When Liu Bei was being pursued through Jing Zhou, Wei Yan was the Prefect of Xiang Yang. Wenchang intended to welcome Liu Bei into the city and add his forces to his own. However Liu Bei went to Liu Qi instead. Seeing no future with Liu Biao, Wei Yan was forced to go to Han Xuan in the south of Jing Zhou and offer his service to him. Later on when Liu Bei attacked Changsha, Wei Yan and Huang Zhong defended against the attack. However, Huang Zhong did not want to fight Guan Yu and let him go. Han Xuan was enraged and planned to have Huang Zhong killed under military law, however before that could happen, Wei Yan killed Han Xuan and surrendered to Liu Bei with Huang Zhong. Wenchang followed Liu Bei in the attack on Yi Zhou he was appointed as Garrison Commander. When Liu Bei defeated Liu Zhang and took over the Imperial Protectorate, he promoted Wei Yan to General Who Wages Successful War. In the twenty-fourth year of Rebuilt Tranquility (AD 219), Liu Bei proclaimed himself King of Hanzhong and subsequently appointed Wei Yan as the Prefect of Hanzhong, and put him in charge of the defense of eastern Shu. When Liu Bei ascended the throne as Emperor of Shu, Wei Yan was promoted to General Who Guards the North. When Liu Shan succeeded his father as Emperor two years later in AD 223, Wei Yan was titled Lord of the Capital Precinct. After Zhuge Liang began his northern campaigns against Wei, Wenchang was successively promoted to Corps Commander of the Forward Army, Prefect of Liangzhou, Commander of the Ministerial Forces, Great General Who Conquers the West and titled Lord of Nanzhen. Wei Yan was a member of Zhuge Liang’s inner circle of friends and plays a prominent role in the northern campaigns. Wenchang urges Kongming to strike Chang An directly, however the cautious Kongming decided to maneuver through Longyou instead and did not succeed in capturing any cities. Later many people thought that perhaps Wei Yan’s plan had merit. Though Wei Yan was one of the few who supported Zhuge Liang’s war policy, Kongming does not trust him. When Zhuge Liang launched a surprise attack against Sima Yi at Shangfang gorge, Wei Yan was appointed as the Vanguard general. Zhuge Liang intended to burn both Wei Yan and Sima Yi with a fire attack, but the heavy rains prevented this. Sima Yi escapes and Wei Yan protests against Zhuge Liang’s methods. Zhuge Liang then arranged to have Wei Yan executed after his own death. After Zhuge Liang died, Wei Yan intended to send his body home and continue the attack on Wei. However, Zhuge Liang’s last orders were to turn the vanguard into the rearguard and issue a retreat. Wei Yan refused the order and a crisis erupts in the Shu camps. Eventually, Ma Dai slays Wei Yan on account of treason. In Game Bio - He served under Liu Biao until his death, at which point he joined Liu Bei. At that time, despite his rebellious spirit, and the dissaproval of Zhuge Liang, Liu Bei took him in as one of his own, eventually promoting him. He later went on to continue the line of the Five Shu Tiger Generals with his bravery and was a major force in the Shu efforts to take the north. (Note: Wei Yan wasn't actually a Tiger General) Wei Yan 175AD to 234AD (59 Years) ------------- 3) Statistics -This is a starting level (Fresh) Wei Yan Life: He has alright life. It's not the highest, but still good. Musou: Not great but good enough for his musou. Attack: Pretty high for starting out. He can dish it out when he needs to. Defense: With high attack comes defence loss. Speed: Faster than you expected. Reach: Good because of his weapon. Mounted Attack: Side to side attacks like most characters. Overall: - My best character by far Crowd Clearing: One of the best in the game in my opinion. Dueling: Combination of all the above stats and how good you are. -------------- 4) Moves - Square button (s) - press it 6 times for a combo that goes left and right and eventually ends up whacking everyone around him. (Note that it only actually hits forward but because of Wei Yan's weapons, it hits most things near him. Charge 1 - Triangle (t) - Wei Yan does a double somersault into the enemy with weapon flying. It's ok but low damage. Good for leading into small groups of enemies with. Charge 2 - s,t - Wei Yan hits them once and then uppercuts them with the other end of his twin halberd. basic floater, allows combos after it. Low damage. Not that good Charge 3 - s,s,t - Wei Yan spins on the floor and is like a small chainsaw. It makes Wei Yan invincible for a moment and it combos and leaves the enemy stunned after the final hit if it didn't die. On an equal with Lu Bu's charge 2. One of the best move in the game. Charge 4 - s,s,s,t - Wei Yan spins 270(?) degrees standing up with his halberd outstretched knocking most enemies away from him in 1 blow. Charge 5 - s,s,s,s,t - Wei Yan uppercuts them again but this time you