INTRODUCTION/GETTING STARTED ==================================== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A1. My Introduction to Looney Tunes B-Ball ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is simply, a fantastic sports game. Looney Tunes B-Ball is one of those games that has stood the test of time for me. I still remember how happy I'd be to rent this game from the local video game store. It was time for Daffy Duck to do his Dikembe Mutombo impression! STAY OUT OF MY HOUSE! What's that? Yosemite Sam is dropping bombs from three-point land? You better guard them! I'm scoring fifty! Ah, absolutely fantastic. Looney Tunes B-Ball features eight characters, and allows you to play some 2v2 games against another player, or against a computer player. The rules of basketball apply, with the exception that there are no fouls. Baskets are two points, and shots taken behind that curved line are three points. Dunks and lay-ups are also two points. Oh, and to add to the insanity, take a cream pie to the face! Now THAT is an offensive play. It's NBA Jam, Looney Tune Style! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A2. The Booklet's Introduction ------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "That's All Folks!" But wait! We've just started! Apparently, you've just walked onto the LOONEY TUNES set where our favorite characters are wrapping up another day on the job. Being mega-stars of the screen can take its toll. But we know just the thing to ease the pressure - a little pick-up game of B-Ball! Let's go outside to the studio backlot and see which Looney Tunes stars want to play. It's bound to be hilarious! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A3. Opening Game Script ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scene opens on the Warner Bros. stage. (The "That's All Folks" logo pops up, and a director can be heard yelling "That's a wrap!") DAFFY DUCK: "Another day, another artistic triumph." BUGS BUNNY: "Not bad. Think you can keep up in a game o' hoops?" DAFFY DUCK: "Surely you jest! Lead the way, rabbit. I've got more dunks than a donut shop!" (Suddenly, the basketball which was beside the two stars morphs into a dog, and runs outside. Bugs and Daffy are both in shock! They proceed to run outside after the ball, and onto the court.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A4. Options ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After loading up the game, you will notice the options screen. Here is a quick explanation as to what everything is. START GAME - Want to play with default settings? Feel free! TYPE OF GAME - Press left or right on the control pad to change to which game you'd like to play. 1-Player vs. CPU - One player controls one team, and plays against the computer. 1-Player vs. 1-Player - Each player controls a team. 2-Player vs. CPU - Each player controls one character on the same team and plays against a computer team. *2-Player vs. 1-Player - Two players on the same team each control a character and play against one player who controls both characters on the opposing team. *2-Player vs. 2-Player - Each player controls one character. 1-Player Tournament - One player controls one team and competes in a tournament in which all other characters play. 2-Player Tournament - Two players on the same team each control a character and play against all other characters in a tournament. (Any game types with an '*' require more than two players, and require a multi-tap device.) WACKY METER - This sets the level of craziness on the court. If you select a '1', each game will be straight-up, no-nonsense. If you select '5', you will have many opportunities to pick up gems (SEE SECTION 'B3') which allow you to buy ACME plays. (SEE SECTIONS 'B4' and 'B5') They can be offensive or defensive. DIFFICULTY - Ranges from 1-10 (easy to difficult) and sets how well the CPU will play against you. The default difficulty level is 5. FOLLOW MODE - In 1-player games this determines who will control the ball on the player's team. If it is 'ON', the player will automatically control the character on their team that has the ball. If it is 'OFF', the player can only control one character and the computer will control the other. QUARTER LENGTH - This allows you to choose how long each quarter will be. You can choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 minutes. The default quarter length is 2 mins. CONTROLLER CONFIGURATION - There are several different controller configurations to choose from. Up or Down on the Control Pad selects the player you are setting the controls for. Left or Right on the Control Pad cycles through the different configurations for that player. CODE HUNT - Code Hunt is also in the controller configuration section. Press Select to get to the Code Hunt and test out potential game codes by pressing a sequence of buttons. If you press the sequence of a specific game code, text will appear, describing the name of the code, which player has found it and how much it costs to use it in the game. It does NOT activate the code. Codes must be activated _during_ game play. Some of these codes will not work if the Wacky Meter is set at 1, or if you don't have enough money. Write down your codes so you don't forget them! Once you