Introduction ------------------- THIS IS FOR THE DREAMCAST VERSION OF SPACE CHANNEL 5. THIS IS NOT FOR THE PLAYSTATION 2 VERSION OF SPACE CHANNEL 5! Hello. This is my first FAQ. This is also the first Space Channel 5 FAQ with a *complete* walkthrough (not mini-walkthrough). I am tired of seeing snooze FAQs and so I decided to write one about one of the Dreamcast’s best games: Space Channel 5. For those idiots who don’t know (and you should), SC5 is a game similar to simon-says, but not so drab. This game requires you to keep moving and hold a beat, all the while switching buttons and directions. THIS IS VERSION 3.1 History V3.1 ~Updated Space Channel 5 Part 2 Section ~Updated Merchandise section V3.0 ~Removed Profiles section due to lack of submissions. Sorry James! ~Added Who is Apollo Smile? section ~Updated Merchandise ~Updated About, Copyrights section V2.9 ~The hidden part of Level 3 has been solved! ~Added details on the 100% code V2.7 (not released) ~Added an oddity ~Corrected textual flaws throught the whole FAQ ~Added details to Levels 1 & 3 walkthroughs ~Added the Morolian Syndicate to the Characters V2.6 ~Verified the 100% code. This is the first FAQ on the web with a full walkthrough! V0.5 ~Put the basic levels together and added most of the characters ~Completed the Cameos ~Setup the FAQ layout ~Finished the about section -------------------- B. Characters -------------------- NOTE: Character ratings are out of 5 stars, with 5 being hardest. The characters of Space Channel 5 are a unique and diverse group, each with their own past that affects their future. Here they are: ULALA (pronounced Ooh-la-la) ----- Of course she is going to be first because she is the main character! Our host was rescued from a severe space accident by a SC5 reporter. Since then she has always wanted to be a reporter, and with Fuse on the end of his rope, Ulala gets the job. FUSE ---- Fuse is the main support character of the game, telling Ulala what to do and when to do it. Without him, Ulala would be nothing. Fuse has had trouble in the past and he is about to be given the pink slip (he is on his last chance). He takes his chances with Ulala. PUDDING ------- No, not a carton of Jell-O pudding, its Pudding of Space Channel 42. In the game Ulala will battle her then rescue her when she is captured by the Morolians. No history available. JAGUAR ------ Jaguar of a pirate space channel is very much against Ulala, trying to beat her to the story. The two battle quite a bit then at the end join forces to beat Mr. Blank. SPACE MICHAEL ------------- See Cameos MOROLIANS ----------- The morolians are the main bad guys in the game, trying to outdance Ulala at every turn. They also have backup, in the form of bosses. Towards the end of the game, Ulala discovers that they are being brainwashed by a signal coming from Space Channel 5. MOROLIAN SYNDICATE ------------------ The morolians that are in a meeting between each level. Little do they know about what Blank is doing to them, so they pursue Ulala to destroy her. Ulala eventually saves them from Blank. A funny little group. COCO TAPIOCA ------------ Coco Tapioca is the first boss that Ulala will meet at the Spaceport. She uses Morolians as a shield until they run out. RATING: **1/2 MOROLINA -------- Morolina is the second boss you will meet. She has captured the school kids and Ulala must save them! RATING: *** MOROLIAN MONROE --------------- The duo that live in the Morolians’ space base. These two will be in a TV then they will come out as Ulala challenges them further. RATING: ***3/4 EVILA ----- Ulala’s evil twin robot has a bad ego. Blank created her to replace the quickly popular Ulala. The two of them will fight, with Evila sound like Rosie off of the Jetsons. RATING:****1/2 GIANT EVILA ----------- Blank’s battleship where you have to dance the moves out backwards! This robot has grabbed Fuse’s ship and his death very possible. RATING: ***** BLANK TV -------- Yes, I know you want to read about Blank himself, so keep your pants on! I am getting there! It turns out that Blank himself is in the actual TV! Ulala is swept into this TV and she is forced to battle Blank, while all the people that she rescued come to her aid, providing music for the now broken sound system. RATING: **** ¾ Mr. or Chief BLANK ------------------ The CEO of Space Channel 5 has brainwashed the Morolians into doing his evil bidding. Can Ulala stop him? ------------------ C. CAMEOS ------------------ Yes, there is one BAD cameo in this game. Space Michael is Michael Jackson in the future! He appears in the last level. ---------------------------- D. WALKTHROUGH ---------------------------- Although I