Introduction [1000] +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ *=============================================================================* Originally released for the Sega Master System, Phantasy Star is the first title in a series of RPGs and is one of the earliest RPGs to ever hit the whole gaming scene. Due to its relative obscurity during its time, Phantasy Star, today, is not amongst the more popular lines of RPGs such as Final Fantasy or Fire Emblem. However, its success was enough to spawn a huge line of sequels, including a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) known as Phantasy Star Online. I hope you find this guide, which includes a walkthrough and various appendices, helpful! *=============================================================================* +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ 2. FAQ [2000] +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ *=============================================================================* +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] Where is the Soothing Flute located? [A] The Soothing Flute is located in Gothic. First, you must travel to Uzo (can only be reached using the Luveno) and speak with the man in the house at the upper-left corner. He will direct to Gothic, where he hid the Soothing Flute. Check the tree at the end of the path at the southwest corner of Gothic to find it. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] Where can the Amber Eye be acquired? [A] Defeat the Blue Dragon in the Casba Cave. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] What's the point of talking to a monster? [A] Certain enemies you encounter can be talked to and coerced into not fighting. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] Where can I get the Roadpass to Palma Starport? [A] The Roadpass can be bought in Scion. The Second-Hand Shop will have an item listed as Secrets. Repeatedly ask the store clerk to purchase it and he will sell it to you the third time (after refusing you the first two times). +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] Where can I get Myau? [A] Trade a Laconian Pot to a man in Paseo. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] How do I cross the poisonous green gas northwest of Uzo? [A] You need to purchase the Gas Shield from the shop in the maze-like building in Drasgow. The shield costs 1000 MST. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] Where is the Mirror Shield? [A] Before you can obtain it, you must first get to Sopia. To do so, you'll need a Gas Shield to penetrate the gas surrounding Sopia. Once there, speak with the head of the town and donate 400 MST. Then, travel to the lone island in the middle of the nearby lake and search the patch of empty ground below the Antlion hill. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] Where is the Frade Mantle? [A] Journey to Tarzimal's Cave, which is southwest of Sopia and fight Tarzimal with Noah only. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] I'm stuck in the Dezoris West Cave. What do I do? [A] It looks like you've fallen into the notorious "endless" trap. If you fell through a trapdoor in that cave, then you're pretty much stuck there. Use an Exit spell to get yourself out. If you're out of MP, then you're screwed. If you saved while in this trap, then you're royally screwed. Protip: Don't fall down holes... And don't listen to those filthy Dezorian liars. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] How do I stop Medusa from turning my entire party to stone? [A] Odin must be equipped with the Mirror Shield to counter her gaze. It is possible to defeat Medusa before she can turn your entire party to stone, though the Mirror Shield makes life a lot easier. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] Why can't I leave the Celestial Castle? [A] If Myau died during the battle against Lassic, he won't be able to fly the party back to the ground. The only solution here would be to use a Transer OR use Alis' Fly spell. If Alis doesn't have enough MP and if you don't have a Transfer on hand, you are stuck. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ [Q] A spear just popped out of a treasure chest. What happened? [A] Some treasure chests are booby-trapped. You will still attain the reward inside, but you will take damage from the trap. Spears deal damage to the leader of the party. Bombs damage the entire party. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *=============================================================================* +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ 3. Battle System [3000] +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ *=============================================================================* The battle system in Phantasy Star is fairly self-explanatory. Random encounters occur on the world map and in most dungeons (in addition to boss fights which occur... when you encounter a boss). Whenever you engage in a battle, you'll be given the opportunity to distribute orders amongst your units. Unfortunately, you cannot tell your units which enemy to attack, so the only thing you have to do is select whether you want a particular unit to fight, use magic, use an item, talk, or flee like a little girl. Below is a rough ASCII depiction of a typical battle. ,--------------.-----------. .--------. |[9]DK. VRTX |[10]HP 999 | |[1]ATTK | `--------------'-----------' |[2]MAGC | |[3]ITEM | O |[4]TALK | -|- |[5]RUN | / \ `--------' [8] |[6]ALIS | `--------' ,---------------.---------------.---------------.---------------. | [7]ALIS | ???? | ???? | ???? | | HP 200 | HP 200 | HP 200 | HP 200 | | MP 30 | MP 30 | HP 200 | HP 200 | `---------------'---------------'---------------'---------------' [1] Attack - Select this command to order the selected unit to execute a standard attack. [2] Magic - Select this command to order the selected unit to cast a magic spell. All available magic spells will be shown on a sub-menu when this option is selected. [3] Item - Select this command to order the selected unit to use an item. [4] Talk - Select this unit to attempt to talk to (and pacify) the enemy. Certain enemies in the game can understand English and will leave your party alone once they see your good intentions. Even so, it's usually easier to just kill them first, talk later. [5] Run - Flee! Note that enemies can block your retreat. [6] Character Selected - The name here indicates which character you're currently distributing orders to. [7] Party - Each of the four boxes shows HP/MP remaining for your party members. [8] Enemy - The enemy is shown here. Keep in mind that multiple enemies can be encountered in battles. [9] Enemy Name - The enemy name is shown here. [10]Enemy HP - The remaining enemy HP is shown here. *=============================================================================* +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ 4. Characters [4000] +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ *=============================================================================* Phantasy Star has a grand total of FOUR playable characters. Their general overviews and evaluations are listed below. [-----------------------------------------------------------------------------] Alis ~ =--= Magic Spells: - Heal (Level 4) - Bye (Level 5) - Chat (Level 6) - Fire (Level 12) - Rope (Level 14) - Fly (Level 16) Alis' brother, Nero, was killed at the hands of Lassic for attempting to overthrow his tyrannical reign. She takes it upon herself to seek out and destroy the evil King Lassic to avenge her brother and return freedom to space. In battle, Alis is a very well-rounded unit. She has a modest amount of offensive magic spells, along with a few utility spells. Fire is fairly powerful against random encounters and bosses alike. Fly and Bye are both very useful spells as well. However, note that her MP growth is the worst among the three spellcasters (that's not including Odin, mind), so using magic with Alis will require some conservation of MP. That's not really much of a problem, though, because Alis is a strong attacker. She is capable of wielding some of the strongest weapons in the game (including the Laconian Sword). Her defensive stats, too, are quite high. Alis can even wield heavy armor and shields that further increase her defensive stats. Myau ~ =--= Magic Spells: - Cure (Level 6) - Terr (Level 9) - Wall (Level 12) - Trap (Level 15) - Exit (Level 17) - Help (Level 20) You will encounter this magical, talking at early in the game. Myau can be traded from a man in Paseo, who takes your Laconian Pot in exchange. Myau enters your party with a bottle of Alsulin around his neck. This special substance can turn a stone man back to normal. Myau's magic spells are more supportive than offensive. Cure is a very powerful healing spell that restores around 80 HP to an ally. Among his spells, Wall and Help are the most useful. Help is extremely useful when casted on Odin (it boosts his attack tremendously). Trap is a spell that disarms trap pits in the floor, a necessary spell at some segments in the game. Although Myau can not equip conventional weapons and armor, his attack and defensive stats are high enough to compensate for the lack of versatility. Equipped with the best weapons and armor available to him (Silver Fang, Thick Fur, Gloves), Myau can hold his own in battle. Odin ~ =--= While Alis' brother, Nero, was dying, he told Alis to seek out a warrior by the name of Odin. Eventually, Odin will be found as a stone man. Using the Alsulin, Odin will revert to normal. Free from his petrification, Odin gladly joins the team. Odin has no magic spells at his disposal, but his attack stat makes up for it. Odin can wield the strongest weapon in the game (the Laconian Axe) along with some of the strongest armor in the game as well (Laconian Armor, Laconian Shield). For some reason though, Odin has the weakest defensive stats out of all the characters. I guess the armor he can equip makes for the lack in defense, though you will find that Odin often takes more damage than the rest of the party. Until you acquire the stronger armor, you'll have to make a conscious effort to keep Odin alive. Noah ~ =--= Magic Spells: - Cure (Start) - Fire (Start) - Exit (Level 6) - Tele (Level 8) - Wind (Level 12) - Prot (Level 14) - Open (Level 17) - Thun (Level 18) - Rise (Level 20) Noah, the final unit to join your party, can be found in the isolated Maharu Cave. When your party stumbles upon him, he will quickly join your effort to stop the evil King Lassic. Noah brings with him a wealth of magic spells. Although he does have a few supportive spells (Prot, Cure), his offensive spells make him a force to be reckoned with. Once he learns Wind and Thun, Noah will be dealing the most damage in battles where he uses his magic spells. Noah is especially effective in boss battles because his spells can deplete HP very rapidly. Unfortunately, Noah's attack stat leaves a bit to be desired. Although he isn't weak beyond belief, Noah can not be expected to deal much damage with just physical attacks. Part of the reason is the fact that he can't equip heavy weapons such as shields or axes - instead, he has to rely on using wands and the like. The same applies for defense. Noah can't wear heavy armor either, so his defense stat is comparatively low. *=============================================================================* +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ 5. Walkthrough [5000] +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ *=============================================================================* Following below will be the walkthrough, which will lead you through the entire game from start to finish. Keep in mind that I generally don't make any effort to keep the guide spoiler-free (really, that is TOO much effort to do), so read beyond at your own risk. I strongly recommend using StarFighter76's excellent maps as a resource should you ever get stuck at certain points in the game. ASCII maps will be provided in the walkthrough, but a real image file might be easier to understand (not to mention easier on the eye). ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ ~ 5.1. Nero's Request [5100] ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ The setting: Space Century 342, Camineet on Palma. The game begins with the scene of a dying young man named Nero. With his few final breaths, he tells his sister, Alis, to go seek a man by the name of Odin, who may become instrumental in stopping the evil King Lassic. ============ - CAMINEET - ============ Taking the role of Alis, go into the grey building to the right. Floor 1 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Key ~ |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [#M] - Mesetas |_| |_| [|] - Door |_| |_| |_| |_| _ _ _ _|_| | | [50M]_[|]_|_|_| [Entrance] The viewpoint will change a first-person viewpoint. Move forward and turn left at the corner. Then, pull another left at the split and walk to the end, where you'll find a chest behind a door containing 50 Mesetas (the currency in Phantasy Star). After stealing that, turn around and make your way out of the building. The orange building nearest you when you emerge is Alis' house. There is nothing of interest there, so ignore it and explore the rest of the neighborhood. Check the blue house at the upper-left corner of the area to meet Nekise. He will inform you that a fighter named Odin may be living in a town called Scion. More importantly though, he'll give you a Laconian Pot. Afterwards, go pay the shops a visit. Camineet Armory ~ =============== * Leather Shield - DEF +3 Cost: 30 MST * Iron Shield - DEF +15 Cost: 520 MST * Ceramic Shield - DEF +23 Cost: 1400 MST Camineet First Food Shop ~ ======================== * Cola - Restores 10 HP Cost: 10 MST * Burger - Restores 40 HP Cost: 40 MST Camineet Second-Hand Shop ~ ========================= * Flash - Illuminates dungeon Cost: 20 MST * Escaper - Escape from battle Cost: 10 MST * Transer - Teleport to last visited church Cost: 48 MST You really can't afford to purchase too much at this point. Buy a Leather Shield and equip it. Once you're done in this area, exit through either of the two exit points. To the southwest is the residential town of Parolit. Just north of Parolit is the spaceport, which you can't access at the moment. For now though, you'll want to focus on fighting a few weak monsters to raise some money and gain experience. Notice the woodsy patches of ground; these represent the grounds where you can encounter monsters. There's a patch of woods inside the walled region to train in, but there's a lot more ground outside the walls. As long as you don't wander too far, you won't really encounter anything that'll be too tough for you. Steer clear of the area around Medusa's Cave to the south for now. Early on, focus on the Sworms and the occasional Scorpion and Wing Eye. Run from any encounters with Owl Bears or other monsters. Keep in mind that when you need to restore your HP, return to Camineet and go to Suelo's residence, the orange hut just below Alis' house. She will fully replenish your HP at no charge. Keep fighting the monsters until you've raised 75 MST. That sum will be enough to purchase a new sword in Parolit. =========== - PAROLIT - =========== You'll notice that Parolit is very similar to Camineet. There's a hospital here where you can pay a fee of 9 MST to replenish your HP. However, you're obviously better off just getting free service from Suelo back in Camineet. Parolit Armory ~ ============== * Iron Sword - ATK +12 Cost: 75 MST * Titanium Sword - ATK +21 Cost: 320 MST * Ceramic Sword - ATK +31 Cost: 1120 MST Parolit First Food Shop ~ ======================= * Cola - Restores 10 HP Cost: 10 MST * Burger - Restores 40 HP Cost: 40 MST Parolit Second-Hand Shop ~ ======================== * Flash - Illuminates dungeon Cost: 20 MST * Escaper - Escape from battle Cost: 10 MST * Mag. Lamp - Illuminates dungeon; can be used forever Cost: 1400 MST Purchase an Iron Sword from the Armory and sell your Sword Sword to the Second-Hand Shop. To insure that you're fully prepared for the next dungeon, you'll want to continue fighting the monsters around Camineet and Parolit, attaining more money while leveling up Alis at the same time. With your Iron Sword, the Owl Bears and some of the other stronger monsters in the area should be much easier to kill, which as a result will make collecting money that much quicker. Once you reach 320 MST, return to Parolit and purchase a Titanium Sword. Then, sell off your old Iron Sword. By now, you should be able to kill the once dangerous Owl Bears in a single hit (two at the most). Ideally, you will want to raise at least 600 more MST before proceeding. Explore the open plains and forests in search of Scorpions, Owl Bears, and Wing Eyes, all of which are great for money. When you've raised the designated amount, head east of Camineet toward the beach. Stay off the sand lest you run into a Fishman or something. Head north along the shore until you notice a town along the beach. This is the port town of Scion. ========= - SCION - ========= The first thing you should is pay the shops a visit. There's no First Food Shop in Scion to purchase healing items but there is an Armory and Second-Hand Shop for you to visit. Scion Armory ~ ============ * Leather Armor - DEF +5 Cost: 28 MST * Light Suit - DEF +15 Cost: 290 MST * Zirconian Armor - DEF +30 Cost: 1000 MST Scion Second-Hand Shop ~ ====================== * Flash - Illuminates dungeon Cost: 20 MST * Transer - Teleport to last visited church Cost: 48 MST * Secrets - Roadpass to Palma Starport Cost: 200 MST Purchase a Light Suit from the Armory and equip it on Alis. Then, sell off the old Leather Armor to the Second-Hand Shop. Now, notice the "Secrets" in the Second-Hand Shop. If you attempt to purchase it, the owner will refuse to sell it to you. Ask him again and he will refuse you again. Ask him one last time and he'll finally give up and sell it to you. The Secrets are actually the Roadpass to Palma Starport. With the Roadpass in your inventory, return to Camleet and talk to the guards standing at the west side of town. Noticing your Roadpass, they will let you proceed down the moving platform to Palma Starport. ================== - PALMA STARPORT - ================== From Palma Starport, you can fly to Paseo on the planet Motavia. However, you won't be able to go anywhere without a Passport. Go inside the shop on the right to purchase a Passport for 100 MST after answering two questions. Say "No" to both and the Passport will be yours. Wow, if only filing for a real passport these days was this easy. Palma Starport First Food Shop ~ ============================== * Cola - Restores 10 HP Cost: 10 MST * Burger - Restores 40 HP Cost: 40 MST With your Passport, speak with the two guards blocking the path further to the west. Show them your Passport and they'll let you proceed. Simply step on to any one of the starships and confirm that you're heading for Motavia. Once you have arrived, speak with the two guards blocking the exit path to find yourself in Paseo. ========= - PASEO - ========= Paseo is a fairly large city and the only real strip of green on an otherwise barren desert planet. When you first arrive, step into the shop on the right. The man inside will attempt to swindle you out of (get this...) 1000000000 MST, offering to sell you an extremely rare animal. Refuse his ridiculous offer, and he'll notice your Laconian Pot. Say "Yes" when he asks to trade for that instead. The rare animal turns out to be Myau, a talking cat. He will reveal that he knows who Odin is, but he has been turned to stone. The bottle around his neck contains a medicine that can revive Odin, but he cannot open it. Paseo Armory ~ ============ * Short Sword - ATK +4 Cost: 40 MST * Thick Fur - DEF +30 Cost: 630 MST * Diamond Armor - DEF +60 Cost: 15000 MST Paseo Second-Hand Shop ~ ====================== * Flash - Illuminates dungeon Cost: 20 MST * Escaper - Escape from battle Cost: 10 MST * Passport - Necessary for interplanetary travel Cost: 100 MST The other shops don't have anything of importance. If you feel like raising the money for it, you can purchase a Thick Fur to equip on Myau. Anyway, return to the Palma Starport by return to the starship you came on. Once you're back on the planet of Palma, purchase some Flashes and a few Colas in preparation for the first dungeon of the game. When you are prepared, leave the walled section and walk around to the south, where Medusa's Cave is located. ================= - MEDUSA'S CAVE - ================= Floor 1 _ _ _ |_|_[C] |_| |_| |_| |_| [10M] Key ~ |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _|_| [#M] - Mesetas |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [C] - Compass |_| |_|_ _ _ |_| |_| [O] - Odin |_|_ _|_|_|_|_|_ _|_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_ _|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_ _|_|_|_|_|_ _|_| |_| |_|_[O] |_|_|_| | | ^ [Entrance] | [20M] As soon as you enter the cave, use a Flash to illuminate the path. Walk forward until you reach a split in the path. Go straight to discover a chest containing 10 MST. Then, turn around and go right. At the next split, turn to the left and go straight until you hit a wall. Then, turn to the right and steal 20 MST from the chest. Turn around again and backtrack until you hit a fork in the path. Turn to the left to reach yet another split. Opt for the left path and turn left at the two splits that follow. At the end of the path, you'll find the stone Odin. Bring up your inventory and use your Alsulin to restore Odin to his original form. He will thank you for your help and agrees to join your effort to stop King Lassic. Odin mentioned something about a Compass he left in the cave. To find it, turn yourself around and go straight at each of the forks you come across. After a long walk, you'll finally discover a treasure chest. Open it to find a Compass. This incredibly useful item will tell you what direction you are facing whenever you're in a dungeon. That's pretty much it for this dungeon. Make your way back through the cave and leave. ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ ~ 5.2. A Quest for Shortcakes [5200] ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ From Medusa's Cave, travel in a generally southeast direction until you find a small town located in the middle of a forest. Welcome to Eppi. ======== - EPPI - ======== As soon as you enter, you will notice the Armory and hospital on the left and right, respectively. Unless you really need the healing, don't bother paying the fee at the hospital because you're much better off just getting free treatment from Suelo, back in Camineet. Eppi Armory ~ =========== * Iron Axe - ATK +10 Cost: 64 MST * Needle Gun - ATK +18 Cost: 400 MST * Bronze Shield - DEF +8 Cost: 310 MST Odin is already equipped with an Iron Axe, though you can purchase a Bronze Shield and Needle Gun for him. The Needle Gun is highly recommended because it hits every single enemy on the screen, dealing exactly 5 HP damage each time. As always, if you need more money, fight the monsters outside. One thing you should be aware of is the Werebats. These monsters are quite tough, so I'd suggest you run from any encounter with them. In Eppi, there's a house with a gold roof. Inside, you'll find an old man who asks if you're searching for a Dungeon Key. Confirm and he will tell you that he hid one in the warehouse in Camineet. With that information, return to Camineet and find the grey building at the northeast corner of town. If you recall, you originally found 50 MST inside. Floor 1 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Key ~ [D]_|_|_|_|_|_| [#M] - Mesetas |_| |_| [D] - Dungeon Key |_| |_| [|] - Door |_| |_| _ _ _ _|_| | | [50M]_[|]_|_|_| [Entrance] From the entrance, go straight and turn left at the corner. Then, go straight at the split and you'll find the chest containing the elusive Dungeon Key. Exit the warehouse once you pick it up. Before leaving, purchase a good amount of Burgers (5+ should suffice) and a few Flashes. Back outside, fight