have selected your options press Start to go back to the main option menu and select Start Game at the top of the screen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A5. Controls ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before you can play Looney Tunes B-Ball, I suppose you should know what the buttons do, eh? Please note these controls are based on the default configuration. Direction Pad - Moving your character around the court. A Button - Use Special ACME Play B Button - Shooting the ball when you are on offense. On defense, you Jump/Block/Rebound. Y Button - Passing the ball to a teammate, or attempting to steal the ball from an opponent. X Button - Menu (Cycle through available ACME plays) L and R Buttons - Turbo Boost (Make your characters faster) SELECT Button - Toggle between characters on team you are controlling. START Button - Pausing the game, Activate Instant Replay by pressing Left or Right, Activate Slow Motion Replay by pressing Up or Down Shoving Your Opponent - Since there are no fouls in this game, shoving is a huge part of your defense. Hold your turbo button down, and press the Y Button. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A6. Game Play Screen ---------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is everything you need to know on the screen in-game. GREEN SCOREBOARD - The first red number on the far left is which quarter you are in. 1 for first, 4 for fourth, and so on. The middle red numbers are how much time is left in the current quarter. The red double digit number on the right side is the shot clock. You have a certain amount of time to take a shot, before the other team gets to take the ball. The big white numbers are the score. First team is on the left, second team on the right. Along the bottom of the screen, you see four images. The ones on the left are team one, and the ones on the right are team two. When holding your turbo button, your image will change. The worse your character looks, the more tired they are. You cannot hold turbo forever! In between each character, there is a certain amount of money. The more gems you have, the more plays you can run. The current play is displayed directly above the gem count. You can switch this using the X Button. NOTE: You can have more than 99 cents, but it will not show up. Your counter never goes above 99 cents. =============================================================================== ========== B. MISCELLANEOUS =================================================== =============================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B1. Choosing A Character ------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You're almost ready for a hot game of basketball, but now you have to choose your characters. You have the choice of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam, Tasmanian Devil, Wile E. Coyote, and Elmer Fudd. The flashing star in the box shows which player is expected to choose a character. Use Up and Down on the Control Pad to flip through the characters and press any button other than Start to select the character. If you press the Start Button, the computer will pick a character at random for you. If you make a mistake, press the Select Button to unselect the character. If you are playing against the computer, you can select the characters the computer will control. You can not choose the same character more than once during a game. Each character has strengths and weaknesses. You can see what these are by looking at the bars under the character's name. The more the bar is filled in, the better the character is at this attribute. The Shooting Bar indicates how well the character can shoot from up close. The 3 Pointers Bar indicates how well the character can shoot from far away. The Defense Bar shows how well the character can steal the ball or block his opponent. The Speed Bar indicates how quickly the character moves and the Stamina Bar indicates how long the character can maintain Turbo Power. Once your team has been selected, press the Start Button to start the game or press the X Button to return to the Options screen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B2. Character Profiles -------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Looney Tunes B-Ball, there are eight characters to choose from. In this guide, I shall tell you how each is rated in the five categories, what their Special Defenses are, and who you should choose as a computer ally, if you wish to use that character. First, here are the characters based on tier. TOP TIER: Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam SECOND TIER: Wile E. Coyote, Elmer Fudd, Marvin the Martian BOTTOM TIER: Bugs Bunny, Sylvester EVEN LOWER: Tasmanian Devil *** BUGS BUNNY *** "Ain't I a stinker?" Shooting: Excellent (4) 3 Pointers: Average (2) Defense: Below Average (1) Speed: Above Average (3) Stamina: Average (2) Total: 12 Special Defense: Disguise Defense Bugs distracts his opponents into dropping the ball, by dressing up as an absolutely gorgeous female bunny. Before anyone can react, Bugs has the ball! Long Range: Field Goal Kick Bugs picks up the ball, and dropkicks it! If it goes in, the crowd goes wild! Best Partner: Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam Bugs is great at shooting inside the three, but he needs a lot of help. Daffy and Sam provide the defense you'll need to keep the opposing team from running up the score. Sam can also shoot the three, and give you a dual scoring unit. *** DAFFY DUCK *** "Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo!" Shooting: Above Average (3) 3 Pointers: Below Average (1) Defense: Excellent (4) Speed: Average (2) Stamina: Excellent (4) Total: 14 Special Defense: Jackhammer Defense Daffy takes out his trusty jackhammer, and starts drilling the ground! This forces everyone else on the court to take a fall! Long Range: Discus Shot Daffy spins around, and launches the ball into the air, as if he were throwing a discus. Best Partner: Yosemite Sam, Elmer Fudd, Marvin the Martian Daffy is a defensive specialist who can shoot from inside the three. Since he covers the defensive side so well, why not have a great shooter? Marvin has the speed and the 3-point range Daffy lacks, Elmer is a fantastic shooter from both areas, while Yosemite Sam does everything well. *** ELMER FUDD *** "Uhuhuhuhuhuhuh!" Shooting: Excellent (4) 3 Pointers: Above Average (3) Defense: Average (2) Speed: Below Average (1) Stamina: Above Average (3) Total: 13 Special Defense: Lightning Defense Elmer Fudd puts on his opera garb, and summons lightning from the sky! It zaps the ball handler, allowing Elmer to pick it up! Long Range: Bullet Shot Elmer pulls out his gun, and tosses the ball into the air. He fires a bullet at the ball, and watches the ball go to the rim! Best Partner: Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian Elmer does a lot of good things well. However, he plays average defense, and is very slow. Daffy provides the defensive presence, while Marvin will give you a great scoring punch. He's very quick to get back on defense as well. *** WILE E. COYOTE *** "..." *BOOM!* Shooting: Average (2) 3 Pointers: Below Average (1) Defense: Above Average (3) Speed: Above Average (3) Stamina: Excellent (4) Total: 13 Special Defense: Detonator Defense Wile E. Coyote presses a button, and suddenly the ball handler explodes! Long Range: Rocket Shot Wile E. ties the ball to a rocket, and lets it fly to the hoop! Best Partner: Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam Wile E. Coyote is very good when it comes to intangibles. Except for his wild dunks and layups, Wile E. cannot put the ball in the hoop. Elmer and Sam can. Simple as that. *** TASMANIAN DEVIL *** "(Random sound effects)" Shooting: Average (2) 3 Pointers: Below Average (1) Defense: Above Average (3) Speed: Above Average (3) Stamina: Average (2) Total: 11 Special Defense: Tornado Spin Defense Taz breaks into a tornado spin, knocking down everyone he touches! If you hit the opposing ball handler, they drop the ball! Long Range: Spit Shot Taz places the ball in his mouth, and spits it out toward the hoop! Best Partner: Yosemite Sam Taz cannot do many things well, but he can play defense, and he is relatively quick. Sam is a must-have as a partner, due to his scoring touch, and defensive presence. *** YOSEMITE SAM *** "(Gun going off.)" Shooting: Above Average (3) 3 Pointers: Excellent (4) Defense: Above Average (3) Speed: Below Average (1) Stamina: Above Average (3) Total: 14 Special Defense: Dance Defense Sam takes out his guns, and shoots at the opposing ball handler's feet to make them dance, and drop the ball! He must be very close to the opponent to make it work. Long Range: Bounce Shot Sam slams the ball off the ground with both hands, and watches it fly to the hoop. Best Partner: Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd Yosemite Sam can be teamed with anyone, and be dominant. Daffy and Sam are an unstoppable defensive punch that many teams will struggle with. Elmer and Sam create an almost unstoppable scoring punch. *** SYLVESTER *** "Suffering Succotash!" Shooting: Above Average (3) 3 Pointers: Below Average (1) Defense: Below Average (1) Speed: Above Average (3) Stamina: Excellent (4) Total: 12 Special Defense: Remote Control Defense Sylvester takes out a remote control, which actiates the dropping of a large weight! The weight falls on the player with the ball so Sylvester can steal it. Long Range: Bad Doggie! The ball morphs into a dog, and Sylvester slaps it, sending it at the hoop! Best Partner: Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote Sylvester can score near the hoop, and he can hold Turbo all day long. His speed is great as well. Thus, he is tough to stop. On the defensive end, he is very week. Both Daffy and Sam provide the defense, but Wile E. provides the speed as well. You could also make a case for Taz, but Wile E. also has the better stamina. *** MARVIN THE MARTIAN *** "Boom!" Shooting: Below Average (1) 3 Pointers: Excellent (4) Defense: Average (2) Speed: Excellent (4) Stamina: Average (2) Total: 13 Special Defense: Disintegrator Defense Marvin takes out his Disintegrator Ray ahead, aiming for his opponent! He can also hit your teammate, so be careful. Long Range: Magnet Shot Marvin ties the ball to a magnet, which heads toward the magnetic backboard! Best Partner: Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam Daffy plugs up all the holes that Marvin lacks. He plugs in almost perfectly. Elmer added a good scoring punch, although Yosemite Sam would be the better pick. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B3. Gems ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Looney Tunes B-Ball, Gems are the payment of choice. In order to purchase ACME plays, you need to collect these gems. The higher the Wacky Meter is set, the more gems will appear. There are three colours of gems. BLUE GEM - Worth one cent. RED GEM - Worth five cents. GREEN GEM - Worth twenty-five cents. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B4. MVP, Here I Come ---------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I didn't know what else to name this section, so I borrowed the term from the booklet. If your character is making a lot of baskets, they have a good shot to be the MVP of the game. If your character makes three shots in a row, they get a boost to all their attributes. Their face will appear in the centre of the court as well! This will last until you score a few more baskets, or until the computer breaks your streak. Remember, three shots in a row, without the opponent scoring, or your teammate scoring. Go to the hot hand! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B5. Offensive Plays ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you know the terms "Pick and Roll", "Screen Away", or "The Triangle Offense"? No? That's fine. They do not appear in this game! Each character has a variety of shots - there are standard jump shots, long shots, lay-ups, and slam dunks. Each character even has a unique way of performing these shots. But sometimes it takes a little more than your average playing to win a game especially when you are playing against Looney Tune characters. To give your character an edge, you can purchase special ACME plays to strengthen your game. Before you can purchase plays you have to collect gems worth different amounts, but you will find that these plays are unavailable if the Wacky Meter is set at 1. Each play has a different cost. To sort through these plays, press the X Button. The plays are listed above the character shots at the bottom of the screen. Only the plays you can afford will be listed. To select a play, press the A Button. Don't forgetm you need to be in possession of the ball to use these offensive plays. *** CREAM PIE - 10 cents *** The ball turns into a cream pie which you throw at your opponent. If you miss, the pie comes back to you. Press any button to duck out of the way. If you get hit, the opposing team gets the ball. If you hit your opponent, they are disabled for a few seconds. *** TIME BOMB - 15 cents *** The ball turns into a bomb and you've got to pass it right away. If your opponent gets the bomb when it explodes, your team gets possession of the ball. If you get stuck with the hot potato when it explodes, the ball goes to a tip-off. *** BACK DOOR - 40 cents *** Selecting the Back Door transports your teammate to a place near the basket. Pass it to your teammate to make the shot. *** VEGAS - 50 cents *** This play can be quite the gamble. You'll see your side of the scoreboard turn into a slot machine display that is rolling. If you score a basket, while Vegas is activated, your score is multiplied by whatever the pay-off on the machine is - you could gain points or lose points. If you miss the shot, the ball is stolen, make a dunk or a lay-up, Vegas is deactivated. It must be a jump shot. *** LONG RANGE - 10 cents *** You must be behind the halfcourt line, opposite your basket, to put this shot into play. Each character has a unique long range shot, the only catch is that they sometimes backfire or don't make it in. *** ECLIPSE - 25 cents *** Your most powerful ally is nature. If you decide to use an eclipse, the screen darkens and your opponents have a hard time seeing you as you drive to the hole. *** FORCEFIELD - 50 cents *** Using the forcefield will protect you from all special defenses, earthquakes and cream pies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B6. Defensive Plays ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They say it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game, and if the offense can play dirty, so can the defense. You will beed to collect gems to earn money to purchase these special ACME defensive plays. Once again, these plays are unavailable if the Wacky Meter is set at 1. To sort through the plays available, press the X Button. Only the plays you can afford are listed. Press the A Button to select a certain play. *** BOMB SQUAD - 20 cents *** When your opponents have thrown you a bomb, you can get rid of it by selecting the Bomb Squad. The bomb will be tossed up to explode in the air. *** TELEPORT - 25 cents *** This is similar to the Back Door in that the defensive team can teleport to the opponents' basket and prepare to block a shot. *** SPECIAL DEFENSE 25 cents *** Each character has a special defense technique to use against their opponents to distract them or force the into dropping the ball. Refer to section B2 for details about each character's Special Defense. Defense will be available when you are guarding a member of the opposing team. If the character you are controlling is not near the offense but your teammate is, using an ACME defensive play will activate for the character nearest an opponent. Watch out! These can also backfire on you! *** STEALING - No Cost *** This is a standard technique that all characters can attempt by pressing the Y Button. You should try to steal the ball when your opponent is standing still and dribbling. *** PUSHING - No Cost *** For the aggresive player, not afraid of fouls, pushing can be used by pressing the Y Button and a Turbo Button. (Highly recommended) *** BLOCKING - No Cost *** By jumping in front of your shooting opponent, you can block the ball. A successful block is indicated by the REJECTION stamp. If Goal Tending is called, the offense automatically gets the points and the ball is brought out of bounds. Avoid Goal Tending by swatting away shots before the ball starts to drop. