But there is an SNES one too! Most people who have played the Gameboy one, don't know about the SNES one and vice versa. I was browsing the list of wanted game FAQs on GameFaqs.com, and I noticed Spanky's Quest was one of them! I have been playing the game for years to when I saw that I knew I could put together a little something. I also have a small section where you can read about the comparisons between the English version and Japanese version of Spanky's Quest! Spanky's Quest is a puzzler type game, but it still has that action element along with easy, but fun bosses, weird enemies and plenty of secrets. Why the game is focused on fruits and vegetables being bad (I bet parents love THAT ^_^) I don't know. It has about 50 stages (not including bosses!) to beat. Not to mention that funky retro music is cool. Spanky's Quest is definitely one of my favorite games! I remember when I got into emulation and ROMs (and gaming sites) no one had anything about the lovable Monkey. I've enclosed some tips, game genie codes, enemy guides, and of course the extensive level guide for everyone. Just do me a fav and tell me how you like the game! - KindarSpirit@aol.com -------- 2. Story -------- I'm really not sure how the story goes, but if you START the game, it will play a small cinema of Spanky cheerfully strolling through the forest, when all of a sudden these blocks start falling. It goes dark and Spanky freaks out, especially when the shadow of a witch on a broom stick flies by followed by a raven. I think the story is somewhat a long the lines of, Spanky strolled a little too deep into the heart of the forest, when he came upon on evil witch's castle filled with evil fruit and vegetables. So I think all he can really do to escape, is make his way through the levels to escape. In the Japanese version, there is a little more plot, which they left out of the english version. It was set up like Super Mario World's map system, in which after completing a level (or a whole area in SQ) you moved on. If I ever get the manual to the game, I will definitely try and get a little more info. If anyone else has it, please enlighten us! ^_^ ------------------ 3. Controller Info ------------------ Spanky's Quest is up to you how you want the controls to work. Under options, you can change any buttons you want to what you want. So really I can't give you too much on that, but tell you what you can do. Spanky can jump, not very high but he can jump. Press UP to enter a door Spanky can launch his bubble attacks, and when that same button is pressed he can send of an array of sports items. ---------------------------- 4. Bubbles (Spanky's Weapon) ---------------------------- Spanky's only defense, without the aide of objects, is his bubbles. Just launch a bubble, and you can then hit it again with your head to create a different bubble, or press the same button you launched it with to make it pop. Blue Bubble - Baseball Green Bubble - Soccer Ball Yellow Bubble - Volley Ball Red Bubble - Basket Ball Baseball - Very hard to hit enemies with, only a single ball. Soccer Ball - A line of soccer balls will appear, moderately good. Volley Ball - One volley ball will come, with about four around it creating a giant circle of destruction! Basket Ball - This will cause a big row of basketballs to come crashing down on enemies. -------------------------------- 5. Items, Objects and Hats Guide -------------------------------- Bonus Coin - This will give you some extra points. Just one is 100, but if you can pick up more after picking up just one, the next one becomes 200, 500, 1000 etc. 1-UP - Get these little gold coins with Spanky's face on them to give this monkey an extra chance. You'll need 'em! Keys - Everytime you see one, you'll pick up one key. Remember though, in most levels Spanky needs more than just one key. Star Spring - Jump on these to trampoline! Door - This is where Spanky can advance to the next level. They have a certain number of keyholes on them, so look for that number of keys in the level. Gold Door - Woohoo! You've found a bonus round door. These are all over the game and just as fun. Top Hat - This is a magic hat, in which Spanky can launch a bubble, and after hitting it, instantly turn it into a basketball bubble! Good only for level, or until you get hit. Athena Hat - It's a little gold hat, with wings... like the ones on the Greek godess' shoes. This will stop Spanky from slipping on ice and other slippery platforms. Spiked Hat - When Spanky pops on this attire, it's like temporary armor. If