Use this along with MP | absorb and technique usage exemption to get the best | results in tough battles ***************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************** |COMBINING GEMS AND SKILLS PLATES SYSTEM [CGL1]| ***************************************************************************** NOTE: I transferred this small section from my walkthrough faq over to here because it falls under the same category of gems and skill plates, plus the Japanese characters added in are(hopefully) going to make the explanations less confusing. I realize that there will always be questions asking how such things work, even after reading the software manual, so I'll do some explanations here. --->Gems Equipping gems will increase various stats or give you certain bonuses such as increased chances of critical hits, reduced magic/physical dmg incurred and so on. You'll have to look at the descriptions at the bottom of the screen (press Square button to select the bonus) to know what they do. Bonuses with a number beside them represent bonuses that can be accumulated(in other words, increase their levels), highest level in most cases being 9. To increase the levels, you'll need to have other gems with the same bonuses. I'll give an easy example below: (1)a gem with Attack3(攻撃3) in slot 2 and Stamina2(体力2) in slot 3 Attack(攻撃) and Stamina(体力) are what I mention as bonuses above. Here, this gem has a level 3 Attack and level 2 Stamina bonus. (2)a gem with Barrier1(阻壁1) in slot 1 and Attack1(攻撃1) in slot 2 (3)a gem with Defense1(防御1) in slot 1, Attack1(攻撃1) in slot 2 and Magic strength1(魔力1) in slot 4 To increase the effect of Attack, we will combine (1) and (2), after impact occurs(during battles or using the impact drug) on the gem combination board, we will have: (4) a gem with slot 1:Barrier1(阻壁1), slot 2:Attack 4(攻撃4) and slot 3: Stamina2(体力2) To further add on to the bonuses, we will combine (4) with (3), however, the slots 1 for both gems are occupied and yet with different bonuses(barrier and protect, you can only combine similar ones) and so we cannot combine the gem normally as each gem can only have 1 bonus type in each slot, therefore if we forcefully combine the 2 gems, we will get a gem with EITHER barrier1 OR defense1 in slot 1, Attack 5 in slot2, stamina2 in slot 3 and magic strength1 in slot 4 and whichever slot 1 bonus that is not brought over is gone for good. To avoid that, we can first divide gem 3(by using the gem dividing drug) to remove the Protect1 bonus and we will obtain: (5)gem with Defense1(防御1) in slot 1 AND (6)another gem with Attack1(攻撃1) in slot 2 and magic strength1(魔力1) in slot 4 With this, we can combine (6) and (4) and use (5) to combine with another gem that has the Defense bonus. We can repeat this process until we get a final gem with Attack9 and continue to do the same for the other bonuses. Every gem has 4 slots. However, take note that the Attack bonus will always take up the 2nd slot in any gems and the Stamina bonus always in the 3rd slot and so on, meaning positions are fixed(Refer to my gem bonus list in this guide). The idea is to divide and combine gems with 4 desired bonuses that you want your characters to have. Each character can equip 2 gems. Bonuses with no accompanying numbers cannot be accumulated. Try various combinations and keep experimenting. You can't get something wrong till there's no going back, so long as you have enough impact(インパクト薬) and gem dividing drug (ジェム分解薬) with you. One thing to take note is that you must place your gems in the correct columns (additional gem or main gem), no matter what bonus level of the additional gem is, it will only add on ONE(1) level to the main gem bonus, e.g: putting Attack6 gem in the additional gem column and Attack2 in the main gem column, the level of the bonus after combination will become Attack3(1 level from additional + 2 levels in main), but if you place it the other way round, the result will be Attack7(1 level from additional + 6 levels in main). For jewels such as emerald, ruby and so on. You can combine them together or combine with a gem to get various items(e.g: gale apple) and various gem effects(e.g: increasing the level of a gem bonus). You have to try this out for yourself because there are plenty of obtainable combinations and they are really random. --->Skill plate system The skill plate system is similar to the one in Growlanser V, perhaps only more balanced and easier to manipulate for those who can't understand the logic behind it, since this time round there are 2 flow paths instead of 1. Press the Square button bring up the ability tree and you can attach plates to the empty blocks to learn techniques, abilities and magic. The flow positions