And with that, readers, please meet Tauseef Ahmed.* **NICHOLAS BERNHARD** When did you first become interested in drawing? **TAUSEEF AHMED** I've been interested in drawing since childhood. It started with sketching whatever caught my eye, and over time it became a real passion that shaped my career. During school days it was just a hobby that occupied me in my free time. However, I became serious with art and illustrations after I completed my academics. I was also fortunate enough to have great teachers who identified my interest and encouraged me to explore it more. **NB** What tools do you use when illustrating? **TA** I work with a mix of traditional and digital tools. For traditional art, I mostly use ink pen, watercolor, and pencil. Digitally, I use a drawing tablet with software like Photoshop and Illustrator to refine or complete illustrations. If you ask me my favorite medium, it would hands down be watercolor. I have been painting in watercolor since as long as I can remember but it still feels like there is so much to learn and explore. **NB** Who are some of your artistic influences, and what do you like about them? **TA** I grew up adoring the beautiful works of many master artists and illustrators from around the world. Winslow Homer, Caspar David Friedrich, Dean Mitchell, Scott Robertson, Milind Mullick, Praful Sawant, Alphonso Dunn, Ian McQue and Studio Ghibli have had a great influence on me particularly for their lifelike and realistic renditions of everyday life subjects. I have a strong inclination towards a realistic art style which made me naturally gravitate towards them. I got to learn a lot about architectural illustration, automotive art, urban landscape and still life as well as exploring the different art mediums from these sources. **NB** A lot of your work focuses on architecture and vehicles. Are these personal interests of yours? **TA** Yes, very much. Architecture and automobiles have always been my favourite subjects to draw since childhood. My sketchbooks used to be full of sketches of motorcycles, cars, buildings and cityscapes. I enjoy capturing the character of a vehicle or building in a way that highlights both artistry and engineering. For me, it's not just about accuracy but also telling a story through the lines, shadows, and angles that make each subject truly memorable **NB** Have you worked on a book cover before, or illustrations for books? **TA** Yes, I’ve created several custom illustrations for books and book covers on different themes. These include children’s books, novels, fiction, non-fiction and instruction manuals. **NB** Where else has your work been published? **TA** Most of my work has been either personal commissions or commercial projects for businesses related to interior design, architecture, clothing, automotive, lifestyle products etc. You can check out some of the book covers illustrations that I got to work on in the past: *Arroz con Pollo and Apple Pie* by Martitere Bellas zbellas.com/product/arroz-con-pollo-and-apple-pie-raising-bicultural-children/) https://mainihi.wordpress.com/illustrations/ (https://mainihi.wordpress.com/illustrations/) *Goodnight Buffalo* by Jennifer S.J.
