GNU Canada hopes to be a welcoming group of people working together on furthering GNU and the free software movement in Canada through advocacy, activism, as well as developing and contributing to free software projects, especially GNU packages. GNU was launched by Richard Stallman (rms) in 1983, with the goal of developing a wholly free (as in freedom) operating system, the GNU operating system, to give all software users control and freedom over their computing. Today, the GNU system is most commonly used with the kernel Linux, the system we call [GNU/Linux]. To learn more about [GNU], follow the link.