Spanky collides with an enemy, he looses the hat but he also knocks out the enemy without dying. You will not be safe from Fiery Birds, Boulders or Rockmen while wearing this though. Good only for level, or until you get hit. Straw Hat - This is great for those high up levels. When wearing this hat, Spanky can glide instead of falling. Good only for level, or until you get hit. Baseball Cap - This is helpful, as when you launch a bubble, the cap kind of acts like a magnet. It won't let those bubbles stray to far and you won't loose them. Switch - The switch can be fun and useful, but also dangerous and annoying. If an enemy gets in the control of it, they can control Rocks to spit fire (which is red), boulders to drop, and Fiery Birds to chase after Spanky (watch out for those!). If Spanky gets in the control switch, he is not invincible from enemies. He can do all of the above... except it will hurt the enemies. His "Fiery Birds" will also be blue. Boulders - This object is controlled by a switch. Fiery Bird - Object controlled by a switch. You really will learn to hate them. Rockman - A boulder type face that spits fire. Controlled by a switch. Cannons - Jump in these to rocket high up, and easily knock out enemies just like a real cannon. Conveyor Belts - They go in only one direcion, and can really slow you down. Try jumping to get over them faster. Clouds - These puffy platforms take Spanky to heights he can't reach on his own. -------------- 6. Enemy Guide -------------- I do not know any of the enemies real names... so I made up my own ;) When there are items in the level, like bonus coins, 1-ups and different hats, if enemies get to them first they will pick them up and you will have to use your bubble style stuff to destroy and get back what was rightfully yours. All enemies can do this, except bosses, and that dumb bird. Tip for all enemies ___________________ Try not to attack any enemy on the same level. Try and be a safe distance away (platform above or below) before launching any attacks. Canned Enemies - If there are cans on the level, that means after you defeat some of the enemies, they will grow back out of those cans. This can happen only once though, soon as they grow out the cans disappear. Leaf Man - These lettuce looking guys will walk back and forth and eventually start jumping up to the next platform. Orange Julius - These oranges have no real agenda. They just walk back and forth. They really aren't after you, but if you do get in their way they'll kick you to monkey oblivion. Lemon Heads - These guys make funny faces then move in a horizontal direction in the air. They really aren't too hard, except in the higher levels where you'll have to ride clouds and they'll somehow always get in the way. Needle Beaks - These are weird green birds, that have a body like an accordian. They kinda stretch along, then when they see you they will go full speed ahead. (Ow) Try and attack them from below or above, as they also can't climb platform to platform. Twirling Apples - These dancing ladies don't seem to really care about anything except for dancing. However, they can be dangerous in small areas, and twirl aroud pretty fast. Just make sure you attack them from below or above, as they cannot climb platforms. Lettuce Head - As long as you don't get in these guys way, they are harmless. They will be angry looking lettuce (or cabbage) heads and then expose themselves for a few seconds before rampaging again. Just watch out, as they do fly all over the place. Styling Berry - These little strawberries are so vain, they comb their hair on duty. But that doesn't make them all the less harmful... they are probably the toughest. They will go in any direction they please... and they don't have to jump to get to a platform - they float. --------------- 7. Bonus Levels --------------- In the level guide, you'll notice there are *bonus stages*. These are little extras in the game where Spanky can warp to a screen where there is a bubble.. a very big bubble! If Spanky can bounce this bubble enough times, without loosing it, four bonus coins and a 1-UP will be his for the taking! For each Area, the bonus levels are the same, but with different conditions. There will be added obstacles like conveyor belts, ice and other fun stuff. In the later levels, I'm pretty sure I've missed a ton of doors... so if you see some I have missed please let me know! ---------------------------- 8. Level Guide (Walkthrough) ---------------------------- *Tips and Facts* ________________ - Don't take too long to complete a level, that nasty old raven will come and try and take a life if you do. I think it comes roughly every 2 minutes. - Sometimes there will be more keys then you need, but try and grab them all anyway. - Looking for a bonus door? To find them, launch a bubble but don't pop it. This will tear down bricks. - There are 10 levels every area. So when you get to #-10, you'll know it's the last level before a boss. