In men's football gold medal match, Argentina defeats Nigeria, 1-0, to
repeat as Olympic champion 
Saturday is the penultimate day of the Beijing Olympics with 32 gold
medals being awarded - and every event a medal event. Argentinian

2008In the men's football (soccer) gold medal match, Argentina defeated
Nigeria, 1-0, to repeat as Olympic champion. Angel di Maria scored the
only goal of the game in the 58th minute to give Argentina the win.
Germany's Sabine Spitz won the gold in the women's cross-country
mountain biking event. In the men's event, Frenchman Julien Absalon
defended his Olympic crown when he took the gold medal. Australia's Ken
Wallace won the gold in the men's 500-meter kayak race. Russia's Maxim
Opalev won the men's singles canoe gold medal. In the women's singles
500-meter kayak race, Inna Osypenko-Radomska of Ukraine won by
four-1,000ths of one second. Spain took the men's doubles 500-meter
kayak gold medal and China won gold in the men's 500-meter canoe doubles
race. The women's 500-meter double kayak gold went to Hungary. Russia
won the team event in synchronized swimming for the third consecutive
Olympics. Norway won the gold medal in the women's team handball with a
34-27 win over Russia. Later, athletics will hand out the most medals of
the day with seven titles at stake, including the women's high jump,
men's javelin, men's 800-meters, and women's 1500-meters race. Boxing
awards five titles Saturday. The U.S. women's volleyball team plays
Brazil for the gold medal. Medals will also be awarded in men's platform
diving, field hockey, taekwondo, and baseball. Gold medals will also be
awarded in rhythmic gymnastics and women's basketball, where the United
States takes on Australia. The United States leads the medal standings
in total medals with 103 medals but host country China leads in gold
medals.
