# The Camera You Have With You - alfred's Gemlog The old saying is that the best camera is the one you have with you. Implying: a bulky but high-quality DSLR setup doesn't take good pictures if you usually leave it at home. Thus, one should carry a pocketable point and shoot (P&S). These days, a mobile phone serves that role for most people. But when hiking, I've preferred to pack traditional pocketable cameras, both as a hedge against accidental damage to the phone, and to get better quality images. Sadly, the market for pocketable low-and-midrange P&S cameras is nearly gone.
