Weather Situation A broad trough of low pressure lingers over the east and northern parts of the State. A low pressure system lies south of the bight and moves east to combine with the trough early Sunday. The combined low pressure system and trough then moves east to clear SA by late Sunday. A high pressure ridge then extends over the west and south of the State behind the low pressure system during Sunday. The high pressure ridge extends across the entire State by late Sunday and persists from Monday to Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Sunday 21 December Showers and possible thunderstorms about northern, central and eastern parts, contracting to the North East Pastoral district by afternoon and the far northeast by evening. Showers to follow about the agricultural area, contracting to the southeast by the middle of the day and to southern coasts by evening. Thunderstorms possibly severe with damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall possible about the northeast during the afternoon. Maximum temperatures generally below average. Freshening north to northwesterly winds about the northeast at first with fresh southwest to southerly winds extending throughout. Winds fresh to strong and gusty about coastal parts, mainly during the morning. Forecast for Monday 22 December Showers and thunderstorms about the far northeast, clearing during the evening. Possible light showers about windward coasts, increasing at night and extending over Kangaroo Island and the South East districts. Maximum temperatures below average. Northwest to westerly winds at first in the far northeast with southwest to southerly winds otherwise, shifting westerly about the far southeast during the day. Forecast for Tuesday 23 December Showers about the southern agricultural area and western coasts, contracting to windward coasts and ranges during the afternoon. Maximum temperatures below average. Southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh about the coasts with afternoon sea breezes. Forecast for Wednesday 24 December Light showers about the southern agricultural and western coasts, mainly about southern coasts and ranges, clearing during the evening. Maximum temperatures below average, but above average temperatures returning to the west on Wednesday and extending eastwards by Friday. Southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh at times with afternoon sea breezes. Cumulative rainfall totals to the end of Wednesday: Generally less than 5mm about northern, eastern and southern parts, increasing to 2 to 10mm about the far northeast and the agricultural area, with falls of 10 to 20 mm about the agricultural area and far northeast and possibly 20 to 30 mm with thunderstorms, particularly in the far northeast.
