!G for gaudete --- agk's diary 17 December 2021 @ 15:33 --- written on Pinebook Pro at kitchen table with mug of tea and TrueAnon podcast's coverage of Ghislaine Maxwell trial --- > Tidings of comfort and joy! The third week of Advent is when joy joins hope and love, three lights illuminating winter. Yesterday I sat on the weathered carport concrete with a mug of hot coffee and Fall 2021 Telos, reading a paper on the concept of metaphor in Hannah Arendt's unfinished last book The Life of the Mind. My baby sat in dry grass facing away. I looked at her back. She held in her right hand a leaf she'd snatched as it swirled in the wind. She can't yet crawl, but saw leaves in vast armies *fly*. She wondered at their freedom. They danced dozens of meters here and there at wind's fancy. What a sight! Watching her witness and feel new patterns in the outdoor world, I felt sun and breeze warm and cool my skin. Indoors temperature is not so dynamic. I smelled leaf mold, heard wind whoosh and leaves skitter. A pickup truck passed, doppler-shifted engine, tire-hiss, shockingly linear motion through leaf-chaos. Nothing like that indoors. Stunning light carved sharp shadows, then muted. Shadows vanished. She wondered. I rejoiced with her. > God has become man > With nature marvelling > The world has been renewed > By the reigning Christ > Gaudete, gaudete Christus est natus > Ex Maria virgine, gaudete!
