19:09:14 - I think people really lack perspective, in general. There seems to be this tendency of the human mind to assume things will continue as they are, or that the way it is currently is stable. Maybe this little failing has a name, like other similar things such as the priming effect, or whatever. Also dangerous is the standing assumption that things will keep "progressing", technologically, socially, whateverally speaking. This isn't explicitly said, but reveals itself readily in attitudes. Nothing is stable, continuity isn't guaranteed, and the lack of perspective and taking-for-granted are staggering in its degree and prevalence. We're in the middle of a fuck-insane period in history, moving faster than ever. The modern world may seem (if you aren't paying attention) like a true edifice that will stand the ages, but in reality it's brand spanking new and in heavy flux. Although I may be preaching to the choir in this particular instance. :)
