# Confession My adventure down the rabbit hole was short lived. Using a secondary device so that I could access a web browser that would work on modern websites became a significant annoyance, as did rc shell's handling of quoting and non-completion of program names. I also hate the terminal windows and often find my cursor some place other than where I want it, yes I learned about ctrl-b? to get me to that point and a host of other incantations. But collectively it was all just too much when I had a system which was complete and tolerable to hand. So I'm back on OpenBSD, using rc wrapped in readline as my shell, except when I find it too annoying. I also finding myself using vim again rather than vis. I am writing this using vis but I find vim's spell checking integration nicer than piping the document through spell which just presents me with a list of misspelled words that I have to hunt down and modify. I'm sure I could quite easily script something to highlight the offending words. Maybe I should do that and would feel a little happier. riow's key bindings probably made the experience last longer than it would have otherwise. I find the constant use of the mouse tedious and unnecessary. I also dislike the inconsistency between acme and rio, acme has its own way of doing things which in some cases is quite at odds with rio. In the end I preferred to use sam rather than acme as an editor partly due to this. So there we have it, my confession and my reasons. ## Summary It's a real pity as the underlying principles of the operating system are sound and it does fix and simplify a number of UNIX short falls. But like many things that are sound in principle, in use they can have problems. None of them individually unsurmountable, but there are just too many annoyances for me.
