1 Re-deriving details of the three-equation model

4 This directory contains Maxima scripts re-deriving all the formulas
5 necessary to implement the three-equation parameterization of the
6 thermodynamic ice-ocean interaction at the ice shelf bottom.

8 There are three cases:
9 1. Basal melt.
10 2. Basal freeze-on.
11 3. Neither melt nor freeze-on at the base.

18 to produce coefficients of the quadratic equation for the salinity at the shelf base.

20 Once basal salinity is computed, a linearized melting point equation
21 is used to compute the basal temperature, and the sal flux equation is
22 used to compute the sub-shelf melt rate.
