!US presidential election --- agk's diary 6 November 2024 @ 0330 UTC --- written on GPD Win 1 in bed before work --- I learned Kentucky voters don't directly care much about foreign policy. The case has to be made, connecting to jobs and the economy, healthcare (for the Democrats), principles or theory of good government that motivate Republican immigration concerns and (maybe) Democrat abortion concerns. I knew Republicans are the default in Kentucky. I learned (again?) Dems are the party of incomes over $100,000, no financial anxiety, "country's going in the right direction," our two big cities, and black voters. We finished the Kentucky Party bylaws today. I'm proud of them. We won't have a problem getting signatures to run someone for US House of Reps. We could take a General Assembly seat. Geoff wrote: We were right to not start a campaign for Jill Stein in September, after we got her on the ballot. We could have broken our hearts knocking doors. It would have had no appreciable effect. My gut said we'd get 0.5% for Jill. I wish we were going into the next four years with the minor mandate of 2% (nobody but us and the Secretary of State cares what that number represents). I think we're putting our energy in the correct long-term place. I agree with Geoff, we approached this very professionally. He doubts we can get 10% in the 2027 governor's race but we can petition earlier, buy time to run a real campaign, and bag 2% in the 2028 presidential race. We have work to do in the next four years. I'll do some, even though more of my care will be dedicated to my family while Evy goes to school for a Bachelor's degree in nursing. I love what I learn engaging in politics, not just watching it. Miracles are routine. The mass differentiate and reveal themselves. Big ships can be turned by skilled pilots and good crews given a little time and understanding of tides, winds, currents, and the capabilities of ship and crew. Nothing's inevitable.