monsters until you make close to 1000 MST. I know, that's a huge amount of money, but you'll need it for later. The Were-Bats around Eppi are your best bet for money, but make sure you fight them cautiously because they're fairly tough to take down. Just north of Scion is a grey and red wall. Follow the edge of this wall west and north along the rock barrier, and you will eventually reach a cave. ============== - NAULA CAVE - ============== Floor 1 Floor 2 _ _ _ _ Key ~ |_|_| |_|_| _ [#] - Stairs _ _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_| |_| [#M] - Mesetas |_|_|_[|]_|_| |_| [1] |_| |_| [|] - Door | | |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [S] - Short Sword [1] |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [F] - Flash | | |_| _ _|_| [SS] - Shortcake [Entrance] [S] [2]_|_| Shop Floor 3 Floor 4 _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_[3] |_|_[F] [3]_|_| _ _ _|_|_ _ _ |_| _ _ _ _ |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | |_|_|_| |_| |_| | | |_| [SS] |_|_|_| |_|_ _ _ [10M] |_| _ _|_| |_| |_|_|_|_[2] |_| |_|_|_| |_| |_|_ _ _ _ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| Monsters in here are similar to those you encountered outside. You have plenty of Burgers to use should any of your units need HP. Don't neglect to use Alis' Heal spell either. When you enter the cave, use a Flash to light up the path (otherwise you'll be bumping into things left and right). Unlock the locked door using your Dungeon Key and advance to a split. Turn left and descend the staircase to the next level. On the next floor, walk forward and turn right. Then, at the split, turn left and pick up the Short Sword from the chest. Backtrack to the split and turn right. Go straight past the two forks that follow and turn right at the end of the path. Descend the staircase to the next level. Follow the linear path and turn right and right again at the two corners. A bit beyond that, you'll reach a four-way intersection. If you go straight, you will come across a chest containing 10 MST. It's not really a huge sum, but hey, money is money. Turn around and return to the split. Opt for the right path to reach the staircase to the next and final floor. Here, just follow the path. At the first split, go straight and continue until you find a treasure chest containing a Flash. Then, backtrack to the split you previously ignored and turn left. At the next fork, turn right and follow the path until you reach a door. Open it to find... the Shortcake Dealer! He will apologize for opening a shop in such a horrible place. Anyway, purchase a Shortcake for 1000 MST (although he says it, he doesn't actually take 1000 MST just about 200 MST or so). With the prize on tow, backtrack through the cave and exit. By now, you should have an excess of money from all of the monsters you've killed in the Naula Cave. Return to Camineet and purchase a Ceramic Sword for Alis. If you feel like making some more money, buy a Ceramic Sword for Odin as well. If not, then just give Alis' Titanium Sword to him. Afterwards, raise up 3400 MST to purchase Zirconian Armor from Scion for both Odin and Alis and a Mag. Lamp from Parolit. The best source of money at this point would be the Werebats, which give 63 MST each. When you encounter groups of four, that equates to 252 MST! Not a bad sum, huh? When you're ready to continue, go to the Palma Starport again and fly to Motavia. Enter Paseo and step into the grey building protected by two dozing guards. Floor 1 [GO] Key ~ |_| [-] - Door |_|_ _ _ [G] - Guard |_|_|_|_| [GO] - Governor |_| |_| [G] |_| [-] [Entrance] Unlock the yellow door using your handy Dungeon Key and walk up to the guard. He will ask for a gift. Give him the Shortcake you bought previously and he'll get out of the way. Walk to the end of the path and you'll be back outside on the governor's private grounds. You can rest at the blue building nearby for free if you'd like. Then, step into the governor's mansion. Apparently, word has it that you're trying to kill Lassic. Well, way to be blunt Mr. Governor. He decides to help you out, realizing the danger Lassic poses, and points you in the direction of Maharu Cave, where an Espar named Noah lives. With that, he'll offer you a chance to rest for the night before the journey... Boss Fight: Saccubus ~ =------------------= Saccubus (meant to be a Succubus apparently) is meant to kill you. Let him do just that to get the game going. It is possible to beat him, but your reward will only be a measly 10 EXP. After the battle, you'll realize that it was only a bad dream. The governor of Motavia will give you a few final words of encouragement before setting you off. In Paseo, purchase Myau a Thick Fur. Then, leave the city and go to the left and around the Ant Lion nests. If you happen to stumble into one, you'll enter battle with one of them. Follow the path in between the Ant Lion nests and the hills of sand. Then, continue down the linear path through the dunes until you reach a stone cave at the end. This is Maharu Cave. =============== - MAHARU CAVE - =============== Floor 1 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Key ~ [C]_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [EN] - Entrance _ _ _ _|_|_ _ _ _ |_| |_| [#] - Stairs |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| [#M] - Mesetas |_| _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_| |_| [@] - Pit |_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| [X] - Pit Landing |_| |_| | | |_|_|_| | | |_| [~] - False Wall |_|_|_| [EN]|_|_|_| [1] |_| [-] - Door |_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| [C] - Cola |_| |_|_ _ _|_| |_| [@] |_| [F] - Flash |_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| [B] - Burger |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _|_| |_| |_| [N] - Noah |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| [R] - Red Dragon _ _ _ _|_|_ _ _ _ _|_|_|_| [20M]_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| Floor 2 Floor 3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| _ _|_|_ |_|_ _ |_| |_|_|_|_| [F]_|_|_| |_| [2000M] _ _ _ _ _ [F] |_| _ _ _ _ _ _ | | |_| | |_|_|_|_|_| [R] |_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|[50M]|_| V _ _ _ |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_| |_|_ |_| |_| |_|_|_|_| | | |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_[N] |_| [1] |_| |_| [-] |_| |_| |_| _ _ |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_| |_| |_| |_|_|_| |_|_ _ _ _|_| [X]_|_| |_|_|_| |_|_ _ _|_| |_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_| |_|_ _ |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_ _ |_|_ _ _ |_| |_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_| |_|_| [2]_|_[~]_| |_[2] |_| | | |_| |_|_|_|_ _ _ _ _|_| |_| [-] |_[B] [B]_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_| Your Mag. Turn right twice and proceed to yet another split. This time, go left twice to come across a chest containing a Cola. Once you have that, turn around and walk straight, ignoring any path to the side. Eventually, you'll reach a chest containing 20 MST. Pick it up and backtrack. Ignore the first split that crosses your path and turn left at the second. Walk forward and you'll fall through a hidden pit in the floor and land on the level below. When you land, you'll notice the staircase leading back up to the previous level in front of you. There's no need to head back, so turn around and continue to a split in the path. Noah can be found on this floor, but before we search for her, turn to the right and take two steps. Then, turn to the right and step forward to magically go through the wall. At the end of the path is the hidden staircase to the third level. Follow the path until you hit a fork. Go straight and open the chest at the end for a whopping 2000 MST! Well, looks like you won't be short on money for a while. Anyway, the only other thing on this floor is a Red Dragon hiding at the east end. Fight it if you have a death wish. If you want, you can come back later in the game when your party is a little stronger. Return to the previous floor and go through the false wall. Then, turn left and continue. Ignore the first split and and turn left at the second split you encounter. Go left for 50 MST and go right for a Flash. After picking those up, return to the main path along the edge of this floor and continue westbound. At the next split, go left, right, right, and right yet again. Crack open the chest here for another Flash. Then, turn around and go straight past the two forks you pass for a Burger in a chest. Backtrack and turn right at the first fork you pass by. Then, turn right twice to find another chest with a Burger. Then, turn around completely and walk straight. At the fork, turn left and go straight until you hit a split with a path to the left and a path to the right. Opt for the right path and continue until you reach a door. Inside, you'll find Noah at last. Upon showing him your letter, he will join your effort against Lassic. Equip him with the Short Sword you picked up a while ago. Unless you have a knack for wasting time, don't bother with them. At the entrance, unlock the door with the Dungeon Key. Then, go straight past the first fork and through the next door that follows. From here, proceed until you hit another fork. If you turn left, you'll find a creepy man who warns you that no man who has rounded the next corner has ever come back alive. Well, heed his warning by not going past the corner but be sure to pick up the Cola at the corner. Turn around and go past the last door you went through. Go right, left, right, and left again. At the end of this path will be a chest containing 20 MST. Turn back around and go right, right, straight, right, and right. Assuming you followed the right path, you'll arrive at a staircase leading to the next floor. Walk to the fork and turn right. You will have to use your Dungeon Key to unlock the locked door that blocks your path. Just beyond it is a chest containing 20 MST. Backtrack to the last split and go straight. At the fork that follows, you can choose to go straight, through the door that follows, and take the second left for a Flash inside a chest. The Mag. Lamp is sufficient for dungeon travel though, so you probably won't find a use for it. To proceed, just turn left at the aforementioned split. At the next fork, which should appear quickly, turn right and follow the path to another door. Break it open and continue. At the next two splits, go straight. Turn left when you hit the wall and grab the Cola from the chest. After snagging that, turn around and go straight until you reach the staircase to the next floor. Okay, it's the third floor now! Turn right at the first fork and go straight at the split that follows. Go through the door and continue until you arrive at another fork. Go right, left, and right again to reach a door. Open it (using the Dungeon Key) and take the 20 MST from the chest. Then, turn around and go right. At the next split, head straight to find a chest containing the healthy sum of 50 MST. Now it's time to backtrack. Turn around and go straight, straight, right, and straight again. Open the door you come to and continue. At the fork, you will have a path leading to the left and a path leading to the right. Going right will lead to a chest with 20 MST. Left leads to the staircase to the next floor. Follow the linear path until a fork crosses your path. Head left to find a Burger inside a chest. Turn around and go straight past the split to a door. From here, if you go straight past the two splits, you will eventually hit the boss of the dungeon. However, if you feel like sticking around to pick up the rest of the treasures (I'll be perfectly blunt though, the treasures here are not too great), read the next paragraph. If not, just skip it and continue. From the door, continue to the first fork. Turn left twice to find a Flash. Turn around and go left two times. At the locked door, use your Dungeon Key and proceed until you hit another split. Go right and follow the path to the end, where you will find a