TOWARDS A TOILET STOOL My friend Liam and I love to make stupid shit. In the nearly 15 years of friendship together there are a number of creative highlights I remember fondly: - Electric organ on wheels - Hole in kitchen wall - Coffee table with speakers - [1|Persistence of Vision Machine|/persistence_of_vision_machine.gph|roygbyte.com|70] - "That lamp" This weekend was a little different. We each had our own endeavours. Liam was laminating some scrap wood to turn into table legs (he also built the table, a cute little desk from Baltic birch). I had decided to build a toilet stool. Both these projects are practical and quite distant from the days of our youth when we decided to rip apart that electric organ and put it on wheels. But working beside Liam is just as fun now as then. IMG clamps.jpg IMG cutting.jpg I don't pretend to be very good at wood working. I know the basics and very little more: - How measure and cut a reasonably straight line. - How to use a drill. - How to sand something. Not being very good, I still find lots of enjoyment in the activity. Working with my hands is fun! I love trying to figure out the correct dimensions of a build. Sawing with my Japanese hand-saw is also quite the treat! I doubt I'll ever get very good at wood working. All the same, knowing the basics enough to put together a reasonably study stool feels like a massive accomplishment. IMG head-measure.jpg IMG wood-legs.jpg
