Hong Kong Reporter Detained Over Question to President by VOA News A Hong Kong reporter was briefly detained by police and a scuffle ensued after the reporter questioned Chinese President Hu Jintao about the 1989 pro-democracy Tiananmen Square demonstrations. During a visit to a construction site, a reporter from Hong Kong's Apple Daily newspaper shouted a question to the visiting President Hu about the Tiananmen incident. The president either did not hear the question or ignored it. But reporter Rex Hon said police detained him shortly afterward, telling him he had broken the rules. Angry reporters at the scene later surrounded police officials and demanded to know why the reporter was detained. Police ignored the questions and a brief scuffle broke out. Hu is in Hong Kong to observe the 15th anniversary of the end of British rule over the semi- autonomous island. The Associate Press reports that many in Hong Kong have long called for Beijing to overturn its condemnation of the Tiananmen Square pro-democracy demonstrations in June 1989, that the military went on to crush, killing hundreds, possibly more. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/article/1352249.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/article/1352249.html
