Super Gem Fighter Mini-Mix Dan FAQ By: Alex "Joker" Hall Started on - 10/22/03 Completed on - 10/22/03 E-Mail at SanctuaryRemix@AOL.com - Round 7, and this one will be for a "secret" character of the game. Dan's not really a secret character if you can easily find him, but oh well. To play as Dan hit left next to Ken on the character select menu. Just act like there's a character tile next to Ken that's visible. Now it's hard to guess why I didn't do a decent Dan Mini-Mix FAQ for the guy by now. I think one person from another Dan FAQ said it best for his strengths "He's Dan! What other reason do you need?" and his weaknesses "He's Dan! What other reason do you need?". Dan's been around for good while now in various Capcom games, and he's still going strong despite his extremely goofy nature and supposed weak ass fighting style. I'll leave the best stuff for the opinions section. Lets get on to Dan's Walkthrough! Yahoo!!!! - Oh yeah.......No copying my work onto your site without asking my permission. It's as simple as e-mailing me, asking me to use it. I'll say yes if you do ask, so lets save some hassle here by doing things right. Table of Contents 1) Dan's Story 2) Controls 3) Moves 4) Overall Stats 5) Ending 6) Credits 1) Dan's Story - Dan's got just alittle better maturity wise since his debut in Street Fighter Alpha, but then again......Dan's always got to have to be the comic relief of every game in some way, but in this game it is hard to do. Dan though pulls it off in grand Dan style, so without further adue.....onto Dan's story. - (Shows Dan with a serious look on his face and his hand to his chin almost like he's thinking really hard....almost being the key word) Upon deciding he was the world's strongest fighter, Dan decided to teach his Saikyo style to the world. I must find someone weaker than myself who is suitable to be my first student! (Dan gets this mischievous grin and his eye twinkles) Yahoo! I know just the right person! And so Dan set off to make Sakura, a high school girl martial artist and talk of the town, his first student. - Dan's bigheaded once again in a game, this time to make Sakura his student. Will it work for Dan in the end? Can he make Sakura forget her techniques that she learned from watching Ryu, her secret crush? What do you think? He's Dan for crying out loud!!!! 2) Controls - The Joystick controls your character (or if you got yourself an emulated version like me then you can use the D-Pad) up - jump down - duck left and right - move forward and backward double tap left and right - dash/run forward or backward P - Punch K - Kick S - Special - Common Motions Used: qcf - d-df-f qcb - d-db-b fdf - f-d-df bdb - b-d-db hcf - b-db-d-df-f hcb - f-df-d-db-b 360 - f-df-d-db-b-ub-u-uf-f 3) Moves - Saikyo style is a way of the future! It's quick, easy to learn, and above all else full of style. It is said that the Saikyo style is weak and stupid, but has that stopped Dan at all? NO!!!! Dan follows in his father's footsteps of becoming a great martial artist with his Saikyo style. Now it's time for you to become a student of the Saikyo style and to learn all it's great techniques. - Throws - - Everyone can do a throw in the air by pressing the p+k buttons in the air. Dan grabs his opponent and does a Rolling Judo Foot Throw. This actually looks like a serious move despite Dan's style of fighting! - p+k (The Overhead Throw.......Dan does Ryu's Overhead Throw to the same letter of him. Maybe Dan's been practicing a few Ryu's moves on the side. This move is great for offense and getting some space between you and your opponent. All in all a very decent throw move.) - hcf p+k (Karaoke Night......Dan's not only a great fighter (sorta) he's also a great singer (sorta)! Dan gets decked out in a Japanese outfit (looks like what Kenny and Vic wear from Most Extreme Elimination Challenge on Spike TV) and gets a mic from nowhere to stun the opponent in their place. This move is extremely funny to watch and extremely useful to do since it does turn your opponent to stone for second. If you are quick enough you can hit the opponent with an attack to shatter them to pieces. Also did I mention that this move is extremely funny? You really do ahve to see this to believe it!) - hcb P+k (Judo Foot Throw......Once again Dan takes another page out of Ryu's book of throws. Dan grabs the opponent by their shirt and then lays back placing his foot on their stomach to launch them skyward. This move can be used to set up the enemy if you're quick enough on the draw to hit them. Else wise just use this move to put some space between you and your opponent and to give you a small breather. It does take them a second or two to hit the ground, and if the action is getting too intense for you, then use this to get that needed breather.) - Combos - - The combos that have descriptions with them are Dan's most devestating combos in my eyes. So I suggest you stick with what I describe, or use the others that I didn't describe if you feel that they would serve you better. In this case though since it's Dan...... I'll list all their uses! That's right! In