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ____________________ AREA 1 - THE GARDENS ____________________ 1-1 --- This level has multi platforms with several Leafy Men. Try and get on the top platform, while avoiding them. Let a shower of basketballs destroy them all and grab the keys. Watch out for the left side of the level, where the Leaf Men will gather to try and reach you. 1-2 --- There are several Orange Julius, and 3 of them with keys. Like the first level, stay on the top and let those basketballs fly! *BONUS STAGE* In the right bottom corner of the level, there is a bonus door. 1-3 --- This seems like a tricky level, but it's not. You get the key you need right away... but you can't get in the door without having to go through all those Orange Julius! Well, just launch a bubble (but don't pop it) onto the middle platform where the Oranges are. It's that small tan one. Woo hoo! It the bubble broke it and you also get a Bonus Coin. Still look out for Oranges though. 1-4 --- First thing, run on a Star Spring to get on the platform with the on Orange. He'll be easy to jump over. If you don't get there in a time, a big flock of Oranges come parading your way. Just get on that platform, destroy the one Orange and then send a shower of basketballs down on the rest. 1-5 --- This is really sort of a fun level. Just wait until the Lemon Heds move towards the walls, then jump up grabbing the keys to the top. Now, get a bubble ready for a basketball shower... and when they are all in the middle (directly below you) let it pop! Fall with basketballs and if you hit them all, you get a whopping 10,000 points. 1-6 --- You start in the middle of some Lemon Heads. Just destroy the first few to the right and drop down. You'll find a 1-UP! Now, climb the plaforms and grab the key and your first hat, the Magic Hat. Finish up those sour lemons to rack up some points. 1-7 --- In this level, just go to the right and drop down. You'll see another new enemy, the Twirling Apples. Kill them from below, and move out of the way when the cans below pop out more new Apples. Try not to hit that star spring! When they are all gone, use a bubble to hit the star spring, a line bonus coins leading to a 1-UP will pop out! 1-8 --- This level introduces the needle beaks, annoying but pretty easy when you get used to them. Just stay where you are and hit what you can, then jump up on the now deserted platforms. 1-9 --- The level of the killer lettuce ^_^. Just get on the very top platform (no they can't hurt you) and then drop down a shower of basketballs. *BONUS STAGE* In the right hand bottom corner, launch a bubble and go! 1-10 ---- Now introducting those Styling Berries. Always stay above them so you can keep an eye on them. Just stay where you are and shower down whatever you can on them. BOSS 1 ------ Apple Jack (Look in the boss section for help ^_^) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- _________________ AREA 2 - THE CITY _________________ 2-1 --- Here you'll find Oranges and Leafy Men, and the introduction to the conveyor belts. Just do as you normally do to knock them all out, and then watch out for those cans! To find the Spikey Hat, on the left hand side of the level, you'll see blocks and more blocks. Just knock out the ones closest to the top to find it. 2-2 --- Just hop up on a Star Spring, to be taken to that platform. Just shower down balls on those Oranges, and grab the required keys. 2-3 --- Grab most of the keys before the enemies start to pick them up. First, get that bubble ready for the Leaf Men. There is also a Spikey Hat. Watch out for those boulders if they aren't already slamming down. Climb on the cloud platform and make your up. Jump over to the left so you don't fall, but rest on the divider. Here (it takes practice) you can launch your bubbles when the enemies come and be out of harms way. You also get to play with that switch.. but too bad there isn't any enemies to squash. 