Weather Situation A high northwest of New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east coast. A tropical low will linger inland near the southwestern Gulf of Carpentaria for the next few days, enhancing rainfall across far northwestern Queensland and assisting the monsoon trough to form near the base of the Top End towards the middle of this week. Another trough moving into western Queensland will push slowly move east during the early days of next week, drawing deep tropical moisture southward and enhancing shower and storm activity cross most of the state. The trough will reach southeastern Queensland on Tuesday and linger until Christmas Day, before shifting northward later in the week. Forecast for the rest of Sunday 21 December Partly cloudy.
