Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo PlayStation/Saturn/PC FAQ by Walter F. Williams III 7/22/99 (wildwalt@mailcity.com) <<>> R - Red G - Green B - Blue Y - Yellow Ryu - RGBYRG RGBYRG RGBYRG RGBYRG |||||| VVVVVV Ryu has an easy attack to counter. Just set up your Crash Gems in the order shown above. You can eliminate a whole column this way. Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Hado-Ken 30+ Gems - Shinku-Hado-Ken Chun Li - YYRRGG YYRRGG RRGGBB RRGGBB |||||| VVVVVV Chun Li's Counter Gems form Super Gems when they transform. Just match up the colors and you'll drop about ten gems on her side. Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Lightning Kick 30+ Gems - Kiko-sho Ken - YYYYYY GGGGGG BBBBBB RRRRRR |||||| VVVVVV Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Shoryu-ken 30+ Gems - Shoryu-reppa Ken's Crash Gems are arranged in rows. Have a Red Gem sitting on the bottom when Ken attacks. Sakura - GBBBBY GRRRRY GBBBBY GRRRRY |||||| VVVVVV To counter Sakura's Counter Gem attack, place a Green Crash Gem on the left side, or have a Yellow Crash Gem on the right side. Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Hado-Ken 30+ Gems - Shinkuu-Hado-Ken Donovan - BBBGGG BBBGGG RYRYRY RYRYRY |||||| VVVVVV Donovan's attack pattern is strange, because there are two different parts. There's the red-and-yellow section on the bottom, and the blue-green block on top. You'll have a better chance trying to smash the blue or green Super Gems that form. Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Blade Attack 30+ Gems - Spirit Crusher Morrigan - YBGGBY YBGGBY BYRRYB BYRRYB |||||| VVVVVV Morrigan's is strange, too. Try going for the red block on the bottom or the green block on top for a big attack. Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Shadow Blade 30+ Gems - Super Shadow Blade Hsien-Ko- GGRRYY BGGRRY BBGGRR YBBGGR |||||| VVVVVV Hsien-Ko's Counter gems are interlinked diagonally. One Crash Gem can get rid of the entire color. Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Ground Knives 30+ Gems - Heavy Metal (?) Felicia - GBBRRY GBBRRY GRRBBY GRRBBY |||||| VVVVVV Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Cat Scratch 30+ Gems - Cat Scratch Fury For Felicia, have a Red or Blue Crash Gem or two handy. If she gets you with a really hard attack, green or yellow on either side works well, too. Akuma - RYBRGY YBGRYB BGRYBG GRYBGR |||||| VVVVVV Yeah. Right. Hit hard, hit fast, and hit often, or else you'll be buried in Counter Gems, because there's no way you can counter this attack. Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Shadow Fireball 30+ Gems - Shungokusutsu Devilot - YRGBYR BYRGBY GBYRGB RGBYRG |||||| VVVVVV Attacks: 12-29 Gems - Battle Axe 30+ Gems - Laser Blast Like Akuma's, only in reverse. Same rules apply. Dan - RRRRRR RRRRRR RRRRRR RRRRRR |||||| VVVVVV Dan is ridiculously easy to counter, so trying to beat the game with him will be a pain. Anybody who has a Red Crash gem ready when Dan makes a big move can blow this guy out of the water. <<>> Arcade - Face off against the eight original characters in one-round battles. After that is done, you fight Akuma. The object of the game is to fill your opponent's side with Gems by combining Normal and Crash Gems to create Counter Gems. Versus - Play against a friend. All of the available characters can be selected. Street Puzzle - Defeat the given characters to win prizes (see Goodies section). Original (PC version) - In this mode, you can set the time on the Counter gems, and the strength of the attack gems. <<>> - Controls Use the Left or Right buttons to move the Attack Gem. Hold Down to drop the Attack Gem quickly. The Left Turn and Right Turn buttons rotate the Attack Gem. (It rotates around the flashing gem). Start pauses the game. - Attack Gems There are three types of Attack Gems: Normal, Crash, and Super. The Normal gems are ordinary gems that come in red, green, blue, and yellow. The Crash Gems look like glowing orbs. Sit them next to a Normal gem of matching color to eliminate them. When you eliminate your gems, you send Counter Gems to your opponent's side. The Super Gem looks like a diamond. They appear after you've dropped 50 or so Attack Gems. When you drop them on a Gem, it eliminates all other Gems of that color. - Counter Gems Counter Gems have numbers on them that indicate how many turns left until they change to Normal Gems. Each time you drop an Attack Gem, the number on the Counter Gem decreases by one. When the number reaches zero, the Counter Gem becomes a Normal Gem, and you can eliminate it normally. Counter Gems can also be eliminated when a Normal or Crash Gem is cleared next to it, regardless of color. - Attacking Your Opponent By lining up Normal and Crash Gems, you can attack your opponent. You can even line up multiple gems of the same color next to each other for greater attacking power. You can also form Power Gems by lining up four or more Normal Gems in a square. This has more than twice the attack power than if you destroy them separately. You can make the Power Gem as big as you want, and when the right color Crash Gem hits - BOOM! Your opponent is buried in Counter Gems. - Chain Reactions Sometimes, you can line up your Gems in such a way that they cause a chain reaction. For instance, you can stack a green Power Gem on a yellow Power Gem, and drop a Yellow/Green Crash Gem on it to cause a chain reaction. Some of the more complicated maneuvers take time and planning, but more often than not, a chain reaction may be formed by accident. - Losing a Round You lose when your Gems get stacked all the way to the top of the playing field (you know how that works). <<>> Master Arcade Mode - In Master Arcade mode, the intelligence of all opponents is tuned up to maximum, and you can't reduce the damage done by a Counter Gem. You have to beat Ryu as himself to unlock this mode. Hidden Code for Akuma - Beat Akuma as Ryu to play as the boss, Akuma.
