# Talkin' 'bout My G-G-G-Gemini - alfred's Gemini capsule


Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to a philosophy club about the non-commercial internet, particularly Gopher and Gemini. It was in the spirit of James Tomasino's "Rockin' the Web Bloat" talk of 2022, but with different and updated content. 

One person asked about the financing of the project - citing the adage, "if you're not paying for the service, you ARE the product." Generally, that's true, but it wouldn't be the first large-scale distributed volunteer software effort to succeed - Linux is a good counterexample to the rule. 

It's also a hobbyist project, and people spend money on hobbies.
