German Hostages Freed in Yemen

Talks led by Yemen's defense minister had been under way to secure the
release of former German government minister Juergen Chrobog, his wife
and three children. The German family was seized by tribesmen
Wednesday while touring the mountains of eastern Yemen.

The tribesmen were demanding the government release several members of
their tribe detained on criminal charges.

Yemeni tribes have been known to use kidnappings to try to force
concessions from the government. The hostages are usually released