Cola. Boss Fight: Skeleton ~ =------------------= A number of Skeletons are pitted against you in this battle. To put it bluntly, these are not that much harder than your typical random encounter monsters. In fact, they will eventually condescend to random encounters later on in the game. Have Odin and Myau use their regular physical attacks whilst Alis and Noah use Fire. If Alis does not have that spell learned at this point, regular attacks should suffice. The reward of the battle will be the Iron Fang, a weapon for Myau. Equip it immediately to give him a nice attack boost. That is really it for this cave, so use Noah's Exit spell to warp yourself out of there. He really is convenient, isn't hhe? Return to the Palma Spaceport. He is not really too important at this point, so ignore him and exit the tunnel. ========== - GOTHIC - ========== Wow, what a depressing looking place. The houses are all empty and the shady inhabitants will only speak to you if you give them a Cola. A guy at the west end of the town will prevent you from going through in to his territory. Note that there is a shop. Gothic Second-Hand Shop ~ ======================= * Flash - Illuminates dungeon Cost: 20 MST * Transer - Teleport to last visited church Cost: 48 MST * Mag. Just across is the walled city containing the Palma Starport and the two other towns. The enemies in this area are tougher than the ones you've faced before. Watch out especially for Vampires and Serpents. Anyway, our next destination is the Triada Prison, which is located to the south. Go east along the outside edge of the mountain range until you come across a path leading west. The Robot Cop at the front will ask to see your Roadpass. Show it to him unless you want to fight. I'd suggest you abide by his orders because he is quite powerful. There are many prisoners in the complex who you can talk to (after unlocking their cell of course). Right now, you're looking for a Dr. Luveno, who can be found in the second wing, fourth door down. The first time, he will just kick you out. Try to talk to him again twice more and he'll finally give in. He agrees to help you. With that, Dr. Luveno will just walk out of his cell (there must be something illegal about what you just did) back to Gothic. Use Exit or walk out of the prison and return to Gothic. You will find Dr. Luveno in the house just right of the town Second-Hand Shop. He will tell you to go fetch his assistant, who's still in the Gothic Tunnel. Return there (it's the upper-right building if you forgot) and find his assistant in the niche branching off of the main path. Upon speaking to him, return to Gothic and go to Dr. Luveno again. Pay the extortionist his 1200 MST and he will ask you to wait a while. Visit him three more times and his spaceship, the Luveno, will be completed. There is a slight complication however. Only a robot by the name of Hapsby is capable of flying this spaceship. Of course, it's your job to go find him. Before you continue, you might want to return to Camineet and heal up at Suelo's house (alternatively, you can pay the hefty fee at the Gothic hospital). Purchase a few Burgers for the journey as well. Leave Gothic and begin to make your way south along the coastline. When you hit the south end of the continent, head west, north, and east again. You'll eventually arrive at a huge field of molten lava. For every step you take, your characters will lose 2 HP. Be careful because you can also encounter monsters here as well. Once you're across, go west and enter the destroyed town. =========== - BORTEVO - =========== The town of Bortevo has been completely ravaged. Turn around to the last fork and go right and then left. From here, go straight and right to find a chest containing a nice sum of 100 MST. Turn back around and go left at the split. Then, pull a right at the next fork. When you hit the four-way split, turn left and follow the path. Go right twice and snag the Flash from the chest. Then, return to the four-way split and turn left. At the end of the path is the exit to the northwestern continent. Once outside, go east and follow the linear path through the rocks. Then, make your way northwest along the coastline. Eventually, you'll hit an opening in the rocks, allowing you to travel further inland. Just east is the town of Loar. ======== - LOAR - ======== Loar is a fairly small town, but there are a few things to do. First of all, revive any characters that may have died along the way and then heal everyone at the hospital. I know I know, it isn't free, but it's better than walking all the way back to Camineet. Loar Armory ~ =========== * White Mantle - DEF +5 Cost: 78 MST * Heat Gun - ATK +30 Cost: 1540 MST * Silver Fang - ATK +30 Cost: 1620 MST I suggest you purchase a Heat Gun for Odin. Much like the Needle Gun, the Heat Gun hits all enemies on the screen. It deals 10 HP damage as opposed to the 5 HP damage the Needle Gun dealt. Purchase the Silver Fang for Myau to give him a nice boost in attack. Once you're finished with Loar, leave town and go further to the north. Travel in a generally northwestern direction until you hit the city of Abion at the northwest corner of the continent. ========= - ABION - ========= If you saw the creepy man in the Bortevo Cave, you'd have learned that the Polymaterial can be found in Abion. Check the First Food Shop and purchase it for 1600 MST. Anyway, now that you have the Polymaterial, you can return to Bortevo to find Hapsby the robot. Heal up at the hospital if necessary and backtrack to the ruined town. Go to the house with the blue door and use the Polymaterial on the heap of metal in front of you. The metal will melt away, revealing Hapsby. Now, return to Luveno's lab in Gothic to activate the spaceship. To use it, go to the man at the west side of town. He will now you let through. The Luveno is just beyond. ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ ~ 5.4. The Amber Eye [5400] ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ The Luveno can take you to one of three locations: Gothic (where you are), Uzo, and Skure. Pick Uzo on Motavia for now. ======= - UZO - ======= Uzo is a city on Motavia that is a bit to the south of Paseo. A huge mountain range blocks Paseo from Uzo, so it's impossible to get to Paseo from your current location without return to Camineet and flying from the Palma Starport. There are two shops here to browse. Uzo Armory ~ ========== * Heat Gun - ATK +30 Cost: 1540 MST * Light Saber - ATK +46 Cost: 2980 MST * Ceramic Shield - DEF +23 Cost: 1400 MST Uzo First Food Shop ~ =================== * Cola - Restores 10 HP Cost: 10 MST * Burger - Restores 40 HP Cost: 40 MST I would strongly recommend that you purchase a Light Saber for Alis. As for Odin, he is better off just using the Heat Gun for now. If you have the extra money, purchase Ceramic Shields for Alis and Odin as well. When you're done shopping, check the house at the northwest corner of Uzo that is right next to the church. The man inside will ask if you have heard about the Soothing Flute. Say no and he'll tell you that he buried it near Gothic. That's all the information we need. Return to Gothic via the Luveno and do a little snooping around. Go to the southwest corner of town and check the tree at the end of the path. Search the tree to find the Soothing Flute, a special item that allows you to exit a dungeon at any time. It's quite convenient! Now, get back on the Luveno and return to Uzo. It's time for some more dungeon-raiding. Stock up on healing items and make sure everyone is at full health. Then, leave Uzo through any one of its exits and head in a gradual southwest direction. You should eventually arrive at a city surrounded by grey stones with a lake blocking its entrance. Unfortunately, Casba is clearly inaccessible to you at the moment. The next best thing is Casba Cave, which is located just south of Casba. ============== - CASBA CAVE - ============== Floor 1 _ _ _ _ Key ~ |_|_|_|_| [M] - To Motavia |_| |_| [C] - To Casba |_| |_| [8] [#] - Stairs |_| |_| |_| [#M] - Mesetas |_| |_| [4] |_| [E] - Empty Chest |_| |_| |_| |_| [B] - Blue Dragon |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | |_| |_| |_| [1] |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | _|_| | | [M] [5]_|_| [C] Floor 2 Floor 3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [7]_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_[7] |_| |_|_|_[B] _ _ _ _ | | |_| _ _ |_| |_|_ _ [3]_|_|_|_| [8] |_| |_|_[3] |_| |_|_|_| [100M] | | |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| [4] |_| |_|_ _ _|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| _ |_| | | |_| |_| |_| |_|>|_| |_| [E] |_| |_| [1] |_| | |||_| |_|_ _ _|_|_|_| [2] |_| |_| [2]||_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_ _|_| | | ||_| |_| |_| [6] |_|_|_|_| [6] ,-'|_| |_| |_| |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ | |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_[5] [100M] |_|_|_| _ _|_|_ _ |_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| At the beginning, follow the linear path. At the end will be a staircase leading to the second floor. This path is straightforward, so go to the end where another staircase is located. On the third floor, walk forward until you reach a split in the path. Turn right twice and then pull a left at the split that follows. You should reach a four-way intersection. From here, you can go straight for a chest containing 100 MST. Return to the four-way split and turn right until you reach another fork. Prepare yourself for an imminent boss battle and turn right to meet the Blue Dragon. Boss Fight: Blue Dragon ~ =---------------------= The Blue Dragon attacks with a very strong fire attack that can easily deal 30+ HP damage. Unfortunately, Myau's Wall spell is useless because the barrier will immediately dissipate as soon as you cast it. In order to survive, you will need to defeat the Blue Dragon swiftly. Use the strongest spells at your disposal. Have Alis cast Fire and Noah cast Wind. Both spells are very effective in this battle. Your reward will be an Amber Eye. This item will come in handy later in the game. As for now, turn around and return to the last split. Turn left, right, and right again to find a chest containing 100 MST. In order to reach the other end of the cave, you will have to climb a series of staircases. From your curent position, turn around and go straight at the first fork. Then, turn left at the next fork and turn right at the split that follows. The path will lead you to a staircase (marked [3] on the map). You're back on floor two again. Just walk down the linear path up the next staircase. From this point, just follow the series of staircases until you reach the exit. There won't be any branches off of the path or anything, so no need to worry about that. Once you exit the cave, you'll find yourself inside Casba. ========= - CASBA - ========= Yeah, you went through all of that trouble just to reach this town. If you need the healing, there's a hospital nearby. There are also two shops located at the southwest corner of town. Casba Second-Hand Shop 1 ~ ======================== * Landrover - Can travel over Antlion nests Cost: 5200 MST Casba Second-Hand Shop 2 ~ ======================== * Flash - Illuminates dungeon Cost: 20 MST * Transer - Teleport to last visited church Cost: 48 MST * Sphere - Enables user to talk with enemies Cost: 30 MST The item that probably caught your attention was the Landrover. This transportation device can travel over Antlion hills with ease. However, it comes at an expensive price tag. I personally think it's a waste of money. 