November 2025 Questions:

1. Anything special we do for Halloween?

    First daughter dressed as Elsa, Evy dressed as
    Anna. They walked across the cemetary to a
    friend's house for chili, then the kid-gang set
    forth to shake down decorated houses for treats.
    I went to work at the hospital.

2. Did a grandparent or great serve in a World War?

    Dad's dad was army corps of engineers, in France
    I think. "The gals were beau-tee-ful!" He and
    the boys drank wine stored in salt domes they
    shouldn't have. He came back with some trophies
    from the despised and defeated Nazis.

    Mom's dad was a Navy radar technician on a ship
    during the carnage in Korea.

3. What am I a "natural" at?

    Everything concrete that comes to mind only
    seems natural now, after long apprenticeships,
    practice, and learning.

    - Physical assessment of a potentially badly
      injured child, or psychosocial nursing assess-
      ment of a teen in crisis
    - Political public speaking
    - All-weather camping and camp cooking
    - Making 'zines

    Being the calm spot in a storm.

4. What was my best work of art?

   Solo: A short story called "A Fire in Galilee"
         about race, faith, and ultraviolence
   Collab: A Mardi Gras float called "Til we all get
           home" celebrating women in the housing
           projects
   Interactive: Stories called "But Why?" designed
                for specific communities to marshal
                collective resources to change the
                outcome of their nightmare

5. What's something that amazes you

    Miraculous workings of human history as it
    happens and defies my expectations

    Watching a terrible wound granulate, pink up,
    and epithelize
