We parked at Chili's. It was next to 
McDonald's and closed. We called and 
told the others where to meet us.

They arrived, about 20 of them,  with 
placards, in Carhartts, heavy jackets 
and masks, carrying coffees. After 
three introductions, there are no faces 
to remember, just different hats.

It was fun to stomp through the snow, 
cross at the light, improvise chants:

"What's disgusting? Union busting!"

It was fun to invade Whole Foods. The 
workers were pumped. They remember 
when Whole Foods was a really good job, 
before Amazon.

It was fun to have buffers of safety: 
police liaison negotiating while we 
picketed freely, legal observer noting 
details, medic with cough drops.

Later, back outside at the intersection, 
we passed flyers through open windows, 
snapped pictures to raise the spirits of 
the Alabama Amazon warehouse workers, 
and talked union.

A UPS driver took a flyer. Ten minutes 
later a Teamster showed up to join us.

Security ran off the LEX18 TV crew before 
we got to Whole Foods. The reporter texted 
to ask for video. Motorists and shoppers 
livestreamed us. 

It was fun to be outside, righteous, 
and together.