5200 MST for a vehicle that will only occasionally come in handy is way too much. You're better off saving your money. Well, you didn't come to Casba for nothing. Go inside the building to the left of the hospital. The man inside will ask if you've ever heard of the Hovercraft. Say yes and he will inform you that he purchased it in Scion but abandoned it in Bortevo. After conversing with him, backtrack through the Casba Cave and return to Bortevo on Palma. Yes, you'll have to cross that lava pool again. When you enter Bortevo, go inside the ruined house closest to you. Use the search command on the pile of rubble to find the Hovercraft! Hapsby will restore it back to working condition. Using it is easy. Simply stand next to the coastline (it can also go over lava) and select the Hovercraft from the inventory. To get off, just select the Hovercraft from the inventory again. With the Hovercraft, stand next to the river north of Bortevo and go east. You will eventually reach the walled region containing the Palma Starport and Camineet. Disembark here and head into Camineet for some healing from Suelo. Then, leave and make your way over to the peninsula where the South Scion Cave is located. Stand at the south end and use your Hovercraft. Go south until you hit a platform in the middle of the sea. Located on this metal island is the town of Drasgow. =========== - DRASGOW - =========== Drasgow is a very small town of three buildings. None of them are really important except for the bottom one, which I'll refer to as the Drasgow Warehouse. Before you enter, make sure you have 1000 MST to spare (that should not be an issue though). Continue until you hit another split. Turn left and walk all the way to the end, where you'll find the Gas Shield shop. Purchase one for 1000 MST; you'll need it later on. Use the Flute to exit and leave Drawgow. Return to Gothic (feel free to stop back in Camineet if you need to heal or anything) via the Hovercraft and use the Luveno to fly to Uzo. From Uzo, travel west, following the line of Antlion nests. Eventually, you will hit some mountains. From there, go north until you reach a lake. Use your Hovercraft on the opening nearby and travel in a generally westward direction. At the end, you'll reach an area that appears to covered with a thick, green gas. Disembark here. The Gas Shield you purchased before will protect your party from the gas. Travel northeast until you reach the town of Sopia. ========= - SOPIA - ========= Sopia is in a pretty ruined condition right now. As you can see, the extent of Lassic's evil has led to decline almost everywhere. There is a hospital here if you need to heal. Go into the left-most house in the middle row and speak with the head of the village. Because the town is in very poor shape, he'll ask if you can donate 400 MST. Have a heart and give him the money. He will then tell you of a legend that says the special shield Perseus used in the battle against Medusa can be found on a small island in the middle of a lake. Before you go, you may want to pay the girl, Miki, in the ruined house next door a visit. Haha, it's a little self plug on Sega's part. Anyway, leave Sopia and get back to the lake. Use your Hovercraft to get to the island in the middle of the lake, which can be reached by going east. There's a lone Antlion nest on the island, in case you can't recognize it. Once there, search the patch of empty sand just below the Antlion hill to find the Mirror Shield. Equip it on Odin for a tremendous boost in defense. Return to Sopia and heal up at the hospital. Once you're finished there, leave town and go directly south. Cross the water to the other side and travel west until you're blocked by the mountain range. From here, go south until you reach a cave. =================== - TARZIMAL'S CAVE - =================== Floor 1 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Key ~ [Wh]_|_|_| |_|_|_|_| |_|_|_[W] [#] - Stairs |_|_|_| |_|_|_| [#M] - Mesetas |_|_|_| |_|_|_| [~] - False Wall _ _|_| [3000M] |_|_ _ [-] - Door |_|_|_| | | |_|_|_| [C] - Cola |_| [-] |_| [W] - Woodcane |_| _ _ _|_|_ _ _ _ |_| [Wh] - White Mantle |_| |_|_|_| |_|_|_|_| |_| [F] - Flash |_|_ _ _ _[~]_ _ _ _|_| [B] - Burger |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_| [Ti] - Titanium Sword |_|_ _ _|_|_ _ _ [E] - Empty Chest |_|_[1] |_|_|_|_|_|_| [T] - Tarzimal (fight for | | | | Frade Mantle) [Entrance] [C] Floor 2 Floor 3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| [300M] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_|_ _ _ _|_| |_| |_| [T]_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _ _|_| |_|_ _ _|_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _|_|_ _ |_| |_|_ _ _ _ _ |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_[E] |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_[F] |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| _ _|_|_ _ _ _ _ _|_|_ _|_|_ _ _ _ _ | | _ _|_|_ _ |_|_|_|_|_| [E]_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [E] |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| [~]_ _ _ _ _ _ | | |_| |_| _|_| |_| [2] |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [2] |_| [B] |_| [1]_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _|_|_ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_| | | | | | | |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| [500M] [Ti] [E] As the maps indicate, this is a pretty complex dungeon. There are plenty of treasures, some of which aren't too useful. Some of the monsters in this dungeon are pretty tough. I've actually encountered a Red Dragon at one point. The Amundsen monsters are no pushovers either. As an extra note, make an attempt to save Noah's MP - you will see why later. From the start, walk forward until you hit a fork. Go straight to find a Cola inside the chest. Return to the split and turn right. The path will extend pretty far before you hit another fork. You can go straight for a Woodcane, but I don't think you'd want to waste your time collecting such a useless item. To proceed, turn left and follow the path to another split. Right leads to a White Mantle inside a chest. Go down the other path until you hit a split again. From the split, go forward three steps and turn to the left. Attempt to walk into the wall and you'll discover a false wall. Behind it is a door leading to a chest containing a whopping 3000 MST. What a find! Go back through the wall and return to the last split. Turn left into the path to find the staircase leading to the next level. Walk up to the first split and turn right. Then follow the path to another split. Go straight here to the end of the path for a Burger. Turn back around and go left and left again. At this split, you can go right for a Flash inside a chest. To proceed, go the other way and turn right at the five splits that follow. Then, at the next split, turn left and descend the staircase at the end to the next floor. Go to the split and turn left. Go straight past the next two forks that follow. Along the left wall, about three steps in front of the last step you just went through, is another false wall. Straight leads to a chest containing a nice prize of 500 MST (still doesn't compare to the 3000 MST you found before). The other way leads to a chest containing a Titanium Sword. Go back through the false wall and turn right. Turn left at the first split you come across and advance to the end, where you'll find a chest with 500 MST. Return to the last split and turn left. At the fork that follows, go left. Then, go left again and unlock the door with your Dungeon Key. Before you walk to the end, make sure that Noah is fully healed. Hopefully, you took my advice and conserved his MP. At the end of the path is Tarzimal, Noah's original teacher. To make sure that he's prepared to take on Lassic, Tarzimal challenges him to a duel. Boss Fight: Tarzimal ~ =------------------= Have Noah cast Prot to put up a magical barrier - this will deflect the Fire spells that Tarzimal casts at you. For the most part, he should be relatively safe behind the barrier, but be prepared to cast it again when it wears off. Attack using Wind to quickly deplete Tarzimal's rather low HP. It shouldn't take more than three castings to bring him down. Should Noah run out of MP in the process, use regular attacks and heal with a Burger whenever necessary. Your fabulous reward for defeating Tarzimal is the Frade Mantle, Noah's best armor. Equip it for a huge boost in defense (Frade Mantle adds +40 to defense whereas Noah's White Mantle only offers +5 to defense). With that, cast Exit. If Noah is out of MP, use Myau's Exit spell. If both of them are out of MP, just use the Flute. ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ ~ 5.5. The Forgotten Tower [5500] ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ Now it's time to return to Uzo. Go back through the lake and stop in at the hospital to heal up. Then, disembark on the Luveno to Skure on Dezoris. Unfortunately, the Luveno doesn't actually land in Skure. Rather, you'll have to go through a fairly lengthy tunnel to reach it. Return to Palma via the Luveno and make your way to Abion. You can easily reach Abion with the Hovercraft by simply west down the river by Gothic. Sail until you hit Bortevo and then turn north towards the other continent. You can't directly get off right next to Abion because there are rocks surrounding it. Instead, you'll have to walk around. Inside Abion, purchase a Laser Shield for Noah at the Armory. Then, heal up at the hospital. Be sure to buy a few healing items before continuing if you're running short on your Burger supply. There's another chest located here containing 20 MST. Now, turn back around, and go straight at the split. Unlock the door and follow the path until you hit another fork. Go straight again, and you'll reach a staircase leading back outside. You will find yourself on the island in the middle of the lake in Abion. Enter the other building nearby. Inside, an odd-looking creature, Dr. Mad, will demand that you give him your cat. Refuse to. If you do hand Myau over, he will kill him, forcing you to fight Dr. Mad with one unit down. Boss Fight: Dr. Mad ~ =-----------------= Dr. Mad's primary attack is a fireball he launches from his waist. Depending on which time in the game you fight him, this battle can either be extremely difficult or laughably easy. Assuming you've acquired the strongest armor and weapons up to that point, all you really need to do is batter him with physical attacks. If you find that Dr. Mad's attacks are taking a huge hit out of your HP, set Noah or Myau aside for healing and let Noah cast Wind while Odin attacks. Defeat the cat-hating madman, and he will leave behind another Laconian Pot. Once you attain it, go back through the Abion Warehouse passage. Unfortunately, you can't just cast Exit and be done with it because you will only end up back on the island. There is nothing else to do in Abion, so heal up and purchase any restorative items you may need. I would strongly suggest stocking up on a few Burgers for the coming dungeon. Leave Abion and travel to Scion. From there, use your Hovercraft to sail in a generally eastward direction. You'll eventually come across a small island with a monument on it. Disembark and enter the Forgotten Tower. =================== - FORGOTTEN TOWER - =================== Floor 1 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Key ~ |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [#] - Stairs |_| | | _ _ _ _ _|_| [#M] - Mesetas |_| [-] |_|_|_|_[|]_|_| [@] - Pit |_| [2] |_| |_| |_| [X] - Pit Landing |_| |_|_ _|_| |_|_ _ |_| [|] - Door |_| |_|_|_|_| |_|_|_[3] |_| [B] - Burger |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_| [E] - Empty Chest |_|_[|]_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_| [M] - Man |_| _ _|_| |_|_ |_| |_| [R] - Red Dragon (fight for |_| [1]_|_| |_|_[20M[-] |_| Laconian Sword) |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _| |_|_| |_|_|_|_[|]_|_|_[|]_|_[X]_|_| | | [Entrance] Floor 2 Floor 3 [100M] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ | _ _ _ _ _[E] |_|_|_| |_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| || [B] |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_ _ [6]| |_| [M] |_| | | |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|<---' |_| [7] |_| | | [2] |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_| [4] _ _|_| | | _ _|_| [4] |_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_| [5] [3]_|_|_| [X] |_| [5] _|_| |_| _ _ _ _ _ _ _[X]_ _ _|_| |_| [B]_|_| |_| [@]_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_| |_|_ _ _ _ |_| |_|_ |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _ _|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_[1] |_| |_|_ _ _ |_| |_| [E]_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_| | |_| |_| |_| [E] |_|_ _|_| |_| [X] |_| |_| [@] |_| |_|[1M] [@] |_| |_| |_|_|_|_| |_|_ _|_|_|_| |_|_ _|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_| |_| Floor 4 Floor 5 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_| [E] |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| | | |_| |_| _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_|[20M]|_| [6] |_| [7] |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| | | |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| _ _ _ _ |_| |_| [B] |_| |_| |_| |_| _ _ _|_| | | | | |_|_|_[|]_[R] | | | | [@]_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_| [-] [-] |_|_ _ _ _ [-] [-] |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _|_| |_|_ _|_| |_| |_|_ _ _ _ |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| _ _ _ _ _|_| |_| |_|_ _ |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| [8]_[|]_|_|_|_| | |_| |_|_|_[8] |_| |_|_ _|_| |_| |_| [E] |_| |_| |_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _|_| _ _ _ _|_|_ _ _ _ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| [B]_[|]_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| As you can see from the maps, this dungeon is pretty huge. You should have plenty of healing items available. Most of the monsters in this dungeon are not difficult to defeat. However, you will want to be wary of Marauders, who are very powerful. There is plenty of treasure in this dungeon. However, there is nothing really too valuable in this dungeon (except, of course, for the prize at the end). If you feel like seeking out every last Burger and MST chest, by all means, ignore the following steps and search them out on your own time. To save you (and myself as well) the headache, I'll list the directions leading up to the Red Dragon with the shortest path possible. From the start, turn right and unlock the door. Walk down the path until you hit a split. If you feel like it, you can take a short trip down the left path for a chest containing 20 MST (which is probably chump change at this point). Continue down the path and turn left at the next fork you arrive at. Go through the door here and advance down the path until you reach a staircase leading to level 2. On the next floor, turn left at the first fork in the path. Then, turn left again at the following split. The path should eventually lead you to another staircase. Ascend it to floor three and follow the path. Go right at the first split you come across. Then, turn left at the fork that follows (wow, this is getting tedious). Turn left again and walk down this path until you reach yet another split. If you go straight, you'll find a weird old man who suggests that you turn back. Of course, that's not going to happen so pull a left to reach a four-way intersection. Go straight to pick up a Burger. Then, turn back around and turn left to find another staircase. You are now on level four. From the staircase, follow the long, linear path until you hit a split. Turn left here and turn left again at the split that immediately follows. You'll find an empty treasure chest near the end of this path. Turn right here and unlock the door. Beyond it is the staircase leading to the final floor. Yes, the end is in sight! Walk down the twisting path, unlocking the doors you come across. Yes, the path is extremely long; bear with me. Keep in mind that monsters on this floor are considerably tougher than the monsters you fought on the other floors. Hopefully, you've saved some Burgers. Eventually, you will come to a split in the path. Go straight if you want a Burger. Turn the other way and follow the path through a few more locked doors. After a bit of walking, you'll reach the Red Dragon. Boss Fight: Red Dragon ~ =--------------------= The Red Dragon is a pretty fearsome-looking thing. It does not pose much of a threat though. First, use Myau's Wall spell to put up a magical barrier. This will reflect any attacks the Red Dragon throws at you. Then, use your strongest spells to quickly deplenish his health. Have Alis cast Fire and Noah cast Wind. You should be able to kill the Red Dragon within the course of a few turns. Your reward for this grueling trip is a Laconian Sword. Give it to either Odin or Alis (whoever you favor) for a huge boost in attack. Then, use Exit to leave the dungeon. Return to Gothic and fly to Uzo. Once you arrive, purchase a few Burgers and leave town. Head west until you reach a mountain chain. Fight Sandworms in this area because they reward you with lots of MST. Raise up around 25000 MST. This will take a while, I know. Save often lest someone kicks or console (or something) and you lose all of your earnings. If you don't have the patience to raise 25000 MST, you can get away with 12000 MST. I encourage you to get the full 25000 MST though because you can gain a few levels along the way. Once you're done with that, go to Paseo and purchase a Diamond Armor for Alis. If you only raised 15000 MST, you can't purchase it because you also need another 12000 MST for something else. Now, return to Uzo and fly the Luveno over to Skure in Dezoris. Head into the overworld and travel in a generally southeastern direction. After a short walk, you'll reach an ice cave. ============================== - DEZORIS TUNNEL SECTION ONE - ============================== Floor 1 [D2] Key ~ |_| [#M] - Mesetas |_|_ _ [E] - Empty Chest |_|_|_| [D2] - To Dezoris Tunnel 2 | | |_| [100M] |_| _ _|_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | _ _ _ _ _ _|_| [E] |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| | | [Entrance] This first in a series of caves is fairly straightforward. Once you've purchased the Ice Digger, leave Twintown and go back through the Twintown Passage. From outside Twintown, go back through the previous Dezoris Tunnel cave. This open area is referred to as the Altiplano Plateau. If you ever hear me referring to this location again, you'll know what I'm talking about. Anyway, get on the Ice Digger to make traveling a bit quicker, and travel west, south, and west again past the other cave. At the fork that follows that one, turn right. As soon as you see the door a few steps in front of you, use Myau's Trap spell to disarm a trap pit directly in front of you. If you accidentally fell through, just climb the steps back up to the first floor (don't use the staircase that leads to a dead end though). Once you're past the trap pit, simply go through the door and open the chest for the Laconian Armor. Equip this on Odin and leave. Oh yeah, if you want to go out of your way for a Burger, there's one in a chest in the basement. Get back on the Ice Digger and backtrack southeast through the mountain passage. Return to the open center of the Altiplano and ram your Ice Digger into the ice to the southeast. You should be able to break down the ice around here. Then, return to the fork and turn left. Go through the next two doors and continue until you reach another split. Turn left here. Before you go to the end, heal up and ready yourself for a boss fight. Boss Fight: Titan ~ =---------------= At the beginning of the fight, have Myau cast Help on Alis and himself. Let Noah use either Wind or Thun and have Alis, Myau, and Odin attack physically. The Titan does not have that much HP, but it can hit pretty hard. Your reward for winning is the Aeroprism (Prism). With it in your inventory, leave the Aeroprism Cave and return to the Altiplano Plateau. At this point, you might want to head back to Twintown for some healing. Afterwards, return to the Altiplano Plateau near the area where you broke through the ice. The monsters you will encounter here are fairly tough, so make sure your party is healed up and prepared for the journey up the tower. Anyhow, from the start, go straight to a split. Turn left and go straight at the next split. At the following fork, turn right and head up the steps to the next floor. Up ahead, you'll notice a four-way split. Turn left to hit another yet another four-way split. Look to the left, but do not step over the path yet! Use Trap to reveal the trap hole in the ground here. Then, walk forward a few steps to find a chest containing a healthy sum of 500 MST. Now, turn around and turn left at the next three splits that follow. Ascend the staircase you come across. Go straight and turn to the right. If you want 20 MST, you can go straight at the next split and turn right. To proceed further though, just pull a left. Go right at the next fork for a Cola inside a chest. Then, turn around and go straight past the first fork and turn right at the second. You can turn left for a Flash at the next split if you want. Otherwise, just turn to the right, continue down the path, and turn left twice. Then, turn right twice to finally hit the staircase to the next level. On this final floor, all you have to do is follow the linear path to the end. There are no splits, nothing to worry about. Just maintain your sense of direction (make sure you're going forwards, not backwards) until you reach a door. Go through it and talk to the man at the end. He will offer to trade you the Eclipse Torch for the Amber Eye (he refers to it as a gem from a dragon). Make the trade and leave the tower once you have the prize. The next stop is not too far from here. Feel free to go back to Twintown to heal if necessary. When you're ready, travel a bit further to the west of the Corona Tower. Use the Ice Digger to speed up the journey. At the end, you will find the Dezoris West Cave, location of the Laconian Shield. ===================== - DEZORIS WEST CAVE - ===================== Key ~ [#] - Stairs [-] - Door [#M] - Mesetas [@] - Pit [X] - Pit Landing [E] - Empty Chest [M] - Magic Hat [C] - Ceramic Shield [L] - Laconian Shield [D] - Dezorian (who tells filthy lies!) Do not listen to him! If you do, you'll fall into the "endless" trap of the Dezoris West Cave. Instead, turn right at the first split and head down the steps. On the next floor, just walk a few steps to the next staircase. Simply follow the linear path, going through the network of stairs (there are a lot of them!) until you actually come to another fork in the path. Go straight for 50 MST. Then, return to the fork and turn left. At the next split, go straight. Then, at the split that follows, you can turn left for a Magic Hat or turn right to proceed with the level. At the next fork beyond that, turn right and go all the way to the end of the path to find a Ceramic Shield! Turn around and go straight at the split. At the end, you should reach a staircase. On the next floor, advance until you hit a split. Go straight and continue until you reach the next staircase. From here on out, it's just a process of following the next few staircases. There won't be any splits in the path to worry about. When you reach the locked door, you'll know that you're at the end. Unlock it and attain the Laconian Shield from the chest. Equip it on Alis for a huge boost in defense. That's pretty much it for this cave. The last thing to do here on Dezoris is to obtain the Nut of Laerma. Backtrack past the Corona Tower and through the Corona Tower Passage. From here, travel directly east until you hit a mountain range. Then, go a bit to the southeast and enter the first cave you come across. Make your way through this one and travel west once you emerge. At the end, you'll notice a line of mountains blocking your access to the rest of the Altiplano Plateau. Embark on the Ice Digger here and go south through the mountains. In the clearing, head to the middle of the large forest, where there is a lone tree. Walk into it and use the Eclipse Torch on it. Alis will automatically take the Nut of Laerma and place it in the Laconian Pot. I am pleased to inform you that YOU ARE DONE WITH DEZORIS. That's right! There is no more trudging through miles and miles of tundra wasteland. Begin to move a little bit south and you'll notice a path