could go through and give you the dance steps, I won’t. They are too lengthy and time consuming to put in ASCII and type anyway. So here is your walkthrough summary. IF YOU WANT THE DANCE STEPS GO TO http://guides.ign.com (requires free membership) LEVEL 1: Spaceport ---OVERALL RATING: ** ---- ---REQUIRED RATING: 15% --- The level begins with "Hey Space Cats!" and ends with "Perfect, Perfect, Perfect!" if you do it right. Ulala is beginning her assignment at SC5 by going to the spaceport to cover the terrorist attck by aliens. You go up to some Morolians right away and take off in the dancing world. Eventually a pink box will tell you to use the B button for when the Morolians say "Chu". Watch for it! After that you will see another box that says to push A when you you hear "Chu" from a human. Watch for this too! After that you go up to the roof to battle Pudding and save the rescue team. If you successfully beat Pudding you get her guitar man! Watch out though, Pudding is not as easy as her name implies.. From Pudding you go to Coco Tapioca, the boss. At first, she just does some standard dance stuff but then she sends out some aliens from her stomach that you also take out. From there her stomach stays open and you shoot into it, finishing her off. She is fairly easy, just practice your timing. Don’t give up! LEVEL 2: Cruise Ship ---OVERALL RATING: *** --- ---REQUIRED RATING: 25%--- This level can be trying for those who haven’t mastered the rhythm of the game yet. Keep with persistence and you will make it! You begin with Ulala’s commentary about more Morolian invasions. From there you go to the cockpit of the ship to rescue some officers. WATCH WHAT SHOOT BUTTON TO USE! From the officers comes the Captain. He has been brainwashed and is being forced to dance by the Aliens. Again, watch what shoot button to use. From there you go to the dining room and rescue passengers. Watch that shoot button! After that you rescue a "Space diva". Fairly easy, you just need that rhythm. After her rescue you get to fight Jaguar from the pirate channel. He is also easy, its just all in the timing. Memorization needed towards the end. If you win him you get his sax man. Out of the lunchroom to the top viewing dome. Here you see the Morolian mothership escape, and are taunted by Jaguar. Have fun with this boss, she requires rhythm and a bit of memorization. Most of you will fail here, if you fail this level. Just remember you need to move with that rhythm, maybe tap a foot or something, and do quick memorization. Do not think about the steps, just put them back in the game. LEVEL 3: Morolians’ Space base. ---OVERALL RATING: **** --- ---REQUIRED RATING: 45% --- This level requires some medium-heavy split second memorization. Just don’t think about what the steps are! You begin in space (notice the change of clothes?) where you can freely zap anything. The people that appear are not friendly, zap them hard! Towards the Jaguar fight, you will be required to do some quick stuff ("Right/Shoot" "Up/Shoot" not "Right Shoot" or "Up Shoot"). After that comes Jaguar. Again no friends here, zap ‘em! After you beat him you enter the base and are forced to rescue Hypnotized Pudding. Did you notice that Ulala managed to change clothes AGAIN? Anyway, after rescuing Pudding you open the door to the main part of the base. Keep the rhythm! Once in the base, you see the TV monitor that contains the boss. Have fun. As a tip this boss tends to do doubles of the same moves ("up right, up right") or opposites ("up right, up left") and for the first half almost all the moves end with "chu chu chu". At one point you will be forced to play the keep switching guns game. This again is where most of you will fail. Persistence is the key. LEVEL 4: Space Channel 5 broadcast satellite. ---OVERALL RATING: ***** --- ---REQUIRED RATING: 75% --- This level can be a doozy! Remember to keep the rhythm and DO NOT think about the steps! Just repeat them! You have about 1 second when fighting Giant Evila to think about the moves. Use that 1 second to reverse the moves. Also tap your feet or something to keep the beat. The music stops and you are forced to keep the rhythm in your head. You begin this level by entering the room where you have been seeing the Morolians’ meetings in the between level movies. Here you fight the very same morolians. You gun has been upgraded to the "Deluxe B button beam and the Deluxe A button beam". The guns will both save or kill automatically (do not alternate guns for pictures of people). Keep the rhythm here. After you beat them Blank will disappear and you will leave the room. Here you rescue Space Michael! This is fairly easy. After