# My Computer History - alfred's Gemlog

I've mostly used Dell desktops over the years, starting with a 286 in 1989. My current one dates to 2010, and has been running Linux Mint since 2020. Laptops were always secondary / travel computers for me, but I no longer have any - Raspberry Pi fills that niche now. 

Some of my oddball machines included: 

* Timex Sinclair 1000 (c. 1983) - gave me a taste of programming, despite its terrible keyboard
* Psion 5mx (2000) - Though marvelously engineered, I found connectivity tricky and screen contrast poor
* Sylvania netbook (2010) - enticing price, but impractically slow and poor battery life
