Power's out all over town. We filled up 
thermoses with warm tap water, lit some 
candles, put on jackets, and played 
scrabble. 

The land line works fine, so I texted the 
number to friends who don't have it. Evy's 
sleeping at the hospital after her shift 
ends, because roads are impassable. Cassie 
probably is, too. 

Tevis saw the blue flash when a transformer 
blew. We all heard it. I guess if we had 
backup power for the router, we could still 
get on the internet, but who needs it? 

Nights like this cause house fires, and are 
not easy for people on oxygen concentrators. 
Volunteer firefighters and linemen are hard 
at work in tough weather. 

For us, nights like this are easy. We get 
off the internet and stay up late enjoying 
the company of each other.