that you go upstairs and rescue a piano playing girl. Bon Apetite! After here you see Blank again, but he runs off (or rather up). He leaves his cronies behind to get you. Just keep the rhythm and eat them up! Watch for them to speed up. From here comes boss one: Evila. Your evil twin will try and out-dance you. This is easy if you have your timing down (by now you should) and are moving some part of your body with the rhythm (you also should be doing this by now). From here you go to Giant Evila. This is the absolute hardest part of the game. You take what Giant Evila says (ie "Up/shoot/shoot") and reverse it! (ie "down/shoot/shoot"). There are no real tips for this but to think! This is the one spot where you can think about the moves, BUT YOU MUST DO IT QUICKLY! This also becomes even tougher when you lose the sound system. This is why I have been telling you all along to tap a foot! Without this you are serious mush. If you can successfully take her on (and I know all of you will fail here at least once (hey, I did)) then you get the final showdown with Blank TV. Blank TV is Blank in a TV. Really. Blank in a TV. That’s all. Blank. In a TV. Get over it. He has four TVs around him at first that show different pictures of either him or Ulala. Your Deluxe beams are broken and you must switch off between the correct guns. This can be tough, but persistence will pay off. After enough successful shots, you will fall out of the TV and join all the people that magically came to support you (how nice). From there its just one "Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!" and you have won...the basic levels. You wanted me to say you were done, didn’t you? Be careful, at the end of the credits you have just one more move to pull off for your 100% rating: Up. Almost no one can do this and maintain a 100% rating. Sega can be so mean. ~~~That’s it! You have beaten the basic levels!~~~~~~ THE EXTRA LEVELS The extra levels are the same levels with detours to harder parts of the level. Most of these levels are slightly more challenging that their original counterparts. The fourth level, however, is much more harder. EXTRA LEVEL 1: Spaceport ---RATING: *** --- ---REQUIRED RATING: ?? --- This level begins the game again, only different. You play against the usual morolians on the first floor. When you shoot the morolians in the elevator you actually get in and go upstairs (not magically appear on the roof). Here you need to Evila skills: you fight against some medium-tough morolians several times. After that the room starts to explode and you say "up up up" not "shoot shoot shoot". From there you go to the launch pad and Coco Tapioca. The second alternate route for this level can be found in The Hidden Part of Level 1. EXTRA LEVEL 2: Cruise Ship ---RATING: *** 1/2 --- ---REQUIRED RATING: ?? --- Once again you start as normal, rescuing the captain as usual. Then, instead of going to the cafeteria, you go to the garbage room (ew!). This room can be particularly hard, playing the gun switch game AGAIN! Once again, the foot would help here. From there it’s Morolian Monroe and the school children. EXTRA LEVEL 3: Morlians' space base ---RATING: **** --- ---REQUIRED RATING: 70% --- For some reason Sega just didn't change this level, except for the steps. They didn't even make it harder! I can't really say much can I? See The Hidden part of Level 3? below. EXTRA LEVEL 4: Space Channel 5 Broadcast Satellite ---RATING: ***** --- (if there was 6 or 7 stars I'd use it)--- ---REQUIRED RATING: ?? --- The level begins that same (do any not?) with you in the confrence room and Blank dissapearing. From there its once again Space Michael! Now comes the hard part. You go to a changing studio that ranges from news to games. You rescue the news reporters first then you rescue the camera crew. The studio changes once again and you rescue the performers again! Now comes the hardest part, "The Alien Up-Down Quiz!" This part is indeed the hardest because the morolians are not staying in one spot, they're moving up and down along with their hostages! This gets so confusing you might look at the VMU LCD screen here. Once again the foot helps (how many times can I say that), rhythm is the key to this game and you need to hold the rhythm. An interesting note on this part of the level is the music. The music during when you are walking will sound out-of-tune if you have been playing poorly and it will sound jazzy if you are kicking @$$. This only happens here. After you win the studio 'sub-levels' you see Blank running away from you. From here you go to Evila, Giant Evila and Blank TV. Once again YOU'VE WON!...the extra levels. To the best