Evy started a new job at the rural hospital in our
town. I've been in there before, in the emergency
department once or twice, and in the FQHC clinic on
the 3rd floor more often. She came from a big 
academic medical center with hundreds of beds. The 
hospital where she works now has 5 floors and many
wings, but only 25 beds: 18 on her unit, 5 intens-
ive care, and I guess the rest in emergency.

The rest of the hospital is outpatient care. An
entire wing is abandoned, dusty halls and rooms 
storing old hospital junk. I was surprised to learn
how few beds it has. I work in a 1-story hospital
with a smaller footprint and 65 beds. Where Evy
works it seems you get sent to the big city if real
sick or badly hurt. She misses her patients with
all their organs failing at the same time.
