Suicide bomber exploded his vehicle near Iraqi army checkpoint





Blast scene with police and fire fightersIraqi authorities say a
suicide car bomb has exploded in Baghdad killing at least two Iraqi
soldiers and wounding several others.

Security officials say the blast occurred early Saturday when a
suicide bomber driving at high speed exploded his vehicle near an
Iraqi army checkpoint in the Karada district of the capital.

The blast followed a suicide bombing Friday at a bus station that
killed at least five people and wounded about a dozen others.

Separately, the U.S. military said Saturday an American soldier was
killed by a roadside bomb southeast of Baghdad.

The attacks come as Iraqis prepare to vote next month in a referendum
on a proposed constitution.
