[Help file for CONTROL 10/20 1 page] CONTROL 10/20, having been evaluated thoroughly by the few users who wanted screen-formatted data entry, was on the system from July 1980 through February 1981. The package was found to be extremely useful for data entry, and quick set-up of new data-entry programs. The primary drawback was SIZE of the program (60K) and therefore cost of resources. Typically 2 cents per attribute to add a record. The vendor (DATABILITY SOFTWARE SYSTEMS, INC) was responsive to bug reports and to suggestions for enhancement, several of which were implemented during the trial period. Due to lack of expected use which would warrant the purchase price, the product was returned. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTROL 10/20 is a proprietary data-entry facility for use in conjunction with SYSTEM-1022. It was on the system for 30 days free trial. ($15,000) It is a CRT-screen data management package which makes data entry very very easy, and data retrieval very nice. It also allows all kinds of default field values for every field, and ranges of allowed values for every field. The data-management user uses commands like FIND and ADD and the data is neatly formatted on the screen, one record at a time. The general usage is as follows: the BUILD program can create a new data structure, or can access an existing XYZ.DMS file by giving the command LOAD XYZ(where XYZ is the filename). Then, the screen can be edited to reposition fields on the screen. When the layout is satisfactory, give the command "CREATE". This makes an XYZ.EXE file which is the data management program that knows all about the things you set up using BUILD. When you RUN XYZ, you get the screen cleared, and attribute names displayed nicely around the screen. The screen cursor shows you what you are doing, whether giving commands, or modifying attributes. The BUILD (programmer's) manual can be printed with: PRINT DOC:BUILD.MAN/FORMS:NARROW The data-manager's manual (what the XYZ program can do) is printed with: PRINT DOC:DATA.MAN/FORMS:NARROW (this has figures referenced, but the figures are just blank paper) There are BUILD and DATA "help" files which list the available commands. The terminals supported in the current version are: ADM3A,AJ510,ELITE,HAZLTINE1500,10,20,30,TEK4023,VT52,VT100,VT132 BANTAM(PE550),FOX(PE1100),HP2641,HP2645,CONCEPT100(HDS100), ADDS520,580,920,980 FOX is being added. Others can be also. [End of CONTROL.HLP] .KJOB .
