Picking up the pieces

For me, breaking up is always hard to do. I find a lot of joy in
intimate relationships. There are parts of myself that I've been able
to discover through other people's openness, kindness, and care. So
when the break occurs I get quite disheartened: that new part of me
that was made in a cocoon of love can't go back to its origin
anymore. It stays with me, sure. But there's always a painful fissure
between when it grew with help and when it grew all on its own.