of my knowledge, this is the end of the game. Watch out for the "up" in the credits. -------------------------------- E. HINTS/SECRETS/ODDITIES/CODES -------------------------------- I accept submissions for this section at tugsparra@yahoo.com HINTS **From KittD ** For Giant Evila: Instead of getting tied up with the opposite button pushing, just turn your controller upside down! It makes that part much easier. Keeping Rhythm: If you want to keep beats, instead of tapping or counting just watch Ulala she moves in the rhythm of the enemies. Cruise Ship (saving the captian): Can't seem to get your fingers moving fast enough? Use both hands to pull off the quick up/downs and the left/ups but be sure to get your hands back to the shooting control. Jaguar: He's pretty easy, he repeats his moves by adding to the previous ones. Evila: Does the same (previous move repeat), don't get too distracted by her jerky robot movements...just listen to her commands. On one note...it helps to jam with Ulala and the crew. Just get up and groove! Come on...its fun! ~You typically can play better if you don’t think of what you are doing ~TAP A FOOT SECRETS ~Extra levels can be accessed by beating the basic levels ~Ulala glows with a pink fire if you can maintain a 95% or higher view rating ~Blank says something different when you defeat him in Extra Mode CODES ** Code posted to GameFAQs by: kof2000 ** Code submitted by: Daniel Marven Even though, I listed it above. Daniel Marven deserves super credit for SUBMITTING the biggest code find yet for Space Channel 5. --- HAVE ULALA TAKE OVER AND EARN 100% (This code has been tested and it works): During the game pause, then hold L+R then press Up, Left, A, Left, A, Down, Right, B, Right, B If entered successfully you will hear Ulala say "Yeah!". Unpause and continue watching the game. Once this code has been activated, you cannot unactivate it. --- On the side, PERFECT SCORES ARE NOT SAVED! (thanx to Thomas Hostetler, DEADSCREAM@Juno.com for telling me this) ODDITIES ~You know how in the middle and last parts of Level 3 it says to "Keep a safe distance from the TV monitor and turn on the room light"? Well that is an epilepsy warning! UGA wanted to make sure they didn't get a lawsuit. ------------------------------- F. MERCHANDISE *UPDATED* ------------------------------- This section will cover all merchandise available that has to do with Space Channel 5. Email submissions/corrections to mewthepokemon@hotmail.com SC5 SOUNDTRACK CD (Japan) This CD contains ALL the music from Space Channel 5. It goes from the standard Mexican Flyer (the game's theme song) to the song that the people sing at the end of the game. Email me with more about this! MEXICAN FLYER CD (Japan/USA) This is a CD that you typically have to special order from your local CD store. The CD contains *really good* remixes of Mexican Flyer (but not MF itself). I have this disc and I highly recommend it. The CD has a cool picture of Ulala on it, tinted pink. Since it is so hard to find readily I will give you the ordering info: Author: Space Channel 5 Album Name: Mexican Flyer Label: Tommy Boy Silver Label Typical Cost: $7-$10 Amazon.com has this CD listed and will special order it. ULALA MAGNET/CD Set (JAP/USA Email me about it) (thanx to Thomas Hostetler - DEADSCREAM@Juno.com for more details) This magnet, from what I know, is a magnet of Ulala where you can change her outfit (geez, you'd think someone would capitalize on her wardrobe). The outfits correspond with what she wears in the game. It also is supposed to glow in the dark. The magnet was attainable for sure in a game magazine. Please email me with more about this! ULALA'S OUTFIT (Japan/USA?) At one point, or in the future sometime, Ulala's outfit will/was offered. I don't know much more about this. ULALA MAGNET & SOUNDTRACK CD (Japan/USA) This is a set that has the SC5 music and a glow-in-the-dark magnet of Ulala. When you buy SC5 at Best Buy, this set comes with it. ULALA CLOCK (Japan Only - SC5p2) United Game Artists has released an Ulala clock to go with Space Channel 5 Part 2. Ulala's legs serve as the device to tell what time it is! Email me with more merchandise! mewthepokemon@hotmail.com ------------------------------------------------------------- G. Space Channel 5 Part 2/Space Channel 5 PS2 *MAJOR UPDATE* ------------------------------------------------------------- United Game Artists, who brought us Space Channel 5 has confirmed that they are developing a sequel to our beloved game. Space Channel 5 Part 2 was demoed at TGS 2001. The storyline is not known, but we know that Ulala will be battling the new species of aliens called the Orodians. She also