System State Observatory
The System State Observatory is a continuously operating network
infrastructure measurement node. It performs fixed-cadence ICMP
probing of globally distributed DNS root servers and records round-
trip latency, jitter (mdev), and packet loss. Concurrently, it logs
local system state (load averages, entropy pool availability,
memory pressure, CPU temperature) and clock-discipline metrics.
The objective is to construct a long-duration time series suitable
for analysis of diurnal routing structure, regime shifts in path
characteristics, jitter distributions, and correlations between
network performance and local system conditions. Data are stored
in a persistent SQLite archive and updated once per minute.
This is an active, ongoing research project.