2-4 --- At the very start, knock out the left blocks for some Bonus Coins. The trick to this level, is not to kill the enemies! Just wait until the lemon heads are out of the way, and make your way up the level grabbing the keys. If you kill one, out pops more from those cans! Which will turn the level into a mess. Then make your way safely back down. *BONUS STAGE* At the left at the start of the level, just knock out those blocks! 2-5 --- First thing, defeat what baddies you can on the platform. Also grab the straw hat if you like. Then jump in the cannon and tear through those oranges! At the top, you'll find a Spikey Hat, and keys... and more of those darn cans. Grab what keys you can without being ambushed, and then get on the conveyor belt's top platform and (the straw hat is great for this) take a running jump to the left and just fall down. You'll be at the part of level you saw from the start, but couldn't get to. Knock out those oranges, grab the keys and go! 2-6 --- Watch out for the Rockmen and Leaf Men, and grab what you can! Try and get to the Leafmen controlling the switch (jump on the Rockmen's head when he's not firing to launch a bubble) and jump in! Watch those veggies fry! There's a straw hat on this level, but there really is no reason to grab it, except for Spanky to look cute. ^_^ 2-7 --- First things first, kill those Lemon Heads! Fast as you can, because Leaf Men will be falling down shortly. Get over the right of the screen while doing all this, so you can hop on the cloud to safety. Kill the rest of the bad guys at the top (if they have "hatched) and exit! If the Rockmen are being controlled, be extra careful and go right for the fruit operating the switch. 2-8 --- First, start a bubble going, to take care of everything on the bottom platform where you are. Then, just work on killing everything in the middle, then top via Star Springs. Voila! 2-9 --- This level can be a *real* headache, so advance slowly. Careful not to step on those Star Springs until you've killed the Orange on the next platform. You can grab the straw hat here (which will help a little). Now, when you get to the very top, drop down and grab that key and get on the cloud. From there, you'll see another cloud. Jump on this one to get to the top and get the Top Hat, which is a must! Then drop down to get that key. Fire up a bunch of basketballs and get all those baddies below! *BONUS STAGE* From the start, just throw a bubble to your right! 2-10 ---- First, grab the Top Hat and get a bubble ready for those Twirling Apples and Leaf Men. Stay out of the cannon's path! They will always end up in that cannon. At the top you'll find keys, a spike hat, and Athena Hat. The Magic Hat is the best for attacks, but if you are having trouble grab the spike hat. BOSS 2 ------ Pineapple Punch (Look in the boss section for help ^_^) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- _____________________ 3. Area 3 - The Beach _____________________ 3-1 --- First, get in on the plaform in the middle and send off yet more basketballs to get rid of those Orange Julius'. Now, make your way to the top via the clouds. See those Leafy's at the top? They can't even touch you! Just send a volley ball up there and it will easily wipe them all out and give you all the keys! 3-2 --- This can be a hard level, but just stay out of the Fiery Bird's way and it should be fine. Just make your way to the left, all the way. Here the bird won't reach you all the way. Send off some balls for those Lettuce Heads and grab the items. On the pyramid of blocks get a bubble ready for more Lettuce Heads and run by them once they are destroyed! That beak sticking out the egg, is what is sending off those fiery birds. Now knock out that Orange Julius at the control switch to have control of the Fiery Bird! But, there is anything left to destroy hehe. So exit with all those keys. *BONUS STAGE* At the very start, lay a bubble right on those blocks above the exit door. 3-3 --- Just stay where you are and send off basketball bubbles for all those Leaf Men. Pretty easy huh? 3-4 --- This level requires a little reaction time, but not much. Just stay on that cloud, and get a bubble ready. When you find those lemon heads, let them have it. Repeat this until you'll sure they are all dead. (As you can tell, the level isn't a scroller ^_^). Now, with those keys you got, fall to the right until you land on the platform with the door. You have to be patient and wait for the Leaf Men with the final keys to come close... but you can't get on their side! Solution: have a bubble ready for them! 3-5 --- Just let those Styling Berries fall, they won't hit you. Just stay where you are and launch basketballs. Repeat a few times and you've pretty much just blasted the whole level. Grab the required keys and leave. 