# Use the Fourth, Uke - alfred's Gemini capsule Yamaha's Guitalele is a small, six-stringed, laminated instrument that is tuned up a perfect fourth from the standard tuning on a guitar. So instead of EADGBE, the open-string notes are ADGCEA (similar to the ukulele's GCEA tuning). The nut width is adequate, at 48mm, but the frets are awfully close together up the neck, due to its short 432mm scale. But this short scale makes it less neck-heavy (and easier to hold) than a travel guitar. Though the ukulele is typically associated with Hawaiian music, I find the Guitalele can evoke a medieval or Renaissance sound, depending on the piece. => gemlog.gmi Back to Gemlog contents Last edited: 2025-09-17