will change depending on what weapon and armor you are equipping(if the flow path color of your weapon and armor is the same, they will get combined in 1). I'm never an expert in laying out the plates in the most efficient way and never bothered to do so nor read the tutorial and so on, but I seriously don't understand how can anyone make the wrong moves with this system unless they completely don't understand how the thing work at all. Therefore I will give a suggestion and that is: to always check out your existing learning progress of the attached skill plates BEFORE equipping new available weapon+armor BEFORE attaching new plates. Remember and do these 3 steps, and you'll have no more problems...and hopefully no complaints as well. You can only get ONE(1) plate of each magic/technique/ability from your weapon/armor. Example: you can only get 1 Fire Arrow plate, and once obtained, you won't get another(even by using any manuals/scrolls), it is fixed, so feel free to replace your equipment with something else once you have gotten 1 of each skill an equipped weapon/armor gave. When a plate has reached Level 5(the highest level for 1 plate), it will remain and never drop(of course unless you remove the plate from the tree). The bonus here is via the flow paths, if there is 1 flow path flowing through a maximum Level 5 plate. 1 level is being added. E.g: Both flow paths are flowing through a LV 5 Fire Arrow plate, the level will become 5 + 2(2 flow paths) = 7 In other words, by right it is impossible to reach the maximum skill level 9. In this case here, you will have to get the special item [Limit Removal] (限定解除) and using it will do just what the name says: remove the 1 plate limit and give you a 2nd plate for the particular one you chose to replicate. The item itself is pretty rare in the main game, but you can get it via participating in the Coliseum. And please don't come telling me how it's ridiculous that you can only obtain the item in the later parts of the game because...this IS an RPG and and do you expect them to give you your 1st/highest level items at the early parts of the game? Well, that aside though, I can assure you that beating the main game without using any limit removals is more than possible. Due to all the above, this system only requires you to use a lil bit of your brain to place the plates because whether you have a flow path through the completed level 5 plates or not, you will still need a 2nd plate to reach the maximum. Of course, by all means set it up however you want it to be using the items available which can change and divide flow paths. ***************************************************************************** | Q&A [QAA1]| ***************************************************************************** Q: I get weird symbols all over this guide. A: You will need to change your browser encoding to Shift-JIS. Q: What does the various enchant gems do? A: You combine them together to get gems(if you notice, some gems have two colored circles showing something like: O+O), when combining with common gems, you get random effects(which are listed in the description for each type of enchant gem). Q: What does the characteristic of the enchant gems have to do with the combination effects? A: If you look over the common gem list, you will realize that slot 1 has more physical strengthening abilities while slot 4 has more of magic/spell related abilities. Though you can combine any type of enchant gem with most types of common gems, if you are aiming to strengthen/level up a 3rd slot bonus, you should combine with Turquoise to increase your chances. Same thing goes for the rest. Q: Where can I obtain enchant gems? A: The Coliseum tug battle Sheriltia match gives 1 of each enchant gem. Enemies drop them as well. Sometimes random enchant+common gem combinations will create another enchant gem but that is no doubt pointless. The randomly generated treasure chests in the optional dungeon will also give you some but don't count on that unless you have a lot of free time to meddle around in the dungeon. Q: What does the crap Ivaldi etc do!? A: I don't know. Okay okay, I spent 15 minutes testing them out and discovered that Ivaldi allows my character to deal a higher attack to the enemy. Ord-leril a higher magic damage and the Silver emblem increase mgc defense for all elements(this one is obvious). All those I already wrote under the description in my list. Apparently it's not just that though. After doing much searching, I finally found a place which explains the effects of the 3 abilities: ***IMPORTANT NOTE: All words within the [[ ]] brackets below are my translation of the information I found on 35.atwiki.jp and NO part of it is mine.