3-6 --- A little challenge, but not too bad. First, immediately get a bubble ready for those Twirling Apples, and pop it! Now, watch out for the Leaf Guy hatching above you and bubble him too. Now launch yet more at those bodacious Apples. Here's the part a few people miss all the time. Jump on that tiny platform in the middle, inbetween the small key platform and the big platform. Naturally you'd jump for the one on the right, but it's an illusion. The one with the key is actually closer, so jump there. Now jump over the blocks and eventually make your way to the Star Spring which will shoot you up to the conveyor belt. Knock out the last enemy, an Orange Julius. 3-7 --- First a key will drop, what a nice freebie ^_^. Just launch a basketball for those baddies below and that's it. There all your keys. Just make your way to the top with a cannon. 3-8 --- Another one of these dropping levels. Stay on the clouds and kill all those Lemon Heads. After, grab the keys and exit. 3-9 --- First, to save yourself a *big* hassle, immediately launch a bubble and pop it at Orange to stop him from operating that switch. Grab the Athena Hat (again, I don't know why) and get a bubble ready. Knock out those Needle Beaks and repeat all the way to the top. *BONUS STAGE* After dropping down from the start, launch a bubble 3-10 ---- The hardest level yet. First *try* and knock out those Twirling Apples, and make your way to the top to kick out out that Orange Julius operating the switch. Use the switch to knock out any remaining baddies. Jump platform to platform just in case, and you have probably missed a few keys. BOSS 3 ------ Whacky Watermelon (Look in the boss section for help ^_^) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ___________________ Area 4 - Underwater ___________________ 4-1 --- First, grab that straw hat and make your way up to the blue platform. Launch a bubble as a Needle Beak will be coming your way. Knock him out then go up on the star spring to grab some keys. Get more bubbles ready to knock out those Styling Berries. Near the door, to get the last key here's a trick. If you haven't already learned how to do this - launch a bubble so it hits that key and pop it. The key will come right up to you and you can exit the level. 4-2 --- Get a bubble ready for those Leafy Men and destroy! Watch out for those darn rockmen. Knock everything out and grab the keys. 4-3 --- This is a fun level, except you have to act quick. Grab the key and the bonus coins, and adorn Spanky with the top hat. Jump up on the platform with the exit door, and get those bubbles ready! Leaf Men (tons of them) will cannonball your way, over and over and over. But since you have the top hate, you can easily knock them off the screen and grab the ones with keys. 4-4 --- First grab that key and run back to the left, (watch out for the Fiery Bird!). As long as you stay to the left as far as you can, you should be fine from the bird. Fire some balls at Leaf Men and knock out the Orange Julius at the control switch. Get another bubble ready, as a relief will be in to take over that switch. Make sure when your done, to drop a bubble down on the key, as it's the only way you can get it. 4-5 --- First things first, knock out as many Styling Berries as possible! Grab the top hat to make your job easier. Watch out for those boulders, your fine just as long as you don't touch the rope they are connected to. Make your way through, then cause they made your life so hard, bust a bubble on those Orange Julius'! 4-6 --- Launch a bubble to take care of the Lettuce Head you see right away. Then, carefully make your way up those springs, grabbing what you can without having to launch a bubble on it if you miss it. This leve is pretty easy, and you get a spike hat for pretty much no challenge. 