honor of Dan's Saikyo Style I'll list the uses to all the Combos instead of leaving a few of them blank. - PPPP (The Saikyo Style Combo.......Dan uses basic Saikyo style punches in this combo to hurt the opponent heavily. The 4th hit is the funniest to watch as he does the Oyaji! taunt for his 4th hit, but it does hurt the opponent. His arm gets extremely huge on the hit. Use this combo as much as you want to since it is a very reliable combo to use, or you could just want to use it to watch the final hit of the combo over and over again. I mean it is funny!.................OYAJI!!!!) - PKKK (Elvis Lives!!!!..........After the initial punch of the combo, Dan goes into Elvis attire, complete with the hair! It's time to show the world that Dan's got some style and singing ability. He might stun people with his Karaoke singing, but he'll dazzle them with his Elvis moves. This combo is powerful to say the least, but because it does take a second or two in between moves it is blockable at certain hits, especially the 4th hit. If you want to end fights quickly or just want to make an ass out of yourself, use this combo to your hearts content.) - PPKK (The Wrath of the Tengu.......This combo is pretty decent being the combo that uses the S Attack in it's 4th hit. Basically the only reason I use this combo is for the 3rd hit. I find it extremely hilarious and can't get enough of it. The 3rd hit is an attack that's very quick and hard to block in time, but the reason why it's funny is that Dan uses a megaphone and screams a few words that he uses all the time into it to damage his opponent. Just listen to how off it sounds when he screams into it and you'll know why I think it's so damn funny. I know, I have a warped sense of humor, but I mean c'mon! It's Dan! This combo should be used only at times since it is hard to hit with the S Attack at the end of the combo. Just use it up to the 3rd hit if you want to cause significant damage to the opponent. Just pray for the best on the 4th hit is all I have to say.) - PKPP (True Karaoke Style........Here's your grab combo that you were looking for. The grab on this combo is his Karaoke throw, but with a better twist. If the grab does succeed then he'll turn the person to stone for a little bit longer than the normal Karaoke grab. Like all the other character's grab combos it is hard to hit with the grab. You have to either corner the person or just pray that you do hit the grab. Like I said though, if you do hit the grab then you have just a tad bit more time to do something to the opponent while they're stone, so inflict that extra amount of damage when you get the opportunity! You'll love this combo for it's pure craziness and overall power.) - PKPK (JamMaster Sexy Combo.......basically from here on out these next four combos are just remixes of the previous four. In this combo you go back and forth between Elvis and a Karaoke Dan. This combo is actually an extremely decent combo and it makes the Elvis Mic Stand Smash on the 4th hit a bit faster than in the Elvis Lives!!!! combo. It does lack in power when compared to the other combos, but who cares when you can pound away on an unsuspecting opponent with this combo over and over.) - PPKP (The Saikyo Style Loud Combo.......Dan changes up the 3rd hit of his normal Saikyo Style Combo to add in the scream on the megaphone that I oh so love to do. This combo is actually better to do in terms of power, speed, and reliabilty, not to mention the hilarity behind it from the 3rd hit and the 4th hit. You can use this combo to your hearts content, but do know that a few other combos can get the job done faster if you need to kill off an opponent in a hurry.) - PPPK (The Quick Tengu......Dan goes through the intial first three hits of his Saikyo Style Combo, and then uses the Tengu Smash move from the Tengu combo in the 4th hit. In this combo though the Tengu Smash seems to faster than the Wrath's version. It does lose that power it has in the Wrath Combo, but if you're looking to hit with that Tengu Smash move, then this is where you should look for hitting with it.) - PKKP (JamMaster Sexy Remix Combo........Dan goes for the first two Elvis hits of his Elvis Lives!!!! Combo and then ends it with the True Karaoke Grab. When he turns the opponent to stone, they don't stay stoned as long as the True Karaoke version. In fact it's basically the same amount of time as the normal Karaoke Grab. Still if you want to bust some tunes on your opponent and make their jaw drop, then you can use this combo to do it.) - Special - - Time to learn how that S button works with Dan. Remember now, each attack can be charged for extra amounts of damage, and each attack is designated to knocking out specific gem colors. - S Alone (Overhead Tengu Smash.........Dan grabs a Tengu version of himself (to some it seems that he's grabbing a Tengu version of his father, but I think it's a version of himself) and rares back to smash them with him. Dan goes into the motion of Ken's 100 K Hammer Smash, but this doesn't flatten the opponent like Ken's move. This move is 2nd in distance and 2nd in power. All