!Christina's August questions --- agk's diary 22 August 2025 @ 04:31 UTC --- written on GPD MicroPC with vi via puTTY to white noise of fans while a/c's broken --- I love Christina's questions. I'm glad she's asking again. 1. What trinket would I miss the most? I'm sentimentally attached to everyday tools I miss badly when I misplace them: Casio MQ-24 wristwatch, Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen, print-out schedule for the week, Nalgene acrylic water bottle. 2. Who's a national treasure in my country? Dead: Harriet Tubman, A. Philip Randolph, C. Vann Woodward, the Wright Brothers, Lorinda Cherry, Charlie Chaplain, William Faulkner, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson, Billie Holiday-- easy to come up with many. Alive: Lady Gaga, Adolph Reed, Luigi Mangione? 3. What footwear's on my feet in summer? Usually leather boots. Sometimes none. 4. If the answer's tomatoes, what's the question? What's the mint, olive oil, and black pepper for? 5. How do I make friends in a new place? Go to AA meetings. Be a regular at open mic, punk shows, cafe, or truck stop. Have a young child, frequent the public library or creek where kids play. Bicycle or walk. Go to church, drink coffee with old ladies. Have something worthwhile to say or listen attentively. Read good books. Join a club. Volunteer whenever I can, volunteers make more friends than participants. Have something I'm trying to do that drives me to go to lots of events to meet people and enlist them. Directly ask someone who seems amenable if he'd like to do crimes with me tonight. Remember what's important to someone I want to befriend. Stay at least 3 years. Ask for favors. Do what I say I'm going to do even when it takes heroic effort. Be gracious. Play cards or chess. Laugh and be humble. It doesn't hurt to call.
