# Shopping by Bicycle - alfred's Gemlog


I had nice panniers for my old hybrid bike, each of which could expand from 13 to 33 liters. But I live in a very hilly neighborhood, and it didn't take much cargo to make it too hard to get up the hills (I'd have to walk the bike at some point). On flatter ground, it probably wouldn't have been an issue. 

It's too bad - I live only 2 km from a grocery store, and it would be nice to just bike there instead of driving such short distances - which I understand isn't great for car mufflers, etc.