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B7. Character Energy ---------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Holding the Turbo Power (L or R Button) causes the characters to become tired. You can tell when the character is tired by looking at the expression on their face at the bottom of the screen. When they look really beat it means your turbo power has run out. You can regenerate your turbo power by releasing the Turbo Button until the character looks normal again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B8. Tournament Mode ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you select to play in the Looney Tunes B-Ball Tournament, you will play against all the other Looney Tunes characters. You can choose 1-Player or 2-Player. With 2-Player, both players are on the same team. Before the game begins, a map will show you who your first opponents are. Pushing Select allows you to view the opposing teams. Each game gets tougher as you continue to win. Win the tournament and become the B-Ball champ! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B9. Stats Screen -------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At halftime and after the final buzzer, the stats screen will show you how each player is doing. The player with the most points is indicated by a star and the winning team is surrounded by a special box. Here are what the stats are: 2 Pts: How many shots you made, inside the three point line. 3 Pts: How many shots you made, outside the three point line. Points: The total amount of points your character scored. Dunks: How many dunks and layups your character made. Steals: How many times you stole the ball from your opponent. Blocks: How many times you blocked the ball when your opponent shot. Rebounds: How many times the ball bounced off the rim, and your character got it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B10. Codes and Secrets -------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Codes/Secrets can be found on this page: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/code/588447.html Here are the ones I think are most useful. *** INVISIBILITY - 20 cents *** X, X, X, Turbo *** EARTHQUAKE - 30 cents *** Up, Up, Up, Turbo *** "HERE, BOY!" (CALLS THE DOG BALL) - 10 cents *** Right, Down, Left, Turbo *** X-RAY SPECS - 5 cents *** Left, Left, X If you wish to morph into another character, try these! To Bugs: X, Turbo, X, Turbo To Daffy: Right, Right, Down, X To Elmer: Right, Right, Up, Up, Turbo To Marvin: Left, Left, Right, Right, X To Sam: up, Up, Down, Down, Turbo To Sylvester: Turbo, Turbo, Turbo, X To Taz: Left, Left, Left, Right, Turbo To Wile E.: X, Turbo, Turbo, X Extended Morphing: Up, Left, Up, Left, Up, Left, X ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- B11. Tips and Tricks ---------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are a few tips and tricks I have for you. *** CATCHING UP *** Most rookie players make the mistake of trying to get back into the game by launching three pointers. If you're down by 6, 7, or even 10, focus more on your defense. Make sure you make your baskets, and save the three point bombs for the fourth quarter. *** VEGAS *** Don't abuse this. If you become dependant on gambling, you're screwed. Once again, use it as a last resort. *** PLAYING TO YOUR STRENGTHS *** If you have a team of Daffy and Sam, don't have Daffy launching threes all day. Sam has a high 3-point rating for a reason. Have Daffy keep the ball out of your basket. *** TURBO *** Use it as much as you can. You can blow by your opponent, and get a big-time dunk. It's easy points, folks. *** SHOVE *** Shove. Lots. It's the easiest way to get the ball, and take your opponent out of the play. =============================================================================== ========== C. Then I can answer them here in future versions.. Any serious or comical question to be answered. Q: Who is the best character in the game? A: This depends on your style of play, although I have my theory. Daffy Duck and Yosemite Sam are the top two characters, while Taz is the worst. Q: Where is Tweety? Lola Bunny? Michael Jordan? A: Keep in mind this game was created long before Space Jam came out. Lola Bunny was not even a Warner Bros. character at this time, as far as I know. As for Tweety ... how would he carry the ball? They could only have eight characters, and I have to say, the eight they chose are fantastic as is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- D3.