will retain her classic team of Jaguar, Pudding, the Morolian Drummer Boy (from Level 3, escape) and Space Michael. The UGA website has new information and a trailer of the game which is extremely interesting as it has the remixed Mexican Flyer in it, and a few battles. See the link to the UGA website at the end of this section. Another rumor about this is that it will be Playstation 2 only. The creator of the game himself said that this is not so. The game WILL come out on Dreamcast. Release on DC for Japan: Soon after the PS2 version. Release on DC for North America: not announced/not likely :( This is due to Sega's collapse. Release on PS2 for Japan: February 4, 2002. Release on PS2 for North America: Highly Possible.... /source/:IGN DC (http://dc.ign.com) /source/: Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) /The UGA website/ www.u-ga.com (requires the Japanese set reader for Windows) (for Win98/Me get it at Windows Update) 0000 UGA is working on the PS2 version of Space Channel 5. The only reason I write about the PS2 version is because there is to be a 2-player versus mode in the version. The backgrounds will be DVD based and thus the game will look better. I WILL WRITE A SEPERATE FAQ FOR THE PS2 VERSION. It has also been stated that the PS2 version's colors aren't as vibrant as the DC's. ------------------------------------------ H. THE HIDDEN PART OF LEVEL 3? (*SOLVED*) ------------------------------------------ **Thomas Hostetler - DEADSCREAM@Juno.com solved the mystery of Level 3... Like I said before, a hidden part to Level 3 was unproven theory and fact. The mystery has been solved. The picture mentioned in the original text of this section (below) is actually in the Luggage Room, described in the next section! So the Hidden Part of Level 3 is actually the Hidden Part of Level 1! Original Text: ~BEFORE YOU READ THIS, YOU REALIZE THAT THIS IS NOT FACT AND IS MERELY ~WHAT I THINK FROM OBSERVATIONS! THIS IS NOT PROVEN FACT! ~I believe that there is a hidden part to the 3rd level. I believe its ~accessed where you rescue Hypnotized Pudding, she unhypnotizes herself and says ~"Thanks anyway!" as if you didn't save her. Also where does she decide to ~join the crew? Jaguar has a part where he does, where's Pudding's? Why is Level 3 ~not different in Extra Mode? Why does the back of the game's CD case say "multiple ~hidden levels for added replay value"? There is also a picture on the back ~of the game's CD case that shows Ulala on a platform, dancing in what ~looks like a part of Level 3, but if you pay attention to the game, you never see this place! ~NOTE: This picture is not on the PAL version of the CD case... ~This adds some suspision to the game. Also, the game CD can hold more data than that. ~There simply must be a hidden part of level 3! If you have any details about this, or how to access this, please email me! mewthepokemon@hotmail.com -------------------------------------- I. The HIDDEN PART OF LEVEL 1! -------------------------------------- I HAVE TAKEN THIS FROM THE IGN MESSAGE BOARDS / http://boards.ign.com / I was emailed on this, and thanx to you (you asked to remain anonymous). Anyway, this email said that they saw the "Luggage Room" demo when they let the demo play a couple of times. This was at first suggested as a part of level 3. Not so. I have read on the IGN message boards that there is a way to access the luggage room. 1. Start the game in Extra Mode: Level 1 2. Play the game and retain a viewing rate of 89% 3. Where Ulala is supposed to go upstairs, she will go to the luggage room 4. Be sure to collect the dogs you have to rescure here! -------------------------------- J. WHO IS APOLLO SMILE? -------------------------------- Apollo Smile plays the voice of Ulala in the North American version of SC5. Her full name is Paula Apollo Anne Scharf (aka Apollo Smile). Her birthday falls on February 16, but the year isn't known. She weighs a mere 103 lbs., has blue eyes, blond hair and lives in New York City. Her blood type is B+. //source:// http://www.angelfire.com/pe/apollosmile/bio.html/ Apollo currently loans her voice to the animé market, playing various roles. She was contracted by Sega of America to play Ulala because of her popularity as a voice actress. Speculation calls for her as Ulala again for Space Channel 5 Part 2, if it released in North America. There is a following of Apollo Smile on the Space Channel 5 message board on GameFAQs. If you have more questions, then ask there. The only current expert is Deadscream or Lazy Teens Club. ----------------------------- K. ABOUT ----------------------------- My internet handle is mewthepokemon. This is MY FAQ. Period.
