Sun Quan History Sun Quan was the second son of Sun Jian and younger brother of Sun Ce. In the fifth year of Rebuilt Tranquility (AD 200), Sun Ce died and passed over the seal of rule to his younger brother Quan. Cao Cao gave him the rank of General who Annihilates Barbarians and Governor of Kuai Ji. Together with talented men such as Zhou Yu, Lu Su and Zhang Zhao, Sun Quan effectively ruled the land of Jiang Dong and turned it into a wealthy and safe area. Sun Quan received much praised from others and attracted many scholars and warriors to his land. In the seventh year of Rebuilt Tranquility (AD 202), after Cao Cao defeated Yuan Shao and controlled the north, he sent a letter to Sun Quan, demanding him to send a son to serve the Emperor. After thinking about it for a long time, Sun Quan refused the demand as it was seen as an attempt to control Wu from Xu Chang. During a period of five years (AD 203 – 208), Sun Quan launched three campaigns against Huang Zu, and eventually killed him for participating in the murder of Sun Jian. In the thirteenth year of Rebuilt Tranquility (AD 208), Sun Quan allied with Liu Bei in an attempt to deter Cao Cao from the Southlands. Though Cao Mengde commanded an army of eight hundred thirty thousand troops, he suffered heavy casualties at the hand of Zhou Yu and Sun Quan’s armies. In AD 214, Sun Quan fought over Jing Zhou with Liu Bei, but with the threat of Cao Cao’s armies in Northern Jing Zhou, Sun Quan realized the importance of allying with Shu temporarily. In the twenty-fourth year of Rebuilt Tranquility (AD 219), Sun Quan approved of Lu Meng’s plan to capture Jing Zhou and in the process had Guan Yu and his son, Guan Ping, killed. For this Cao Mengde bestowed the title of Lord of Nanchang. A year later, Cao Pi succeeded Cao Cao as ruler of Wei and declared himself Emperor. In an act of revenge, Liu Bei led his army against Wu in that same year, threatening Wu’s position. Sun Quan accepted the Nine Dignities of Cao Pi’s rule and officially approved with the removal of the Han and the Wei Empire (2). When Shu’s invasion came with some seven hundred thousand troops, Wu’s Lu Xun successfully repelled them and sent Liu Bei back to Yi Zhou. In AD 229, Sun Quan proclaimed himself Emperor at Wuchang and made an alliance with the Shu Empire. He also honored the accomplishments of his family by bestowing Sun Ce with the posthumous title of King of Chang Sha, and Sun Jian was revered as Martially Glorious Emperor. Zhongmou died in the year AD 252 at the age of seventy. He was buried at Jiang Ling. He received the title of Great Emperor, posthumously. ------------ III. Pros/Cons of Using Pros: -good crowd clearer -good charge attacks -Musou attack is very powerful, and it never juggles Cons: -speed isn't the best -a limited beginning attack -low starting life It may seem like I'm biased toward him, but I'm not! Sun Quan is a very good overall character, and is one of my favorites. His attack needs some tweaking along with his life, but otherwise, he is an excellent character. His Musou is awesome, and can clear crowds faster than many characters, and it also has use with officers, since it dosen't juggle. He has a sword, but oddly is an excellent choice for annihilating groups. He can dispatch loners with realitive ease, and a small crowd is nothing. Use him enough and he willl become an ultimate character..or at least be great. ------------ IV. Stats Attack-average Okay, but I've seen better. Life- below average Really, it's okay, but there is better out there. Musou- average basically the same as everyone else. Defense- average again, same as most. Possibly higher, but for the most part, average. Sun Quan excels in crowd clearing, not attack, defense, or musou. He can take some hits before going down, and his Musou attack is great, but he is hard to use unless you study his attacks. With the correct attacks, he can annihilate near any enemy in a couple attacks. When he achieves his Level 10 Weapon, he becomes a nearly unstoppable force. So, try out Sun Quan, because he is a better character than you think. ------------ V. Attack List S=square T=triangle T- Grabs an enemy, then hits him up and slices twice. ST- Uppercut. Cuts an enemy into the air. SST- Cheap combo attack. Depending on your weapon level, he will keep slashing over and over again, and ends it with a blow away attack. SSST- Blow away attack. Hits all enemies in front of and behind Sun Quan. SSSST- Uppercut, then leaps up to smash them to the ground. SSSSST- Musou wave. Sends a crisscross of powered Musou to annihilate all nearby enemies and people in the way of the musou wave. Dash Attack (run+S): Broad slash. Cuts down all enemies in front. Horse attack (mounted+S): same as always...back and forth... Charge Horse Attack (mounted+T): again, same