# Sleeping Pads - alfred's Gemlog Sleeping pads can be closed-cell foam (CCF) or inflatable; the main trade-off between the two is reliability vs. comfort. Inflatable pads are more comfortable, but they can leak, or grow an ever-larger bubble on the surface from delamination. They should be carried inside the pack to protect them from snags, and this takes up valuable room. CCF pads can't leak, so they can be safely carried outside the pack, and they aren't any heavier. But they are very bulky, seldom comfortable enough for side sleepers, and may not be as insulating as once thought. Still, for now I prefer CCF. => gemlog.gmi Back to Gemlog contents Last edited: 2025-08-14