along the side of the mountain. You have the option of traveling either down the right path or the left path. You will may notice that there are a bunch of chests containing small sums of MST and other useless items. At this point in the game, I doubt you'll want to be wasting time treasure hunting, so I'll ignore the various treasures scattered through the tower. Still, if you're up for it, all the treaures are yours for the taking. Another thing to note: the monsters in Medusa's Tower are quite difficult. Watch out especially for Marauders, who can cast Thun. At the higher floors, monsters like Reapers and Androcops will cross your path. Keep your guard up to stay alive. At the entrance, go straight to a four-way intersection. Here, go straight all the way. Then, turn left and turn right. Follow the path and go straight at the next fork. Then, turn right at the last fork. This should lead you to a staircase. On the next floor, go straight at the first fork and advance down the path. After that, turn left and then right. Go down this path, ignoring the first split that crosses your path. At the next one, turn left to the next staircase. Ascend it to the next level. On this floor, follow the linear path. At the split, you can turn to the right for a chest containing 10 MST. Continue further down the path and you will reach a locked door. Unlock it using the Dungeon Key and proceed. Follow this fairly long path until you come to another split. Turn right, unlock the door, and ascend the staircase just beyond the door. Go down this linear path to a door. Get past it, and you'll soon arrive at a split. Take the left path, and go straight at the split that immediately follows. Then, turn left and go straight past the following fork. The path will lead you to the next staircase. On the next floor, go straight past the first split you come across. Then, unlock the door and continue down the path to the next staircase. Follow the path. At the split, you can turn to the left for a Cola inside a treasure chest. Continue and you'll hit another split in the path. Turn left here (note that there's another staircase further up, but it leads to nothing) and ascend the staircase to the final floor. Turn left until you reach a door. Just beyond it is Medusa, the final boss of the Medusa's Tower. Heal your party and go on to face Medusa. Boss Fight: Medusa ~ =----------------= If Odin isn't equipped with the Mirror Shield, you'll be hard- pressed to finish the battle before Medusa can turn your entire party into stone. Having it equipped makes the battle much easier. Medusa's attacks are very weak. Assuming you have the strongest armor up to that point, most of her attacks will barely deal more than 10 HP damage. Use Alis' Fire spell and Noah's Wind spell to deal the most damage. Defeat Medusa to pick up the fabled Laconian Axe, the strongest weapon in the game. Equip it on Odin for a huge attack boost. When you're ready, use Exit to leave the tower. Your next destination is Baya Malay, which is north of Scion. On the way there, stop at Camineet to heal up. Be sure to stock up on a load of Burgers as well because you're going to need them later on. Sell off any unnecessary items and fill your inventory with healing items. Also purchase a Transer, and leave it in your inventory. You'll thank me later. North of Scion is a tower with a wall that extends up further north. This is the Baya Malay Prison (pretty place, I know), which is the way to the Baya Malay Tower. ===================== - BAYA MALAY PRISON - ===================== Key ~ [#] - Stairs [-] - Door [=] - Sealed Door [P] - Prisoner [R] - Robotcop [B] - To Baya Malay Cave [J] - Jail Cell [S] - To Scion Floor 1 Floor 2 _ _ _ _ _ _ [B] |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| | | |_| _|_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [R] |_| [P]_|_|_[P] |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_ |_| |_| |_| | | | | |_|_[P] |_| _|_|_ |_| [J] [P] |_|_ |_| [P]_|_|_[P] [S] |_|_ _ _ _ _ |_|_[P] |_| | | |_| |_|_| |_|_|_| |_| _|_| [=] _ _|_| [-]_ |_| [P]_|_| |_| [1]_|_|_| |_|_[1] |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | |_|_ _ _ _|_| [Entrance] |_|_|_|_|_|_| There are no random encounters in this place, so there's no need to worry. There are various prison cells along the way that you can unlock. Some of the prisoners have useful advice. Near the end of the corridor, you'll encounter a Robotcop. He will demand to see your Roadpass. Refuse to show him and he will fight you. If you do show him, he will realize that it's a fake and throw you in jail. Escaping is pretty simple. Just walk out and find the door hidden on the wall. After wiping the floor with the guard, proceed to the end of the path to reach the exit to the region around Baya Malay. There are over 20 staircases strewn throughout the tower, and many paths end up leading to dead ends or trap pits. Not only that, but the monsters in this tower are quite difficult. Don't hesitate to use magic spells should the situation turn desperate. There are no boss fights to worry about in this tower. However, exercise good judgment - don't waste all your MP at the very beginning. At the entrance, you'll have to use Noah's Open spell to get through the sealed door. Before you begin, know that there are two specific items that you want to pick up. First off, you need to attain the Crystal (which helps tremendously against a coming boss fight) from Damor, who is located on the top floor of the tower. After collecting that item, you'll need to head back down to pick up the Miracle Key, which acts like a Dungeon Key, with the added benefit of being able to open sealed doors. This item is purely optional, but it's useful because it saves Noah's MP (because he won't have to cast Open every time you come to a sealed door). For the Crystal, pull a left at the first split you come to. Follow the path, go straight at the first split, and then turn left at the next split. At the next fork, you can turn left for a Short Sword (doubt you'll need such a weak weapon at this point). Turn the other way and walk to the end of the path. Ascend the staircase here. The remainder of the path to Damor is straightforward. Climb up the staircases as you arrive at them until you reach the top floor. Along the way, on the fourth floor, you'll encounter a treasure chest sitting in the middle of the path. Don't open it because it's a trap. A bit past that chest is one final staircase to the top floor. Unlock the door using the Dungeon Key and head inside. He will ask you a few questions. Answer his questions correctly and you'll be rewarded with the Crystal (Yes, Yes, Yes, No, No). With the Crystal in your inventory, use the Exit spell to arrive at the entrance to the dungeon. If you need to, return to Camineet to heal and restock on healing items. When you are ready, re-enter the Baya Malay Tower. The Miracle Key is located on the second floor. To reach it, go straight past the first two forks. Then, turn right at the next split you reach. Turn left at the one that immediately follows. Finally, turn right and ascend the staircase at the end. Here, follow the path straight past the first split. At the second one, you can turn right to find a chest containing a Burger. To proceed, just go straight beyond that fork to another staircase. On the next floor, turn right twice. At the next fork, there's a chest in the little niche containing 100 MST. Turn right here. At the next few forks, turn right all four times and you'll eventually reach a staircase. From this point, turn left at the fork and go straight down the path. At the end is a chest containing the elusive Miracle Key. Before you proceed, feel free to return to Camineet for some healing. The directions out of the Baya Malay Tower are in relations to the Miracle Key though, so if your party is still fine, there's no need to waste time and return. From the Miracle Key chest, turn right. At the four-way intersection, take the left path to a staircase. Here, follow the path until you come across another fork. Turn left and then turn right to a staircase. On this floor, go straight past the first split and then turn left at the next one. Descend the staircase located here. On this floor, just follow the linear path to yet another staircase. You're on the third basement floor, the lowest floor of the entire tower. At the first two splits, turn left at both of them. Unlock the door and follow the path to another fork. Here, turn left to a staircase. Turn left and right at the first two forks. This will lead to a staircase. Yeah I know. This is getting pretty tedious now. At the first fork on the next floor, you can turn right to find a chest containing 500 MST. Go the other way straight past the next split to another staircase. At this point, it might not seem like it, but you're back on the first floor again (in a different location of course). Up ahead is a fork. Straight leads to a chest containing a Lightsaber. Left leads to the next staircase. Take the latter path to the next floor. From here, walk until you reach a split. Turn left and ascend the staircase at the end of the path. On this next floor, turn right at the fork. Do not turn left here. I repeat, DO NOT TURN LEFT. There's a hidden trap pit located there. Anyway, turn right twice at the next two forks that follow. Follow this linear path and climb up the staircase at the end. We're almost there! From your current position, go straight past the first two forks and then turn left. Go up the staircase here. On this floor, take one pace forward, turn left, take two paces forward, and turn left again. Use Myau's Trap spell to reveal the trap pit hidden here. From here on out, it's just a process of opening doors and following the path. Take the staircase to reach the very top of the Baya Malay Tower. ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ ~ 5.8. Shining in the Darkness [5800] ~-----------------------------------------------------------------------------~ At the peak of the tower, use the Prism to reveal the Celestial Castle. Yes! Now, how exactly do you get your party up there? Select the Nut of Laerma from the inventory and use it. Myau will eat it and transform into a beautiful winged beast. With his help, the party manages to fly up. Unfortunately, a Gold Dragon will appear to stop you. Boss Fight: Gold Dragon ~ =---------------------= The Gold Dragon is easily defeated with a string of regular attacks. I strongly recommend that you save your MP here because there will be a few more boss fights coming up in the following dungeon. The Gold Dragon isn't particularly powerful, and you should be able to defeat it by simply exchanging blows. Defeating the Gold Dragon will allow you to reach the floating island thingy. The houses along the path hold nothing of interest. Unfortunately, there's no place to heal along the way. The last house before the Celestial Castle hides a Serpent that you'll have to fight. Avoid it by simply not entering the house. ==================== - CELESTIAL CASTLE - ==================== Floor 1 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Key ~ |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| [#] - Stairs |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| [-] - Door |_| | | |_| |_| | | |_| [=] - Sealed Door |_| [-] |_| |_| [-] |_| [S] - Shadow |_| [1] |_| |_| [8] |_| [L] - Lassic |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _ _ _|_| |_|_ _ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| | | |_| _|_| [E] |_| [L[=]_|_| Floor 2 Floor 3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| [1] |_| |_| [8] |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _|_| |_| |_|_ _|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | |_| |_| | | |_| |_| [2] |_| |_| [7] |_| |_| [2] |_| |_| [7] |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _|_|_|_| |_|_ _|_|_|_| |_|_ _|_| |_|_ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_[3] |_|_| |_|_[6] |_|_| Floor 4 Floor 5 