as always. Musou Attack (hold O): 6 slashes, ending with a seventh, more powerful and broad slash. ------------ VI. Combating Sun Quan When facing off against Sun Quan, your best bet is to either block for a liitle while, and then strike out. You could also attack with a counter hit, if you can. Onbe important thing to remember when facing him is that once you get him into a combo, you willl win. He will never have the time or opportunity to block. Another thing to remember is that he is slow, so if he is running, you can probably catch him. When you do, make sure to keep attacking. Dueling against Sun Quan is easy. Just never relent on the attack. Just keep using your characters SST move, since the last hit dazes the enemy. Keep to it, because occaisionaly he will combo you. It also depends on what difficulty you are dueling him on. Beginner-Medium is decently easy, while Hard-Extreme will make Sun Quan a heavy hitter. Watch it if your playing on the latter, because he will not hesitate to destroy your Musou attack with blocks, and then counteract it with his own Musou. ------------ VII. Level 10 Weapon Weapon : Master Wolf Attack : +53 Method : Defeat Yue Jin and Li Dian. There is a time limit for both of them, but I am still not completely sure about it. I went through a couple trials and discovered that you must defeat them before 2:20- 2:30 after they appear. If you fail to defeat one before then (i.e, 2:53 on Li Dian), the weapon will not be gotten. There isn't really a strategy for doing this, except for things like saving the Axe power-ups until you are closer to Yue Jin, and attacking quickly and not bothering with soldiers. You also must finish the legend. ------------ VIII. Level 11 Weapon Weapon: Legacy Method: Defeat Zhang Liao 3 times, get 500 KOs, and only one ally officer may die. This is a considerably difficult task, since not only are you playing on Extreme Mode, but Zhang Liao is just plain good. Save the axes/armors that you get until Zhang Liao comes around, then kill him and take his All Recov. item. When he reappears, take his horse that you got from killing him first, and ride it toward where he appeared. Make sure that no soldiers hurt you, because you need all the life you can get. Beat him again and take his All Recov. (I'm guessing you need it) and then start tearing apart soldiers. You can't forget that you need to have 500 KOs, and when your health is low, Musou-run, Musou-run. The strategy is to run away, then when your gauge is fully charged, turn around and Musou. Repeat until you see a meat bun, and then get it. Kill Zhang Liao (if you must, by the Musou-run Method), and ride off into the sunset. ------------ IX. Orbs and Good Items for Sun Quan These are just a couple of recommendations for Sun Quan. Orbs: Vorpal or Lightning Vorpal is just plain great...killing large groups of people quickly. Lightning creates an easy way to get through a crowd. Harness: Red Hare, Shadow Red Hare is fast, and Shadow is just great. Items: Peacock Urn: life MAX up -more life is always good Elixer: Musou gauge fills quicker -Musou attack is always good, and especially when you use it alot Power Scroll: never lose weapon locks -just plain good...get priority upon your enemies Herbal Remedy: charge attack power up -awesome. Charge does 20-50% more damage Speed Scroll: speed up -travel faster Meat Bun Sack: meat bun drop rate increases -more useful than it seems Tiger Amulet: attack up -attack power up? Duh, this rocks! Seven Star Sash: luck up -better items are a good thing ------------ X. Sun Quan Extras Costumes 1: Default for DW4:XL 2: Default, but purple-ish 3: Costume 1 with a turban 4: Costume 2 with a turban 5: DW3 outfit 6: DW3 secondary outfit -please correct me if I'm wrong! Sun Quan Legend Goal: Escape area This legend is EXTREMELY easy on all difficulties, unless your attempting to get the Level 10/11 Weapons. Otherwise, just head north (you don't even have to kill anyone) until you meet Yue Jin, and kill him (it will pay off). Don't bother sealing any strongholds on the way, since this stage has an unlimited supply of soldiers. Head to the bridge, and you will see it get destroyed. You must get a horse...but how? A minute or so later, a cutscene will reveal Zhang Liao on the offensive. Stand around, rack up some KOs, and eventually, Zhang Liao will ride over on a horse. Kill him (or don't, you don't need to) and mount his horse. Ride to the end (where you killed Yue Jin) and toward the bridge. Sun Quan's horse will jump the bridge, ending the mission. ***Precious Item: Musou Armor. You can get this by killing Zhang Liao and enough soldiers. Check another FAQ for the specifics, but the supply unit enters through the western-most stronghold. Kill the Supply Captain and you get the item. ------------ XI.
