Weather Situation A low pressure system is to the east of Tasmania. A ridge of high pressure is expected to extend across the mainland during Monday to direct a westerly flow over Tasmania from Monday to Wednesday. Cold fronts embedded in this flow are expected to cross Tasmania late Monday and again Wednesday. This slow moving high pressure system then moves south of the Bight on Thursday to direct a more southerly flow over the state. Forecast for the rest of Monday 22 December Showers, less frequent about the north, easing and contracting to the west during the day. Isolated showers extending to most districts during the evening. Fresh west to southwesterly winds, becoming west to northwesterly during the evening. Forecast for Tuesday 23 December Isolated showers, more frequent about the west and far south. Showers tending to snow around 900 metres during the morning. Possible small hail about the west. Westerly winds, becoming fresh during the day. Forecast for Wednesday 24 December Showers about the west, south and Bass Strait Islands, extending to most districts during the day, although little falling about the Central North and east coast. Showers tending to snow above 800 metres. Possible small hail about the west and south. Fresh to strong and gusty west to northwesterly winds, turning west to southwesterly during the day. Forecast for Thursday 25 December Showers, mainly about the west and south, easing during the evening. Showers tending to snow above 800 metres during the morning.