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | |_| |_| | | |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| [4] |_| |_| [5] |_| | | [4] |_| |_| [5] |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| [-] |_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_| |_| _ _|_| |_| _ _|_| | | |_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_| [3]_|_|_| [6]_|_|_| [S] |_| |_|_ _ _ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| As you can see from the dungeon layout, The Celestial Castle isn't overly complicated. However, getting all the way to the top will take a LONG time. Hopefully, you've come prepared with enough restorative items to last you through the dungeon. The monsters here are quite tough. Go straight at the first fork and turn left at the next split. Go through the door and ascend the staircase here. On the second floor, turn left twice and climb the staircase. You are now on the third floor. Follow the linear path until you hit a fork. Turn left here and follow the long path until you reach yet another staircase. From here, follow the path to a fork. Turn left here and climb up the staircase. Proceed down this linear path until you reach a locked door. Use the Miracle/Dungeon Key to unlock, but before you proceed, heal up your party. Just beyond the doorway is Shadow. Boss Fight: Shadow ~ =----------------= Shadow's attack knocks off a healthy chunk of HP. It's very important that your entire party is healed up for this fight to prevent him from killing any of your units. Conserving MP is important, so refrain from using too much magic. If you need to, use Myau's Wall spell to deflect Shadow's attacks. All in all, physical attacks should be enough to deplete his small HP bar. After defeating Shadow, follow the path to another staircase. It's a long walk, so prepare yourself for a few random encounters along the way. You're back on floor four now. The rest of the way is essentially the same path you took on the way up, but in reverse. From your current position, turn right at the first fork and follow the path to another staircase. Here, follow the path until you reach a fork. Turn right and take the staircase. Then, turn right twice and take the next staircase. Go through the door, turn right, and follow the path straight until you can't go any further. Then, turn to the right and unseal the door (using the Miracle Key). Heal up your party. King Lassic awaits just beyond. He will ask you one last time if you would really kill an old man (harhar). It doesn't matter which option you pick because you'll be thrust into battle regardless. Boss Fight: Lassic ~ =----------------= Lassic will probably be the most difficult boss you've encountered thus far (and for good reason too because he is, after all, the great King Lassic). He has a large amount of HP that'll take quite a few turns to deplete. In addition, Lassic will often dodge your physical attacks with ease. For that reason, magic spells are very important in this battle. Over the course of the battle, have Alis cast Fire, Myau cast Cure on whoever needs healing, Odin attack, and Noah cast Wind. The most damage will come out of Noah, so do your best to keep him alive for the length of the battle. Lassic himself uses a variant of the Thun spell, which deals damage to all of your units. This attack is a bit quirky though; sometimes, it'll deal pathetic amounts of damage whereas at other times, it can knock off almost 50 HP. Regardless, healing constantly is extremely important. Set aside Myau to cover that. With the other units, pelt Lassic with magic spells until he falls. The task is done! Now all that's left to do is to return to the governor and deliver the good news. Now, leave the Celestial Castle and have Myau fly your party back to the ground. If Myau died during the fight with Lassic, then use Alis' Fly spell or a Transer (this is why I told you to purchase a Transer before). Return to Gothic and revive any dead members party members. Then, heal the wounded at the hospital. Board the Luveno and set a course for Uzo. Leave Uzo and head over to Paseo (located north of Uzo, need to use the Hovercraft to travel by water to reach it), where the Governor's Palace is located. Once in Paseo, travel down the passage to the Governor's Palace in the middle of the city. Once you emerge, you can heal your entire party in the blue building just outside of the palace. When you're ready, enter the Governor's Palace... Alis will enter the palace to find the governor missing...? Suddenly, the floor will give way and your entire party will into a hidden labyrinth under the Governor's Palace. ===================== - GOVERNOR'S PALACE - ===================== Floor 1 [@] Key ~ |_| [-] - Door |_| [=] - Sealed Door | | [@] - Pit [=] [X] - Pit Landing _ _ _ |_| [D] - Darkfalz |_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | | | |_| [-] [-] |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_| | | |_|_|_| [Entrance] Basement 1 Basement 2 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_[X] |_| _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| _ _ _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_| _ _ _ _ _ _ |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| | | | | | | | | | | |_| | | |_| [-] [-] [=] [@] [-] [-] |_| [X] |_| |_| |_| |_|_ _|_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_| |_|_|_|_| |_| |_| |_|_ _ _ _ _|_| |_| |_|_ _ _ _ _ _|_| |_| |_|_|_| |_|_|_| |_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_| [-] |_|_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _|_| |_| [D] |_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|_| |_|_ _ _ _ _|_| |_|_|_|_|_|_|_| This is a very simple dungeon compared to the extremely frustrating dungeons you've slaved through before. Random encounters will appear occasionally. Do not use any MP in these fights because you'll need to save it for the coming boss fight. Begin by unlocking the two doors in your path. This first floor is completely linear, so just follow the path until you reach a sealed door. Use the Miracle Key to unlock it. Then, proceed to a dead end, which turns out to be a trap pit. Don't worry, you're on the right track. Let yourself fall down to the next floor down. The first basement floor is a long path that spirals. Again, the path is completely linear. Proceed down the path through four regular doors. The next door is another magically sealed door. Utilize the Miracle Key to get through it. Then, walk to the end of the path, where another pit will send you falling down to the next level. Here, turn right at the first split. When you round the second corner, walk forward three steps and turn to the left. You'll find a door. Go through it and proceed to the end of the path, where you will come across a sealed door. Use the Miracle Key to open it. Before you continue, make sure your party is fully healed up and ready because just beyond the door, you'll encounter Darkfalz. Boss Fight: Darkfalz ~ =------------------= How easily you finish this fight depends primarily on your party's equipment and levels. If you're fitted with the strongest armor and shields, you should be able to finish this battle quite easily. All this battle really runs down to is how quickly you can deplete Darkfalz's HP while maintaining your party's. Unfortunately, you won't be allowed to view Darkfalz's HP during the fight, so you'll have to just keep on attacking (for the record, he has 400 HP). As soon as the battle starts, have Alis cast Fire, Myau cast Help on Odin, Odin attack, and Noah use Wind. Over the next few turns, repeat this process with the exception of Myau, who should heal whenever necessary. Darkfalz can attack twice per round with a very powerful attack that deals anywhere from 30 to 60 HP damage. Since you can't exactly see Darkfalz's HP, this fight really turns into a battle of attrition. Congratulations, you've finally completed Phantasy Star! Enjoy your well- deserved ending. And if you're up for it, the saga continues, 1000 years later, in Phantasy Star II. *=============================================================================* +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ 6. Boss Listing [10000] +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ *=============================================================================* Every single boss you encounter in Phantasy Star will be listed below in the order they appear. [-----------------------------------------------------------------------------] Saccubus -- 255 HP ~ =----------------= Location: Governor's Mansion (in a dream) Description: Saccubus (meant to be a Succubus, apparently) is meant to kill you. Let him do just that to get the game going. It is possible to beat him, but your reward will only be a measly 10 EXP. Skeleton -- 53 HP ~ =---------------= Location: Scion Peninsula Cave (boss fight) Description: A number of Skeletons are pitted against you in this battle. Blue Dragon -- 210 HP ~ =-------------------= Location: Casba Cave Description: The Blue Dragon attacks with a very strong fire attack that can easily deal 30+ HP damage. Tarzimal -- 125 HP ~ =----------------= Location: Tarzimal's Cave Description: Have Noah cast Prot to put up a magical barrier - this will deflect the Fire spells that Tarzimal casts at you. Dr. Mad -- 233 HP ~ =---------------= Location: Abion Warehouse Description: Dr. Mad's primary attack is a fireball he launches from his waist. Depending on which time in the game you fight him, this fight can either be extremely difficult or laughably easy. Red Dragon -- 175 HP ~ =------------------= Location: Forgotten Tower Description: The Red Dragon is a pretty fearsome-looking thing. Titan -- 190 HP ~ =-------------= Location: Aeroprism Cave Description: At the beginning of the fight, have Myau cast Help on Alis and himself. Let Noah use either Wind or Thun and have Alis, Myau, and Odin attack physically. The Titan does not have that much HP, but it can hit pretty hard. The key is to deplenish his HP before he can deal enough damage to actually be fatal. Do not hesitate to use Cure should one of your units reach critical health. Medusa -- 200 HP ~ =--------------= Location: Medusa's Tower Description: If Odin isn't equipped with the Mirror Shield, you'll be hard-pressed to finish the battle before Medusa can turn your entire party into stone. Having it equipped makes the battle much easier. Medusa's attacks are very weak. Assuming you have the strongest armor up to that point, most of her attacks will barely deal more than 10 HP damage. Use Alis' Fire spell and Noah's Wind spell to deal the most damage. Gold Dragon -- 170 HP ~ =-------------------= Location: Celestial Castle Description: The Gold Dragon is easily defeated with a string of regular attacks. I strongly recommend that you save your MP here because there will be a few more boss fights coming up in the following dungeon. The Gold Dragon isn't particularly powerful, and you should be able to defeat it by simply exchanging blows. Shadow -- 165 HP ~ =--------------= Location: Celestial Castle Description: Shadow's attack knocks off a healthy chunk of HP. Lassic -- 238 HP ~ =--------------= Location: Celestial Castle Description: Lassic will probably be the most difficult boss you've encountered thus far (and for good reason too because he is, after all, the great King Lassic). Darkfalz -- 400 HP ~ =----------------= Location: Governor's Palace Description: How easily you finish this fight depends primarily on your party's equipment and levels. *=============================================================================* +---------------------------------------------------------------------+ 11. Hope you found it enjoyable and helpful. I'll see you later. [-----------------------------------------------------------------------------] RPGClassics.com - The Phantasy Star shrine helped significantly at a few tough portions in the game, along with some various stats and numbers. GameFAQs - I've been writing for this site for a good number of years now. Don't plan on quitting anytime soon. The FCSB - They didn't help too much but what can I say, where would I be without a few of them? Major props to these great board members who are also prized FAQ writers.