4-7 --- Grab the key first. Now, you have two choices: 1. You can ride the cloud and dodge the Rockman's fire, or take your chances with the conveyor belt. Knock out those Styling Berries and make your way out. 4-8 --- Launch that bubble to knock out Orange Julius and some Lettuce Heads. Make your way through the level carefully, as to avoid those darn baddies. Knock out that Leafy Man at the switch and your home free. *BONUS STAGE* Stand on the very right of the level, and the highest platform you can reach, then launch a bubble at those blocks... except I can't figure how to get to the door!! 4-9 --- Grab the baseball cap, and make your way up those platforms. Destroy those awful Styling Berries and exit asap! 4-10 ---- Launch a bubble as soon as you can, to knock out the Leafy Men playing in the cannons. Make your way to the very right to grab a 1-UP. *BONUS STAGE* Make your way near the 1-UP at the very right up the level and... you guessed it. Those two long blocks hide a bonus door! BOSS 4 ------ Pretty Peach (Look in the boss section for help ^_^) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- __________________ AREA 5 - THE RUINS __________________ 5-1 --- What a way to start a level! You have two Twirling Apples and a Lemon Head on your tail! You *have* to act fast and launch a soccer ball at Lemon Head and the right Twirling Apple and gently use the spring to make your way up to the cloud without hitting yet another Lemon Head! From here launch and get bubbles ready! Make your way to the top, and hit those Needle Beaks. Climb the platform once they are all gone, and work on yet more Needle Beaks above. One more Leafy Guy and your part of the way to your freedom. 5-2 --- This is easy, just stay where you are! Launch a bubble, and kill those Leafy Men as they shoot out of cannons. When no more shoot up, drop down and exit! 5-3 --- First, get rid of that Lettuce Head and make your way to the left. You can get the great Athena Hat, and knock out the baddies with ease. 5-4 --- Wow, talk about a lot of clouds. Just stay on them and launch your bubbles from there. Of course there are Twirling Apples, but just prepare for them. Grab all their keys and make tracks. 5-5 --- Yikes! Nothing by conveyor belts and star springs! Just make your way to the left with a bubble, and knock out those Styling Berries. 5-6 --- You start on a conveyor belt, so make sure your paying attention. Jump over to the cloud, or yellow platform. From there, launch a bubble for those baddies below, and make your way up. Avoid the Lemon Heads and Leafy Men. 5-7 --- This is pretty straight forward. Just knock out everything and grab the keys. You'll find a variety of Leafy Men and Lemon Heads. (Aren't you glad those Fiery Birds don't appear anymore?!) 5-8 --- You start falling, so lean to the left to land on the platform. Shower your wrath on the Orange Julius' and grab the keys. Watch out for the Leafy Men, especially when they shoot in cannons. Having trouble finding the door? It's to the right. 5-9 --- Fall down, and make your way to the double cloud. Get a bubble ready, cause those Leafy Men are everywhere! Theres a bunch of keys in this level, probably a lot more than you need, so you can just leave when you have enough. Use the cannons to get to the top and confront more Julius'. Watch out for those Rockmen, and once again, knock out that trigger happy Orange at the switch. Near one of the Rockmen, knock out those blocks to grab a canned enemy... but wait hit it again and get the top hat. A can for a hat... pretty fair trade. 5-10 ---- Yikes, attack of the Twirling Apples! They are everywhere, and the whole level is giant with little platforms. Expect this to be challenging... as it is the last real stage in the game. Just knock out what you can, and make your way to the right of the level for the door. BOSS 5 ------ Gilbert Grape (Look in the boss section for help ^_^) ___________________________ AREA 6 - THE FINAL SHOWDOWN ___________________________ No levels here, just boss after boss! Yep, all those bosses you just beat, once after the other... then the final one. Refer to the Boss Section for help ^_^ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- 9. Boss Guide ------------- At times, the bosses are easy, to pretty hard. If you have master using the bubble, they should be pretty easy. Challenge rating it from 1-10. ___________________ BOSS 1 - APPLE JACK Challenge: * ___________________ Apple Jack is very predicitable. He'll just bounce off the walls, very very slowly. Have a bubble ready as he gets to the ceiling, and when he comes crashing down, bust that bubble and move of the way to start on your next one. Repeat, and eventually he'll become nothing but a core. ________________________ BOSS 2 - PINEAPPLE PUNCH Challenge: * ________________________ This guy should really get a big zero in challenge! He's a sinch! Just launch a bubble, when he comes charging, let him charge! He won't even run into you... he'll jump over you! __________________________ BOSS 3 - WHACKY WATERMELON Challenge: **** __________________________ This big Watermelon is pretty easy despite his size. He'll just float around the level (a great time to launch