Weather Situation A trough moving northwards across southern districts will extend across the Barkly and northeast Simpson Districts during Monday and draw in tropical moisture from the north. The trough will deepen into a monsoon trough over the Gregory, Carpentaria and northern Barkly Districts from about Wednesday and bring the first active burst of the monsoon to northern NT this wet season. The monsoon trough is likely to persist south of the Top End throughout the week. A ridge will also direct drier southeasterly winds across southern NT from Monday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday 21 December A medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout apart from a slight chance in the southwest. Possible heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in central districts and the northeast Simpson. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds south of Ali Curung. Light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds elsewhere. Forecast for Monday 22 December A medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms north of Ti Tree and in the eastern Simpson District, with a slight chance in the southern Tanami District. Possible intense rainfall with thunderstorms in the northern Barkly District. Possible heavy rainfall with thunderstorms elsewhere in the Barkly, Carpentaria, Gregory, northeast Tanami and Simpson, and southern Daly and Arnhem Districts. Moderate to fresh and gusty southeasterly winds in the Lasseter and southern Simpson Districts. Light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds elsewhere, tending northwest to northeasterly north of Renner Springs.
