# Driving to Star Parties - alfred's Gemlog


One night while camping in a remote state park, I got up to relieve myself in the wee hours (pun intended). I never saw so many stars before; they were like diamond dust on black velvet. It eventually led me to attend star parties hosted by regional astronomy clubs, which were usually at a dark sky location, hours away from the glow of city lights. But I found that if I stayed until I felt tired, it was very difficult to stay awake on the drive home. 

In the future, I'll probably only go if I can also camp nearby.
