In July, I published *Father's Day* (https://nantucketlit.com/fathersdaybook) by Sefton Eisenhart, the first in a series of collectible chapbooks. In August, I published *Overscan: Stories From Beyond the Screen's Edge* (https://nantucketlit.com/overscanbook), an anthology of fantasy and sf from writers using the site. I consider this book a kind of business card for the writing you can expect from Nantucket Lit, and I appreciate everyone who has ordered the EPUB and paperback editions. Even the special Apple II edition, which is delivered on a floppy disk, has done well! Today, I am announcing two new books for this autumn. OCTOBER 22 | EBONY AND CRYSTAL: POEMS IN VERSE AND PROSE BY CLARK ASHTON SMITH [ALT TEXT: Cover for the Nantucket Lit edition of Ebony and Crystal. First published in 1922, *Ebony and Crystal* has been praised by **Stephen King**, **Ray Bradbury**, **Harlan Ellison**, **Robert Bloch**, and *Conan the Barbarian* creator **Robert E. Howard**. Both Bradbury and Ellison credit Smith with inspiring them to write science ficiton. One of Smith's biggest fans was **H.P. Lovecraft**, who considered Smith to be the best writer in his literary circle. Stephen King has opined that Smith was the poet that Lovecraft wanted to be, but couldn't. Clark Ashton Smith was essentially the Lovecraft of poetry. *Ebony and Crystal* is full of ancient empires, far-off lands, ghouls, seraphim, hidden tombs, beautiful women, and dark demigods. Much of my work on Nantucket Lit's software has been to produce a version of *Ebony and Crystal* that I would be proud of. I feel I am finally at that point. This is not merely a re-printing. This edition of *Ebony and Crystal* will include the following features: * Hand-picked public domain illustrations. * An index of poems sorted by title. * An index of poems sorted by first line. * A glossary containing over 450 entries. The glossary is the most expansive new addition. Clark Ashton Smith had an incredible vocabulary, rich with details of mythology, ancient history, spices, and precious gemtones. This glossary, compiled by me, will help give readers a heightened understanding of Smith's exotic verses. This edition of *Ebony and Crystal* features cover art by acclaimed painter David O'Meara (https://www.davidostudio.art/). When I found David O's art online, I knew his work conveyed the hyper-real, haunting beauty of Smith's poetry. The cover art is his painting *Reunion*. This is an amazing cover, and I'm proud to finally share it with all of you. [ALT TEXT: Back cover for the Nantucket Lit Edition of Ebony and Crystal, showing a photo of sunset at Gusev Crater on Mars. The back-cover text includes praise for Clark Ashton Smith by writers H.P. Lovecraft, Ray Bradbury, and Harlan Ellison, with a brief overview of Smith’s literary significance.] The back cover features a photo showing sunset on the surface of Mars. On Mars, the daytime has an orange cast to it, and sunrises and sunsets are blue. Smith's poetry is often set in far-off, other-worldly desert landscapes; here is one for real. I will be selling *Ebony and Crystal* in both ebook and paperback formats, to be published on **October 22**. Smith clearly loved the fall, and you'll enjoy his poetry in the closing months of the year. This book will the perfect gift for the Lovecraft and poetry fans in your life. *Ebony and Crystal* represents the high quality of bookmaking that's possible with Nantucket Lit's software suite. This book is about a major event in American labor history: the Colorado coal strike of 1927. In the autumn of 1927, twelve thousand coal miners in Colorado went on strike for better pay and safer working conditions. The strike culminated in a deadly attack at the Columbine Mine north of Denver, where state militia fired on unarmed protesters. The tragedy at the Columbine Mine indirectly led to many labor rights passed into law during the FDR administration. As with the previous edition, **November in America** will feature illustrated maps of the Northern and Southern Coal Fields, done by artist Mister V. The book is told from the perspective of characters in Colorado's Northern Coal Field: miners, their wives, and union organizers. I think people are looking for stories about community organization, labor, and protest. Here is the story of the largest labor strike in Colorado history, and how its impact reverberated through the decades. Nantucket Lit exists because of *November in America*. I originally published *November in America* through Amazon's KDP platform. My frustrations with KDP are what led me to start Nantucket Lit, so I could make books that I would proud to share with friends and family, and make them the way I wanted to. *November in America* will be published in ebook and paperback formats starting on Friday, **November 21**. I have a promotional partnership set up for this title, I just don't want to jump the gun. This will be another collectible chapbook. No comments yet. WANT TO COMMENT?
