shimmery white, with red accenting, and her hair ornaments become a light, almost whitish pink. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section VI - Da Qiao's Level 10 Weapon. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] I personally found this to be a difficult weapon to obtain. The specific requirements are: Battle of Xu Chang, Wu side. Defeat Dian Wei, and his two officers, Deng Ai and Hu Zhi. NOTE: You MUST be playing on Wu side, with Sun Jian as your commander. I'm adding this to the FAQ, because I've noticed a lot of people attempting to get the weapon with Liu Bei as their commander. If you want to unlock the Battle of Xu Chang, for Wu side, during the Battle of Chi Bi, don't let Zhuge Liang's wind prayer SUCCEED. Either defeat Cao Cao before he summons the wind, or let the enemy officers in his area destroy the altar before he can. (Yue Jin, and his sub officer Li Dian are in his area) I actually obtained this weapon using two players, so rather than rip off someone else's 1P strategy, I'll use my own, since 2P didn't do much anyway. You could also convert this for one person, by putting in a little extra work on 1P's part, and you'll need a saddle, trust me. 1P = Da Qiao. At the start of the level, 2P went up from the center of the level, and killed Man Chong. 1P went to Cao Xiu and Zhen Ji's gates, defeated both of them, and opened the two gates. At this point, the Cloud Ladders arrived, and 2P stuck by Sun Jian, protecting him, while 1P protected the Cloud Ladders by defeating Cao Hong, then Xiahou Dun. (Cao Hong is Xiahou Dun's sub-officer.) At this point, ambush party Xu Zhu and his officer showed up at the base camp, attacking Zhuge Jin. 2P went back to the basecamp, and defeated Xu Zhu and his officer, while 1P went to kill Dian Wei's officers, Deng Ai and Hu Zhi. (Da Qiao must defeat them both, herself.) We then get Sima Yi's message, "Both attacks have failed?" 1P then enters the castle, and defeats Pang De and his officer, Xin Pi. (It might be necessary that Da Qiao defeats both of them herself, before defeating Dian Wei.) Cao Cao's second ambush party, his sub officer Jia Kui attacks base camp where Zhuge Jin is, and 2P defeats him. 1P then finally goes to Dian Wei, and defeats him, and we receive the Qiao Beauty message. At this point, I went straight to Cao Cao, and defeated him alone, ignoring Sima Yi, his officer, and Cao Cao's remaining officer. NOTES: Another good method, might be to have 2P be Sun Jian. Even if Sun Jian doesn't help defeat any bosses, or do anything in the level, it's almost impossible to lose the level that way, since the only way it could happen is when 1P or 2P dies, themselves. My brother was playing as Xiahou Dun when we got this weapon. You MUST have Da Qiao's Level 9 Weapon, and it's highly recommended that you max her out, or at least have her close to max. (Xu Chang is one of the most difficult battles in the game, even on easy settings.) [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section VII - My thoughts on playing Da Qiao. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Da Qiao, IMO, is an all around, good character to play as. She's not one of the "powerhouse" characters, she's more about speed, and agility, but she can still keep up with the best of them. I find myself sticking with Da Qiao's basic SSSSSS move when playing as her, because those are her most damaging attacks, and her attack speed is very quick, so I can usually finish people off very quickly. I especially love her last S move, because she throws herself out of harm's way, tossing her fans in a circular fashion behind her, watching her back. The string of hits I usually do the most with her is SST, knocking the enemy into the air, then I finish it with her basic SSSSSS. On easier settings, with a maxed out Da Qiao, with her Level 10 Weapon, I can usually have most bosses dead before I finish the combo. (With the exception of demon bosses, like Lu Bu at Hu Lao Gate, and Gan Ning in Xia Kou.) I don't really care for her first charge, I find that her projectile doesn't really travel too far, and the little spin she does before it creates a lag time. The attack itself doesn't do much damage at all, so I would stay away from it when playing her. Her new last charge, the wind attack, is good if you're in a large crowd, because most soldiers usually won't block it, but I don't recommend using it on bosses. They'll block it frequently, and her little pose at the end will leave her open at times. When fighting bosses, I would stick with Da's basic SSSSSS. She can attack the boss very quickly, without giving him a chance to block, and if any peons are creeping up on you, the last move will knock them away, and you'll usually land somewhere safe. When it comes to Da's mounted attacks, well I usually stay away from these. She's definitely meant to be a ground fighter, where she can utilize her speed to it's fullest. Her mounted attacks only aim downward, and when someone jumps up at her, she'll be vulnerable. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Section VIII - Author's Closing Comments. [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] I hope you find this FAQ useful. If you think it sucks, that's fine too, you're entitled to your opinion, and no one is stopping you from pressing the little X in the upper right hand corner of the window. This FAQ wouldn't have been possible without the help of many people, and the GameFAQs message board, especially. First off, I'd like to thank Xiao Qiao (The GameFAQs poster, not the character :P) for keeping me, as well as many others drooling over Dynasty Warriors 4 before it came out, providing us with helpful information about our favorite characters, the Qiaos! Also, thank you for helping me finally obtain Da's Level 10 weapon in the end. Your incite has been invaluable! I'd also like to thank Muni Shinobu, for all the hard work he does on his site, and here, creating FAQs for just about everything you can do in the game. Even if others don't appreciate your work, I do! I'd also like to thank everyone who made my thread, "How are the Qiaos in DW4" successful, I don't think I would have been inspired to write this FAQ without the massive 500 replies it hit. Talking to you all was fun. :) Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to thank my boyfriend, Mikey, for introducing me to the Dynasty Warriors series, way back when in 2001. Thank you for helping me find HP, in Yellow Turban Rebellion, so I wouldn't die. :P I love you! [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Please check back for updates, and thank YOU for actually reading this! :)