in all you have a really great move to use here if you're looking to go on an offensive or counter an enemy offensive.) - f+S (The No Defeating Me Sign........That's right baby! Dan's got what's considered to be the greatest S Attack in the game! Taking a big page out of Ryu's book Dan uses the extremely great distance S Attack, but his actually has a bit more power behind it than Ryu's version. That means that this is his S Attack that is 1st in both distance and power. With this move as his best S Attack makes him dangerous for once in a game! I don't suggest using this as a counter at all, only for offense. Dan's bound and determined to make sure that he wins out over all in the Mini-Mix battles, and with this move as a forefront to his arsenal, he just might be able to school the other fighters in zany combat!) - d+S (The Tengu Uppercut......With the other two being first and second in both categories, I'd say it's safe to say that this move is third in both categories. It's not that it's that bad of a move, because it's barely beat out by the Overhead Tengu Smash for second in both. Use this move as a counter and an anti-air. Dan does a very wide uppercut motion that he can pick people out of the air that tries to use an offensive from the air on him. This makes this move extremely useful in the defense department. You can win the entire match just by standing back and countering the opponent with this move over and over.) - Special Moves - - qcf+P (Gadoken.......Dan hasn't really changed much when it came to his Gadoken move......it's still a one handed piece of crap that doesn't travel but just in front of him. This is what made Dan a joke in the Street Fighting Arena, but hey.....least wise it's always funny to watch and if you ever hit your friend with this move you always got to make fun of them. In this game you can level up this move's strength, with it starting off as a small piece of crap that fades the moment he utters the word "GADOKEN!" to a LVL 3 huge almost Ryu fireball that travels a foot in front of him. If you must use this move, use it for defensive or countering purposes only. The only other reason to use it is to watch Dan make an ass out of himself doing the move.) - fdf+P (Goryuken.......Well at least Dan has a somewhat decent move in his arsenal to use for offense. I really wonder where Dan learned these moves from, because if someone that knows Ryu and Ken's fighting style taught this to Dan, did they teach him wrong as a joke? In anycase Dan's got the same rising uppercut type move as Ryu and Ken with the exception that no matter what level you get it up to, it never gains an element like Ryu or Ken. His punch when rising though is bigger than Ryu's or Ken's in this game, so it's eaiser to hit with. This is a great anti- air and counter, so stick to mainly using it for that.) - qcf+K (Flying Gale Kick........Dan has his own orignal move, and I have to say, it is better than Ryu's and Ken's Hurricane Kick. Dan flies forward quickly at the opponent to hit them consecutively for a small combo. Dan covers a great distance with this move in a short amount of time. At the first level, Dan only does two kicks. At the second, he does the real version of it, pulling off three kicks. At the final level LVL 3, his third hit is changed to small Goryuken. The usefulness of this move as an offensive type move is high. If you must use any of his special moves for offense, then this is the one.) - Super Moves - - Dan's Saikyo Style is not without it's secret techniques to devestate the opponent in a flash, and here's how to use them! Master these techs and make Dan proud as one of his many great Saikyo Style students. - qcf+S (Shinkuu Gadoken.......Dan sends more power behind his Gadoken to send the thing just a few feet in front of him. Hey at least now you got some distance to work with! The move does a 5 Hit combo if it hits. It's not the greatest move around in his Super's arsenal, but it is a nice counter move. The power is adequate so it is worth using when you need to.) - fdf+S (Ultra Goryuken.........Dan doesn't do a graceful or huge combo type style like Akuma or Ken, but he does get the job done despite it's lack of flair. Dan does one small Goryuken Goryuken rotation before doing the final Goryuken that damages the opponent and sends Dan sky high. Again, not the most flashy or graceful move, but it does get the job done and the damage high when used to it's fullest.) - hcf+S (Tengu Beam........Here ya go!!!! Dan uses his Tengu self to launch a beam that goes all the way across the screen like Ryu's Super from Marvel Vs Capcom. Dan starts off by hitting the Tengu with a Gadoken which triggers the Tengu to use his nose to blast the beam with. This is the definitive move to use in terms of distance in Supers. It's power is a bit lacking despite it's greatness, but with a few hits of this Super in a row and it'll be over with anyways.) - hcb+S (Tengu Raging Demon.......Dan steals Akuma's ultimate Super! Dan has basically taken a ton of great moves in this game to make himself quite possibly the most dangerous character to fight