can press t again for a follow up attack, which is a slash uppercut from the opposite end of his halberd. Charge 6 - s,s,s,s,s,t - Wei Yan spins his halberd round his head and finishes with a large spin slash. This is a 360 degree move so all enemies near him will be hit. Good for crowds. Musou - Circle button when gauge is full - Wei Yan spins around like a madman and bashes everything out the way. It only combos if you have the enemy up against the wall. True Musou - Circle when gauge is full and health is red - Wei Yan does the same as above except he adds a few normal hits on the end of it and fire element is added for extra smackdown Horse Attack - Usual slash right then left....yawn Horse Charge - Spins his halberd left then right Air Strike - Just a slah from right to left in midair. Air Charge - The usual jump up, slam weapon in ground attack. Taunt - (R3 button) ........Die Analysis of Moves - For Wei Yan its best to get stuck in. Use the normal square combo and charges 3 and 4 for high damage and crowd control. In duels dont use charge 4 but stick with charge 3 for comboing ability and stun at the end. Musou should be used against crowds or if your very good try to combo a general/commander. It is quite hard if you dont know how to control it. I suggest ground combat for all occasions because he is pathetic on a horse. -------------- 5) Unlocking Wei Yan starts out selectable on DW4 XL ON DW4 you have to unlock him by clearing chapter 4 of Shu musou mode. (This can be done with any character of Shu). -------------------------- 6) 10th Level Weapon Acquisition (Got to be on hard mode or higher) DW4 Xtreme legends way of getting it: Name: Comet Strike Attack: +57 Stage: Wei Yan's legend Requirements: Get 50 KO's in under 4 minutes Credit to Muni Shinobu or the DW4 version of getting it is: Method = Defeat Xing Daorong, defeat Liu Du and Liu Xian, but do not defeat Jin Xuan (decline duel). Defeat Han Xuan's sub general Yang Ling, and defeat Huang Zhong. When Wei Yan and Huang Zhong defect, Wei Yan will earn the Lv 10 weapon. Credit to Muni Shinobu --------------- 7) 11th Level Weapon Acquisition Name: Meteor Strike Attack: +60 Add-on Items: Lvl 18 Peacock Urn, Lvl 14 Nanman Armour, Lvl 16 cavalry armour, lvl 19 Herbal Remedy Stage: Wei Yan's Legend Map: Wu Zhang Plains Restrictions: No bodyguards Requirements: Before Zhuge Liang launches an attack at Wei Yan (2:00), defeat Xiahou He, Xiahou Wei and Xiahou Hui in any order. Note: Try equipping a level 4 Vorpal Orb and the Power Rune because time is very tight. After getting the weapon, expose Xiahou Ba's ambush at the west of the castle. Defeat him and the level ends. You don't need to fight the Shu officers. Alternate method: Fail to defeat the three Wei officers. Defeat all Shu officers and get to 200 KOs after Zhuge Liang orders an attack on Wei Yan. If you do not kill Wang Ping, you need to get an extra 100 KOs . There is a certain time limit to kill Guan Xing and bridge the river. Credit to The Left Wings and Muni Shinobu for that info. --------------- 8) Costumes 1. The original costume - white skin - tribal looking 2. Same clothes - different colours - dark skin - white hair 3. Colours same as first costume - Wacky Hairdo 4. Colours same as second costume - Wacky Hairdo 5. Old school Wei Yan from DW3 - Looks more tribal with mixed colours. 6. DW3 XL costume - Same as fifth costume but black and green ----------- 9) Orbs and Wei Yan This is my opinion on orbs. Some may work better for you. In my personal favourite order 1. Fire - Suits his personality 2. Vorpal - Killer 3. Lightning - Builds on his crowd cleaing abilities 4. Ice - Slows em down for a beating 5. Poison - Bit rubbish 6. Blast - Only if its the only orb you have. ----------- 10) Recommended Equipment Saddle: Use any horse saddle but dont use elephants as they are too slow. Shadow is probably best and looks pretty good with Wei Yans 6th costume. Orb: Fire Items: He only has 4 slots but i'll list some of the best. Tiger Amulet - Strength is king Tortoise Amulet - Defence is very important too Peacock Urn - Do you really want to die that fast? Speed Scroll - Speed increases the speed of killing things Wind Scroll - Increases range and therefore more dead people. Secret of Orbs - More elemental is good War Drum - Morale is important in long battles so use this. Power Rune - The best defence is to go on the offensive. Herbal Remedy - Charge Attacks are good Elixer - Musou is good ------------ 11) Wei Yan's legend This is a extra stage at the Wu Zhang plains. Under Construction ------------ 12) Wei Yans defection on DW4 I added this because people ask about it a lot. It's on the Battle of Cheng Du If you are Wei you can get Wei Yan to defect. To do this, do NOT go near Wei Yan. Wait untill Yue Ying and Zhuge Liang scold Wei Yan for not following orders, then take Luo Castle.
