Morgan Tsvangirai, 22 Jun 2008Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan
Tsvangirai has asked regional leaders to form a transitional team to
lead the nation out of its political crisis.Speaking Wednesday in
Harare, Tsvangirai called on the African Union and the Southern African
Development Community, backed by the United Nations, to oversee a
transition. He outlined a four-point plan that includes the release of
all political prisoners and the swearing-in of lawmakers elected in the
March 29 vote.The Movement for Democratic Change leader also asked for
end to violence, including the disbanding of war veteran militias and
unofficial roadblocks, and the resumption of humanitarian
assistance.Southern African leaders are holding an emergency meeting in
Swaziland's capital Mbabane Wednesday to discuss Zimbabwe's violent
political crisis.Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has refused to give
in to international pressure to postpone Friday's presidential runoff
election after Tsvangira!