in the game. With this move as his most dangerous Super out of all of them. First off to pull it off you need to have 3 full bars of Super energy filled. Just look under your health bar for the Energy bar and number of how many you have filled. Get in some what close to the opponent and let this move go. It's unblockable!!!!! It's also the Super to use to get the person to give out those much needed gems due to it's high comboing. Dan uses the Tengu self of him to pull off the move. Should the opponent jump to avoid it, Dan's got some distance of safety. When it hits and is over you'll see the Tengu standing in the middle of the screen like Akuma but with a different symbol on his back. Finish the opponent off with this move and you get the special background that you get in Ibuki's Samurai Super, but with that symbol on the Tengu's back bigger. The definitive Super to use!) - hcfx2+Start (Taunt) (Super Saikyo Style Dan Taunt......just do it and watch......that's all I can say. It takes one bar away and doesn't do any damage. Just....watch and be amazed. This is truely something you have to see.) 4) Overall Stats - Time to tell you nice people my opinions on Dan and what he says for victories...... - The victory phrases..... - Study Saikyo style and I'll teach you how to play puzzles! - You'll never beat me because I'm a master in my own mind! - My dad was a martial arts expert and now so am I! - Yahoo! My Saikyo style rocks! - He's Dan! What more do you need to know? With all the stuff he has in this game, it's a wonder why he's not as good in other games. He is getting better as games move on though, so that's a big improvement, but when it comes to serious fighting he'll no way reach the greatness he has in this game anytime soon. Dan did go on to become the first official champion alongside Joe in the first Capcom Vs SNK game. The more games he gets in, the better he seems to become. Course Dan is the comic relief of the Street Fighters so you have to have him in fighting games now. He's also gaining a huge fan base that slowly grows each and everyday. Dan could very well be on his way to true gaming legendry. With his crazy style of fighting and off the wall attitude, how can you not like Dan? - Time for the prefight showdown with Sakura. Is Dan capable of beating her? - (Dan) Oh happy day! I've chosen you to be my first student of my Saikyo style! - (Sakura) So you're saying you don't have any students yet, right? - (Dan) Minor details like that don't phase me! Soon there will be Saikyo style students everywhere! - (Sakura) Well... I'll consider it if you defeat me! - Time for Dan to get his Saikyo style dojo off the ground. He must win over Sakura to get her as a student. What a student she'd make too! Can Dan win and get the recognition he deserves? - Costumes - - Now yes you do hve different costumes to use, but they're really just different colors like in the other Capcom games. Ah well, least wise they add some diversity to each character right? Here's Dan's different colors. - Punch Button = Normal Colors - Kick Button = Karate suit is baby blue, with golden yellow gloves. - S Button = Karate suit is light green, with fuschia gloves. 5) Ending - Now again......if you want to earn the ending for Dan yourself then don't look at this chapter. Now for those that do, here it is. - (Shows Dan doing his Oyaji! taunt and Sakura looking at him in wonder) Wow! I can't believe you won! Not bad for someone with stubby arms and legs! I'm impressed! Now you see the true power of Saikyo style! Are you ready to begin your training? Yes Master! (Screen goes black and then shows Dan and Sakura both doing Gadokens) Thus Dan's Saikyo style dojo was established. Draw more power from your hips! Got that? Let's do it! Gadoken! Once more! And don't forget to smile this time! Yes master! (screen goes black and then shows Dan holding a letter smiling) Three days later... Dan recieves a letter This must be from a student applicant. Let's see... (Sakura appears in the background) "I've already mastered everything you have to teach me. But I decided to disregard all I learned from you." "All your moves look retarded in addition to being completely useless in a fight." "See ya loser! Sakura" (Dan starts to cry) - So once again Dan doesn't get the credit he deserves. What does it take for him to get the respect and pride he wants? No respect I tell ya....... 6) Credits - Now thanks goto Capcom for making this addictive little game. It's crazy as hell to play and really anybody should be able to get into the game no matter who it is. - Creds go out to all my friends that support my walkthrough making ways. Hey....they're good for something.... - Lastly I thank all those who read this and my other FAQs I've made. I'm glad I've been of help to all of you, and I'll keep on making more walkthroughs. - If I've screwed this thing up in any way, shape, form, or fashion, then e-mail me at SanctuaryRemix@AOL.com to correct my foolish mistakes. I'll correct them and give you the proper credit you deserve for catching something that I didn't see. Sees Yas Later Alex "Joker" Hall
