20221124-lynx_vs_links2.txt When I'm in my TTY, I use two primarily: Lynx and Links2. LYNX Lynx does Gopher. That alone makes it my primary browser. As my previous post mentioned, it's very, very customizable and hackable. You can do some really fun things in Lynx. It works on pretty much all sites and give you some flexibility in how you implement it. It has customizable and Vim or Emacs keybindngs. I just started getting into jump files, but I'm running into some issues with them not working as intended. It's the most "you" a browser can be, as far as I know. The bookmarks are great, even if they are written in broken HTML. LINKS2 Links2, on the other hand, is much more structured. There is a specific way of doing things. There is no Gopher support. That's a bummer. But it does have three things that make them more ideal for me in certain instances: graphics mode, tabs, and download in background. Having graphics without X or Weyland is incredible. If I want to look at pictures, I don't have to go through the laborious process of downloading each of them explicitly like I do in Lynx. I can view them in the page reasonably how the author intended. That being said, Links2 does force some issues (like no real CSS support and my install doesn't support JS) and makes it a very unique experience with a graphical browser. Tabs are great when you don't want to pull up a new instance just to keep browsing different sites at the same time. And background downloading is honestly a lot more convenient than it looks. If I use Invidious (which is often), I can download one video and get started on the next one without having to wait... view... browse... wait... view. That's huge. But it doesn't do Gopher. That can also be huge. All in all, I use both a lot. Mostly in character-cell mode, I use Lynx. When I'm using Links2, it's usually in graphics mode. It all depends. What browsers do you use?