basketballs) and then settle down (another time to launch) and the spit out seeds. Just jump over them or move out of the way and prepare you next bubble. _____________________ BOSS 4 - PRETTY PEACH Challenge: ******* _____________________ This Peach may be cute, but she's definetely a good battle. She'll float around sending off tiny minions, and then try and crash down on you. When she first drops those little tiny peaches, just be getting a bubble ready and jump over them to bust it on her, or when she crashes down. __________________________ BOSS 5 - GILBERT GRAPE Challenge: ******** __________________________ This guy is really annoying. He'll twirl around the screen, sometimes hitting you. Try and hit him at these times. He'll then drop down grapes which will roll towards you. Back away so they become easier to jump over. If you feel brave, you can sneak a bubble while he's dropping them, but it's better not to. The fight may take longer, but it's the safest bet. ________________________________ BOSS 6 - THE WITCH AND THE RAVEN Challenge: ********** ________________________________ Definitely the hardest battle of the game. She has several phases. Phase 1 ------- She'll ride on her broom stick back and forth, shooting stars out of the tail. You can touch her, just not the stars. Just a bubble ready (the volleyball is great!) and hit her, the stars will stop and you can run to the other side and pop her again when she comes around. Repeat. Phase 2 ------- Well, now she's nothing but a weak little witch, smaller than Spanky! For some weird reason, the best thing to hit her with is baseballs! This is pretty hard, as obviously it takes major timing and skill to hit anything with a baseball. Phase 3 ------- The weak woman, turns into that Raven! Yep, it's been her this whole time. This is the hardest part of the battle!! The Raven will fly around pretty fast, then shoot out spikes. When this happens, you can't get close to the Raven, as she's blowing a pretty strong wind. If you manage to get behind the Raven (watch out for those spikes!) Knock her a couple times! Your best bet is to wait until she's done with the spikes and have a bubble ready to pop her when she flies by. After you hit the Raven enough, she'll go back into Phase 2, then Phase 3, and repeat a few more times. --------------- 10. Game Ending --------------- For such a long game, the ending is really disapointing. It shows the credits, the boss pics... and then the screen "Thank You For Playing! The End". Then you go back to the Menu. What a bummer! Read below in the Spanky in Japan to find out the ending to the Japanese version! ------------------- 11. Spanky in Japan ------------------- While I can't disclose how to get it here ^_^... you can get a hold of Spanky's Quest the Japanese ROM. Which is what I did, so I can tell you the differences. - In the first Area, the garden, there is writing on all of the walls of the levels in Japanese. What do they exactly say? I don't know. I'm guessing probably game help, tips, controls etc. - There are some added tracks not in the U.S version.! There are some songs that have been switched around on the Sound Test too. - Instead of just starting the game, and going straight to an Area, it shows Spanky on a World Map! It shows all the 5 areas leading to the Castle. Everytime Spanky beats an area, that part would turn black. Why Nintendo left this out, makes no sense. It made the game a lil better. - The ending is different! It shows Spanky falling from the top of the castle after beating the Witch. It's pretty cool, and a long drop. It then shows the credits, bosses and end screen. Why Nintendo changed it so much, we'll never know. As the game is (as I write this) 9 years old. I'm sure they really aren't concerned. Was Spanky bigger in Japan then it was here? Probably, but you never know. ---------------------- 12. Credits and Thanks ---------------------- Well, here you have it, the end! I couldn't have done this without the game makers, Nintendo and generous people to host my FAQ. But thanks to you, for reading... as you are the whole purpose I wrote it! ^_^ Special thanks to Dave Stockton! To contact me, e-mail me at KindarSpirit@aol.com You could also (shameful advertising) visit my Kirby site if you are into cute pink puffs. ^_^ http://www.classicgaming.com/kirby Any questions, comments, complaints, extra game help (If I can give it), and additions to this FAQ, please fire them away. Thanks so much!! ----------------------------------------- EOF --------------------------------------
